We had a special presentation last night as we aired, for the first time ever, the 2016 Razzball Writers League Draft. If you were bored, nappy from all the Labor Day BBQ, or just wanting to make fun of Tehol, you had the chance to join us and have a bit of fun! And some of you did! We had a few hundred viewers last night, which was great. I’m happy that this new presentation was well-received, and not to be outdone, we made sure to record the draft as well, for posterity. And to hold Tehol accountable for the things he said. The YouTube recap can be found below, along with the team info and complete draft recap after the jump!

And if you’d like to join your very own RCL, you can here!

Notes: Tehol, Zach, Matt ([email protected]) all joined me for the commentary. If you just want to watch myself and [email protected] analyse and grade all the teams, that starts at the 1:33:40 mark. Thanks for watching!

Thats the worst draft I ever saw. Were fiveyear lds controlling the picks. Somebody drafted two defenses. I seen sammy watkins went 16th, Gronk went 6th overall, razzball for football has fallen off. You waited for the season to start to update the rankings. Dion leewis is still ranked 15th at running back in you half ppr rankings. Ladarious green is ranked high still, your rankings are like 30 days old. I always followed grey now he only does baseball. I always followed razzball and always did great because of it. Its a good thing I noticed how shitty the rankings were here and outdated. I r

@mike: Mike, I’ve already addressed the rankings with you. They have remained updated throughout the preseason, and yes, including Dion Lewis. Source: http://football.razzball.com/2016-razzball-fantasy-football-draft-kit. The specific rankings you are referring to were snapshots from several months ago, and says as much if you see the “date” on the post.

I’ll reiterate from my response to your ramblings from yesterday, we have been in the top-20 percentile of all experts in terms of accuracy since I took over.

But door’s on your left just the same.

@mike: Whaaaaaaa! The free rankings aren’t updated. Whaaaa, whaaa. Mike, go eat a bag of cocks. For real. And take an English course on proper grammar while you are at it.

      • mike says:
        (link)

@timmyk93: are you joking if you agree with his so called updated PREDRAFT rankings then you are dumb as he is. Two days ago every new injurey was not updated. Dion lewis was hurt a month ago. Two days ago he was ranked #15 running back on those rankings in half ppr. I saw ladarious green ranked very high and too high. He was hurt also like a month ago. Tell me would you take charcandrick west over ware? And its I need a computer class for typos not a english class for writting. This is a keyboard im using.

        • mike says:
          (link)

@mike: I may be the only one telling razzball and razzballers how pissed I am for having so much faith in there sight and they let you do that. But believe me the ones whos teams you did screw will see soon enough and there not going to use razzball anymore. Infact there is one person in razzball that gave me the best advice. He even helped me win this years championship in baseball. So hopefully people dont abandon razzball completely if they play baseball they should follow razzballs GREY. He is always on top of his updates and he wont ruin your team he will only help it. To bad he doesnt do football anymore.. why ? I dont know he just doesnt. I think he wants to focus only on baseball from now on. I just wish he didnt send me your link because thats why I took your rankings with me to my draft. Its the only terribly wrong thing hes told me to do.

          • @mike: Hey Mike! Thanks for reading Razzball, and for checking in on our draft from last night. I understand the saltiness, but you can also find Tehol and Jay’s rankings in FantasyPros, along with other experts. That may be a helpful tool if you’re not able to find the most updated versions on here.

I would not take West over Ware. West is the Charles mold, not Ware, but Ware has the easier path to carries and production even when Jamaal comes back.

@mike: when did Grey did write football? was that 3 days before a season started too? do you have some time machine here?

    • RotoLance

      RotoLance says:
      (link)

@mike: I stand by Watkins in the 2nd. Of all the mistakes I made that is not one of them. It was a very close decision between him and Bell. Watkins’ arrow is pointing up and he was a top 20 scorer among W/R/T last year despite missing 4 games. Watkins has injury concerns, Bell has injury concerns and off the field habit concerns.

      • RotoLance

        RotoLance says:
        (link)

@RotoLance: Whoops, more like the 30th score in 2015 for Watkins. I’m correcting myself.

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@RotoLance: Watkins going in the 2nd and 3rd rounds is where I’ve seen him go in a lot of drafts. Tehol loves the dude too, so he’d be proud.

