Finally.  After much ‘I don’t know if I can get to them’ and ‘I’m not sure I’ll have time’ and ‘I don’t wanna go to school today mommy, can I stay home and play Double Dragon Neon?’ I’ve finally produced the ‘just the tiers’ thingie you’ve all been clamoring for.  Yes all 4 of you!  And one of you I didn’t get them done on time for!  I’m a jerk!  Mea culpa, it’s hard enough keeping up with ever-changing Fantasy Football news for rankings updates, it just gets worse when you’re also trying to watch the games for some insight.  Wait, did I just complain about watching football?  Someone should slap me for that one…neverthewho!  Below you’ll find my tiers via a google excel doc.  You may notice some changes to tiers.  I’m slowly working on some revamped rankings.  This is your version of a sneak peak.  Nothing huge other then creating a new tier that involves Lacy and excludes Montee and a few lower end guys moving up and down. I do believe you can copy/paste this to your own excelly-ma-bobber and print as needed or perhaps you might be able to print directly from.  Not gonna lie, I don’t really know, I just knew you wanted these tiers for your 2013 Fantasy Football drafting season and I hope this works out for you…Friendly reminder which may not be friendly by Wednesday if you don’t do it alert!  We’re still filling and needing commissioners for our Razzball Commenter Leagues.  Click that link for more details but I will spoil one part: grand winner gets a prize.  So click, learn more, expand your horizons, yadda times three.  Anywho, back to our post:

Does it worry you that Ivory has been nicked up already in pre-season? I know it’s only minor but dude seems to get hurt! I have an owner who wants Cobb real bad … he’s willing to part with Demaryus and Ivory …Demaryus would replace Cobb and Ivory would replace Pierce. He also wants a 2nd round pick … we protect 10 (1qb,3rb,3 wr,1 te,1k,1 d) Is this a no brainer? Thx for the wealth of info.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Demaryius is an upgrade over Cobb all by himself. Ivory is icing. Take it and run with it, my man.

RE: Ivory, it’s a physical position. Think outside of lisfranc his history isn’t as nicked up as people dream it up to be. Still think he’s a solid RB2 play this year; not overly concerned yet.

  2. PumpItUp says:

PPR… I waited on TE in ended up with Housler… Gresham and Davis are on the waiver wire… Based on your tiers, Gresham should be the guy I should pick up, but do you expect Eifert to take away catches as the season progresses?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I do. You’ll notice by tier names my likes and dislikes usually. I’m not huge on Gresham this year, but I recognize the safety of taking him where he’s going. Overall, unless I have one of the top 8 TEs cheap, I’m aiming for upside. Fred Davis I like a lot, I’d go with him.

                (link)

@Frank White: Cruz should be around then too, and Wilson is more likely to give you value in future years than Cruz, in my opinion.

  8. Dingbat says:
    (link)

Awesome, thanks for doing this. I seem to remember seeing some coverage of which players to look for if your league counts return yardage. Any plans to do something like that this year?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

No prob. I won’t be able to get to return yardage and to be honest, return yardage leagues usually don’t add that much value unless you play in really deep leagues. Basically, if it’s not a league where you’d draft a Hester/Cribbs type player, then it’s probably not worth worrying too much about.

      • goodfold2 says:
        (link)

@Sky: this is of course unless somebody like c.paterson or cobb, actually does kick off returns, then they become a top 5 option at position, if they already are useful players normally.

  9. Schizer says:
    (link)

Keeper question for a 12 team PPR. Start QB, 2 RB, 2 WR, FLEX. Keeper options are Jamaal Charles (2nd round), Julio Jones (3rd), Torrey Smith (7th), or Kaepernick (10th or 14th, still debating value of kept FAs). Also, traded for an extra 3rd round pick last year so I’ll still have a pick if I keep Jones. Leaning toward keeping Charles & Jones. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

That’s a really nice value on Kaep in either round. I’d personally go with him and Charles.

  10. Pope says:

Hey Sky, thanks for these posts, the tiers are great and make me feel a lot better about my draft. Loving the good news about Gronk so far. Anyway, after reading, I feel like I should drop Joseph Randle (DAL) for Sudfeld. We just drafted yesterday, 14 team PPR league with no K and an extra Flex spot (with any position eligibility). What do you think? Dunbar seems to be the handcuff, don’t see much reason to ever use Randle.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

No prob, Pope! I’d definitely dive in on Sudfeld over Randle. Murray looks like he’s healthy enough to start the year and Dunbar is stealing that handcuff role.

