We continue to see tons of fantasy relevant moves coming down the pipe. Some good, some not so good, but they are what they are and we will somehow have to trudge through. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do it. Ok, I’ll give it a shot. Oh, and keep an eye on our Free Agent Tracker because I keep it up to date and I need validation.
DeAngelo Williams: Good bye fantasy value. Well, not all fantasy value, but DWilly is staying a Panther and will have another #1 running back as his back up. Oh, yeah, that guy also had his fantasy value shat on when Williams re-signed. Jonathan Stewart drops from a RB2 to an RBpoo. This makes me sad, but it also helps the guy just a little bit below here.
Sidney Rice: The other big free agent chip on the market was Sid Rice and well, he is now a Seahawk. This news is horribly horrible and has me balled up in the corner sobbing. I don’t quite understand the Seahawks paying Rice, but not going after a quarterback not named Charlie Whitehurst or Tavaris Jackson. Rice is young enough that I can see this as a rebuilding move, but it does hurt his value. But I also believe Rice is good enough to have fantasy value with anyone throwing to him, just not as much as I had hoped.
Knowshon Moreno: There has been a lot of Moreno hate going on this off season and not just by fantasy ‘perts, but also by the Broncos’ brass. But now that they haven’t signed DeAngelo his fantasy value has been resuscitated. Of course they are going to pursue another running back and whoever that is will determine his value and if we need to pull the plug on him again.
Reggie Bush: The Heisman winner, National Champion, Super Bowl Champion, Reginald R. Bush is now a Miami Dolphin. I am never going to question Bush’s ability to drive defensive coordinators crazy and help his team win football games, but I do question his ability to be healthy enough to be on the field and I’ll also question his fantasy prospects because he just doesn’t see the ball enough. I also don’t love that Reggie won’t be on a fast track anymore, though it could help cushion his knees from the weight of all those dashed expectations.
DeSean Jackson: DJax is holding out, which is about as surprising as the plot of Friends With Benefits. He is set to make a little over half a million this season and we all know how hard it is to keep the lights on with that kind of take home. After getting lit up and concussed last season he was made aware of his own mortality and became a lil bit apprehensive when going over the middle. There is no way he’ll play the last deal of his rookie contract for such a low salary and I really can’t blame him even though I’m not a fan of his.
Steve Smith: Well, Mr. Smith doesn’t go to Washington (thank Jebus) or San Diego or Chicago or anywhere I’d hoped he go to help his fantasy production. This hurts his fantasy value a ton with Cam Newton or Jimbo Clausen as his QB there is little upside for his season. I’d at least hope Cam is the guy from the start so they can build some confidence in each other and maybe they can make some noise later in the season.
Matt Hasselbeck: Hass is a Titan and that isn’t going to bring about a tectonic shift in the NFL landscape, but it does help stabilize the Titans who have one of the best running backs in the league and the talented Jared Cook and Kenny Britt. Hass doesn’t have a bombers arm, but is good enough to keep Britt and Cook relevant and help take some pressure of Chris Johnson (if he suits up this season).
Donovan McNabb: I really like this move for Adrian Peterson and Percy Harvin, but sure wish that Sidney Rice had stuck around. McNabb still has some left in the tank and I believe will enjoy the domed air while airing it out, but the other receivers that will be on the team are still a bit of a mystery. The Vikings are looking hard at all the receivers still on the market including Malcom Floyd and Braylon Edwards. They also picked up Devin Aromashodu. Whoever gets that #1 spot will have some value.
Steve Breaston: The Chiefs new wide receiver has the faith of his old receivers coach, Todd Haley, and may be worth watching this season in fantasy, but I’m taking a wait and see approach right now. This hurts Jonathan Baldwin’s chances to make an impact this year as well.
Lance Moore: Moore re-signed with the Saints and is poised for a productive season. Brees loves him and Marques Colston and Robert Meachem both are coming of surgery. If I’m taking a flier on a Saint this season it is Moore.
Kyle Orton: He could still make it to Miami, but the deal isn’t set in stone yet. If you own Brandon Marshall you sure hope he does.