        • @Jay: Yep, Agree with Jay and Lance. 2nd/3rd round is where he should go. Maybe a little high considering who was on the board, but this is a guy that could get into the Top 5 at WR. Not easy to do.

  2. mike says:
    (link)

I took your ranks with me to the draft and was lost. I regret it and should have taken fantasy pros or roto rankings with me instead. Even damn yahoo was better then the rankings you gave me. You didnt update any injuries even. Plus your projections were stupid garbage. You projected charcandrick west ahead of spencer ware. Along with other backwards rankings you projected. I stayed away from ware and west even though I owned ware last year and loved him. I left them both alone because you didnt seem to have anything right in the rankings, but razzball has been good to me. So in situations like that I stayed away from both players. Razzball has been great but you sir suck. You are the worst fantasy sports writter in the country. My first season in fantasy I had better research drawn out then your showing these people. You suck so bad im going to start my own website for just football. No one is having a draft the day before kickoff so your draft rankings should have been updated frequently up until atleast a week ago. You never updated them. And anyone new to fantasy would not notice that. Anyone that used your rankings at there draft had ruined there season already qith no hope in contending. You still have dion lewis ranked as your 15th overall running back. Ladarious green as your 5th tite end. You dodnt have carolinas benjamin even ranked. Dude you ruined any newcomers hopes of contending. Stop writting quit now because you have not a clue whats best for fantasy owners and you dont seemto have the enthusiasm or effort to write anything of worth. How did razzball allow this to happen. That was there rankings that represented there website. It was it is terrable. You may have updated your rankings today or yesterday at some point but thats too late. Like I said before noone is drafting the day or two days before kickoff. Three days ago your rankings were last updated in july it looked like to me. Even then without injurey you ranks were still way off on value. No way should 7 runningbacks go in the first round first of all. Second you want people to draft backups over solid starters. I hope nobody used your pre draft rankings.

    • The Harrow says:
      (link)

@mike: umm, people most certainly do have drafts right up till the season, it’s so ANYBODY’s rankings don’t “screw” us from injuries. simple really, less time, less possible injuries. it does appear true that the half-PPR hasn’t been touched in a while, but you also probably didn’t spend 3 minutes before your draft to check on that and could’ve just used the full PPR (which is pretty up to date) and spending even those 3 minutes would’ve probably led to you that. i guess that one is on Jaywrong too eh? the other rankings have been adjusted numerous times in the last 2 weeks or so.

make sure you come back to tell us all about your site when you make it.

      • RotoLance

        RotoLance says:
        (link)

@The Harrow: It’s unfortunate half-PPR ranks weren’t updated. Totally agree with you about checking out the ranks beforehand. And in fact using full-PPR for half-PPR is fine. Excellent points in an excellent post. Thank you.

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@The Harrow: Well, the draft kit half-PPR rankings have been updated at the same time as all the others. I guess I could have mentioned it in a post? But I’ve used the draft kit to promote my rankings throughout the preseason, and this is the first I’ve heard someone being completely lost on the site.

      • shane logan says:
        (link)

@The Harrow: I am drafting during the first game on thursday, we figure its a cool way to start the season. Its not like what we see will change our mind during draft as its a long season. I do agree baseball is wayyyy better, but all we are getting from various sites are someones opinion with whatever facts sprinkled in that they want to further prove their opinion. So Mike chill out dude, fantasy football is fun…and please learn how to spell!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@mike: You are unhinged. The rankings have been updated constantly… do you think a site that get’s 30,000 views a day… someone would have brought up the fact that our rankings weren’t updated for months on end, or do you think you’re the only one that noticed? Out of all those people?

      Incredible.

      • RotoLance

        RotoLance says:
        (link)

@Jay: Dude cares enough to rant and rave about it but doesn’t care enough to check beforehand if he is using updated rankings rather than an old “snapshot”. Obviously you can’t take it seriously.

      • The Harrow says:
        (link)

@Jay: had i needed to use half PPR i would’ve ASKED you where the new ones had moved to, and didn’t wait till about 5 minutes before my draft, as waterhead above likely did.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@The Harrow: It’s a good point, but I should take some steps to make it easier. I’m happy to make some changes next year, like update notifications on the post, and I might scrap the ranking menu and just promote the draft kit. I’ll figure something out.

