AlfredJF aka Boof has come back for another Razzball Fantasy Football Podcast with B_Don and Donkey Teeth to go over his recent Pre-Draft Top 10 Rookie RBs article. B_Don and Boof go through their usual film vs numbers discussion to give you both points of view on the eve of the NFL draft. We start at the top with Najee Harris, Javonte Williams, and Travis Etienne, then the guys diverge in their rankings from there. Come listen and find out how the rest of the top 10 breaks out for the guys.

DeVonta Smith – Alabama – 6’1″ 175 lbs. – 11/4/98 (22 years old)

Quite possibly the most divisive wide receiver in the 2021 class. Those of you who watch college football have already seen DeVonta Smith and may wonder how a Heisman Trophy winning wide receiver could be divisive. Well, in the dynasty football community, there are the numbers people and the film people, and never shall the 2 meet. No, that’s a lie, hopefully everyone is using a good mix of both, but everyone has their leanings. The numbers people will tell you that he’s too light for his height (BMI), and they don’t like his 3rd year breakout or that he returned for his senior season. Meanwhile, the film community (myself included) see so much football goodness on tape that we can’t understand the concerns.

Bryan Edwards – University of South Carolina – 6’3” 212 lbs. – November 13, 1998 (21 years old)

  • Tall receiver who plays bigger than his 212 weigh in.
  • Likely goes higher in the draft if he doesn’t break his foot while preparing for the combine.
  • Doesn’t waste time, gets off the line quickly.
  • Good breaks inside and out.
  • Seems comfortable with press coverage.
  • Uses hard jab step to throw off DBs at the line. Keeps them guessing throughout the game.
  • Does a good job of selling the route and timing his breaks.
  • Has the long speed to maintain separation.

The guys discuss the Brady and Gronk bromance getting back together. Bronk? Grady? Tob? Feels like there’s a shipper name here. Anyway, there are varying opinions on the impact that Gronk will make, and then, we talk about the adjustment to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin value.

Brady continues to show that old people can be good at social media.

After some Bronk talk, AL_FF_RED, double underscore, formerly known as Boof, walks us through his statistical approach to the rookies in the wide receiver class. B_Don and Donkey Teeth each take away a different point from those numbers to look into as they make their evaluations.

The guys then talk about some of the top 10-15 WRs from this year’s class including Justin Jefferson, Jalen Reagor, Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, Denzel Mims and Bryan Edwards. Boof provided the statistical approach while DT and B_Don take it from more of a film perspective. None of us agree on the order for even the top 5. Last, we look at a few 3rd day (maybe 2nd) receivers and try to figure out what they may be like at the next level. Get pumped! It’s draft day!

Clyde Edwards-Helaire – Louisiana State University – 5’7″ 207 lbs. – April 11, 1999 (21 years old)

  • Short area agility is the standout feature for Clyde Edwards-Helaire.
  • Ability to fake or jump laterally helps him avoid tacklers and in route running.
  • Neither acceleration nor top speed is overly impressive, but can use his tools to set guys up and make them miss.
  • Uses blocks downfield and sees the cut back lanes open up.
  • Times where he will put his head down when running the interior and run into the back of his lineman.
