Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

Well, he ain’t from down in Louisiana close to New Orleans.  Then again, he might be.  Didn’t read the bio.  This is fantasy, not A Football Life.  We don’t care if Jacoby Jones is from near Lake Titicaca, we just care that he has an awesome Sunday for us.  Or Monday.  Or sometimes Thursday.  Anyone think we’ll eventually just have football on 7 days a week?  I think they’ve expanded college football to pretty much every day but Tuesday and Wednesday at this point.  Not that I’m complaining, of course, just wanted to know I’m not the only one seeing this trend.  Speaking of trends, sometimes they’re your friend.  Well, not the kind you can borrow money from or go to the bar with but a friend nonetheless.  The trend I speak of is the Detroit Lions secondary and how it just loves to give up points to secondary receivers for teams.  Let’s ignore Green Bay’s passing debacle and look back at a few secondary receivers who’ve benefited from facing the Lions in the last few weeks.  Week 12 saw Tiquan Underwood drop a 3/108/2 line on them.  Week 11 saw a healthy line of 3/48/1 from Cotchery.  Week 9 saw a 2/64/1 line from Terrance Williams of the Cowboys.  Ok, with all this good can we stamp him as a must play for week 15?  Nah, of course not.  But your team needs force you into strange positions sometimes.  Hopefully not the lotus blossom…fantasy football isn’t THAT kind of fantasy.  But if you need a nice gamble at flex or WR3 for week 15, Jones could be the Jacoby of all trades for you.  Hrm, or free agent pickups I guess.  But that doesn’t flow off the wordpress tongue quite as well.  But enough about tongues, strange positions and Underwood, let’s move along and see who else is a good pick up for week 15 of 2013 Fantasy Football…

Mark Ingram – Hey, it’s not my team, it’s your team that needs the help.  Don’t be giving me dirty looks.  For as maligned as Ingram has been, he’s also played decently in the past few weeks with his reps.  And with that, enter week 15.  You remember when he rushed for 145 yards on 14 carries against the Cowboys?  Ok, well that’s probably not gonna happen.  But it depends how good you think New Orleans is by comparison to the Rams as STL can be run on.  This is an expectation of gameflow move and not one I’d really push for but again, you know your team better than I know it.  Maybe 40 yards and a TD?  I’d put it in the realm of possible.  Feel free to pick him up and dream sweet Ingram dreams…

Antone Smith – Another RB suggestion.  We will want to see more touches from him in week 14 before we think of starting him but he now has 2 30+ yard runs for touchdowns in the last three weeks.  If he wiggles himself into any sort of timeshare with SJax down the stretch, he could be ‘that kid no one drafted who leads people to a championship’.  Oh and the ‘skins have given up plenty of fantasy points to opposing running backs to date.  So grab your rosary, pick up Antone and pray.

Zach Ertz – Man, I really wish he hadn’t scored 2 TDs this weekend.  No wait, that helped me in 2 leagues so let me rephrase: I wish for your sake he hadn’t.  He’s probably gonna end up on a lot of rosters this week because of it.  But then he’s gonna face the Lions in week 14, most likely drop and egg and hit waivers again for week 15.  I guess what I’m trying to say is I wouldn’t spend a waiver to play a guy week 14 against a Lions defense that doesn’t give up much to opposing TEs but I WOULD pick him up when no one is looking for week 15 if I have TE needs when he faces the porous Vikings secondary.

Willis McGahee – McGreyhee hasn’t looked great this season, that’s for sure.  But he did just find himself a spot back at the Browns RB table this previous weekend with a 14/57/1 performance.  You can’t ever tell if that Browns’ backfield will ever be owned by one player but for now, week 15 is against the Bears or as I like to call them ‘the team that gives up the 4th most fantasy points to opposing RBs’.  Something tells me that jersey wouldn’t sell well.  Either way, consider this a soft buy for Chris Ogbannaya at this point and an extremely tepid buy call on Fozzy Whittaker for deep leaguers in the off-chance Willis gets hurt in week 14.

