Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

Well, Thursday Night the New York Giants called their primary physician to see what their status was.  They’re PP – I’m not touching this joke with a ten foot pole…the joke is a Giant’s PP…maybe you shouldn’t touch it either; might be infected – decided that because it was the NFC East that maybe they could just take another penicillin shot.  I don’t care how much penicillin you take at this point, the problem still exists.  Tom Coughlin has been a great coach.  Well, ok, a good, so-so, ok great coach.  But now you’re gonna talk to me about Super Bowl rings as your shining note, arncha?  Well, here’s some math that might calm your nerves.  One of these coaches has a record of 83-67 since 2004 since the 2004 season.  The other, an 84 and 64 record since the same season.  Both have 3 NFC East titles at this point in history.  So what’s the difference?  Super Bowls.  Mainly, two of them.  Tom Coughlin and his Giants can hang their hat on 2 SB rings while Andy Reid and the Eagles have none.  Yet only one team has moved on from it’s coach.  Fair?  Given the 0-6 start to the Giants, it doesn’t matter whether it’s fair.  What matter is, ‘what Giants are retainable vs trade-worthy’ and  at this point, I’m considering all the receivers as buy lows.  The defense is stopping nothing at this point, no reason to think the wide outs can’t benefit on some level.  The RBs?  Ehhhhh, not interested until Andre’s back.  The QB? That…that is a question wrapped within an enigma trapped inside a riddle and folded up inside a used baby diaper.  It was a night only an 0-6 team could muster and I’m pretty sure Tom Coughlin’s gonna be the scapegoat when this mess of a season is finally over.  Is he partially to blame?  Sure, his treatment of David Wilson was extremely poor given his other choices behind him.  You don’t play mind games with your lead running back when he’s backed up by a guy nicknamed ‘Frankenstein’ but Coughlin isn’t the only problem in New York for this extremely overdone season.  In other news from TNF for 2013 Fantasy Football…

Eli Manning – After another mediocre start (239/1/3), this brother Manning is on pace for over 45 interceptions.  And when it was all said and done, his pick-6 near the beginning of the game was pretty much the decider.  This book of Eli is starting to look like it was written with coloring crayons.

Brandon Marshall – What is there to say?  9/87/2 while he wore stylish neon green shoes which he’ll probably draw a fine for.  Brandon doesn’t care, folks.  He’d just prefer to focus on being awesome.

Jay Cutler – Though the numbers were good as Jay went for 262/2/0 and rushed for 20, it wasn’t quite the breakout party most were hoping for.  I blame TNF and Cutler’s overall state of mind.  All that said, Jay’s been hovering around the top 15 QBs most of the season and I’m pretty sure that trend is here to stay.  Of course, so are his random 3 INT games so take this all for what you will.

Matt Forte – Underwhelming night for a guy who was facing one of the poorer defenses against the run.  Despite that, he managed to gain over 100 total yards (67 on the ground and 6/44 through the air).  It wasn’t the strongest game so I can’t yet bust out his ‘Matt Fuerte’ nickname just yet.

Martellus Bennett – The Black Unicorn looked as sleek and shiny as his nickname attests to, finishing with a 6/68 line.  I swear every throw to him should’ve only gone for 5 yards but he’d shed an ankle tackle and double it.  I’m still liking him ROS as a top 15 TE at this point and as a Top 3 Nicknames player.

Rueben Randle – Ran the wrong route to create an INT and then got saved by the refs later in the game by a fumble ‘no it’s not a fumble’ play.  He mucked through all this to be the most productive wideout for the Giants on the night (3/75/1).  There’s your Fantasy season in a nutshell, Hakeem Nicks owners.  No, there’s no restart button.  If there was, I’d have already pushed it.

Brandon Jacobs – I have no words for how bad the Bears defense looked which made Jacobs look downright beastly.  His end line – 22/106/2 – will not point out that his old moniker of Frankenstein is more fitting than ever.  Though he did run with some aggression that we haven’t seen in a while from him, if someone’s been tricked into buying, take advantage.  He still looks like random parts of dead flesh sewn together to be put into the Giants backfield because they have no one else.

