Another yahoo draft in the books, another ‘D’ on the report card.  I swear, these Yahoo professors have it out for me!  I at first thought it was because I didn’t draft a DEF/K but no, they really just don’t like anything I do.  Perhaps I’m too contrarian?  I don’t know, I didn’t think I was being as such.  Though I did draw a big middle finger up in the corner of my draft sheet when I handed it in.  Maybe that’s what got me wrung up.  To be honestly honest, this is probably the least favorite of the teams I’ve fielded so far but that’s simply based on the lack of depth I have at RB.  Someone out there grabbed them like Lynch goes after Skittles.  But I digress, let’s take a looksee at Sky’s team for the Razzball Writers League for 2013 Fantasy Football…

So overall, I have little hate for this team except for the fact I just missed out on guys I wanted.  Chris Ivory replaced by Ahmad Bradshaw.  Rob Gronkowski would’ve been my pick in the 6th but I couldn’t let DeAngelo and his current lead back status looks for the Panthers.  In the end, I just evaluate certain players much higher then yahoo does, apparently.  Considering Amendola and Tavon are projected to be PPR machines, I’m hoping I made up for what could be 50 total receptions from my two lead backs.  On my bench, I picked up Helu with the thought of him being a good PPR threat as well as the third down back in Washington this season, though yahoo thought me a bit odd for that as well.  Of the three Pittsburgh backs, Dwyer was the first one drafted and it was by me.  I couldn’t justify taking Bell there and I’m not really a big Redman fan at this stage, what with How High 2 and all.  At this point, I’ll most likely be dropping Woods and James for a DEF/K combo unless something goes drastically wrong for either the Bills and 49ers and they make me look like a genius.  In all, I like my WR depth, love the chance I’m taking at TE with plenty of talent still to be had on waivers at that position and hope for the best at RB in terms of my current depth panning out and getting in on a stud at the position via waivers.  The joy of picking 10th is you’re that much closer to Lance Dunbar when DeMarco goes down…hrm, that doesn’t sound as awesome in type as when it did when I thought it.  Anywho!  This is my Razzball Writers League team.  Like, comment and subscribe or something.  Peace!

    Rb T Richardson
    Wr Bowe
    Wr A. Brown
    Wr James Jones
    Te J. Cameron
    Flex Vereen
    K Akers
    Def Pittsburgh

    Bench

@Craig: Your team looks reasonable but I’m not a big fan of your WR set. I see a lot of mid to low end WR2s and WRss at best but not someone who’ll standout. It’ll be something to monitor over the season. OUtside that, your team looks good. Just need one of those guys to become a superstar or to trade up.

@Sky: rankings alone, no matter how good, will allow somebody to have that roster. at least 2 of those guys went way lower than adp spots, if not more. if that’s t.richardson, having him and charles alone simply should not happen in a 10 team, much less a 12, also must’ve got graham at start of third (believable), looks like stafford or nelson or fitzy or maybe 2 of those also fell late.

  8. frankgrimes says:
    (link)

Those yahoo generated grades are such crap. They seem too based on last years points or something. SJax is going to disappoint you haha. I’m not sold on Tavon having big impact but I hate Bradford. Those snake drafts can get you out of your flow pretty easily when things arent falling your way. Auctions are fairer funnier and involve more strategy. Lets get a Razzball auction league started?

    • Jack Full of Hate says:
      (link)

@frankgrimes: so are you saying that the A- I got means my team will suck?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@frankgrimes: Ha, that would be nice to do auction. My only problem is the RCLs are for general public; not a lot of guys do auction. Just not as easy to organize a time/date around unless you’re big into it. Plus we do this to see how drafts affect winners at the end of the year so we need uniformity so we couldn’t go hybrid.

SJax is gonna rock the world, bro!

  9. Moose Out Front says:
    (link)

Say pick 26 comes around and you already have Doug Martin and MJD at RB… you take Gore there or Andre Johnson?

    12 teamer, 2 WR, 2 RB, 1 W/R flex. 1 QB.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Moose Out Front: In a vaccuum, I’ll take Gore but it always depends who’s really left out there. I’m a big Dola/Colston fan so I don’t mind them being low-end WR1 types for me.

