The Razzball Podcast is back, with the final preview show a full-on smorgasbord of last-minute, up-to-date news and the explanation as to why losing NFL franchises’ fan bases are more obese.  It must be because of all the [Vladamir] poutines!  Then JayWrong decides to start the news with Tim Tebow and Nick bashes the CFL!  Talk about a crazy pod.  Don’t forget we have some spots left in a few more RCL Leagues rounding out our biggest RCL Football season yet.  In the regular season (so starting next show!) I’ll be giving the weekly top scoring team a shout out (top scoring through Sunday’s games since we record Mondays) on air before breaking down the week’s RCL action on Tuesday afternoons.  Only T-minus (AKA Sky’s average Yahoo draft grade) one day until Thursday Night Football kickoff!

Hello, entertaining podcast as usual. Please share your thoughts and assessments on my team. 12-team .5ppr, 2RB, 3WR, 1 flex. 2nd overall pick. NO PLAYOFFS, 15 week season

    1 – Doug Martin
    2. Demaryius Thomas
    3, Stevan Ridley
Had the option of taking S-Jax rd 2, but thought the Thomas/Ridley tandem > Sjax/Fitzgerald
    4. Antonio Brown – Welker, T.Smith, Decker still on the board. wanted to diversify from DEN
    5. Peyton Manning – wanted to wait more on QBs but felt he was good value and 20+picks till my next turn. Passed up on Gio Bernard and Ahmad Bradshaw.
    6. Mike Wallace – Bradshaw taken the pick before me.
    7. Le’Veon Bell – wanted a high upside flex and RB depth. boom or bust pick. Vereen still on the board.
    8. Russell Wilson – thought it was good value and wanted to spitefully block the teams that were too cute in waiting too long to draft a QB. Makes me kind of regret not taking Gio Bernard in Rd 5. But could ultimately trade one of the QBs to the weak teams after they lose a few games early. Rodgers went 13th overall, brees in the 3rd rd, and the rest fell. ryan/luck went 8th rd too.
    9. DeAndre Hopkins – high risk/reward. felt that his inj deflated his pre-draft value. looking like my FLEX pick too, a little scary.
    10. Fred Jackson – my draft is deteriorating. CJ Spiller is fragile
    11. Alshon Jefferey
    12. Isaiah Pead
    13. Markus Wheaton
    14. Brandon Pettigrew – waited a little too long. Barely missed out on Cook, F.Davis
    15. TB Def – week 1 matchup play vs Jets
    16. Phil Dawson
    17. Knile Davis

I need to shore up the flex position and am hoping L.Bell can do that. Thank you for your insight and analysis.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@timmy riggins: Interesting – no playoffs… Yeah I don’t know about two QBS, but you can always trade one when it comes that time. Surprised Wilson went that late, interesting idea to block him. A lot will ride on what Bell will do when he can get healthy, and I think you reached for Brown a little early, but Martin and the Broncos will keep very competitive.

      • timmy riggins says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: agreed. peyton manning falling to me was both a blessing a curse. hopefully, bell will be strong. Who would you choose as the replacement flex play until then? some waiver options for flex: Gresham, Ertz, McCluster, D.Bess, Avant, Hankerson, Fleener, Chandler, R.Cooper, S.Moss, N.Washington, S.Holmes, Jacoby Jones, R.Streater, Kerley, L.Stephens-Howling. Thanks again

Great show, nice to have the season back!

Ok, a lil help for this week please:

0.5 ppr league, who do you start This Week:
    Lacy at 49ers
    Tate at San Diego
    Redman vs. Tennessee
    or Ball vs. Ravens

Leaning towards starting Lacy cuz I know he’ll get carries, but worried about that 9ers Defense holding him to something like 2.8 ypc….

p.s. I hope that’s the only time we hear about Tebow this season on Razzball!! lol

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Zak: Hahaha on Tebow – that was hilarious… I’d go Lacy. I know the 49ers defense is scary, but his workload is the one I trust most there.