      • Pope says:
        (link)

        @Sky: For sure. Thanks man

  11. Di Ro says:

Works on my iPad just hard to scroll down on the tiers, just happy they’re up!

I am thinking of going RB, RB, RB, WR, WR, QB (hoping Stafford, Wilson or Luck is still available)

Do you like this strategy or should I look to get a WR before a 3rd RB?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      Ah cool, good to know.

I think it really just depends on the value of the players available. Eventually there’s diminishing returns to going after your RB3 but I’m not opposed to it. That’s more of how the draft flows then it is a direct strategy. It does depend on who you value at WR, too. I really like Amendola as a low end WR1 but I know I can get him cheap. If you think he’s a WR2, the value won’t be there for you. I think you’ll still get a solid QB going that route, though.

  12. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

In a dynasty league, how important do you think it is to cuff Rice with Pierce? We start 2 RB and a flex, and my RB are: Foster, Rice, Forte, L. Miller and Tate. I have the 7th pick in the upcoming rookie/FA draft. I expect Pierce to be available at my first pick, but not my second. That said, at least a couple guys from the following group will also be available: Lattimore, Ivory, J. Stewart, Hillman, C. Michael, Franklin. Given that I have Rice, where is Pierce in that group? Since I have depth, I’m awfully tempted to grab Lattimore at that 7 pick if he falls. Less of a concern is that apparently I’ll need a RB for week 8, when all but Miller are on bye, but not sure I should use that as justification for a first round pick of Ivory or Stewart–a lot can happen before then.

Also, if I want to make a second pick in that draft, I’d have to drop K. Wright. We start 2 WR (given my RB, I never start a WR at flex) and my others are Dez, Roddy, Bowe and Smiff. Potential picks in the second round are Michael, Broyles, maybe Hopkins or Patterson. Drop Wright for any of them, or hold? Non-PPR.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I’m not really into handcuffing. I’ll take either Lattimore or Ivory there. Since you don’t really need it for starting purposes and it’s dynasty, I’ll take Lattimore.

I don’t see you getting a chance to start Wright. Could go after what’s left of those RBs next for sure.

      • Dr. Sauce says:
        (link)

        @Sky:
Are people predicting Lattimore is SF’s starting rb next year? Admittedly don’t know a tonne about him what do you think is his upside? Draft coming up (10 man keeper … all 12 teams must keep 3 rb’s) i don’t have a 1st round pick but Lattimore may be available wwhen i pick … we have a injured reserve spot so he could be stashed. Who do you like more Lattimore or Christine Michel?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

I don’t know if they’re predicting it but I don’t see Kendall Hunter as the lead back there when Gore is gone nor LaMichael. That said, I do see Chrstine taking over in Seattle after this year with maybe a little to give this year. I’d take him in that scenario but you might want to hit uop @thatmurph on twitter or on one of his dynasty posts here to get his take.

      Sky says:
      (link)

Wow Bernard in the 4th? Were you thinking he wouldn’t come back to you later?

Don’t mind your WR set really and with Wilson as your 2 and Gio/Ryan your flex I don’t have a problem with your team.

      • FrankGrimes says:
        (link)

@Sky: He prob would have been there next round but there was maybe four RB left that I “wanted” so I figured it was either these guys or a big QB cuz WR is so deep. I got greg jennings and mike Floyd as well since I waited on QB. I think jennings is undervalued and could excel if healthy. It seems we kinda on same page snake draft wise except for SJax.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

@FrankGrimes: Yeah, your setup isn’t bad at all. Gio went really early in the expert draft tonight. Right after I took Ivory in the 5th, actually. You didn’t reach by much if at all.

          • FrankGrimes says:
            (link)

@Sky: yep ivory was on that short list. I should have grabbed Romo in the ninth but didn’t and in the tenth surprisingly lots of peeps took their back up QBs even a kicker so I missed out. I was only one without one at that point. So I said fuck it it will be fun to stream QBs!

              Sky says:
              (link)

Nice! Yeah, QBs just kept falling down the draft ladder. Wanted Gronk in the 6th but he went 5 picks before so I ‘settled’ for RGIII. Felt he had the largest value of the players left at that point or I would’ve done the same thing.

Was thinking more in terms of tiers of where guys are going. He’s in a timeshare and going ahead of Ivory. Think that’s a mistake. I really do believe in him but in terms of value where he’s going, it’s starting to dissipate a bit.

