Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

They say good things come in pairs and for the most part they’re right.  Who’s this ‘they’ you keep talking about?  You wouldn’t know them, it’s the Royal They, Imaginary Reader.  So you’re just making another long-winded intro about nothing then.  Yes, and you’re extending.  Duly noted, please proceed.  As I was saying, good things come in pairs is the idiom which I can agree with most times.  I mean, for the expecting family who wants to have at least two kids, maybe they start out with twins?  And even if they don’t, there’s always the black market, right?  Woah, wait I guess we shouldn’t talk about how I’m able to spend all my time righting about fantasy sports…moving on!  There’s socks, shoes, pants, breasts, doublemint gum, double rainbows…the list of frivolous things that totally ruin the meaning of the phrase goes on.  But you know what isn’t good in pairs?  Injuries.  Specifically the broke bone variety.  After being sidelined last year with the same ailment, Andre Brown yet again with a broken left leg and I get to mark him as the second casualty to my pre-baseball All-Star break auction draft team.  Yeah, the one with roster limits that were, ahem, added AFTER we drafted.  I’m farting in your general direction, Pianowski.  Nevertheless, Brown was supposed to be the 3rd down back for short yardage, namely the goal line.  Well, that’s not happening for 4-6 weeks.  And when he gets back?  Who knows who’ll take his role on the Giants.  Maybe that role won’t be needed anymore.  In any event, for those who’ve drafted I hope you have an IR slot that’s not already filled by Percy or Le’Veon or…well, you get the point.  It’s a rough sport these guys play.  With any luck, we’ve all still got our goal line back for the Giants once his leg has mended…again.  In other 2013 Fantasy Football news…

David Wilson – Yeah, he’s rocketing up the charts for me.  Probably my 15th back off the board at this point; I’ll be doing a final swing at rankings this weekend.  Maybe I can figure out why the Standard section keeps mucking up on me.  Wish me luck!

Quinton Patton – When a QB loves a wideout!  He can’t throw to no one else…he’d trade Anquan Boldin in for the good thing he’s found.  That’s a little Michael Bolton for you on a Friday.  You’re welcome.  I’m only half kidding about the Boldin thing but remember when I said he could be useful but I think Kaep will find someone else before the season ends to be his primary wideout target?  Yep, you might be witnessing it right now.  Patton’s a rookie and will have some rookie problems but consider this the final call on Patton.  Could be a breakout player with where his ADP is.

Robert Griffin, III – Cleared to play week 1.  Y’all were like ‘RGIII the 5th best QB this year?  Isn’t he hurt?’ and I be all like ‘This is how I roll, animal print pants outta control’ and you be like ‘I’m done reading your blog’.  What I’m trying to say is I’m sexy and I know it and the RGIII discount was silly in the first place.  WIGGLEWIGGLEWIGGLEWIGGLE, YEAH.

    LOL on your RG3 blurb.
Rotoworld is reporting some scare factor by claiming Andrews is worried about how they plan to use him, but if he stays upright, I’ll be dancing too. Only pick I haven’t had any second thoughts about yet. (A sign the season needs to start ASAP or I need to focus a little more on my real jobs.)

      Ha, thanks!

I get the worry, but given what he did last year – being a top 3 QB – it’s hard not to take the upside in a league with only 1 QB to start. Can always make up for him if he goes down.

  2. Hans says:
    (link)

I’m between Martin and Spiller at two and trying to weigh the facts. I know you rank the muscle hamster one overall but what is your reasoning? Are you worried about Freeman’s play at all or the potential of a sophomore slump? Thanks!

    • Hans says:
      (link)

@Hans: Also what is your outlook on Foster with him returning to practice?

      • Sky

        Sky says:
        (link)

My outlook has been the same all offseason; I have had him ranked outside the top 5 backs since May. He’s a back who had a heavy workload last year. I wouldn’t be surprised if he sees his workload reduced this year.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

If I’m worried about Freeman’s play, why wouldn’t I be worried about a rookie QB? Buffalo’s not any better off if we’re going to do a team eval on why to draft. I trust Martin to be the guy in TB with little to no one behind him to step in at the goal line or at any time to take the load away. Can’t say I feel the same about Spiller.

@Casey: Both RB are in line for big years.

      Decker > Welker IMO

    • Sky

      Sky says:

I like both bit with Browns injury you I’d give Wilson the nod now.

