Welcome to Bet the Farm, Razzball’s weekly NFL wagering contest. We’re back for our second season and ready to take you on over the course of 17 weeks of NFL play. For those new to the game, here are the rules:

  • You start with $1,000 in contest money to make wagers with. You may join in any week.
  • You can wager on the spread or Over/Under for any NFL game, so long as your pick is made by kickoff of that game. The Yahoo Sports Odds page is a good place to get betting lines: you may use the best line you find available when you make your post, but revisions to wagers are not allowed.
  • Your wager must be in an increment of $10.
  • You must beat the House: Therefore, you only receive 90% of your wager for a win ($9 on a $10 bet), but lose 100% of your wager on a loss.
  • Your wager may be any amount between $10 and your full bankroll.
  • New this year: If you lose your entire bankroll, you are allowed a re-buy for another $1,000. Unlimited re-buys are available.
  • New this year: Bet the Farm staff will keep track of the full leaderboard for all participants. However, any player who has taken a re-buy will be listed below all players who have not taken a re-buy – even those with lower current balances. It’s always better to not lose all your money. While I’m going for the cross-promotion in my team name (Bet the Farm! Coming Soon to a Razzball near you!) , maybe I should go with something like Geriatrics’ Boulevard since Yahoo has made it very clear in my report card that this is the oldest team in the league. I’m a sucker for proven commodities, what can I say? Would you rather spend a night with Jennifer Aniston or Miley Cyrus? What’s new and shiny is not always better. Especially in fantasy football. Sure, it would be nice to snag a Giovanni Bernard, or a Tavon Austin, but I would rather know that the players on my team have done it before. Speaking of which, here is said team:

Okay, if you haven’t been playing along with our Bet the Farm Playoff Challenge, this post isn’t going to make much sense to you. Sorry about that, really. But for everyone that has, I assume no matter what I type in this space, they’re just going to scroll down to the standings anyways and not bother reading this. However, that does mean I can write anything I want here and nobody will ever read it. Green Monkey Vanilla Bouncer. U2 is the most overrated band ever. I just do not get the appeal of the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Bet the Farm: Super Bowl Edition

Five months after we initially embarked on this crazy endeavor, the NFL season and, as a result, Bet the Farm is coming to an end. But there’s still plenty of competition to be had. So let’s review the rules for our special playoff contest one last time:

– Each week we’ll list the current point spread and total for each playoff game when this goes live. Those are the spreads/totals everybody will use for their picks that week, no matter when they pick (even if the spreads/totals change officially).
– You must make one wager on each playoff game. You can wager either the spread or total, but not both, for any single game. You must bet every single game during the postseason.
– You get one point for each Wild Card and Divisional Round game you guess correctly, two points for each correct Conference Championship Game, and four points for the Super Bowl. However, you will make each of these wagers the week of that specific game.
– Once during the playoffs, you may identify one game as your “lock.” If you get that game right, you get two extra points. You only get one lock for the entire playoffs, so the maximum final point total is 18.
– You can jump in at any time (even now), just try to use the same handle throughout the entire playoffs.