  16. Howie says:

Both of my leagues are of the non-PPR variety…any chance to tweak the tiers for such a version? Thanks!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Hey Howie, sorry I don’t. Think overall PPR only really effects the Sproles types where so much of their value is hung primarily on their recs. slip guys like that a little further down – say a couple o tiers – and you’ll be pretty close to how I’d approach it

  17. Mike says:

Hey Sky, thanks for all the info!

Joined my bro as a co-commissioner this year in a big $ keeper league.
2 keepers…ours are MJD and FItzgerald. He tanked last year and loaded up with picks. We have #3, 10, 12 and 13.

    Here are some guys available:
    -dez
    -DT
    -Steven Jackson
    -Chris Johnson
    -Brandon Marshall
    -Ridley
    -gronk
    -cam

Our tentative strategy is to take gronk at 3 (if healthy) best rb available at 10, cam at 12 and best available wr at 13.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

    Mike

Seems very early to take Gronk given the injury. He just went late in the 5th of an experts league tonight. So what picks do you have after those? It’s hard to gauge where you should be taking guys without that info. In a nutshell, I’d go SJax/DT/Dez/Bmarsh but that’s off of my rankings and excludes any possible missing draft picks between then and the 6th.

Agreed. I just thought it was funny I took Knowshon late. I mean, seriously, if you’re gonna gamble on a shituation that’s so up in the air, why not aim for the cheapest guy available? Wouldn’t have taken DeAngelo if he didn’t fall that late to me. He can ride the pine until December for me.

I’m not as worried as most are about Foster but of course I didn’t rank him as the 2nd best back either so I guess I’m immune. I think he’s gonna produce and be healthy, just not at the level people are expecting. Agree with you on Dennis, though. Strange he’s still out there with all the fear going around.

I was mad when Sudfeld went. Had him lined up in the same round or shortly thereafter. Has a huge chance to step in and produce right away in NE right now. My Ertz consolation might be nice, though.

@FrankGrimes: your totally right that’s why I don’t understand why people grab these defenses kickers and back up QBs. I took zac in the 12th what if Gronk isn’t healthy til week 8 or they both co exist. who knows Erz is a good gamble as well. If not then we dump their asses.

I have foster as a keeper in one other league. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. He hasn’t practiced since May they say which is troubling but I will just draft hella RBs as usual and hope one pops just like foster did few years back.

Agree, I don’t pick up a K or DEF until I absolutely have to. I want to know what my bench will do before the season starts. I’ll take Ertz over the Ravens D any day.

Hi, interesting rankings. Please share your thoughts on my situations.
    1) 10 team- who would you keep (same mid-late rd value): Cobb, Kaepernick, d Wilson, D.Richardson. 4pts/TD pass, 6 rushing/receiving TD. 1pt/ 15yds non-PPR. Start 2RBs,3WRs, and flex

    2) 10 team .5PPR BIG MONEY LEAGUE. You pick a RB in RD1 and in Rd2 you have an option of Forte or one of the “superfluous” WRs and Jones. Who do you take and why? Also, start 2RBs,3WRs and flex.

    3) which RBs have to be off the board for you to take Calvin Johnson Rd1 or are you taking a RB no matter what Rd1

    Thank you for your insight

    • Sky

      Sky says:

      1) You can only keep one? D. Wilson

      2) Since I ranked Forte below that tier, I’ll say that tier. I’d go strictly by my rankings on that one.

      3) If he falls to me as the 10th pick and the RBs I have ranked ahead of him are gone, I take him there (SJax is the cutoff point on that)

Hey sky, had our draft the other day and was wondering if you could provide some feedback or notice any glaring weaknesses. It’s 12 team ppr setting. I had the 10th overall pick. Thanks!

    Qb- Brady
    Wr – megatron
    Wr- roddy white
    Rb – forte
    Rb- bell
    Te – Jared cook
    Flex – ivory
Bench : ej Manuel, Christine Michael, Bryce brown, deangelo Williams, Ruben randle, sutfield

I’m a little concerned with bell, supposed foot injury tonight and that oline won’t be doing him any favors. Also took your advice and nabbed ivory in the 7th

Your team looks good. Wish you had one more clear cut starting RB on your bench but you can make due if Bell’s injury is more serious then it appears. Like the bench though one minor/personal quibble: probably don’t need a bench QB with Brady at the helm. Could just stream the week he’s out on bye. Nonetheless, team looks promising. Just keep your ears peeled on the Bell situation.