Quality vs quantity. Think Decker will have a WR2 year but won’t be counted on for short yardage plays anymore. Probably sees an increase in YPC but a reduction in receptions.

  10. EDUB says:
    (link)

Would you drop Kendall Wright for Patton? Wright is my fill in for J Gordon until he comes back from suspension.

I also have an offer of M Wallace for my B Pierce and K Wright. Pull the trigger in PPR? We start 3 WR and 2 flex, B Pierce is manning of them now.

    • EDUB says:

I totally spaced Bell’s lis franc injury. Fudge! I don’t have an IR spot in my league. Safe to drop him for one of these RBs?
    Moreno
    Dwyer

Which one would you rather have? Both will be on my bench for now. Honestly, I could probably handle having Bell on my bench until he’s healthy enough to play. Ivory is my 4th RB, first to come off the bench if need be.

I love me some RG3 this year. The Monday night game against Philly should be a fun one to watch.

@walter paytony: I don’t know what he needs vs what you’d want in return for Hilton.

The only issue with your team I see is your WRs. Lot of WR2/3s. You’re going to need Nicks to stay healthy and excel back to what he has been in the past to make that crew work. Outside of that, it’s a solid enough looking team, good RB depth if Mathews is your RB4.

    BENCH
    Tony Romo
    Stevie Johnson
    Lamar Miller
    Le’Veon Bell
    Josh Gordon
    Roy Helu
    Marcel Reece

With Joique Bell on the waiver wire I’m torn with whether or not I should drop Helu or Reece so I could have a Reggie Bush handcuff, however, I’m thinking if Bush goes down, the carries will be more or less split between Joique and Leshoure. But, if D-Mac or Alfred Morris go down, I’d have some bonafide trade bait, and with Lamar Miller waiting on my bench, he could fill admirably for Bush.

So, should I cuff Bush? Would Joique produce the same, or would Leshoure vulture it to hell?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I’d take Bell over Reece but they’re pretty close for me; I don’t think you have much to worry about with Bush, DMC will more likely give the better opportunity for a full time back but Bell’s a better talent. LeShoure played himself out of a role in Detroit this preseason. I’m not worried about him.

        (link)

Was hoping you’d tell me to stand pat for confirmation. You did say they’re close, lol.

@Sky: We have an IR spot but only if he’s on PUP I think. But I like Leveon’s upside as other steeler options are horrid. Do you think Leveon is worth the wait if I can afford it? What’s up with Ivory? Is he the man with the Jets or iffy?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Ivory’s still the man, he wasn’t healthy in preseason, still learning the ropes. He’ll be fine.

I keep hearing Bell will go on the PUP, maybe news has changed since last I checked. My only concern with him is I don’t know if either of those other guys step up while he’s away if he loses some reps. He’s worth the gamble, though, since Joique won’t be starting anytime soon.

Sup Brotha!!! So just a couple questions. I can drop Santonio Holmes for, Bradford or Phillip Rivers? Should I drop Bennett for Heath Miller? Doubt but worth a try, Akers for Josh Brown?? And Pitt Defense for Atlanta, Tennessee, Minnesota or Miami??

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I ranked Bradford ahead of Rivers so Bradford…

Heath Miller probably isn’t going to be playing any time soon so no…

I haven’t looked at any matchups yet for DEF or K. They’re streaming options, they’re based on who they play.

8 teamers are always stacked but I really like your bench. 5 startable RBs is nice. Megatron/Colston pairing should be rock solid all year and Garcon/Jordy have plenty of upside. Probably wouldn’t have taken another TE since you have Graham but minor quibbles. Looks like it should be competitive.

In the first round I got AP. My other RBs include CJ, L Miller, DeAngelo, Ingram, Hillman and Gerhart. Do you think AP’s handcuff holds any value? Or should I grab another RB like Hunter, Tolbert, Turbin, WR Tate, D Moore or an extra DP as I don’t have a filler for my first DP BYE in week 8

Didn’t need the backup QB unless there’s positional restrictions. Good RB set, would’ve liked a bit more upside on your bench regarding WR but you’re still good. Team looks promising

  28. Jack Full O' Hate says:
    (link)

Going to drop Brown, for a bench stash I’m leaning Hartline or Patton or Ingram, Fred jackson, Hillman, Helu and Michael…..It makes me sick to my stomach just typing all these names. I’m thinking Ingram in case he decides to actually play running back this year.

