Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

Week 3 was such a see-saw for me.  Like a Roseanne Barr vs. Vince Wilfork see-saw.  On the one hand, my Panthers had probably the most shocking win so far this season after that Giants beat down, especially since the Giants beat us 36-7 last year.  That’s a see-saw right there!  Then my writer’s league team moved to 3-0.  On the flip side, my long-time dynasty league had probably my worst week in over 10 years and my DraftKings picks, well, sorry…

But whilst real life hath few second chances, DraftKings gives you a blank slate, a fresh start, a new set of wings.  Because every time Colin Kaepernick sucks it up, an angel loses its wings.  I kid Kappy!  I was just hoping he would favorite that too

After a tough outing last week, I’m excited to start anew with DraftKings contests this week.  I’m going to hop in the $2 Qualifier into the Millionaire Grand Final, where the top winner gets an entry into their week 17 Become a Millionaire Finale where someone will add 7 figures to their bankroll just for picking the best line-up!  And if you’re new to DraftKings, you can get into that contest FREE if you’re a first time depositor.  So if you’re lamenting a brutal team like I am in a few leagues, hop into some DraftKings action today!

Taking a ride on an angel to last week’s picks:

QB – Colin Kaepernick  13-27  150 Yds  20 Rush Yds  (6 Pts)

RB – Stevan Ridley  35 Rush Yds  1 Rec  8 Yds  (5.3 Pts)

WR – Julian Edelman  7 Rec  44 Yds  (11.4 Pts)

FLEX – Tyler Eifert  1 Rec  7 Yds  (1.7 Pts)

TOTAL: 24.4  (previous week’s total: 70.24 Pts)

Not gonna sugar coat it – probably my worst DraftKings selections including the 20ish weeks of baseball.  Pretty much everything that could’ve went wrong did; Kaepernick in what looked like a soft matchup in a bounceback game turned out to be a tough matchup and another colossal failure; at least Ridley didn’t fumble, but with the game out of hand and Josh Freeman upchucking his career Belichick let LeGarrette Blount smoke his former team; then the Packers looked awful and the Bengals D won them the game, not the passing game.  Ugh.  Awful.  Thank god (or an angel) this wasn’t a team I drafted and would have to stick with all year!  Here’s who I like in week 4 for DraftKings action:

QB – Peyton Manning ($9,700) – Enough of this dinking and dunking.  It’s making me drink and drunk.  I’m going all in with Peyton at QB, who should have a fun time dismembering the Eagles secondary in a big shootout.  Everyone knows Peyton is playing at a historic level right now, so I’m spending on probably fantasy’s surest thing.

RB – Jacquizz Rodgers ($4,700) – Despite last week having yet another see-saw in the Falcons backfield – Snelling getting so many catches and Jacquizz more carries – I think the backfield plays out more to what we’d typically expect.  Look for Jacquizz to get double-digit carries and I’m going to put the over/under on 5 catches in what should be a fairly high-scoring game.  Tom Brady and the Pats O will still be working things out even if they have a lead and the Falcons are playing for their lives trying to avoid a 1-3 start.

WR – Julian Edelman ($5,800) – Well I might as well go with the only guy who did anything for me last week.  Edelman is an uber-consistent performer in the DraftKings PPR-format.  Despite only the 44 yards last week, the 7 catches were gold and I think that’s his floor against the Birds, who I think everyone expects will play the Pats harder than the Bucs did last week.  He may not have the biggest ceiling, but you’ll get a guaranteed double-digit game.

FLEX – DeAndre Hopkins ($5,o00) – Hopkins comes into week 4 with a whopping 26 targets in the first three weeks, and I expect that same rate of love coming at him this Sunday.  With Richard Sherman surely shadowing (say that three times fast) Andre Johnson, Hopkins is going to get a lot of looks.  Seattle’s D is obviously playing like the league’s best – I’m not excited for anyone in the Texans run game or AJ himself – so I think it’s Hopkins that gets a lot of the production, and at a very reasonable price.

    Hey JB,

wondering your take on these receivers, as i have to fill jordy nelson’s void this week:

Hartline or Broyles (just got him off waivers and happy, but my logic and sky both said hartline)

    What do you think?

@Willy: Logic, Sky and JB all agree :). But nice pick up of Broyles, has great upside now after Burleson’s demolition derby.

@JB Gilpin: Okay, sounds good man… Good luck with your draftKings and all the pools you’re in for week 4…

You still alive in baseball? I’m certainly not, lol… Segura didn’t end up being a nice trade back in July… then again, Harvey who I traded for him didn’t work out too and likely will be a write off for next year once he hurts himself early and then regrets not doing the tommy john when he should have (keeper pool)… Here’s hoping Segura of first have shows up all next season!