Comparing the tiers with the overall rankings, have you changed your mind on Shady? I believe you had him ranked below MJD before.

    Also Lynch or Richardson?

    Thanks

I have and I did. I mentioned this was kind of a sneak peak to new rankings coming out.

Tough choice you’re asking me there since I have them in the same tier. Just took T-Rich over Lynch in a draft tonight, though, so I’ll say T-Rich.

Thanks for the posts Sky, your insight is always entertaining, and I am a glutton for the pun-ishment you dole out with every article. Keep up the good work.

Thoughts on my situation/strategy…0.5 ppr, keep 4 offensive players (kaep, martin, demaryius and fitz) and 1 IDP (Allen). I will need an RB2 with my first pick at 1.04 in our redraft and don’t pick again until 3.07 so I have to make it count. A number of McFadden, Miller, Ball, Bell, Lacy and Ivory will be available but they all carry risks right now, either injury or playing time, and I’m starting to consider gambling on Bernard with a hope for some upside plus the improved position he’ll likely be in next season if I decide to keep him. Am I crazy? I like what he’s done with his opportunities in the preseason and think the Cinci offence will be solid this year, and they’ll win the AFC north easily (not a fan, btw – Raider fan, so fantasy is all I’ve got right now). I’d love to have Vereen, Richardson or even Brown (NY) fall to me with my second pick in the third but am not sure that will happen since everyone will pick at least 1 Rb in the 26 picks between my first and second so this has to be the right pick. This post is approaching TLDR territory so I’ll stop here.

Ha, I aim to please/annoy. Hopefully somewhere in there is useful info!

You’re not crazy. I admittedly love Bernard but I think you should go Ivory. I’m very worried that for all this preseason hype, he’s still in a 50/50 split for BJGE for the near future. He just went in the 5th behind Ivory (yes, I drafted Ivory). Hopefully that gives you how I’d lean/some insight.

@ceedub: I’m sure ivory will have some kind of time share situation and jets suck balls. I vote gamble but I have a problem. People say gambling is a disease but its the only disease where you can win a lot of money.

      • ceedub says:
        (link)

@FrankGrimes: Thanks for the responses. I like Ivory a lot, but his lack of practice and the coupling of his running style with his tendency to tweak this and that have me concerned. I’m leaning towards Bernard because of the 0.5 ppr and his team’s outlook going forward, but it might just depend who’s on the board at that point.

Who are your top 5 RBs most likely to come out of nowhere this year and have huge seasons?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Hard to say, I wouldn’t say there are many overlooked RBs right now on the draft table and the word ‘huge’ carries a lot of weight. If we’re talking value, Daryl Richardson/Chris Ivory/Gio Bernard/Knowshon Moreno/Danny Woodhead (possible PPR stud).

    • FrankGrimes says:
      (link)

@mpc: “out of nowhere” would take an unfortunate injury to someone’s for that to happen but if our looking for a late late flyer there is Christine Michael Stefan Taylor Dennis Johnson would be three maybe Zac Stacy. Watch as many games as possible next week maybe you see the next Alfred Morris.

When do teams usually ir their players? I.e. Percy harvin, lattimore etc

Not sure about the name and question irony u speak of lol but all good on the question. Wasn’t sure if they wait until the brink of WK 1 or put them on ir much sooner for roster space.

Yeah, it’s hard to say. I’m sure there’s a deadline they have to get that info into the league by but I don’t know if they can do it before.

Great post. I intend on using this as a reference during my keeper league draft. My plan is to compare our tiers and focus on commonalities. I have adjusted some of my tiers based on your posting and our commentary. I appreciate the write up. I will let you know how the draft goes.

And as an FYI, SJax was dropped in my league. I have the first pick. It is X-Mas.

    Hi Sky,

Long time listener, first time caller.

    10 team ppr keeper league
QB, RB, RB, WR, WR, Flex (RB/WR), TE, K, D
I kept Peterson (costs me 1st Round pick) and RG3 (10th rounder).
    Snake draft
My first pick will be 11th overall (Peterson cost me my 10th Overall).

Due to keepers and my first round projections, I am guessing I’ll be left with your 5th tier or RB’s and 2nd/3rd Teir of WR’s (and maybe Jimmy Graham, Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees).

I am at a loss as to which direction to go. I won’t pick again until the 3oth overall pick, so i need this one to count! What direction should I go?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

If you have a shot at a WR from the 2nd tier, I’d go that route. If not, take the RB route.
