Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

In our third Razzball Football Podcast, host Nick Capozzi interviews Sean Salisbury, former NFL QB and ESPN Analyst.  With QBs drafted higher in fantasy drafts than ever before, Sean weighs in on the quarterback position these days and how it’s changed since his time at USC and in the pros.  Sean also analyzes the rookie QBs with starting gigs in week 1, including praise for Seahawks starter Russell Wilson.

Nick also nabs Rudy from the baseball podcast to talk fantasy football and all the tools Razzball offers to Razzball Nation.

Weekly analysis and breakdowns begin next week with JB returning from his stint of big fantasy drafts to preview week 1.

Don’t forget you can tweet us questions, comments, or general insults @jbgilpin (me) or @nickcapozzi (not me) and we’ll get to your thoughts on the ‘cast.

Somebody dropped Kenny Britt…I have to spend my waiver spot (8 of 14) if he gets to me right?

I think it would be great if you guys can put features like…

    1) Defense Streaming (preferably a week ahead, maybe with comparisons on which commonly used defenses that you would play them over)

    2) Weekly WR busts/explosions (Favorable/Horrible Defensive Matchups [aka anyone on revis island, and other cornerbacks, etc. again with commonly used WR as comparisons) More important than recommending RB because WR, more often than not, seem to be feast or famine especially in the mid to lower tiers. Or maybe if specific WRs are difficult in some situations, throw out 2 and put up their combine stats (Example: Robert Meachem/Malcolm Floyd have a shot at combining for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns, I favor Meachem because “Random Defense” is 2nd in the league for allowing hail mary TDs)

    3) I’m pretty sure you have a Buy Low/Sell High kind of section but again maybe add which players you would or wouldn’t mind trading straight up to get a better idea of what you think that player is worth. For example, last year “Pick up/trade for Cam Newton, he’s gonna be great after week 1.” is different from “Cam Newton is gonna be great, I wouldn’t hesitate to drop Matt Schaub or maybe even Big Ben if I had to” gives a different feel on what exactly you think he’s worth. I think you guys might already do this to a degree, I don’t exactly remember haha but Doc is gone so I thought I would (re)emphasize

    4) I think you guys already did this before but a little after mid season when things settle a bit, maybe shoot out an article on “Playoff Gold” for teams that start off hot so they can focus on taking advantage of Bye Weeks to trade and improve their teams strictly for the playoffs, maybe include DEF, etc.

Anyhow, I really enjoy your guys’ articles and your draft analysis, etc. Thanks!

Oh yeah Nick, I don’t know if anyone has told you this before but putting it politely, you have an announcer voice/tone. Putting it frankly, it might even pass as a top 3 phone sex voice. I’m not exactly quite sure how that’s even rated but I just thought I would give you a high rank, you’re like Drew Brees with upside.

Was that too inappropriate? Or just inappropriate enough?

I had a horrible draft (IMO) in a 16-team h2h where we can only have a max of 2 QB/3 RB. I waited to draft a qb and rb due to prices going for $80+ for the top tier guys ($200 cap). I ended up with Turner/M. Bush/P. Hillis and Rivers as my QB. M. Austin/Tor. Smith/and J. Graham as my WR/TE. Am I screwed, or will I have a shot at some Wins? Blackmon/K. Wright as WR sleepers on the bench.

@Mr. Rodgers Neighborhood, You definitely aren’t screwed… I would have definitely gone for a RB with more upside, but Hillis certainly has a lot if Charles isn’t able to hold up with his ACL repaired knee. Love you WR/TE core especially for a 16 teamer. You should win there most weeks. I think you’ll be in the middle of the pack with a shot if Hillis has a good year and/or you beat your leaguemates to a RB on the wire who emerges and has a big 2nd half.

@Jonathan Gilpin, Thanks for the positive words! I was chasing kids with bath/bedtime while trying to draft – was a bit stressful. I will definitely watch the wire and dump M. Bush if he doesn’t get the carries.

    Rudy!!! You da man!

@Sky, Who is your pick for overall production with denvers wideouts? Decker or thomas?

Also, whats your thoughts on pierre garcon? What round you think is a solid spot to get him?? I think he has a nice year with RG3, but i dont want to reach.

Thanks! Doin 1st draft of the season tonight, need sum later round WRs!

How about cedric benson? I’ve heard all good news but im having a hard time imagining a RB from GB being productive. Is he even close to a RB2 in your opinion? Where would you draft him and be able to sleep well that night?

    Thanks again!!

    • Sky

      Sky says:

Not an RB2 in my mind. RB3/Flex and I’d much rather have a Peyton Hillis/Michael Bush for that role on my team. He’ll go higher than I’m willing to draft him, though, so he won’t make my team. Sorry I didn’t get this one, this is JB’s post.

@Sky, I agree, Benson is shooting up draft boards, a little too fast for my taste. Reminds me of Tim Hightower’s ascension on draft boards last year. @Prezii – you can ask me too ya know!