Also playing upside, do you like Patterson in Min. or Patton in SF?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Ingram needs a PT injury to realize his potential. He’s a flex play. If rather go with Patton there and yes that’s over Cordarelle at this point.

      • Jack Full O' Hate says:
        (link)

@Sky: I’m thinkin Fred jackson gets more play than people are going to expect. That offense could end be terrible and defenses most end up beating the crap out of CJ. The quarterback situation looks to be one of the worst in the league, I would feel better if they would of stuck with Harvard boy. Am I kinda right?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

He will and I agree about Fitz but that’s still not a ringing endorsement to pick up Fred if that’s what you’re looking for.

          • Jack Full O' Hate says:
            (link)

@Sky: also throwing things out as I think about my ranks, after all my review it’s a f**king mess all over the place. This is harder than I thought because I’m looking at them, the guy in front of them, hell, what even constitutes a handcuff. Is Fred Jackson a higher ranked played than Daniel Thomas? Spiller is established and should be the feature, but does Lamar live up to the RB1 in Miami, and don’t even get me started with the Shitcinati shituation for the first couple of weeks, i say play none of them until we see something

            Do you need more commishes?

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

I don’t know if we do, you’d have to hit up JB at this point. He’s running that show.

And THIS is why, I don’t get into handcuffing backs. Just draft 4 to 5 with known roles, keep your eye on waivers for guys who might surprise and roll on. Daniel Thomas could become a best or become a back that barely gets 75 carries. Pretending we know, is a joke we play upon ourselves.

              • Jack Full O' Hate says:
                (link)

@Sky: then maybe I need to re-think what I’m writing over here

                (link)

                @Sky: Coffee in body good

Yes it is a bad joke we play, but isn’t that a big part of why we play fantasy, that we are gluttons for punishment. I think, like the closer report, I need to rank the lead backs and list the handcuffs with +/- every week and then maybe feature a couple of good plays or a crazy hunch on what feature back has been looking banged up and primed to go down or lose their job

Hey Sky, I need some input. Had a draft last night that was thrown off balance from the start. One guy takes Brees and Rodgers 1st rnd 2nd rnd. Another guy takes Brady 2nd rnd Newton 3rd rnd. Kind of made the rest panic. I ended up with: Lynch, Jones-Drew, Andre Johnson,Colston, Kaepernick, Ivory, Wallace, Cook. My bench has Moreno and Dwyer for RB. Who would you drop Moreno or Dwyer for Joique Bell, Reece, Pead, Helu, LaMichael James,Dunbar, Turbin?

    16 Steve Haushzcka K

I know everyone loves their draft on draft night, but I really feel good about this team. ( or at least feel fairly confident I didn’t screw up too bad with it) I think my keys were having CJ2K fall to me at the end of the 2nd and Stevie Johnson falling in the 9th as a starting WR on my bench for depth. Also psyched to nab Olsen, Vereen and Harvin (already have Harvin on IR and waiting on waivers for either Marcus Wheaton or Quinton Patton) Maybe a little light on WR depth but still some options on waivers, while league mates were scraping the bottom for RB’s in those teen rds…..

    Thoughts?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@sange_da_man: Well, I’m not an Olsen fan – neither the twins nor the He-Man TE – and I still have my doubts about Montee Ball this year. I also don’t believe in backup QBs or TEs but since you got a TE I like as your second one (Cook), I think that was a nice move. Probably could’ve taken some swings at other guys at pick 10 where you took your defense, too. Your draft feels/seems a bit uneven but you have reasonable steady players at WR with upside on your bench and a good RB set. It should be a competitive team.

    SKY!!!

    I have a question regarding week 1:

    Roster

    QB – Matt Ryan
    WR – AJ Green
    WR – Julio Jones
    WR – Andre Johnson
    RB – Ray Rice
    RB – Adrian Foster
    TE – Zach Sudfeld
    B – Jordy Nelson
    B – Rob Gronkoski
    B – D. Richardson
    B – Cameron
    B – Ingram
    B – Chris Givens
    K – Matt Prater
    DEF – Denver

10 Team H2H – Aside from having possibly the most ridiculous team ever, I traded Lamar Miller and Jared Cook for Foster and Cameron immediately after my draft.

