Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

Hello all, this is a living, breathing version of our rankings.  It’s the best place to come for the most up-to-date rankings for our Pre-Season top everything.  It’s without words, which we are loathe to do but we’re also loathe to leave you hanging so this is our compromise.  We will be working with Fantasy Pros so that the updates are live not only here but on the CheatSheetWizard for your drafting pleasure.  You’ll be able to find this link under our 2012 Fantasy Football Rankings section at the top just to make sure you don’t get  lost in the link shuffle.  Each tab is exactly what it sounds like and there is a standard vs PPR ranking for those in need.  For some positions, I have added more than the typical amount to reflect my interest so you might see a top 73.  I dislike the need to round things by five, it makes you highlight players you wouldn’t normally highlight and that’s just silly.  With that said, may the power of the drafting force be with you this season and lead you to Fantasy Gold for 2012.

whats the deal with Gates(TE#9) and Matthews(RB#23). I understand Matthews may not be 100%, but still 23? Comeonnn mannnnn

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I have Andre and Gates in the top ten but low because of their health risk at a position that is easy to fill this year, talent-wise. I did some reading on broken clavicles and it ain’t pretty. He’s currently listed as being out anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months and that’s enough for me to remove him from a circle of trust to start the year.

  2. douglas says:
    (link)

Going all in on DeMarco, eh? he still has a lot left to prove to me. Plus that DAL O-line seems horrible. He’s a Dez Bryant/Miles Austin injured hammie away from finding 8 in the box on a regular basis.

I’ve seen FAR worse disparity on other lists, but I just don’t buy Julio > than Roddy. Julio may have more highlight reel plays, but Roddy will have more recs, yards and yes, even TDs (Ryan targets Roddy 3 times for every 1 of Julio in RZ)

Like your Antonio Brown and Eric Decker love, tho.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I have Julio & Roddy right next to eachother and in the same tier. I could go either way on them for this season, personally.

DeMarco was by default. With the Mathews and Richardson issues, he moved up a bit in my ranks.

Thanks about Antonio. Just think he’s being underrated given his year last year. Decker should be the Broncos #1 WR. I think Demaryius is getting way overpriced given how raw he is. Peyton don’t play that.

  3. S-Quire says:

Only four comments? C’mon people. . . Focusing on RB’s: overall very nice work. Halfway point between chalk and some nuance, how it should be. Decisions I don’t agree with, I nonetheless understand. But here’s some food for thought. One thing that JUMPED out at me . . . Felix Jones flex-worthy? Color me dubious, particularly with how high you rated Murray I’d think there isn’t enough pie left over.Something’s gotta give. Demarco + Felix does not = poor man’s Jamaal + Hillis. Also looks like Starks’ outlook surprisingly rosy despite uninspiring play last year, addition of Ced Benson, and lack of committment to the run game. Potentially solid contributor Law Firm ranked next to Beanie’s replacement a little surprising also, not to mention Beanie’s ranking apparently influenced by recent infusion of adamantium into bone structure, which I was heretofore unaware of. Yeah, I said it. Heretofore.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Re: Murray/Jones, sometimes flex plays are also about recognizing how safe a player is. I don’t know if DeMarco is really all that safe so I feel I need to take Felix to hedge my bets. It’s also why Toby is higher on my charts than most places.

Re: Starks, gonna wait one more preseason game and go from there. I had been on vacation so I was doing my best this week to reshuffle my rankings. Cedric’s situation will be interesting but even as a lead back in Cincy when he was ‘good’, he was more about quantity than quality and isn’t a receiving back soooo…yeah, i’m just not that hip on him.

Re: BJGE, to me he is filling the role of Cedric – i.e. 6 or 7 ground touchdowns with a 3.7 YPC – but isn’t being promised the lion’s share of carries since Bernard is said to be worked into the offense a lot this year. It pushes him down the chart a bit for me.

Re: heretofore…ha! I’m giving Beanie preseason to prove me wrong though Ryan Williams ran nice yesterday against Oakland. Beanie did play 14 games last year and scored 10 touchdowns when guys could stack the box with the Skelton/Kolb crud at QB for the Cards. In the end, I like Ryan Williams and what he could do but since they’re both health risks and I’ve seen what a semi-healthy Beanie could do, I am giving him the hedge right now.