  10. Moose Out Front says:
    (link)

I notice you have reached on DeAngelo Williams in both drafts you posted. Your rankings have him 92 overall (PPR), and his yahoo ADP is 105.6, yet you went for him in the 6th even over Gronk, who you were targeting there.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Moose Out Front: As I mentioned in the article, RBs were drying out fast. He was the next best RB available when it came my turn and no clearcut way for me to guess he’d still be there on the turn. Plus lets not forget J-Stew on the PUP. He’ll get lead back carries to start the year. That’s pretty valuable.

  11. CL says:
    (link)

    Here’s what a C- looks like… 10 team, PPR:

    Newton
    Colston
    Wallace
    Austin
    Charles
    SJax
    Cook
    Bradshaw

Bench: RG3, Gronk, Hartline, M. Ball, and L Bell (I’m going to try to claim Joique Bell and dump him though)

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@CL: I’ve come to realize despite finishing as a top 12-14 WR the last two years, Yahoo hates Colston. They don’t see him as a viable WR1 for some reason. Pairing him with ‘Dola I thought I’d get a bit more of a fair shake from them but alas…

Team looks reasonable. Austin = Miles or Tavon? They hate Tavon, too, apparently so there’s that. At least a C- is a passing grade! I gotta take the whole thing over again…

Just wanting a real grade on this team, as Yahoo gave me a C+ and I’m rather happy with it, especially picking from the 11th slot in a 12 team league. Anyway, it’s a 0.5 PPR and here’s the ole roster:

    QB – Wilson
    WR – Dez
    WR – Colston
    WR – Welker
    RB – Morris
    RB – Wilson
    TE – Cook
    W/R – Sproles
    K – Bailey
    DEF – Pitt
    BN – Tannehill
    BN – Buc Williams
    BN – Hartline
    BN – Woodhead
    BN – Reece

Yes, I do have two of my namesakes on the team in my cousin Russell and my cousin David.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Wilsonian: I like that team. Welker as a WR3? Colston as your 2? And you didn’t have to forfeit your RBs to do it. If Cook does what he should do, that’s a really nice team. I give you a ‘B’ for Bootyful.

      • Wilsonian says:
        (link)

@Sky: thanks. I’ll take that “B”! I was pretty happy with it. Obviously nothing is certain in football, but on paper I thought I had the overall best draft. Funny thing is, Kaepernick went in the 5th, and some teams had two QBs before I took Russell Wilson in the 7th. I couldn’t believe some people fell to me like they did. Especially when I targeted Wilson but filled in my starting WRs, RBs, and W/R before I took him.

@Sky: thank you, sir. Even more impressive was that half of the draft my internet was out and I had to use the new Yahoo app on my phone. Thank god they at least have that option now. But I could barely tell who was available.

In a keeper league, draft tonight. I am keeping DMartin and TRich. Have the 9th pick starting in the 3rd round. Assuming I should go WR then WR? Who do you think I could get there?

if Graham is available I may grab him…. thoughts on strategy?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Johnny Hammersticks: I’d target a WR if they’re of the top end variety. If not, Graham makes complete sense and then a WR.

2 qb 10 team .5 PPR league here’s my team

I chose to wait on qb’s to get great RB and WR’s but I feel I didn’t do as well as I should’ve with that strategy what do you guys think?

    QB – Luck
    QB – Vick
    RB – Adrian Peterson
    RB – Stevan Ridley
    WR- Dez Bryant
    WR – Antonio Brown
WR – Anquan Boldin (might start Tavon or Thompkins here not sure)
    TE – Antonio Gates
    W/R – Eddie Lacy
    Def – Arizona
    BEN – Tavon Austin
    BEN – Brandon Weeden
    BEN – DeAndre Hopkins
    BEN – Mark Ingram
    BEN – Daryl Richardson
    BEN – Kenbrell Thompkins

Other teams in my league really stocked up on QB’s I hope my teams good enough to overcome that…

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Dave: Yeah, not quite the RB depth I’d expect with waiting on QB. Not a bad lot, just would expect some bigger names is all; that said you have what looks to be 4 starters and a reasonable 5th in Ingram so it’s not like you did terrible.

I think you need one of your bench WRs to hit big. Brown and Boldin not guys I’m finding I want on my squad with where they’re going. Overall, though, I think you did well.

      • Dave says:
        (link)

@Sky: Haha thanks for judging it. I feel just as bad as before you judged it lol I should clarify I didn’t wait THAT long for Luck when I saw so many qb’s flying off the board I grabbed one.

And yes my WR’s seem weak I picked Antonio Brown thinking he could get like 80 catches as a #1 now but I guess you don’t like him as much. And I got those upside WR’s like Tavon or Kenbrell very late so at least I hardly took a risk on them.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Haha, I tried! I do like your QB set, though.

I’m not big on Brown; just feel like he is what he is at this point. If any of those bench WRs take off, you’re in a good place, though.

          • Dave says:
            (link)

@Sky: Haha I appreciate it though I’m optimistic about those young receivers being good so I’ll take that. And there’s always the waiver wire for me I always pick up as much as possible.

Deprived RB owner has Demaryius Thomas and is interested in a trade. I usually wont trade until season begins but what do you think sir? Our benches are somewhat small so I dont want to lose RB depth. On the other hand I could get another big time WR.

Me WR:Andre Johnson, Nelson, Vjax, Mike Floyd, Wheaton
ME RB: Charles, Mathews, Lacy and Lamar
His RB: AP, Mendenhall, Tate, Dwyer

With those WRs would you hold or take a shot at DT?

@Sky: I’m agreeing hold is the move. If my WR were worse Id prob be inclined. He is cooling off a little after his morning after auction sobering up shock. He hinted toward Charles now which is obviously crazy talk.

    TE-Cameron

    What do you think?

    • Sky

      Sky says:

I’m not a huge Nicks fan but if he performs up to expectations, you have a really nice team. Would probably like some different depth at RB but you have 3 starters and a goalline back with upside in Ingram. In all, I like this team, just depends what you get from Nicks/Randle.

It’s a reasonable team. Not as good as the one you listed above, though.

So Im stuck with DeMarco Murray as my RB2… Wondering if I should drop Hopkins and handcuff him with Joe Randle. What you you think? 12 team non PPR.

    QB Matt Ryan
    RB1 T Richardson
    RB2 DeMarco Murray
    WR1 Brandon Marshall
    WR2 Marques Colston
    TE Jason Whitten
    Flex DiAngelo Williams

    Bench:
    Chris Givens
    Bernard Pierce
    Knowshon Morino
    Bernard Pierce
    Josh Goron
    DeAndre Hopkins <

One, it looks like Dunbar is the handcuff there not Randle and two, definitely not. Hopkins got major upside.

@Sky: Thanks. Any other thoughts on areas I should look to improve?

Have my second league draft next week. Its a 12 team, .5 PPR, keeper league. This is my first time doing a half point PPR, as well as my first time involved in a keeper league (which is a first for this league as well and so starting from scratch). Any non-obvious recommendations on approaching a .5 PPR league and keeper league in general?? Thanks.

      Sky says:

@g: Wow, broad topic. In general, I don’t think I have a huge amount to give you. When presented with the young upstart vs the aged veteran at any particular pick, you’ll probably wanna lean towards the young guns. Upside wideouts, don’t hesitate to take them a little earlier then you would. I’m more inclined to draft backups at TE/QB in keepers then in normal ones if they look like guys I want long term. Hope that helps and good luck my man.

Kinda of a funny and sad thing happened to the baby’s mama today, she got two tickets to the pac 12 championship game, she works for Coke, it’s sad because it’s TBD, so there is about a 99% chance the game will be nowhere near Los Angeles

      • Jack Full O' Hate says:
        (link)

@Sky: 5 hours, i would go there, but I also think if it’s not in LA, that I should sell them online for some extra Christmas money. If UCLA makes it, how do I not find a way to go. This is so confusing, rambling nonsense….I need a V8

In a 12 team keeper league with a point given after a players 4th rec. I have the 1st pick and looking for advice on which way to go. Here are my possible keepers and rounds you are able to keep on player in rounds 1-4 and one player rounds 5-10.
    C. Johnson 2nd round
    S. Ridely 4th round
    V. Jackson 5th round
    P. Manning 6th round
    D. Amandola 10th
The following players are there at #1 Lynch, Calvin, S. Jackson, MJD, any QB.

