The Razzball Football Podcast is back!  With a full tamale of fantasy goodness pairing Nick with Razzball vet JayWrong, the pair rip through Sky’s 2013 Rankings, starting at the top and Sky’s on-the-limb rank of Doug Martin at numero uno.  Poor Sky and his ranks getting picked on at 5:00 AM his time!  Long live the East Coast bias!  Nick and JayWrong shoot through the rest of the RBs going in the first round all the way into deep sleepers, where I even think I heard Danny Woodhead’s name at one point…?  You call that a deep podcast?  That’s a deep podcast!  It probably helps that JayWrong is a big Chargers fan, if you couldn’t figure that out based on the title… Don’t forget to start up your RCL League where once we get into the regular season I’ll be giving the weekly top scoring team a shout out, or hop into the last few spots in JayWrong’s 2nd RCL league that still has a few spots open.

I can’t believe how much I agree with Nick and JayWrong (right?). High on Spiller, McCoy, Bush (in PPR). Low on SJax, Ivory, Bradshaw. And I’m not sure that I’d call Woodhead a deep name in PPR. He should catch 50+ passes in San Diego.

Wait a minute – Spiller, Bush, Woodhead? Those names sound eerily familiar. Watch out, JB. I’m coming for you!

@jaywrong: Chin up, man. I’ve seen every Pats game over the past three years, and Woodhead is constantly underrated. Good hands and very quick and elusive. Great in space. Perfect third down back. Just isn’t a feature back due to size and lack of home-run ability. An upgrade over Ronnie Brown in that role.

Great job on the podcast. Looking forward to the season.

@JB Gilpin: Really. Terrible O-line + lack of receiving talent + lack of QB’s arm strength + Matthews pulled on third downs + the likelihood of SD playing catch-up most of the time = tons of quick dump-off passes.

@Big Magoo: I dunno about catch up most of the time vs. KC and Oak and some others, and I think Mathews plays a lot of 3rd downs, Woodhead just isn’t very good, only reason he flourished was bc in NE

@JB Gilpin: See my comments about Woodhead to JayWrong above. I’ve seen most of his games in NE. Solid third down/no huddle offense guy.

Mathews looked terrible last year. He has nowhere to go but up this year, but he looked flustered with his poor blocking last year. Couldn’t create anything on his own. Was pulled in most third down situations, and rightfully so. Woodhead should be the change-of-pace guy in SD.

KC should be much improved. Oakland is terrible, but most of those rivalry games are close contests. Should be plenty of opportunities on passing downs.

@Nick the Podcast Host: Like JayWrong said in the podcast, more broken collarbones (2) than TDs last year (1). And it wasn’t a fluke. Mathews did look that bad. Hardly broke any tackles at all to create anything on his own. Looks like more of the same this year, blocking-wise. SD might have the worst O-line in football.

I agree with a bunch of your other picks though. Great podcast, Nick!

@Big Magoo: I still think 50 catches is a lot and Mathews is still a good receiver himself… Feel free to come at me when he’s racking up 8 catches a game early on!

@JB Gilpin: 50 catches is basically 3 per game over a full season. Woodhead had 40 last year splitting time with Ridley and Vereen (and sometimes even Bolden). He only has to split with one other back now. Not a stretch in my book.

I’m a FBB guy but I did my first FFB draft in 10 years last night in a first year league. I have no idea what I’m doing. How’ did I do (pick #2, 12 team, non-PPR):

    QB: Sam Bradford (long story)
    RB: Doug Martin
    RB: Reggie Bush
    WR:Brandon Marshall
    WR:Hakeen Nicks
    TE: Antonio Gates
    Flex: Darren McFadden
    BN: DeSean Jackson
    BN: Bernard Pierce
    BN: Ronnie Hillman
    BN: Rasheed Mendenhall
    BN: Aaron Dobson
    BN: Michael Bush
    K: Gostkowski
    Def: Giants

@L-Boogie: Team looks like it would be better in a PPR over standard league. Lots of injury risk with Nicks, McFadden, Bush, and Gates. Health will determine how well this team does. You have a lot of upside RBs on the bench. Bradford is a weak starting QB though. What QBs are on the wire?

    • Nick The Podcast Host

@L-Boogie: I actually like this team a ton, not crazy about Muscle Hamster as your lead back but your depth at RB is impressive. I’d rather have a better QB than Bradford but I think he breaks out. DeSean is in for a big year so maybe package Nicks and Hillman for a Romo/Vick/Palmer type.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@L-Boogie: Agree with the above, I think you shop whichever one of your bench RBs breaks out early for a better QB if possible. Love the depth, think you need to be busy in the trade market with that kind of depth.

@Big Magoo: @Nick the Podcast Host: @JB Gilpin: @Big Magoo: @Nick the Podcast Host: @JB Gilpin: Thanks fellas. Yeah, my QB situation isn’t ideal but it was a crazy draft. Other owners were taking BACKUP QBs in round 7 (Matt Ryan’s owner took Romo). At the #2 spot it was tough watching all the QBs going off the board and waiting 20+ picks to see what garbage fell to me. I refused to reach so I was left with Bradford. I guess all the QBs going off the board is how I wound up with good depth.

Other QBs available include: Dalton (almost grabbed him), Smith, Rivers, Freeman, Tannehill, Weeden, Manuel, then 50 feet of crap, and then there’s Sanchez. So yeah, I went upside over boring. Oh well. As long as Miggy keeps hitting, I’m good.

    Hey fellas,

I’m in a bit of quandary and was hoping you all could help me. In my 12 Team Non-PPR, I’m looking to pick up Daniel Thomas (timeshare in MIA?) and a Defense (didn’t draft one) but I don’t know who to drop.

    Here’s my team
QB- Romo WR- Marshall, DJAX, M. Austin
RB- Martin, MJD FLEX- D. Wilson
    TE- J. Cook K- Akers D- ?

Bench- M. Williams, Vereen, Vick, Moreno, J. Blackmon, C. Michael, J. Dwyer, A. Dobson

Who gets the boot? Thanks in advance!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@B.J.: Michael or Dobson for me. The more I’m hearing out of NE is Dobson isn’t going to get as much love as the draft pick would suggest.

    • @B.J.: What a draft… Drop Dobson… I’d be holding Michael considering the depth you have.

Q- do you tend to implement a more PPR or Standard League strategy when drafting?

    – Also, I have the 12th pick, whats your suggestion in terms of position I should taregt? (RB/RB, RB/WR, RB, QB)?

    Keep up the good work

@jake: Id draft more PPR. I’d probably go RB RB but sorta depends on who’s there, I like all the backs in that range