Question is: Foster says he’s healthy, and even without a “FULL WORKLOAD”, do you think his workload will increase throughout the season? Would you suggest starting Richardson in Week 1, or see how he progresses as the season progresses?

Also, should I go with Sudfeld in Week 1, or Cameron?

    Thanks!!!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

You traded for Foster, you should be starting Foster. He’s your RB2, you’re not taking on any risk starting him over D-Rich.

I haven’t looked at schedules yet on who to start; I’m too busy writing/working on rankings/on tiers/on auction values to say right now along with comments. I’ll say Sudfeld for now.

    • frankgrimes says:

@TarmanGotHim: I’d find a deeper more competitive league.

  34. TarmanGotHim says:

    Also,

Would you trade Rudolph for Sudfeld?

I have Rudolph in 2 of my 6 leagues, but I felt forced to draft him, I do not like him much, but depending on my teams, maybe I can just benefit from TDs and not Yards.

    Thanks again bud.

    • Sky

I like Rudolph but you don’t even need 3 TEs so I’m not sure why you’d want to complicate things further by having 3 from different teams once Gronk comes back. I’d hold.

Not much to elaborate on. It’s a 14 team league. Wheaton is talented and could be a starter before long this year. Baldwin just because the other two have zero value currently and he might figure it out in SF.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Big League Choo: Try and upgrade at WR. Who you have are good but you could get a monster WR1 if the other team wants them bad enough. Very solid auction there, looks like a good team. Vick’s a risk but he’s one I’m willing to take.

@Sky: 14 Team Keeper league. Very deep league with 2 TE and 2 FLEX spots. I’d be giving up a draft pick next year. There’s basically no TE left on waivers.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Gotcha…depends on how high of a round you’re giving away. But I’m being honest when I say I don’t think there’s gonna be enough targets for him to be viable, despite the talent. Just depends on the price of that pick whether it’s really worth it.

  40. the imp says:
    (link)

    Hey Sky,
In PPR I play the Gronk owner Wk1 and he hasn’t handcuffed with Sudfield yet. What do you think of dropping Olsen for Sudfield and then working the wire to replace Sudfield once Gronk is back? Is this too short term thinking?

    • the imp says:
      (link)

@the imp: OK as soon I sent this a voice in mind head says: “Classic overthinking. We don’t know Sudfield is any good, I’d hold for now.”

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I don’t know if Sudfeld really is a short term option; gotta remember the Pats rolled with two viable fantasy TEs before. He could step up in a big way. I have no problem taking a chance on him if you’ve got Cook in the wings.

      • the imp says:
        (link)

@Sky: Yeah, if Cook was there I’d feel I had more insurance and go for it. Unfortunately, he was drafted as one of the 18 TEs that are currently rostered (3 were picked R12-13 when kids grabbed their K and DST early). We have short benches, and some of these guys have to come back to the wire eventually (one owner has VDavis/Cameron for example). So if Sudfield bombs, it gets a little sketchy for now, but would probably resolve itself eventually.

The other reason to grabs Suds is to look for a trade. The owner is RB needy (carrying only 3, Brown is one of them), so I am also thinking about offering Olsen + Bradshaw (or Vereen, but I like him better than you) now or Nicks + RB for Gronk once I get Gordon back in week 3. Do either of these sound plausible?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

I’d talk with the owner now. It would make more sense to do that then guess what they want/expect.

          • the imp says:
            (link)

@Sky: Thanks man. I have sent a nibble out and Sudfield is locked on waivers until Tuesday night so there is time for a real trade to form and evaluate.

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

              Nice, good luck!

              • the imp says:
                (link)

@Sky: Okay. Maybe you aren’t reading this post still, but just wanted to come back one more time without starting over. At a simple emotional level, I’m pretty compelled to block the Gronk owner since he is starting Eifert and the best he could offer in a trade is Gronk/scrub/scrub for Foster/Nicks/Olsen.

If none of the ECR top 16 (for the year) are on waivers, would you be willing to drop Olsen for Suds without a net, would you drop Vick instead, or would you lean to the hold?

                • Sky

                  Sky says:
                  (link)

@the imp: Eh, I don’t get ‘block the owner’ nor what ERC means. He doesn’t want to make a trade. No big deal. There’s nothing wrong with Eifert.