Alshon Jeffery – After a breakout party of sorts last week, Alshine light went dim with a 1/27 effort on 5 targets.  Given how many passes were just overthrown or just off his fingertips, I’m still buying into the Bears having one more wide out who’s not named Earl Bennett.  But until then, we need the obligatory Brady reference to end this: MARSHALL, MARSHALL, MARSHALL!

    Sky,

I’m in a 12 team, one QB non-ppr league. I’ve been offered Phillip Rivers for my Darren Sproles. It seems like a good trade. I have Vick, Foles, and RG3 as my QBs. Foles is just insurance for Vick this week, and I’m considering starting him over RG3 this week. Sproles is my flex guy, and I’d be replacing him with either James Jones or Greg Jennings on a weekly basis. Losing Sproles would leave me with no RBs to fill in for the bye weeks. Do you think Rivers is for real and would represent a significant enough upgrade to make this deal? I’m leaning no, but what do you think?

    • Sky

      Sky says:

I’d rather not be forced to start Jennings or James Jones on a weekly basis. I like Rivers fine but there’s no reason to make that deal.

Smoking Jay Cutler baby. Da Bears! That is all…

Wait, no it’s not. Forte only ran the ball 5 times in the first half. Sometimes, no, all of the time, the Bears offensive game plan boggles my mind. Free points after an Eli pick on the first possession? Nah, let’s go for it on 4th and goal…

I really liked their 2 minute drill at the end of the first half. Like they were just at practice or something. No urgency. It was like ‘hey guys, ya know you might wanna score some points before the half closes’. Even Andy Reid thought it was done poorly.

      • Cram It says:
        (link)

@Sky: Inexplicable. As was the fact that they needed to stop the Giants on their last drive. Very confused as to how that game wasn’t in the bag earlier.

Totally! After they went up two scores, I thought they’d go Forte heavy and just grind it down. So weird how yesterday played out on many levels.

          • Wilsonian says:
            (link)

@Sky: I also saw Forte WIDE OPEN on a number of plays where Cutler could have just checked down to him and probably got 10-20 yards gains, but Cutler went all old school Cutler/Sexy Rexy and flung that SOB downfield to no gain. He was also wide open on the botched 4th and Goal play that Marshall bobbled. He could have crawled into the endzone. I have no clue why they don’t over exploit the skills Forte has. He could be a top-3 back if they’d just give him the damn ball a little more. And yes, I’m a Bears fan and a Forte owner.

            • Cram It says:
              (link)

@Wilsonian: Yup. Forte should be used way more out of the backfield. Cutler never looks his way and I hate him for it, among other things. 50 receptions a year for Forte is extreme under utilization.

              • Wilsonian says:
                (link)

@Cram It: he could easily be MF2K if they used him correctly. But they don’t. It’s better than the Lovie-Era, but still not where they should be. The friggin check down would get him about 80-100 yards receiving a game. Not to mention completely open up the long ball and rushing game. But it’s like they refuse to use it unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.

                • Cram It says:
                  (link)

@Wilsonian: I thought Tresstman would orchestrate the offense around him more. It’s a wee tad little better than in the past (on pace for over 80 rec) but you can’t dump it off to him enough. Forte is an elite back in real-life. Get him the damn ball.

      Morning Byron!

D-Rich I see getting to PPR-level of flex if the Rams can get their shizz together. Unfortunately, I think it’s gonna take an injury to Powell at this point to get Ivory going. The man needs touches. D-Rich probably has the easier path but it’s gonna be a minimal output.

@Sky: yup. I tried to tell people that WRs are more valuable in this league, and in the NFL now in general. People want Dez Bryant for an RB3. It’s insane. Not sure if there are any worthy QB streams this week. Maybe little Ben, Flaccid, Pryor, or maybe Foles. If Megatron is playing, I’m going with Stafford. If he isn’t, I have Russell or any of those guys available to me.

