Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

I know, I know, I should’ve seen this coming.  I think Hunter S. Thompson put it best: ‘You can turn your back on a person but never turn your back on a drug’.  I let my guard down, forgot that I was dealing with an addict.  Kubiak’s passion for Matt Schaub runs deeper than THE Bruce Dickenson’s want for more cowbell.  I should’ve known that he’d get the itch at some point again.  How many days had it been since crazy ‘ole Kub had seen a ‘drop back and fall to the ground because I’m an immobile QB’ sack?  When was the last time he got to see one of those patented stalled drives down near the goal line from his old QB flame?  We all understand, Gary, you just can’t quit this man.  You guys had such good times together.  Like that pick-6 he threw in week 2.  And then that other one he threw in week 3.  Oh and do you remember that one he threw in week 4?  That one was a beauty.  Personally, though, I’m partial to the one he threw in week 5 that helped him set an NFL record for consecutive games with a pick 6.  I mean, imagine that: your starting QB setting NFL records.  That makes you proud as a coach.  You can’t quit that.  Not after someone has made a burger about it.  No sir.  You don’t care what the stats say or the energy the new QB brings to the team.  You do anything and everything in your power to undermine the confidence of that young man.  I mean, who does he think he is?  Throwing 5 TDs in 2 games to big AJ, the guy who had 4 total in his last 20 games heading into that string.  He’s…uh…just not moving the ball right that way.  Gotta spread it around.  We need more 5 yard bootleg passes to the TE!  We can’t have plays that go for more than 10 yards.  What’s the fun in that?  That’s not Schaub-style football, dammit!  Dear Gary Kubiak, consider this lead paragraph my love song to you in the swan song that is your career as the Houston Texans coach.  Please note I typed it only using two fingers, both of them middle.  In other fantasy news from week 14’s Thursday Night Football contest…

Case Keenum – Here’s a fun little stat, according to ESPN, Case equaled Schaub’s output on the night for fantasy purposes with his 159/1/1 and 13 rushing yards.  Here’s another fun little stat: when you leave QBs in games, they tend to score more points and help your team win.  Here’s another, little unknown, probably not true stat: Kubiak has at least three more Matt Schaub tattoos than Rex Ryan has Mark Sanchez tattoos.

Chad Henne – Scored 15 points…with 117 yards passing.  Marcedes Lewis even got in on the action with a whopping 2 catches for 42 yards and a TD (one of Henne’s two on the night).  If you thought this was gonna be the best match of football you’d see on Thursday night well, if you don’t watch college football, you’d be right.

Houston Penalties – How did this kid not get more playing time earlier in the year?  I mean, 14 for 177 yards?  Those are some huge primetime numbers!  Hey temp, what’s this 14?  Pass completions?  Rushing attempts? Receptions?  *Temp mumbles in background*.  Ohhhhh…Texans suck.

Aaron Rodgers – Practiced in pads on Thursday but was still listed as a limited participant and hasn’t been cleared to play.  And since we’re on the topic of broken dreams, Randall Cobb hasn’t even sniffed the playing field since his injury to my knowledge.  I want to give you hope, cheeseheads, but all I’m smelling is head cheese at this point.

Ace Sanders – I’m mentioning him for two reasons.  One he was fantasy relevant for the night.  Two, if the Jags ever get any semblance of a decent QB, this kid is a weapon to be exploited.  Finished the night with a 3/26 through the air and became the second skillplayer on the Jags to have more passing TDs than Blaine Gabbert on the year with a 21 yarder to Todman.  Because you all like puns, this kid might be an Ace in the hole in dynasty leagues.

Andre Johnson – I feel bad for the guy, I really do.  Finished the night with 13/154 as he’s torn between an old lover and a new, exciting one that he actually gets to score with…wait, he’s not torn.  Every bro wants someone who puts out.  Get the eff outta here, Schaub, you dumpy, over the hill Charlie Brown lookin’ mutha F…

Jay Cutler – Is a no go which makes Josh McCown a go go.  And just in case you don’t know what I do know, Josh ain’t that bad and has been a top 10 QB for most of his time as a starter this year…what.  It was an off-rhyme.

Maurice Jones-Drew – Didn’t reach paydirt but put up his first 100 rushing yard performance on the year, tallying 103 on the ground and even catching 2 for 20 through the air.  It’s been a bumpy ride with the Oompa-Loompa this year, but he’s currently the 14th best RB in PPR formats according to Yahoo which is roughly in line with where I put him in the Top 20 Running Backs to start the year and gets to finish the year with two reasonable rushing match ups down the stretch.  Yes, MJD could finish as a top 10 back in theory.  Yes, this should make you very, very angry because he was just completely worthless for about 50% of the year.

DeAndre Hopkins – Finished with 3/76.  Again, nothing major to write home about but for dynasty leagues, the kid is legit.  Let’s just hope he learns how to spend his off-time better in the future.  Stop posting Nuk-le Children vids, bro.

Thanks for getting me to the playoffs, Skye.

Would you start Jordan Reed over Nate Burleson in PPR? If Reed can’t play would Charles Clay play over Burleson?

    • Sky

I would but I’m not a huge Burleson fan for fantasy. I would play him over Clay though if I had to.

Are you rushing to pick up todman with mjd’s hamstring injury? Like is he better than a knile lotto ticket?

    • Cram It says:

@Zandy: If MJD is hurt now and Charles is not, I’d say Todman has a greater probability of playing time yeah?

@Cram It: well I was asking more so does todman as the jags starting rb even have any attractiveness

          (link)

@Zandy: If you’re comparing him to a lotto ticket, sure. Starting RB’s aren’t easy to come by at this stage. I guess it could depend on your league settings though.

          • Zandy says:
            (link)

@Cram It: agreed. I was only hesitant bc my league has a 4 move weekly max and this would have been move 3. Limiting some flexibility going into Sunday. I made the move and just scooped todman anyways

    • Sky

      Sky says:

@Zandy: I heard it wasn’t that serious but I could definitely see the merit in picking up Todman. It’s hard to call at this point.

  4. Tony Starks says:
    (link)

As an owner of Andre Johnson (to clarify: on my team, NOT actual ownership rights) it’s hard to complain about his 13-for-154 performance BUT late in the 4th qtr when the Texans were driving and AJ ran that 5yd in-route he was WIDE OPEN and Schaub even stared him down and it makes me feel as if Schaub was trying to not win the game. I mean no QB in the NFL could actually be that bad, right? AJ had a couple yard cushion from the closest defender and the middle of the field was Grand Canyon wide. The only person who could’ve made a play was the umpire. Hey, no need to cry over spilled milk but would love to know what was going thru Schaub’s head as that play unfolded. A great mystery of life

    • Sky

      Sky says:

@Tony Starks: Schaub is a broken shell of a QB. Schaub was thinking about the love den he and Kubiak have for the off-season.

@Tom: He’ll be ok. I don’t think weather will play a factor, the TEN secondary will. I see the Broncos running the ball a lot and plenty of dump offs to Moreno. I’m not anticipating a 300 yard day but maybe 250 with 2 or 3 short TD passes? Hard to say.

You have Pierce ahead of Blount and Ellington. I’m guessing that’s based largely in part to the latter two’s uncertain PT. If Ellington is a go, and Ridley doesn’t play, would that change your current rank order of Pierce, Blount, Ellington?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Cram It: It would. Pierce gets a good matchup, could see him sneaking a TD is my main reason for his ranking. I’m hearing Bolden might not play, though, which means Ridley is probably back in the fold but if he’s not, Blount gets the nod over the other 2. Ellington being this dinged up, I don’t trust this week.

      • Cram It says:
        (link)

@Sky: Thanks. Yeah I should prob take Ellington out of consideration. Hopefully have a clearer picture of NE backfield situation by game time.

Yeah I find it hard to believe Ridley is back in one week later. Think if they’re smart he gets all carries week 17, get his confidence back and keep him playoff fresh. But we will see

So Im on a bye….trying to set up my team for week 15 & 16.

In my QB2 slot, I currently have McCown(do not own Cutler)…Bears are @CLE & @PHI in week 15 & 16…do you think Cutler is back next week?

So the main question is should I stick with McCown and hope Cutler isnt back, or just grab Flacco off the wire (Flacco has @DET & NE home for 15 & 16)?

Say Cutler doesnt come back at all, do you like McCown or Flacco for week 15 & 16 considering Schedules?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Don Majkowski: Its hard to say about Cutler. Think it’ll take McCown playing poorly for him to get back in.

Do you have to drop McCown for Flacco? McCown has outscored Flacco pretty much every week he has been the starter. I like him and the offense he’s in more but if I can hedge by dropping someone else to get Flacco, that’s what I would do.

      • Don Majkowski says:

I’m having this crazy thought that I sit Decker and play Andre Holmes this week. I think Deck gets 4 catches on 6 targets for 58 yards and no TD’s. Last week was the fluke of the year as they took advantage of a bad match-up and is not a sign of things to come. On the flip side the Titans have faced nothing like the Broncos and Decker might be the recipient of another bad match up. The Texans are the only team to have a WR score more than 20 points vs. the Titans and that was Hopkins, who Decker could be kinda comparable to….sorta, positionally….I am really confused on how to play this one. The scrutiny is getting turned up with the playoffs on the line….oh and that was the game Andre got hurt and left

    • Cram It says:
      (link)

@J-FOH: I wouldn’t get too cute. Like trying a new and horrible pick up line on a girl, you only find out it’s horrible after you try it. I’d stick with the consistency that got you in the playoffs.

    • Sky

      Sky says:

Have them close in rankings from yesterday: both low end WR2/high end WR3 plays to me. I’d personally go Holmes if I need upside but that could be just me. JT is due back this week, cuts into production opportunities. Also think Broncos ground and pound on that week Titans run defense so the opportunities will be limited.

      • Cram It says:
        (link)

@Sky: You’re both insane. The guy has 10 career catches in 3 years, mainly because he couldn’t get any further than a practice squad.

            (link)

@Sky: Because Michael Vick is racist.

Yes I just read an article how McGloin likes to throw 50/50 balls and how Holmes went from being a 20/80 guy to an 80/20 guy. Awesome game plan!

              Sky says:

Raiders are shit at analyzing wideout talent. Guy runs a fast 40? Sold! Oh he can’t catch? Damn…next fast 40 guy then! Andre Holmes’ pursuit on some of those throws were what impressed me on Thursday. Used his body well on what I think was a seam route and showed great body control and timing on a ball that was thrown both behind him and high down the sidelines.

Sorry to burst your bubble but that’s the gameplan of a lot of successful teams. How many chucks from Flacco landed in Smith’s arms last year? All about taking your shots at the right time. And to be fair, Foles has been doing the same thing with Cooper all year. That’s why everyone says Foles should have at least one INT by now (in reality, probably 4 or 5).

          • J-FOH says:
            (link)

@Sky: true, I’m at that crazy place where I see the upside of Holmes and want to go get it against that bad Jets secondary but then don’t want to feel foolish when he has 2 catches for 20 yards while Decker gets 6 for 75 and a TD.

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

It’s probably an opponent call: do you need the crazy upside of Holmes or would Decker’s steady production do? I don’t view last week as anything more than a crazy explosion for Decker. He’s still the 3rd or 4th option in that offense on a weekly basis.

  25. Sky, I know you will scoff at this question but I need playoff kicker advice! There should be an entire article about this. I found this link that ranks the top 10 fantasy kickers for the playoffs, and 2 of the guys on the list (Dan Carpenter & Matt Bryant) are free-agents in my league.

league 1.1 having mccown and doing well with him (also have luck) should I just drop luck now for tannehill (vs NE in week 15). this would make me ready in case cutler steals mccown’s job back. Luck is vs HOU in week 15 (that could be good enough to hold him, but I don’t know). this team is on bye
league 2.1 if palmer doesn’t play (non PPR) floyd or ryan mathews at flex?
league 3. 1.same thing with palmer. crabtree or floyd.
    2. Have rodgers and fitz in this league. with fitz’s bad matchup in week 15 and expecting Rodgers to get IR’d if GB loses (coach outright lying to media, bodog should have rodgers line out concerning chance he gets IR’d by tuesday) should I get a jump on competition (some of them may be smart enough to block this, probably not though) by dropping bennett (already have v.davis) to get tannehill and his great vs NE week 15 matchup now. Let me add to the flurry of Knile Davis questions…

I have Charles in a 12-team, 0.5 ppr league. I’m contemplating picking up Davis, but I’m not sure if he’d be a starter for me, even if Charles goes down with an injury. I currently start Charles and Murray, with Vereen at flex and L. Bell and Woodhead on my bench. If JC gets hurt, would Davis be worth starting ahead of Bell and Woodhead?

If Davis wouldn’t play for me, I feel like I might be better off rounding out my playoff roster with other positions that might have more impact on my starting lineup.

    • Sky

      Sky says:

‘I feel like I might be better off rounding out my playoff roster with other positions that might have more impact on my starting lineup.’

Problem is, who are you getting that will have more impact on your starting roster than a handcuff to Charles at this point? I’m only underlining that sentence because I strongly doubt there is someone you can pickup that will 1) make your starting roster or 2) have a bigger impact. Really depends on your team’s needs. I’d start Knile over Woodhead if he’s a starter given recent trends.

@Prez: got lucky to see a IND def so bad and somehow CIN’s too that allowed that. I loved him last year when he had to throw it at least 45 times a game. I was hoping I bought that luck in 2 leagues this year, mostly not though.

  40. goodfold2 says:

wow, vereen not in, instead bell (still did good), but mostly fitz/floyd/v.davis have me sweating. I gotta fade s.smith/romo/DAL def (not too worried about DAL defense, they’s gonna get lit right up, might get 0 pts) against my bailey Kicker only with a 40ish pt lead. whatever happened to garbage time yards fitz, HUH!

@goodfold2: and i had tannehill on the bench with 30 pts. ugly, so unless i get fairly lucky i’ll have played this, my actually good team, out of the playoffs. meanwhile my worse team is kicking ass. this is why only 2 RB sucks. if we had flex vereen plays every day. i’ve also lost at least 35 expected pts in last 2 hours from fitz/floyd/davis.

@goodfold2: at least if i lose i’ll know i deserve it, people in the playoffs shouldn’t be playing fitzpatrick. we all know this. however, as much as I whined at myself for not keeping foles (and if I had, certainly he would’ve been started, he only got 1.25 more pts than FITZ. damn that makes me feel better no matter what happens. I know I’m not supposed to whine while on bye, but I’m pretty impressed with how my team has “improved” over the week:
Dropped Nicks for LGreen, the “upside” backup to Reed
    Dropped Streater for BHartline
    Dropped Amendola for JJones
    MJD blew a tire
Miller found a timeshare and then a concussion
    Reed still has a concussion

Vent is over…we’ll see if I can repair any of this for next week once the waivers unlock

    • goodfold2 says:
      (link)

@the imp: there’s no whine rule. anyway, dola didn’t do much of anything, likely streater and nicks you can get back. I also picked up green as reed replacement in a league where I’m on bye. 14 teamer. also have MJD on that team. AND peterson, who also got injured. see if d.moore is free, he’s getting closer all the time and many have thrown that dude away.

      • the imp says:
        (link)

@goodfold2: I hear you. It’s a shallow 12 teamer, so all my castaways are still there (a sign they were castable, of course). DMoore is the reason I tossed Streater back in the first place, but it was a little premature to assume he’d eat into Streater’s time before getting healthy. I’ll pick last on the wire, but there is going to be some RB help this week. Wide receivers are a crapshoot once you get into WR3/4 territory. Ever since I lost Cobb, I’ve been scuffling to find a hot hand every week starter.
I am sorry to hear you lost All Day. Hope you have a guy who can fill-in or a chance at Toby.

        • goodfold2 says:

@the imp: this league is ignorant as shit and only 2 other teams will be left, so i’ll have probably at worst 4th of 4 waiver claim for toby. just have to figure out who to drop. i’d rather have reece, if we knew the 2 ahead of him were hurt next week, but of course we don’t know that.