TE is streamable. Just pick up Sudfeld and see what he can do. Drop Olsen like I originally said.

                  • the imp says:
                    (link)

                    @Sky:
Thanks for clarifying, the “if a guy like Cook was on waivers” made me uncertain of your advice.
ECR is for “Expert Combined Ranking” from Fantasy Pros that you use with your rankings.
Given that the ECR groupthink would say, “you are a dumbass for dropping Olsen who was ranked significantly higher at draft time and slightly higher for this week than Suds,” I was and am still in doubt about my move. Sorry to drag you through that, just trying to keep you busy.

                      (link)

Ha, no prob. Yeah, it’s early and your league isn’t extremely deep. I’d rather take the shot at upside over a guy like Olsen, which I described in my original top 20 TE rankings post. Guys like Olsen you buy because they bore you and later in the season you wished you took a shot on somebody else like Pitta. I say unless you have a top 4 or 5 TE this year, just aim for upside and see how the chips fall. It’s an easy enough position to cover if you need to in standard leagues.

Is this two different leagues/scenarios? I’m confused. If it’s two separate ones…

I’d probably want at least 2 QBs in the first 6 rounds in that scenario as well. Just be wary of when an RB run occurs.

In my league, most people draft QBs in the early rounds to capitalize on the extra offensive position. My philosophy is to get the most pts I can no matter what position is available. However , Im hesistant to complete my roster with subpar QBs given that most of the elite QBs will be gone and they are so highly valued in this draft…Do you have any advice for this scenario? i see you have reece slightly higher than greene and joique. I’m reading reece isn’t the backup to mcglass though, it’s jennings. If that’s the case which would i be better off with, bell or greene, i’m hearing greene will be goal line guy, but bell has obv passing down work. Also which will be better if both bush and johnson go down and they are starting? Non-PPR here, if it was obv Bell’s best. I’m worried about anybody on OAK entirely. Even if Reece were to get that job it probably wouldn’t be as good as last year.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Well, Jennings is…well, his stats from last year kinda speak for themselves. Reece I still think gets his foot in the door as a PPR guy. I don’t think you can say that about OAK and then not worry about Greene. You won’t see many GL totes from a team lead by Locker, IMHO. Bell isn’t bad but he’s Reggie Bush part deux. Detroit kinda boned themselves paying more for Reggie when they already had a similar back on hand. As much as I like Bell, I question what he can do that Reggie can’t, I.E. what’s his real role on that offense?

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
        (link)

@Sky: it appears you’re saying stick with Reece if it was a PPR. In this case it’s a non-PPR. I still think TEN’s offense will be better than OAK’s enough to make Greene more valuable, if non-PPR. And if all three starters were hurt Bell would likely be best option, PPR or not.

    DMac
    ABradshaw
    Roddy
    AJohnson

I know I’m light on RB but who would you target from the list of available players below for my first pick? Would you go RB/WR, WR/RB or just try and knock WR out of the park and go WR/WR being that its PPR? Then grab some upside backs while everyone scrambles for WR’s/

Target ‘dola; he’d be a great WR3 and would make your starting WRs amazing. If not him, then I’d give Shorts a shot. That’s a lot of RB talent getting thrown back. In a keeper, try for the young guns. Miller top target. Ivory second, Gio third, Lacy 4th

There is nothing to draft for me. I actually like Floyd to be Rivers go to guy this year, and for a 1 point PPR, could be a good sleeper for me. Tell me again why JB did 1 point per?

Found advice on another site that says to draft the kicker that goes with your QB (or best player).

I ended up with RGIII and his kicker, Kai Forbath.

Do you have a problem with this strategy? And, if so, who should I drop Kai for? Ryan Succop, Caleb Sturgis, Josh Scobee.

Not taking Suisham because it’s hard to kick at Heinz Field.

    • frankgrimes says:
      (link)

@James: nah it’s an old sound strategy. Ive done it before since I could care less bout Kickers. Basically it’s for when your QB doesn’t punch it in you still get the field goal(and feel less upset).

      • James says:
        (link)

But if the QB scores a TD, then your kicker misses an opportunity, lol. Nice consolation, though. And,an extra-point!

I am actually thinking of picking up recently dropped Andre Brown for value. Thoughts?