Was thinking draft lynch(1)and keep CJ(2) and P. Manning(6) or
    draft Lynch(1) and keep Ridley(4) and P. Manning (6)
What do you think and should i be thinking keeping Amandola in the (10) Thanks

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@tyb12: You can only keep 2? Not clear on your keeper set up. In a vaccuum, I’d probably go CJ?K and Amendola for keepers and actually draft Megatron there.

    Team B: Forte/Brees/Wilson/Sproles/TY
    Team C: Forte/Dez/wilson/bowe/romo
    Team D: Forte Dez/wilson/ sproles/romo
    Team E: Forte/Dez/wilson/Stafford/TY

@jake:Is this a keeper your choosing go Forte. Also Id rather go into the draft with an open mind ready to adjust than say I’m taking wilson in the third etc etc. Bowe seems meh this year. Smith isn’t one to throw deep outside often. Love wilson tho! Good luck.

      • jake says:
        (link)

@frankgrimes: not a keeper league- I have the 12th pick in the draft so based on all the mock drafts i’ve done it seems as though those are my options….

        • frankgrimes says:
          (link)

@jake: I’d wait for QB as long as you can take it. If you like risk reward I’d try to grab Gronk maybe even with your fourth rounder since it be a long wait til pick five.

@mike: meh he slowing down and old and after he does catch the ball his feet have stopped moving. He averages on the low end yards after contact as well.

Thoughts on my team…12 team yahoo PPR:

    QB- Cam
    Wr- Demaryius
    Wr-Colston
    RB-Dougie Fresh
    RB-Daryl Richardson
    Flex: TY Hilton
    TE- Cameron
    dEF- St Louis
    k: Zeur whTever

    Bench:
    Givens
    Knowshon
    Josh Gordon
    Vereen
    Lacy

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@The G: A little worried at RB; probably how you got Cam. Just depends how much you believe in Lacy and if Denver goes with Moreno. Could be a great team or could be just a competitive team based on that. Overall, I like the talent you have, though. Just needs things to work out right.

  34. Eric says:

Just finished another 12 team Yahoo Scoring H2H League and I was wondering if I could get your thoughts? 6 point per Passing TD, -2 per interception

    QB: Russel Wilson
    WR: Jordy Nelson
    WR: Chris Givens
    RB: Adrian Peterson
    RB: Steven Jackson
    TE: Jermichael Finley
    W/R: Reggie Bush
    W/R: Giovani Bernard
    Bench: Michael Floyd
    Bench: Daryl Richardson
    Bench: Brian Hartline
    Bench: Fred Davis
    Bench: Roy Helu
    Bench: Mohamed Sanu

What do you think? I tried to make sure I got solid RBs in my flex again but I might have waited too long for WRs. I’m actually looking to make a trade for Brady (high TD, low Int, good value) and maybe a WR by giving up Wilson and one or two of my RBs. What do you think?

    • Eric says:

      @Eric:
      Oh, I missed Jonathan Dwyer

      • frankgrimes says:
        (link)

@Eric: you should have missed drafting him nah jk but I wouldn’t make that trade. WR pop off waivers all the time. Now say if you traded bench RB for a top 30 type WR then go for it. maybe like a josh Gordon?

        • Eric says:
          (link)

          @frankgrimes: @frankgrimes:
Actually the guy that has Gordon is hurting for rb so I made the Dwyer for Gordon trade, thanks!

What do you think of this trade offer

I send: Roethlisberger, D. Richardson, and Cruz

I receive: P. Manning and either Demariyus Thomas/Randall Cobb.

14 team auction. Took over for a previous owner and inherited a crap team that only had one keeper worthy player. (Cruz) Most talent was out of the pool on draft.

    Current team

    QB Roethlisberger
    RB J. Charles
    RB E. Lacy
    WR V. Cruz
    WR J. Jones
    TE J. Cameron
    Flex D. Richardson
    D/ST (play matchups)
    K. S. Hauschka

    Bench
    WR R. Broyles
    WR D. Hopkins
    QB B. Weeden
    TE M. Bennett
    RB C. Michael

      Sky says:

You don’t have the RB depth to make that a good move for this year. Only would take Charles to go down and you’re kinda hosed. Depends if you’re playing for next year or this year. I’d be inclined to say no unless you’re playing for next year.