      • Zak says:
        (link)

Thanks for the input, I was planning to start Lacy because of guaranteed carries but wanted to get a 2nd opinion.

The only other move I could do this week would to play one of those guys (redman, tate, ball or lance moore) at my Flex instead of my DeSean Jackson (@ Washington).

I plan to start D.Jax but if I was confident that one of those RBs, like Redman or Tate, really would get a significant number of carries, I’d consider it….

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:

@Zak: Yea Id keep Djax in there.

@timmy riggins: Tough to say on all those guys, McCluster and Cooper I think have some of the best upside.

Drop K. Wright, Tolbert, or Hartline to pick up Patton?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

    • JB Gilpin

How bad is my team? I really hated my draft. Zigged when I should have zagged. Thanks.

12 team, standard scoring, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 Flex

    QB – Romo
    RB – Charles
    RB – Gore
    RB/WR – Chris Ivory
    WR – V Jax
    WR – Colston
    WR – Vincent Brown
    TE – Antonio Gates

    BE – Bilal Powell
    BE – Malcom Floyd
    BE – Owen Daniels
    BE – Heyward-Bey
    BE – Felix Jones

    IR – Leveon Bell
    IR – Andre Brown

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Iceman: Yea I’m not a huge fan, I like Charles but don’t really like your WRs. Colston is fine as a 2, just think VJax is a 2 as well. A lot will ride on if Ivory can play like a starting RB through the season and more and more is making that like pessimistic. Still think you’ll be competitive though!

iIn a league with a real shallow bench (only four RBs) Would you trade Mathews or Lacy for D Thomas? My current WRs are Andre Nelson VJax Mike Floyd. Other RBs are Charles and Miller. I’m on fence with this one.

@Jack Full O’ Hate: Ummm, or move the draft date back a few days, if possible. I tweeted that league out, hope it fills up late

      • Jack Full of Hate says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Yeah, but the broncos play on Thursday, would it be bad to have a draft on Saturday?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Jack Full of Hate: I don’t think it’d be that bad, sure someone might draft some random guy that gets a TD, but I think it’d be fine.

          • Jack Full of Hate says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: cool, I’ll change it

  14. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

Wondering if my roster construction makes a flier on Harvin now, rather than waiting until closer to his return, justifiable. Someone in my league is going to pick him up eventually, because several owners have known crushes on him.

It’s a 12-team 0.5 PPR, we start 2 WR and a flex and have 6 bench spots. I have solid RB depth and will almost certainly always start one of them at flex. So I’m likely not starting more than 2 WR in any week, even with byes. My WR are Megatron, A. Brown, Gordon, Randle and Hopkins. Notable FA include Patterson, Roberts, Streater and the like.

My team is a strong bet for the playoffs, barring catastrophic injury, and I have a marshal stiffy over the possibility of trotting out Megatron and Harvin come week 14. Think I can/should tolerate the dead roster spot? If so, is Hopkins or Randle the cut?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: I’d probably let someone else grab him. Sure right now Megatron and Harvin sounds great, but someone of your others could hit, still 12 weeks of FA to get guys to emerge, I don’t think Harvin will be a playoff team starter when he’s back.

  16. bryan says:

I was thinking about going after TY Hilton and giving Vareen.

    Thanks!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@bryan: I like Jones the best out of those right now.

      • bryan says:

Nor worried about all the GB options on offense?

      • bryan says:

Not worried about all the GB options on offense?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@bryan: Not really, Cobb and Nelson always have the injury risks, not buying Finley taking a big step forward, inconsistent RBs, TD regression? Sure. But still like him the best, although Shorts and Hilton do have better upsides

  17. booya says:
    (link)

Would you rather have d wilson, nicks, and torrey or gore and roddy in a ppr league?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@booya: Kinda depends on league size, 10 Gore side, 12 prob still Gore side, bigger the other side for depth.

      • booya says:
        (link)

        @JB Gilpin:
Do you prefer gore and roddy over lynch and britt?