I’m reaching the level of desperation in 0.5 ppr league w/ 3 WR, plus FLEX (R/W/T)
RB – Spiller, Jones-Drew, Moreno, Ball, Blount, Stacy
WR – Cobb, Peter Waiter, Steve Smith, Broyles, 2013 Fantasy Sleeper Vincent Brown, and Percy Harvin
    TE – Jimmy Graham, Gronk

My team is 1-4 now, but I believe help is on the way when Gronk and Harvin finally return. If I can’t wait any longer, should I be looking to deal Harvin and if so what should I be looking for in return?

P.S. We spoke a couple weeks ago about this team…had to give up on Givens to get Vincent Brown while I still could.

    • Sky

      Sky says:

Injuries make it hard to move players. Their value is predicated by their name and what they might do when they come back. You’re not gonna get much at this stage in most leagues until they’re actually playing. Your WR3 situation will hopefully solidify w/Brown stepping up. Still a solid looking squad. I’m guessing who you’ve started has played a large role in your record, not the players involved.

You Can’t Take the Sky From Me,

Good stuff as always my friend. A few questions for you heading into the weekend (14 team Yahoo standard scoring league, so far I’m down 30ish to 0 since my opponent had Eli and Marshall last night, and they kind of balanced each other out). These might seem obvious, so bear with me.

    1. Pick two from Le’veon, T-Rich, PT, and Zac Stacy to start. I’m definitely leaning toward the first two just am a little concerned that they are both facing solid run defenses and the latter two are picking it up/getting their time to shine lately.

    2. Pick one from Denarius, Keenan Allen, and Kenbrell (only if Gronk doesn’t play, obviously). I kind of like Allen only because I feel like Denarius will see a lot of Brandon Flowers and the stingy Chiefs secondary, but in my mind it’s all kind of a toss up.

    3. Preparing for the Jimmy Graham bye week. Out of the above players that I’ve mentioned, Shane Vereen, and Percy Harvin, who would you drop to grab a fill in TE?

Thank you sir, and have yourself a mighty fine weekend.

    Brew

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      Thanks for the kind words!

      1) I actually have PT ranked pretty high this week, a couple of spots over Le’Veon. That’s how I’d role +TRich

      2) I like Allen there

      3) I want to know more about Gronk before I speak up on it. Right now it’s Kenbrell for me because I don’t think he keeps up his production if Gronk does return.

      And you too!

  34. Velocity_X says:

I have a dilemma in my PPR league, albeit a good one to have. I currently have Decker, Nelson, and V-Jax in as my WR/Flex, with Calvin Johnson on the bench. However, if Calvin does end up playing, would you bench someone else to slide him in, and if so, whom?

    • BrewFreeOrDie says:

@Velocity_X: @Velocity_X: I would definitely bench V-Jax if Megatron is playing.

1.peterson’s kid beaten to death by mother’s current boyfriend? jesus
    2. wilson’s back might f up season or worse
    3. if ingram plays (just finding out that was even possible), any of f-jax/d.moore/m.williams (if he plays) over p.thomas?
    4. if bolden doesn’t play, any of stacy/k.allen/MJD over him at util? MJD and allen play late enough that even if bolden is actually “game time” decision i’d have one of those 2. stacy plays before bolden.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      1) Yeah, there’s no words for how messed up that is

      2) Well thanks to Coughlin, his season never really started. Sleeper for next year!

      3) Possibly FJax; depends on Ingram’s role

      4) Hold off for Bolden and if he’s a no go, Allen’s a wildcard upside play. Let your day tell you if you need major upside (MJD doesn’t provide it right now).

ehhhh! more gronk misinfo bullshit. at least heath miller is free. who’s my drop for miller: k.allen(whom i just got for dropping other backup TE)/hill/sanders. PPR league. this is likely longer than 1 week question, and miller is much the best free agent TE. Hard to believe a forearm is causing all of this. They did bring Gronk back too early last time.