I could see it for McGahee. I want to know Ridley isn’t playing before I get interested in Blount but he is the back to own of the crew besides Vereen.

  5. Cram It says:
    (link)

I know Blount doesn’t instill much confidence this week, but with Ellington as my only true Flex W/R, if he can’t go, which it looks like he won’t, I have on my bench to choose from: Antwone Smith, Pierce, Whitaker and Greene. Otherwise I’m scouring FA for a 4th WR or 2nd TE. Jacoby Jones is the only somewhat consistent WR available. .Would you at least pick up Blount for now?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Cram It: I’d go Blount there for now. If Ridley’s back, all hell breaks loose for you. I might consider Pierce at that point.

      • Cram It says:
        (link)

@Sky: For sure I’d rethink starting Blount. Reading that Ridley’s as good as dead to Belichik, in which case, I’d be happy to play for a Blount goal line TD instead of risking another Justin Hunter-type .9 day.

I really thought my team would finally be healthy after limping into the playoffs. Can’t get right!

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

I’d just hope Blount gets enough carries for about 80 yards. He is so bad at the GL it’s not even funny. His TD last week he was running with his shoulder down from the 6. Didn’t even see where he was going and just kinda fell in because the HOU defense didn’t know what to do with such a poor run.

At least you’re here, though. Now you’ve got that ‘Any Given Sunday’ thing going for ya.

          • Cram It says:
            (link)

@Sky: Haven’t seen him run much, but I know he likes to hit the truck-stick, so I figure he can bang it in from 5 yards out, vision or not.

              Sky says:
              (link)

For sure. Definitely a valid pick up but he will need a TD to be productive. Just a dicey play overall but then again, considering the alternatives you’re taking a good gamble.

  6. jamie says:
    (link)

I think Todman’s a good pick up, Costs nothing if MJD doesn’t get hurt or he doesn’t get more carries in most leagues u can cut him after the game for someone else. Todman looks better with the carries he’s getting and MJD is gone after this year.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@jamie: But we could say this about a lot of back up running backs. That doesn’t mean you should pick him up and play him for week 15. Not the point of the article talking about stashing backup RBs.

      • jamie says:
        (link)

Hmm well Antone smith is in the article and even if best case Sjax gets hurt and Antone grabs 10 Carries in this game, would you still feel comfortable starting him with Rodgers and Snelling still there next week? If MJD gets hurt or Todman grabs 12- 15 carries in this game against Hou he becomes interesting and again todman is no risk if you have the roster space, you can drop him friday for Antone if you’d like.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Fair but he also has 2 major TD runs and they’re already finding ways to get him on the field more. My statement comes with timeshare thoughts not ‘what if SJax gets hurt’. Again, that kind of stance can be said about any backup RB. I’m angling at matchups too. I can’t recommend Todman going against a Bills team that doesn’t give up much against opposing RBs. I get where you’re coming from but the why of the article doesn’t match your statement.

    Alshon Jeffery vs DAL
    Dez Bryant @ CHI
    Antonio Brown vs MIA
    Jimmy Graham vs CAR

10 team PPR if that helps the decision at all. I’m leaning sitting Brown because of the match up but having 2nd thoughts because of his success versus Hayden.

Garcon has a safe floor in PPR. Standard I’d go Gordon/Stacy. Non I’d go the two WRs.

Walker if he’s healthy. I’m not feeling confident in Reed at this point so I’d gamble with Ladarius if Walker isn’t a go.

  11. Thinking forward for the 2nd round of the playoffs (1st rd bye), are there any moves you would recommend using the available free-agent list at the bottom?

    WR: Josh Gordon
    WR: Pierre Garcon

    • Sky

      Sky says:

Matchups matter and I have only slightly looked over week 15 for a few guys to pick up for coverage in this article. McGahee for KC? You have 3 defenses. Two should be plenty. Still in looking at your roster you’d have a hard time starting him over the two RBs you already have.