  18. Willy says:
    (link)

Hey JB… I’d like to start by thanking you for encouraging me a couple weeks back to trade Matt Harvey for Segura in my keeper league… Looks like a good chance Harvey won’t be pitching next season!! Dodged that bullet and basically got a free Segura! Ha!

Anyway, I had my football draft last night… It’s a 10 team H2H league and looking for your thoughts on how I did and what changes I should be making. I drafted 7th… Here it is:

    1. (7) Jamaal Charles
    (KC – RB)
    2. (14) Trent Richardson
    (Cle – RB)
    3. (27) Andre Johnson
    (Hou – WR)
    4. (34) Victor Cruz
    (NYG – WR)
    5. (47) Jordy Nelson
    (GB – WR)
    6. (54) Russell Wilson
    (Sea – QB)
    7. (67) Tony Romo
    (Dal – QB)
    8. (74) Lamar Miller
    (Mia – RB)
    9. (87) Antonio Gates
    (SD – TE)
    10. (94) Stephen Gostkowski
    (NE – K)
    11. (107) St. Louis
    (StL – DEF)
    12. (114) Greg Jennings
    (Min – WR)
    13. (127) Shane Vereen
    (NE – RB)
    14. (134) David Akers
    (Det – K)
    15. (147) Jermaine Gresham
    (Cin – TE)
    16. (154) Joique Bell
    (Det – RB)

I know where I made some mistakes and that was drafting Romo… It’s a 1 QB league and I didn’t have my head in the game. I believe I was on my third Tall Boy by that time… Also 12th pick and beyond are bench positions. I drafted Gresham as a backup TE in the 15th round, but have since dropped him and picked up Eifert, as I think he will end up with that TE job and learned he’s been having a great pre-season so far. Oh, and I was surprised by a Yahoo report card being emailed to me. They indicated that week 10 may be troublesome with my top two RB on a bye week. Should I be concerned? I look forward to your comments as always! Cheers!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Willy: Nice! Yea sucks for Harvey but a great move. Haha gotta watch those tall boys! Yeah I woulda skipped on Romo. I am never concerned with bye weeks. I also think back to a team I had in a deep 2 QB 4 WR league where I had so many people on bye I actually had to start an empty spot, and despite all that I still won. So I don’t worry about bye weeks and so much can change until then. I don’t think you really need Eifert yet unless he goes off this week, but don’t mind holding him either really with Gates having limited upside. You’ll be competitive this year!

  19. Mike says:
    (link)

Just had draft and the following WR were NOT drafted
    Randle,Blackman,Hopkins,Wheaton,
Who would u pick up this week for ROS?
I can drop a backup TE
    Thanks!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Mike: Randle this week, Blackmon ROS with the upside factor

  20. Ron says:
    (link)

My league is 12-team .5PPR. I have trade questions that kinda hinge on oneanother so I will try not to make this too confusing. If you can answer each that would be great.

    1) I was offered RGIII for Garcon straght-up. Based on the team I have and positions we play, should I take this deal?
    2) Should I trade one of my bench RB’s for Steve Smith? If so, in what order would you trade them?
    3) Would the answer to #1 change if I did trade one of my bench RB’s for Steve Smith?

    QB: Eli Manning
    RB: Forte
    WR: Dez Bryant
    WR: AJ Green
    RB/WR: S. Jax
    WR/TE: Garcon
    DST: Ravens
    K: Prater
    BN: G. Bernard
    BN: R. Mathews
    BN: D. Richardson
    BN: S. Vereen
    BN: M. Austin
    BN: J. Gordon
    BN: B. Hartline
    BN: J. Alshon

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Ron: I am not a big Eli fan, I’d do #1 even though you might have to play a scrub until Gordon is back. Or follow with a trade of a RB for a WR. Leads into 2, yea I’d trade Vereen or Bernard, might hold off on the other two. 3 – Would just make me feel better about it, I might do #1 either way

  21. Grant says:
