I am currently watching this Raiders/Broncos game and the most entertaining aspect has been Sebastian Janikowski (Sea Kow) tying the record for longest field goal at 63 yards! Otherwise it’s a crap fest of monumental proportions. Was that another flag?
I was going to give you two posts, but decided to give you a two for one deal instead! So just pay me for this one post and we are even. There are some notes from the Monday Night games (if I can stay up for this) and then some waiver wire grabs. Enjoy!
517 yards and 4 touchdowns is considered decent in fantasy circles and Tom Brady happened to throw for that exact amount (including an interception, what a piece of crap). That puts him 5th in the most passing yards in a game department and that’s a good department to be in. The Dolphins couldn’t pressure him at all and it looked like he was playing one of those new fangled video games. The Patriots are pretty good on offense.
Aaron Hernandez: Is Brady going to throw for 517 yards every game? Very possible. But who is going to get those fantasy points on the receiving end? Hernandez and Welker, oh and Branch and Gronkowski all were worth starting in this game. Will they all be from here on out? I wish I could tell you for sure, but the tight end duo is pretty damn good. Their upside is this game of course, but there’s a good chance that both will continue to put up startable numbers and sometimes break out for elite numbers. If either is a free agent they need to be owned.
Chad Henne: His goal line passing ability leaves a lot to be desired, but he did put up 416 yards passing with 2 touchdowns and 56 yards rushing and a touchdown. Can’t go wrong there. But they won’t be facing 600+ yards of offense every week and he won’t be throwing 49 times again so keep expectations lowered. But he didn’t look like total garbage so that’s decent news right there.
Reggie Bush: It looks like Bush is going to get enough work to be a useful fantasy player this season if he stays healthy. Even in games like these where he only gets 11 carries he will get receptions, which he caught 9 of with one going for a touchdown. I don’t trust him to hold up for the long haul, but it’s hard not to like the number of looks he’s getting.
Brandon Marshall: I was high on BMarsh this season and he had a nice start with 7 receptions for 139 yards, but couldn’t get a touchdown even though he got plenty of looks (I blame Henne). He looked strong and fast and like a #1 receiver. Like I said earlier, Henne won’t throw that much usually, but Marshall will be his first look all season.
Darren McFadden: He was robbed on a touchdown, but continues to just be a total badass running for 150 yards. His speed is insane and he packs a punch with it. We knew this already of course. He did get dinged up a little and left the game for a bit, but I’m walking his way.
Brandon Lloyd: He’s still going to get the majority of the targets. Even in a painful game like this one he had plenty of targets, especially in the red zone.
Jacoby Ford: He left the game with an injured hamstring. There is talent there, but Jason Campbell will have trouble getting him the ball. The good news is they are doing everything they can to get him the ball in other ways on offense, so I’m holding and even grabbing him where I can. I love his upside which is an ability to take it to the house at any time.
Knowshon Moreno: There wasn’t much good that came out of the Denver running game, and it looked like Moreno was done after he fumbled early on, but McGahee couldn’t do much of anything either and then Lance Ball scored. That’s about it. Oh and Moreno is hurting. Big surprise.
Waivering Wire
Carnell Williams: Caddy looked good in both the running and passing game and now it looks like Steven Jackson will be out next week. Sjax hurt himself pretty much by just running fast. His body continues to get tweaked in bad ways even though he usually plays through the pain. He may not be able to play through it as often this season.
Cam Newton: I know he’s going to be your backup QB and you may have a guy who is pretty much impossible to drop for Cam, but if you can fit him in go for it. His upside is Vick like and that’s too good to pass on (like Revis). If he can do anything against Green bay’s defense next week he’s on his way to early fake football greatness.
Ben Tate: If he made it through week 1 without being picked up he’s worth a grab. Yes, Arian Foster may be back, but Tate proved he is the backup and a capable one (including in pass protection). So if Foster has any setbacks Tate will do his thang or thing.
Robert Meachem: At this point in time he is the Saints #1 receiver. He needs to be owned. The situation is open to interpretation and Adrian Arrington might get 15 targets in week 2, but Meachem is the safest Saints receiver to own going into week 2.
Lance Moore: I want him on my team for the season. I hope he heals up fast. If he was dropped due to his injury grab him and give him some time to heal. Cuddle him.
Devery Henderson: I like Lance Moore more, but if he can’t go in week 2 Devery Institute is very much worth owning.
Deion Branch: He’s worth a pickup if you are lacking in wide receiver depth, but there won’t be that many yards to go around every week. If Chad Ochocinco continues to suck Branch will be the guy, but Ocho will get his shot and trusting the Patriots receivers not named Welker or TE1/2 is a difficult task right now.
Fred Davis: The good thing about Davis is he stretches the field and that’s what you want out of your tight end so his yards per catch aren’t under 10. Grossman is in love with him and if you have Cooley on your team it just seems right to drop him for a guy named Fred.
Jermaine Gresham: He had a good game with 6 receptions for 58 yards and a TD. The best news was his 8 targets. He looks like Dalton’s go to guy over the middle. I am not ready to give up on Kendricks or Cook, but Gresham is a nice backup to grab in case those guys can’t turn it around.
Rex Grossman: There were 13 quarterbacks who threw over 300 yards in week 1 and Sexless Rexless was one of them. The Redskins are looking somewhat legit on offense and Grossman has no qualms with chucking it up there. He could be a decent matchup play early in the season and in 2QB leagues he’s a must add if he’s out there. The same goes for Chad Henne and Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Deji Karim: He was given plenty of looks with MJD on a touch count (I was on one of those with my first girlfriend). He has a goodly amount of upside and could even be used as a bye-week fill in in the right situation.
Brandon Gibson: With Danny Amendola out for at least a few weeks Gibson should continue to get targets and thankfully they won’t be facing the Eagles pass defense every week.
Evan Moore: Trying to decide between him and Ben Watson for this post was tough, but it looked like Moore was a favored target in the end zone and his upside just feels a little upsidier. There are too many good tight ends from week 1 and you know some of them are going to crud the bed in week 2 so don’t go waiver wire nuts on these guys just yet.