          • The Harrow says:
            (link)

@Jay: it’s pretty obvious even spending LESS than 3 minutes that the old half PPR he’s talking about was outdated, and anybody proficent “as a 5 year old” would know to either ask about it or just use PPR (with DATE right ON it), or just use fantasy pros if he waited till right before, since it sounds like the dude waited till about 10 minutes before his draft to grab a ranking.

    • Fungazi says:
      (link)

@mike: This is some good butthurt right here. If the rankings were so bad, why did you even look at them during the draft?

      • The Harrow says:
        (link)

@Fungazi: he clearly didn’t check and even put 3 minutes into looking at the old unupdated half PPR rankings he got, or he’d have seen the outdated injured guys. he thinks Grey writes over here and NFL season has already started. dude’s in a timewarp (in the future where Grey has written for football and NFL has already started) or has some type of brain injury here.

    • 10 Second Tom says:
      (link)

Mike you are an absolute idiot and shouldn’t be involved in this game as you give it a bad name. You are the one without a clue and I am sure nobody that follows Razzball agrees with you what so ever. In fact I am not sure why I am taking the time to entertain your dumb ass LMFAO you are special its okay we forgive special people its not your fault. PASS

  3. The Harrow says:

you have sharpe TEN 83rd in WR dynasty (PPR by default there). is that right? why so if so?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@The Harrow: In the top-50 I have him 29 I believe, which seems pretty low. I actually like him, so this could be just an issue with my dynasty rankings. I’ll analyze that over the next few hours and update the dynasty rankings accordingly. Thanks for the heads up!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@The Harrow: Alright, so the actual fantasypros site has him listed as a WR29 overall when I go to their site for some reason…

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@The Harrow: But in the actual ranker that they provide us, to organize everything, he was at 83… which is weird. I’ve switched him back to 29, which moved his rookie ranking up, and his overall ranking to 49 I believe, which seems to be where it should have had him. Sorry about the confusion on that one!

      • The Harrow says:
        (link)

@Jay: see, look at all that work you put in, on a question about one player. thanks.

    • RotoLance

      RotoLance says:
      (link)

@The Harrow: Actually that team was there until the end. Some of us make a silly pick from time to time. We are quite human! Gostkowski’s ranking is highly debatable if you ask me. His track record is good enough to consider before the last round. I don’t know, I don’t spend a lot of time researching kickers. The 9th is not a place where I’d ever consider a kicker.

I wasn’t happy with my Moncrief pick, but in my defense, look at the other 3rd round picks. I didn’t see Landry or I would have picked him and if Moncrief made it to the 4th I would have picked him instead of Olsen. I wasn’t particularly pleased with the Olsen pick either. I should have picked J Stew in the 4th.

This was my first draft of the year. I made some mistakes.

    • @RotoLance: First one was last night? That’s glorious. I wish I had them all that late.

It was only a reach because of who else was on the board, like you mentioned. Moncrief could easily emerge as the #1 for Luck, though. And then we’ll all look silly.

I was pondering Moncrief along with Cobb, D Thomas and Doug Martin. I like Moncrief’s upside compared to those other two receivers and it’s not like his floor sucks. So when those two were taken it was D Martin and Moncrief and I decided to go WR. The main difference from Moncrief and those players is Moncrief can be had later. I would have probably taken Decker in the 4th had he fallen there. In any case like I said, my mistake was just plain not seeing Landry or J. Stew. I went into the draft kinda wanting Landry but then when it got started I just forgot about him. My RCL is tonight so now I’m ready.

@Alex Lee: I actually wasn’t sure if you were sarcastic or not with that “sniping”. Some of my picks could have been perceived as puzzling. If I needed to snipe anyone it was in fact Ware, as I mentioned during the draft. For some reason I like Vincent Jackson. Could Ware pick for you.

I was all set to pick Philly and then you grabbed em.

  8. Blake says:
    (link)

Hey Jay, wanted to get your opinion on a couple o trades that was proposed to me in my 10 team standard leaue, I have the following lineup:

    QB: B Bortles
    WR: Julio Jones
    WR: Dez Bryant
    WR: E Sanders
    RB: CJ Anderson
    RB: L Bell
    TE: G Olsen
    B: R Matthews
    B:M Jones
    B: Torrey Smith
    B: T Austin
    B: T Benjamin
    B: L Blount

    So I have been offered:

    D Thomas & D Freeman for CJ Anderson & D Bryant

    and

    D Freeman, M Floyd, D Thomas, TJ Yeldon for J Jones & E Sanders

I am thinking no on each. I might be able to do some substituting on each but wanted to get your take

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: I think the first one is a lot better, but I’m actually okay with your team as is. I think you have to reassess in three weeks when Bell comes back and see if you need a bit more or not. I would guess no, but keep that in mind.

    wr – AJ Green
    wr – Cobb
    wr – moncrief

@Oppo Taco: Pretty solid, I would say your talent is spread out, which I like. Your WRs are great, love Cobb there. Bench has a good mix, I think Gio will have to produce though for you to go far. A fair gamble I’d say.