  12. the imp says:
    (link)

Appreciate the thinking forward…For a team with a bye I’m pretty weak at WR after Gordon. Versus your Jones suggestion, what do you think of these alternatives for PPR in week 15?

    A. Hartline at home (so good weather) against a middle of the road Pats DEF. Talib would probably take Wallace, though that didn’t lead to much in their first game back in week 8.
    B. Amendola in good weather on the other side of that matchup against a decently tough MIA defense.
    C. Greg Jennings at home (so dome) against Philly with some potential chemistry with Cassel (3 TDs, 200 yards, 15 receptions in 2.5 games with Cassel…I know small sample with a flimsy TD against PIT as part of it)

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Still rather have Jacoby there for upside. Hartline has the highest floor out of those 3. Not sure I trust that Cassel/Jennings stat. ‘dola against a pass defense that is pretty difficult doesn’t sound like much of a good matchup play.

      • the imp says:
        (link)

@Sky: True that Amendola is not a good matchup, I included for context since his is a possible drop to make a move.
Would you rather drop Amendola or Streater (Streater vKC, @SD wk 15 and 16)? I guess they are both pretty weak ROS since Amendola is 4th on his team’s totem pole with a scabby playoff schedule and Streater might get reduced by DMoore/Holmes.

It’s a three week stretch so upside doesn’t really help as much as performance today. Aside from your core starters and maybe on strong backup at each position in case of injury, are you then better off carrying high upside handcuffs on your bench? Knile Davis and Christine Michele types for the off lotto ticket chance that the stud goes down? Rather than a McGahee or Jstew as your 4 and 5 rb when you start 2 rbs most weeks. Just trying to understand how to think about it.

      Sky says:

Depends on your lineup. You have three aces in the hole at RB you’re never sitting, go for upside. If your situation has you juggling matchups week to week, go for the players who help the most.

      • Zandy says:
        (link)

@Sky: gotcha – my three aces – Stacy Rainey Mathews (using aces real loosely) makes me think that I should be juggling more so than going for upside. Thanks -as always!

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Yeah you should go for upside

@Sky: so sky and cram based on your commentary,
If i own: Stacy Rainey Mathews
Out of the following: Cunningham pierce McGahee jstew ogre shonn bolden Helu todman Starks Knile Christine mbush
I should fill my 3 open slots with Cunningham Shonn and ? Knile?

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

I thought we were discussing upside? I’m not a handcuff guy, go for broke if you’re going for upside, not just handcuffing your guys. Knile/Christine and maybe Cunningham I guess but might as well pick up McGahee.

              • Zandy says:
                (link)

@Sky: sorry i just figured cunningham was upside and a handcuff but his schedule is mehh and hisbtalent is questionable… You like the upside of Knile or Christine over shonn? thanks just want to confirm

                • Sky

                  Sky says:
                  (link)

If we’re talking about upside, we’re talking about young guys who’ve flashed talent who aren’t getting any PT for one reason or another. That fits Knile and Christine. I don’t think that fits Shonn. He’s a quality NFL RB but I wouldn’t call him upside.

                  • Zandy says:
                    (link)

@Sky: just thinking if CJ goes down, Shonn is def getting a ton of carries down the stretch…. And I think CJ is more fragile than Marshawn or JC

    • Cram It says:
      (link)

@Zandy: Yeah if you’re only starting 2 RB’s and they’re top tier guys, I would hand cuff them. Most of us have a flex/3rd RB option, so we’re carrying 3 or 4 bench RB’s that aren’t that good and used based on matchups in that 3rd spot.

  18. Zandy says:

If my wrs are Calvin djax Keenan stevieJ is there any reason to pickup/drop for a jacoby or Andre Holmes?
Standard league here. I usually flex Keenan so the top three are important

Asked Louden already looking for a little sage advice from Sky … Am I crazy to be considering Ladarius Green over Jordan Cameron. Cameron got off to a hot start but has been meh over the last number of weeks. Green seems to be playing (91% of snaps last week) and producing more and more. He seems to becoming the #2 option behind Keenan Allen. No less than 8 fantasy points over the last 3 weeks. Maybe I’m overthinking; trying to talk myself into it when Cameron is really the smart play. However, Cameron could have Hanie or Tanney throwing the ball to him:( What to do??

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Not crazy but you’ll want to keep your eyes on the health of Antonio Gates and especially Eddie Royal. Most of his snaps of late have come from having Royal sidelined. His talent should get him in but Royal may regain where his snaps are coming from. I’m not too worried about who is throwing to Cameron, per se. Remember he started the year off hot with Brandon Weeden. Just keep your eye on Royal and make your decision off that.

Hey sky was considering a strategy if you have a first round bye — would it be crazy to drop your kicker to stash depth at a weak position or to play keep away on a def for other teams
I guess u could only do it if you dont have a top tier kicker (gost or prater or hauscka)
I mean you are gonna win no matter what so why not right?

Anyway i have hartley can i safely drop him for a WR stash or def stash

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

unless you have a kicker you wouldn’t want to drop, I don’t see why you wouldn’t want to. Hartley is definitely a droppable guy.

Hey there, I have a question for you. I want to see if this is “unethical” for fantasy football/ dick move, or it’s fine in your eyes. Well this will be round one of the playoffs & I noticed my opponent has a weaker QB & may need a QB off of the waiver- my opponent has been starting Ryan Tannehill & has Glennon on the bench. Since I noticed those qb’s are weaker than some qb’s available, I went ahead and added Matt Ryan (mainly because my opponent was right after me on the waiver list & if I didn’t scoop him up id have a feeling my opponent would.) Matt Ryan is projected at 22 pts , whereas his Tannehill projected at 15 pts & glennon at 16 pts. I was actually suprised the ones ahead of me didn’t put a claim in for Matt Ryan.
    - now here’s the “unethical” part I was worried about, I was planning on dropping Ryan Sunday just so my opponent couldn’t pick him up this week; I didn’t need Ryan with me having Romo & Brady just wanted to block my opponent to scoop him up, it’s not like I’m dropping Ryan to add another QB then dropping that QB, so on & so on I wouldn’t do that anyways especially Ryan is the only good one on the list besides maybe Palmer. It would only affects opponent because everyone else is fine / good at QB spots, the teams in the playoffs here are their qb’s: team 1- Peyton manning & luck, team -2 Stafford & Cam Newton, team 3 Drew brees & flacco, team 4 Tannehill/glennon, team 5 (my qb’s), team 6 RG3, team 7 kaepernick & Andy dalton , team 8 is the owner that dropped Ryan his starter is rivers no backup. But the rivers, kaepernick/dalton, rg3 owner didn’t put claims in
    Thanks

      Sky says:

If the game allows for it, it’s not unethical; it’s strategy. You won’t win many friends doing it but if we’re talking about something that the game allows, I don’t see how it could be called unethical. It’s like picking up streamer-worthy pitching in H2H leagues just to toss them back while your opponent needs it. People may hate it but it’s taking advantage of what the system allows. Also depends on whether or not you care if they think you’re a dick or not. If you care, don’t do it :)

      • Bob the builder says:
        (link)

        @Sky:

Yes sky, the game would allow me to do so, exactly I thought it was a competitive side, I agree I didn’t think it was unethical.

Also, what are your thoughts on non playoff teams picking up / dropping players ?
I’m a playoff team but I don’t have a problem with it because I think it’s strategy / if you need a big piece on the waiver to win you may have already lost. Plus I feel it makes it fun for the non playoff teams to still feel like they’re part of something
Just wondering because my league manager is pissed & put a poll up so non playoff teams can make waiver adds

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

I don’t think that they should but it goes back to your original question: it’s not illegal, the game lets you do it. Unless a rule is set in place in advance stating they can’t/shouldn’t, it’s allowed.