@Willy: Thanks man! Yeah fighting for my life a few points atop a roto league and wrapped up a h2h title last week (ended a week early). I think Segura will be fine, power will be about the same, more runs.

Wusup Brotha!!! I’m showing you my lineup so it might help with some questions.. I’m still kinda in need of another WR and in waivers I keep passing guys like Hopkins HOU, Broyles and so on. Now my waiver number is 1. Would you start picking guys up that are a bunch of maybe’s or would you hold onto that number 1 pick for a huge moment?? I don’t know if it’s bad to keep passing on these guys

@Frank White: Hey man, since Broyles and Hopkins are gone I would hold onto your waiver

I could’ve gotten them, was that a stupid move or having the #1 pick better??

    Hello LJB Gilpn,

Please help with who to start:

    One of:
    Matt Ryan vs NE
    Andrew Luck vs JAX

    One of:
    Fred Jackson vs BAL
    Green-Ellis vs CLE
    Jacquizz Rodgers vs NE

    One of:
    Larry Fitzgerald vs TB (Revis)
    Miles Austin vs SD

    Many thanks,
    Chris

@Chris: Ryan and Fitz I think are locks, I would wait and see reports on Spiller and if he has limited work, FJax, if Spiller a normal role it’s Jacquizz.

    Hi again,

If I’ve got Eifert as my back up TE… Should I be dropping him for Heath Miller?

@Willy: Even after saying he’d be a start next week and a disaster, Id hold Eifert for the upside

  5. Yager says:

Soooo, your advice to start McGahee this last weekend not so good. Ha. As I had said though life is good with CJ and Graham, still got the W. I am still in the same conundrum (started McGahee and Montee Ball at RB last week), so I decide to pull the trigger on a trade. I am looking to see how I faired. The other owner has been Jonesing for Reggie Wayne all year.

I get: Leveon Bell, and TY Hilton
    I give: Reggie Wayne

I am left with CJ, Decker, and Emanuel Sanders/Michael Floyd/Justin Blackmon at receiver. The value hinges on Leveon Bell, do think I over-reached?

I am trying to get David Wilson on the cheap too for Sanders. Would you go this route, or target a running back with Graham, and play Heath Miller at TE.

    Thanks

    • JB Gilpin

@Yager: Lol – my advice to start McGahee?!?!?! You said him or Rainey… I guess if you wanna grill me over 9 vs. 21 yards and me saying I liked neither… Eh I guess hahaha. I think that trade is worth the upside you’re bringing in. Although, I do indeed like the Wilson for Sanders, if you can pull that one.

        @JB Gilpin:

Just giving you some shizz my friend. I asked you the old douche or turd sandwich question, I won’t be upset for you throwing an answer out. The Wilson trade is still sitting there. Hoping he gets drunk this weekend, and pulls the trigger.

@Yager: Hah was just throwing some shizz back. Don’t want someone to only see the line that I recommended Mcgahee! Lets hope all of us get drunk and Wilson finally proves me wrong one day!

            (link)

            @JB Gilpin:

Hahaha, I here ya credibility would be hard to maintain if someone read that recommendation out of context. I will be getting drunk and sacrificing dignity to the fantasy football gods, all for a David Wilson breakout!

@JB Gilpin: and if you think it should be vetoed would me giving him russell wilson even out the trade? thanks again

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@timmy riggins: Yeah since you have both QBs that should help. But I don’t think it should be vetoed as you’re not colluding. I think people vetoing trades is becoming way too common just because one side appears to be better. But that’s just my two cents!

          • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: I’ve literally never read anyone of merit and/or knowledge of fantasy sports claim any reason for trade vetoing other than collusion/cheating. Anything else is petty jealousy.

              (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: so with your 2 cents, and every other person of merit and/or intelligence + fairness it adds up to a lot of cents (sense, cause there’s no sense in nonsense)

    A Johnson vs Sea (GTD)
    Colston vs Mia
    Cruz vs KC
    Broyles vs Bears
    Edelman vs ATL
Tough matchups for my big guns and Jordy on a bye have me in a poopy sitch.
I’m thinkin Cruz, Broyles, Edelman… regardless of johnsons GTD, I’m thinkin of benchin colston and johnson and rollin the dice. Whatcha think??

    • JB Gilpin

@Scott Steelers: I still like Colston, but totally with you on AJ with him hurt and possible Sherman treatment. I’d roll out Colston Cruz and Edelman.

@JB Gilpin: Terrelle Pryor is available in my league and Sky has him ranked way higher than both my guys… It looks like he’s been cleared for contact now. Should I add him and start over both Wilson and Rivers?

        • JB Gilpin