  11. William Hung says:

@Jay: Does C.J. Spiller have a role on the saints or is he a big gamble late in the draft?

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@William Hung: I think he does, and it’s worth it as a late round gamble, but with such things, I wouldn’t expect too much either.

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Jay: I’m partial to chasing upside guys like Tajae Sharpe or Kenny Dixon at the end of my drafts, but after my disaster last season, I’m thinking it’s time for a fundamental shift which is why someone who could be steady like Spiller has sparked my interest

    RB-David Johnson

    Rashad Jennings

    WR-Dez Bryant

  14. William Hung says:
    (link)

@Jay: My league settings changed from 5 bench spots to 6 bench spots, still .5 PPR with 4 pts pass TD and the rest being yahoo default

You mentioned that my format allows for me to only roster 1 QB, but looking at your draft, I see most teams rostering 2 – do I still target someone like Dalton or Tannehill late as my 2nd QB to my 1A / 1B targets of Tyrod and Carr, or is my last roster spot still better served on a W/R/T?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@William Hung: Well, I think they’re doing it wrong… but yes, I still stand by it. I think RB/WR and to a lesser extent, TEs are more valuable unless you are in a format that rewards extra points to QBs.

    Hey Jay,

Dig the draft post dude! Just wondering if I could get your opinion on my 12 team, full point PPR draft from the weekend.

    QB- Palmer, Cousins
RB – Demarco, J Stewart, Henry, Jennings, D Booker
WR – AJ, Dez, Watkins, Torrey Smith, Terrell Pryor
TE – Delanie Walker, C Clay
    DST – KC
    K- Walsh

Would handcuffing Stewart with Artis-Payne be a worthwhile idea?

    Thanks, homie!

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@OldMilwaukeePounders: Thanks! Yeah, I think you should, though I hate losing Booker… might be worth it though. There is some risk there.

      • OldMilwaukeePounders says:

@Jay: Thanks, man. How would you feel about dropping Clay to add Artis-Payne rather than dropping Booker?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Carmichael Show: We were going to have an injury report this year, but the writer backed out due to personal reason. In leagues that carry IRs, I like Lewis a lot, Green as well.

      • Carmichael Show says:
        (link)

@Jay: Thanks. This is a 14-team league so Lewis and Green were drafted. Dixon and Romo are available. Do you like anyone better than those 2?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Carmichael Show: Probably not Romo, though, I wouldn’t put it past them… Dixon is fine, but the ceiling is pretty low. Who’s your QB? If there’s a question mark there, then Romo works as a speculative add.

  20. William Hung says:
    (link)

@Jay – I’m reviewing your draft right now and got to the point where you are talking about James White – Tyler Gaffney was cut/IR’d by the Patriots – does this change anything about your thoughts on James White / does this give him more security? I def share your thoughts that White can fill that Dion Lewis role, but in your commentary you hedged based on the thought that Gaffney can emerge…

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@William Hung: Yeah, we covered that a few minutes later when we were talking about Gaffney. I like White still, but I also like Blount. White will fill that Lewis role for sure.

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Jay: Definitely agree on Blount just cause finding someone who will get 15 carries with the TD upside per game as late as he’s going is not happening…

If I end up with LeVeon Bell, I might “snipe” Blount” in the 10th

        • Jay

    Jay–

I didnt draft a kicker so now need to drop someone. Best options are Tajae Sharpe, McKinnon, or James White.

My initial plan is to offer McKinnon to the AP owner who is desperate to get the handcuff for a 10th rounder next year.

If that doesn’t work, who would you recommend dropping?

What do you think? Auction keeper league with $180 cap, standard scoring. Bell, Gronk, and Brown were my keepers. Halfway through the draft, a lot of owners had a ton of extra money, so the bidding on some of these mediocre guys got silly.

Who should be my RB2 this week? Who should I start at QB?

Blake Bortles JAC QB – $3
    Rivers SDG QB – $6

DeAngelo Williams PIT RB – $4

    BN Michael Thomas

Dez fell to the 3rd round, 28th overall. kinda wanted a RB there but i had to take Dez based on value. Other than that i am happy with the team. Thoughts?

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@ThE sHiT: Yeah, you totally had to take Dez there. Like Funchess there, same with Thomas. Flex is worrisome, but you have Gordon coming back, so this should all shape up!

  27. William Hung says:
    (link)

@Jay: I need some major luck with the 10th pick… I was really hoping for a top 5 to get a shot at David Johnson, but the dream is dead. I’m probably going to go Lamar Miller / LeVeon Bell 1/2

Or based on your rankings, go 2 WRs with A-Rob and Mike Evans

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@William Hung: I’m fine with Miller and Bell believe it or not. Buuuuuuut, I’d rather you do someting like Miller/Evans. I think that’s a strong opener.

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Jay: I’ll post my full team later, but it’s a shit show – people kept sniping my picks 1-2 rounds ahead of me. All my RBs that I was targeting early were taken so I started off with 3 straight WRs before going Olsen, then it just so happened I went like 4 straight RBs because someone took Tyrod in R8 when I thought I could get him in R9… ended up reaching for Bortles in R10 since I didn’t want to risk waiting 20 something picks before R11 and wondering if any good QBs would be left. At least malmoney likes him…

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@William Hung: It’s half-ppr, right? WRs are okay there. I think Bortles is just fine. Let me know what your team is when you’re ready!

          • William Hung says:
            (link)

@Jay: Love to get you and [email protected] thoughts on this (btw, because of the ampersand I can’t link [email protected]’s name) – really loved your commentary on each team and tried to apply both of your thoughts to my draft…

R1 – AJ Green (Miller was taken 1 spot ahead)
            R2 – A-Robinson (Le’Veon was taken 2 spots ahead)
R3 – Randall Cobb (McCoy, Charles – not interested, and Martin all taken ahead of me)
R4 – Greg Olsen (passed up on Rawls and Hyde because they don’t get me excited)
R5 – Arian Foster (Latavius, Langford, Murray, and Stewart all taken ahead of me)

At this point I was just going best available based on your rankings and it just so happend the rest of the draft played out like this –

R6 – Gio Bernard (Love his early schedule, debatable if I should’ve passed up Matthews)
R7 – Danny Woodhead (Derrick Henry was taken this round, but in .5 PPR, I think I got a steal here)
R8 – Matt Jones (I think he’s getting 20 carries a game, right???? honestly, if I knew how my draft would play out, I would’ve gone Tyrod here)
R9 – Charles Sims (passed up on Benjamin, Yeldon… I feel like Tyrod killed my strategy)
R10 – Bortles (cause only 1 other team didn’t have a QB yet and didn’t want to get stuck with Stafford or Matty Ice)
R11 – Torrey Smith (Your recommendation)
            R12 – Corey Coleman ([email protected]’s recommendation)
R13 – Tyler Boyd (not sure what to do here so I went upside, I could’ve gone James White here but I had my next pick in mind – Really pissed Ajayi was taken right before I picked)
R14 – Dion Lewis ([email protected]’s analysis of him had me target him. I’m not sure I have the personnel to keep him though since I’m thin at RB
            R15 – Minny
            R16 – Walsh

            So in summation
            QB – Bortles
            RB – Foster, Bernard
            WR – Green, Robinson, Cobb
            TE – Olsen
            Flex – Woodhead
            Bench:
            RB – Jones, Sims, Lewis
            WR – Smith, Coleman, Boyd

The best I can say about my team is that everybody is getting snaps except for Lewis. I need to pray to the Gods that Foster doesn’t get hurt

@William Hung: Yeah, be sure to post this in his article too. I mean, I really like your WRs. TE is solid, and Woodhead is a RB3 in any PPR format. I like Jones and Sims there. I mean, this is a really solid team. I think you should feel good about it.

              • William Hung says:
                (link)

@Jay: Thanks Jay – I really didn’t want to reach for any RBs. I feel like I should’ve passed on Foster and gone with a better WR for my Flex and rolled with Bernard and Woodhead as my 1/2 punch.

Do you have a clue where Coleman ranks in terms of target priority on the Browns? Is he their WR1 and 2nd behind Barnidge?