Getting pissed about something that’s allowed is asinine. Asking the question is fine for future seasons. It’s ok to make rules based around things you don’t want to have in your league. I’m fine with that. But getting mad it’s happening is another subject entirely. I’ve been on both sides of the spectrum in my keeper baseball league. They wanted to implement a max moves for the season rule because of how many moves I was making which ticked me off. But the flipside is I did question some trades down the stretch of this year in a keeper where players who weren’t being kept were going to non-contending teams to ‘make them fair’. Which if you’re not in it for the year, why do you need those players? The trade should be fair on its own merits. But I brought it up for discussion not out of anger just out of ‘do we care enough to work something out for 2014?’ Getting pissy about something that’s allowable by the system you play in is dumb.

          • Bob the builder says:
            (link)

            @Sky:

Exactly, he can’t go around changing things now, if he wants he can put a vote before the draft in the upcoming season,

Now lineup Q regarding my team- start Romo on MNF vs bears or Brady at Gillette vs browns?

Also, kicker I have succop do you like him or either Josh brown, Nick Novak , jay feely, or zuerlein over succop? Thanks!

    On the TE side
I have Witten and Reed and only need to play one
Would you be dropping either for Cook, Ladarius or Ertz?

    • Sky

Straight drop is hard but Reed is proving unreliable and I really like Cook’s matchup this week. I’d pick up Cook over Reed but keep in mind I’m extremely high on his matchup this week. Much more than others in the fantasy scene whom I’ve spoken with.

      • Zandy says:
        (link)

@Sky: there are a couple team weak at TE in the playoffs. Namely first place team with delanie and hurt Owen Daniels stashed… 3rd place team with Heath miller and 5th place team (my opponent with Julius Thomas and housler). Does that change your view at all? Could drop reed for cook and hope such place picks him up and then gets eliminated haha

Are you sitting gore for Woodhead in PPR this week?

    • Sky

No but only because it’s in SF and because Woodhead’s use has gone way down of late.

The ‘hawks keep playing great football overall. I have a funny feeling we don’t see Percy until the playoffs though, which for career and for playoff run purposes I’m fine with. I do think we lose this weekend, though. Monday was a big game and we just won the NFC West. SF really needs the win. Letdown game wouldn’t surprise me at all.

  29. goodfold2 says:

yesterday i dropped miller for backup defense before your answer, which was to drop dola instead.( i had figured 3 WR’s and only 2 RB’s made a 5th RB more expendable than a 5th WR, i suppose the paucity of starting RB makes that more important) my rb’s and wr’s are
    charles/bush/j.bell/vereen/
    floyd/d-jax/nelson/dola/crabtree
    also backup TE bennett.
so i’m guessing going forward crabtree is likely to be more useful than dola, in PPR. if so I’ll try to get Miller back tomorrow night.
    1. If I don’t would I be better off with Knile as charles insurance rather than a 5th WR at all? that way, i’d have the entire DET and KC RB depth, and vereen for 2 RB spots, which seems strong.

    • goodfold2 says:
      (link)

@goodfold2: i’m seeing in rankings that dola slightly edges out crabs this week, but my question relates to if one of these guys would actually have to play over d-jax/nelson/Floyd, which would likely only happen in either week 15 or 16 if one of those 3 got hurt, so it’s a last 2/3 of season question rather than this week.

  30. Friar says:
    (link)

I’ve snagged a bye this week, which means I can now turn my attention solely toward winning in weeks 15 and 16. With that in mind, I want to make sure I have solid matchups for all my starters and, while the Carolina DST looks great against the Jets in week 15, they seem a bit riskier against the Saints in week 16, so I’d like to stash a second defense in preparation.

Looking ahead to week 16, which of these defenses do you like the most?
    Rams vs TB
    Bucs @ StL
    Jets vs CLE
    Browns @ NYJ
    Lions vs. NYG