    (link)

14 team auction, we start 7 IDPs..but won’t fool with posting them since my question is offense related. 0.33 PPR…not sure why, but whatever…lol. Anyways, here is the team.

    Kaep
    V Jax
    DeSean Jackson/Michael Floyd ( undecided )
    S Jax
    Lacy
    Olsen
    Bush

As usual in a deeper league with IDP’s my bench isn’t great….Pierce, Powell, Heyward-Bey, Tannehill, and of course either DeSean or Floyd.

So, should I be worried about the inconsistency I may get from WR? I decided to spend and focus on getting 3 good backs…and got hung out to dry in the WR game…which I knew may happen. Also, I wanted Kaep on one team, dude is a freak…so spent a bit to get him. I am leaning DeSean over Floyd at this point…we have return yards at 20 per point ( he is back to returning punts), as that cat is pretty standard when you have IDP’s. Also, hoping that Philly offensive pace does something good for him…still it’s foolish to expect more than 65/100/6 from him. I’d like to think my 3 backs can help mitigate my WR worries. Or, are my worries a bit over blown in a league this size? As always, appreciate your thoughts man.

      • JoeMorgan'sMustache says:
        (link)

@JoeMorgan’sMustache: Holy shit…65/1000/6. Had two drafts today…that ran together…was in a chair for basically 7 hours and closing and opening tabs half the time like a mad man…that’s my excuse.

    • Sky

      Sky says:

Would’ve liked to see a WR with a shot at 80 rec on your team but 14 teamers always make you thin somewhere. Team doesn’t look too bad. Maybe Floyd steps up his year

      • JoeMorgan'sMustache says:
        (link)

@Sky: Yeah, those are my thoughts too man. I missed on Cruz because my eyes were crossed from going back and forth…V Jax was easily the best option left after that, and what do you know they went for the same price. I would have preferred Cruz…it is what it is. Thanks for the feedback.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

I do like VJax, just not as a WR1; him and DeSean are just too similar. That said, waivers can make that change in a heartbeat. Better then being short a back or 2.

          • JoeMorgan'sMustache says:
            (link)

@Sky: Yeah…seems like that’s the price I paid for targeting 3 backs. Personally, I pretty much always want a back at flex…if I can make it happen. Like you said, hard not to have some type of weakness in deeper leagues…we shall see how it pans out. Maybe I find a nice player or two on wire, or Floyd makes a bigger leap than expected.

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

Colston/Dola have been my fall backs in the 3rd or 4th round for that issue. Colston’s never flashy but he’s good for top 15 numbers at his position. Dola could have a big year in NE. That said, 14 teamer, ya never know how things will go.

              • JoeMorgan'sMustache says:
                (link)

@Sky: Yeah man, I like those two as well, just how it ended up going auction style. V Jax wasn’t even on my radar, but after Cruz was gone ( still pissed I missed him)…I had to go after him since no other WR left on the board wasn’t even in the top 20.

                • JoeMorgan'sMustache says:
                  (link)

@JoeMorgan’sMustache: To give you an idea…my first 4 offensive picks went like this…

                  Kaep $25
                  S Jax $32
                  Lacy $25
                  Bush $24

I don’t see any of those as a real overpay ( maybe Kaep…but as I said wanted him on at least one team), but as you can see I spent at those positions…left some money over for Cruz, and completely missed it. Then paid $24 for V Jax…Cruz went same price right before him.

Budget is standard $200, but with the added 7 IDP’s.

It may end up not being as bad as I think…teams I look at and see as good in there, each have what could be deemed a hole or two, and quite a few have a rather pedestrian flex. If they are strong at WR…they lack at RB, or maybe Flex…and vise versa.

Not a bad overpay on Kaep. I always say $20 for my starting QB. Fudging 5 here and there is never that bad. Bush at 24 is solid as is the SJax price. Lacy may be a bit overpriced but it depends on how much you believe in him. RBs never go at the price they should.

    8. (112) Chris Ivory (NYJ – RB)
    9. (113) Vincent Brown (SD – WR)
    10. (140) Shane Vereen (NE – RB)
    11. (141) Jordan Cameron (Cle – TE)
    12. (168) Josh Brown (NYG – K)
    13. (169) Justin Blackmon (Jac – WR)
    14. (196) Arizona (Ari – DEF)
    15. (197) Julius Thomas (Den – TE)
    16. (224) Terrelle Pryor (Oak – QB)

I was forced away from the computer after the Blackmon pick, not impressed with the autopicks of Thomas and Pryor.

