Woooooo!  The Razzball Writer’s League.  I’m excited, but I’d be even more excited if Tehol’s team butt fumbles his way to a 3-11 record.  I mean who starts their gloating in the 2012 recap with a Lady Gaga quote?

Well through the deal of the dice, or shake of the cards, or something like that, I randomized my way into a first pick (see Draft Results here) and didn’t pull anything crazy and grabbed AP.  Sorry Sky’s rankings!  Although I do like Doug Martin 2.  But after that, it was a tough draft being the swing-around and pounding two beers between picks.  Just like Sky said in his Writer’s League Recap, this is probably my least favorite team I’ve fielded (12-team PPR, same format as RCL Leagues – speaking of start an RCL League today!):

It all started with the swing through 2/3-round picks, where I am still maintaining my abstinence of high-WR reaching and wanted to get a solid RB2.  And that meant I had to grab Frank Gore.  I’m not a Gore fan in the least, but it was either him or DeMarco Murray, David Wilson, or Lamar Miller who all went at the end of the third, so it was Gore or have even worse RB-depth in the 4/5 swing-through.  I’ve come to the conclusion that in 12-team or bigger leagues, I don’t want this first pick at all, it really limited my options.  I may have reached a bit on Aaron Rodgers given my thoughts on him in the QB Preview Podcast, but I figured I wouldn’t get my boyfriend Cam Newton in my 4/5 picks (which I wouldn’t have), and didn’t want to worry about QB down the road even though I like the mid-tier guys.  I don’t like I reached for Rashard Mendenhall either, but he has solid use as my flex, with the optimism this knee issue doesn’t prolong into the season.  It was a bit of a panic pick as I wanted either Daryl Richardson or Ryan Mathews both of which went the immediate two picks before my 4/5 selections.

Final note – love having the GB receivers in Jordy Nelson (love his value) and James Jones (who I think is ranked fine but fell in this draft) to front-line my offense with Rodgers.  I know it will give me a few boom or bust weeks, but with the league’s best passing offense, tough to not like that trio.  As I said in the open, don’t love this team, but it is wildly different than any of my other teams thus far, so it will be an exciting ride.  Feel free to slam it!