Hey Sky, good stuff! I’ve got RB issues in a deeper league. It’s only 10 teams but we start 3 RB and most have another 3-4 on the bench. I’m in deep shizz because I drafted Wilson as my #1 and it looks like he’s done, not that he’s been worth a damn anyways. Anyhow, I need to pick up a RB off my waivers and was hoping to get your opinion on how to rank ‘em. We’re talking scraps here, but I need to grab 1 of these guys and appreciate your insight. I was thinking a shot on Stewart but I’m cursed with my opinions. Thanks brother!

  39. Scott says:

Would a Stafford, Garcon, Amendola package be a no brainer in a nonppr league for Rivers, Dez? Or am I giving too much? What about removing Amendola for a 2 for 2.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

You’d need to remove 1 WR. I’d try ‘dola first.

  40. goodfold2 says:

owner who just traded mathews for hilton just came at me with his wayne for my moreno. this owner also has wilson and is clearly worried about his RB picture. PPR league with 1 pt per 10 return yards, my roster is this
    rodgers
cobb/jeffery/k.allen/sanders (only have to play 2 WR)
    sproles/miller/moreno/jacquizz/tate/vereen
    gronk/miller
    tucker
    Jets Def

I’m thinking if miller’s coaches would use him properly this trade would get done immediately. that clearly not being the case so far i don’t know what to do. also if vereen weren’t still going to be out so long i’d do this trade easily, also if Foster were to get really hurt or s-jax and snelling to stay injured longer. (esp since without j.jones jacquizz’s stock should only be going up)

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

You don’t really have the RB depth to make a move like that unless it’s a 2 for 2…

      • goodfold2 says:
        (link)

@Sky: this owner also has hillman so he’s right to come after my moreno. he also has d.williams (CAR) and wilson. Would either D.williams or wilson (if it’s deemed likely that he only misses 3 weeks including yesterday) be good such that his 1 of those with wayne for my moreno/ and 1 of sanders/allen? I’m thinking the only way this looks ok is if not only does wilson come back, but he looks good nearly immediately. D.Williams doesn’t seem attractive to me (even over my backup depth guys like tate/vereen/jacquizz), as at least with vereen/tate (if foster got hurt) i know what i have and would start them and feel good about it.

        • Sky

Doesn’t really sound like you can work out a reasonable trade there.

  41. Scott says:
    (link)

Which do you prefer – trade Marshawn for J. Graham and start Knowshon Moreno or trade Knowshon for J. Cameron and start Marshawn? My other RB is Doug Martin and I would start G. Graham at TE if I don’t trade at all.

    • goodfold2 says:
      (link)

@Scott: who is your third RB in case you do the first and Knowshon gets phased out? The 2nd one is safer for that reason. But the first one goes for the home run.

      • Scott says:
        (link)

@goodfold2: Woodhead is the only other RB on my roster. I hear you on the Knowshon phase out, but I also have this fear that Lynch’s nagging injuries will catch up with him.

        • goodfold2 says:
          (link)

@Scott: i’m guessing most of the time you’re having to bench one of moreno/woodhead each week. If it’s a PPR that sucks as both are useful.

    Love your stuff Sky!
My friend I’m playing against has Rivers this week. I need to start from these WRs but only have 2 spots left (thanks My Victor Cruz’s 6pts)… Blackmon, Garçon, or Keenan Allen. I was leaning start Blackmon and Keenan bc Blackmon will be heavily targeted and Allen bc Rivers will throw a bunch to him scoring me pts as well. I’m scared the cowboys will shut Garçon down like they did Demarius Thomas last week. What say you? (Non ppr league)
Also please pick between Alfred Morris and Fred Jckson.

      Thanks Dave!

Garcon has great numbers/history against the Cowboys and the Cowboys didn’t really shut DT down…they let three other guys go off. Just how the game played out. If you’re trying to stuff your friend by starting Allen, that’s fine (not what I would do but I getcha) but Garcon would be the wiser start in my book there.

      Morris.