Think I got great value with Ivory at 112 and Vereen at 140.

I think Marshall/Bush/Sproles looks good given the 1/2 pt PPR.

Are my WRs ok? Romo went about 5 picks before my Vick pick, he’s who I was shooting for at QB. Can I live with Vick as my QB?

Vick’s fine, very solid team all around. If Jordan Cameron hits, you’re in the money. Well done.

        @Sky:

I had actually drafted Ivory in a different league around 60th overall, got a LOT of raised eyebrows, so I figured I could get some better value for him.

Did NOT expect him to last all the way to 112.

Guess these guys aren’t reading your blog

Lot of hot names out there who aren’t even full-blown starters for their teams (Vereen/Gio) getting taken before a lead back is just weird to me. Even Shonne Green was an RB2 by the numbers last year and he was terrible. People are crazy.

@Alex: Yeah. In my eyes this team is redicilously good. Some risk at WR past Marshall but I think you got 4 guys with great upside. Very well done.

10 team PPR- Had 10th pick. QB, RB, RB, RB/WR, WR, WR, TE, K, D. Sky, whatcha think?

    Stafford/Romo
    McCoy/LMiller/ABradshaw/LBell/Bryce Brown
    Calvin Johnson/Andre Johnson/GTate/JGordon
    Graham
    Bullock
    STL D/NE D

Decent depth all around. Probably your Romo or Stafford pick could’ve been another RB. If Bell comes back healthy/strong/fast, this will be a very solid team. Not understanding how you got Megatron/Shady, though, and topped it off with Graham at TE. Those three go in the top 15-20, someone must’ve fallen asleep at your draft.

      • PublicEnemy#1 says:

@Sky: I was a little shocked as well to land Graham at the end of the third. It’s almost as you said…the league went RB happy early with 17 RBs taken through two rounds and then a WR run in the third almost put people to sleep on Graham. Landing Shady/Mega with my first two picks gave me pure joy! Thanks for the review.

You think Ivory is still worth a mid 6th round pick in PPR? he fell around 25 spots on some of the draft boards I was looking at and his ADP is 7th round now in the tiered league im in.

Take advantage of the discount if they’re willing to give it to you. Him and Bradshaw looking like very good RB3s via their ADP right now.

12 Team .5 PPR 4 PT Passing TD 1 PT 20 Passing Yards

    QB: Brees
    RB: R. Bush
    RB: Ivory
    WR: Calvin Johnson
    WR: Nicks
    WR: Lance Moore
    TE: Gronk/Sudfeld
    Flex: Vereen

Bench: Tate, Moreno, Dwyer, Blackman, Hartline, Harvin

    Overall thoughts on the team?

    Also…
Drafted Dwyer without knowing he got released: Any of these WW guys jump out at you as the pick up…

Dobson, Stills, Collie, Wheaton, K. Allen, Aldrick Robinson

Jonathon Franklin, Felix Jones, Daniel Thomas, Lance Dunbar, Stephen Taylor

or a shot in the dark on FAs Llyod, Turner, McGahee

Pretty deep league so I’m probably looking for highest upside.

    Appreciate all your hard work.
    Thanks in advance…

I’m not sold on Moore as a WR3 but you more then made up for it with Blackmon/Harvin who’ll help you down the road. Like your RBs. If Moreno sticks, you’re sitting good there. Overall, not a bad squad. Drop Dwyer for Wheaton.

  74. I’m really curious as to how I did. I feel like I massively banked as a 9th in 10 team, but of course, what do I know preseason! 2 QB, 3 WR, 2 RB, 1 Flex (no QB), DST, DL, DB, LB, K

    1. (9) Trent Richardson (wut.)
    2. (12) Ray Rice (huh?!?!?!)
    3. (29) Demaryius Thomas
    4. (32) Russell Wilson
    5. (49) Reggie Wayne
    6. (52) Eli Manning
    7. (69) Vernon Davis
    8. (72) Giovani Bernard
    9. (89) Tavon Austin
    10. (92) Mike Williams
    11. (109) New England
    12. (112) Bernard Pierce
    13. (129) James Laurinaitis
    14. (132) Morgan Burnet
    15. (149) Charles Johnson
    16. (152) EJ Manuel
    17. (169) Brandon Myers
    18. (172) Justin Tucker
    19. (189) D’Qwell Jackson
    20. (192) Brandon Weeden (lol waiver spot, dropped for Patton for some reason)

Not a bad looking team. Would’ve liked one more startable RB on my bench for a 10 teamer. Probably would’ve aimed for another in your 4-6 rounds. I’m assuming you start a TE even though you don’t say you do? If you don’t, VD was a wasted pick. Could’ve gone with more WRs there. With Patton on board, you’ve got a solid WR bench. Overall, main concern is RB depth over the course of the year.

      • @Sky:

I realized that after reading some more of these blogs. Son of a bitch! But yes, forgot to mention there is a TE starting spot. How soon do you think Gio’s gonna take over the reins?

here’s another drafted team, this one has the same .1 pts per return yard as normal scrimmage yards. 1 pt PPR as well. Lot of value in return men in this league. This was an abandoned team that had 1 forced keeper. I went Rodgers over Marshall; really no other choices (6 pts per TD throw) 2 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1QB,1 W/RB.
Keeper round will count as the 1st round of snake so Rodgers in that round. 12 team.
    22. sproles (kick and punt returns, is top 10 RB in these kind of leagues, when healthy)
    27. cobb (both kick and punt returns, probably slightly less than last year, still pretty much a harvin role here)
46 Miller (last starter I liked left)
51 Gronk (he wouldn’t be around later, i did miss, by 3 picks, bernard by doing this)
70 Vereen (should be good in PPR, right, did miss j.nelson by 2 picks from picking vereen, kinda worried about having 3 GB people, esp 2 WR at same time)
75 Jacoby jones (would’ve grabbed Nelson here, jones is top 5 returner at both punt and kick, will likely have small role in offense as well, bigger than last year, anyway, scored over 12 per game last year in this league). Could’ve gotten him a few (5?) rounds later except around 3 other owners are smart enough to grab big time returner early too.
94 Ben tate (useful by himself, would turn into top 10 back if the already injured foster gets more hurt/doesn’t heal properly)
    99. g.jennings (probably should have reversed him and jacoby and still ended up with both, did anyway
118 P.thomas (eh, some punt returns too)
123 sanders (seems solid for this late, some returns)
    141 heyward-bey (2nd or 3rd, this is a good situation)
147 jacquizz (who really thinks s-jax stays healthy? does punts too)
    166 Browns D (good matchup week 1 and 3)
171 Bullock (amazing how good of matchups kicker can be found on the 10th drafted kicker)
Right when I finished drafting DHB i realized I’ll need a fill in TE till Gronk’s back. who’s the drop. Heyward bey?
In leagues like this you can usually fill in for bye weeks/injured starters a LOT easier due to the equal return yards. K.Martin/Mariani/Reynaud (last year) have decent value, most weeks getting at least 9 pts just from returns alone. Harvin (per game) and Cobb last year were both top 5 overall non-QB players due to the return yardage. Sproles near that, even without his glut of PPR style gains.

Solid looking squad, especially with that return yardage scoring setup. You’ll always have a high floor point total available to you with Sproles/Cobb in that respect. SJax has missed 2 games in the last 4 years total. Think a lot of people are plotting his demise prematurely there. But J-Rodg will give you rec/return yardage so there’s that. Go ahead and drop DHB, you don’t really have anyone else to do so with.

I’d take Moreno for the possibility of him being a full-blown starter even if they might end up in similar situations to each other. Go for it.

Whats up Sky… Funny thing about A. Brown. We had our draft last thurs in a bar that had TV’s with pre season NFL games on. I kid you not. At the exact time I drafted Brown he broke his fuckin leg. What are your thoughts on my draft… 14 team H2H 1pt PPR 1 QB 2wr 2rb 1 flex

I spaced out and took a QB way to late
    qb S. Bradford
    wr C. Johnson
    wr D. Bowe
    rb S. Jax
    rb R. Mathews
    te A. Gates
    flx G. Bernard
    k K. Forbath
    D Rams

    bench

    J. Bell
    B. Powell
    J. Gordon
    K. Britt
    M. Sanu
    T. Austin

as you can see I have no back up QB, D, K or TE…I’ll just stream when I need to I guess. Talk me off the ledge or push me over. I don’t think I did that great of a job