Who should I keep in a PPR league??…….Marshawn Lynch or Darrin Sproles?

    • Curt says:

@Curt, Lynch as a 9th rounder, Sproles is an 11th…

      • Sky

Hrm, that’s tough. Even though it’s PPR, I’d rather take Lynch but I’d still target Sproles in the draft to make up for not having many REC with Marshawn.

Im considering trading Vick for Matt Ryan and Decker. I also have Rivers at QB whom I like to bounce back, so I figure Vick is a luxury and an injury waiting to happen. The rest of my team is Fitzgerald, Steve Smith, Lloyd, Britt, Charles, Sproles, Trent, and Doug Martin. Am I right to bail on Vick in favor of a safe backup QB and a high upside WR, or should I wait til Vick’s value climbs a bit? Thanks!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

It’s a trade I’d do. As I’ve mentioned many times this off-season, I really like Matt Ryan. You might get value flat across the board there. Decker could just make it a steal.

Nicks at 23??? that hurts me deeply SKy!!! So my first draft I ended up with AJ Green, Nicks, Harvin, and Antonio brown. what u think? I could have drafted jennings or wallace but I took Green who I think is gonna blow up

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

His foot hurt me deeply! I really do like him but read about his injury in the off-season and how it affected one of his teammates longer than expected. I’m cautious when it comes to injuries as you’ll note with my lack of Mathews love at this point.

I love that WR set. I have AJ as a top 10 WR and Harvin/Brown in my top 20. I tip my cap to you if Nicks comes back sooner than I expected because that’s a bomb quatro of WRs.

  11. Hey, Sky, i’m in a 12-team, 2 flex league (one flex can be QB), and I’m picking 6th.

I’ve talked to managers in the league and QBs are going to go early (at least 8 before I pick again in the 2nd – including Eli and Ryan…don’t ask my league is dumb) so I have a shot at Rice, Foster or McCOy at 6…would you succumb and grab a QB early or say, eff it, and load up on rb/wr and try to grab 2 out of Flacco, Freeman, Fitzpatrick and Luck late?

I’m thinking of starting out like:

    Rice
    S-Jax
    Harvin
    Lloyd
    Decker
    Hillis
    Gerhart
    Nate Washington/DHB
    Flacco
    Luck
    etc.

Whaddya think? Or should I try to grab a Romo/Peyton Manning type instead of Decker?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Yeah, Eff it. Don’t join the run if you’re not getting any value from it. If the top 12 QBs are gone before the second round is done, go with steady/upside plays at the position. It will thin your bench but if it plays the way you’re describing, you might have a stab at a top 3 RB and perhaps a top WR or top 2 TE.

Little confused about the Decker statement. So you think Romo and Peyton will be around in the 6th round but Matt Ryan and Eli Manning will be gone before the second round is over? That’s a little weird. If Romo is available at Decker’s spot in the draft, I’d do that as my QB1. Still would try to land two QBs after that in the pool you mentioned.

      • @Sky, my league is all kinds of crazy…Eli is going to get picked #3 because the person picking #3 is an irrational Giants fan. Everyone hates Romo in this league. I grabbed him in the 4th last year, and I think with Austins injury woes and Dez’ personality problems, he could fall to the 5th. I have Decker in the 5th.

yeah, I don’t want to be the last guy in the run, I’d rather switch gears and swoop in for upside later. thanks for the confirmation.

  12. Hey Sky. Thanks for putting the rankings together… Any idea when the next update is coming? Thanks.

in 12 team, ppr, 2qb league, got pick 11…top 3 qbs will be gone, i am not taking newton, wrap around will take qb, is stafford worth p11? also i am imagining with pick 14 i can pick amongst all WRs save megat/fitz, and all RB save top 6…so do i go te: graham or murray/mcfadden?

    • Sky

      Sky says:

I have Stafford ahead of Newton so I don’t see why you wouldn’t take him ahead of Cam. If Graham is there, I wouldn’t fault you though I’d probably go McFadden if he’s there.

    Hello,

First time viewer on the football side of things. Dedicated Razzball fantasy baseball viewer. Going into my baseball draft i have a draft strategy based on hitter/sp/closer based on the round i’m in. Do you have any tips of doing the same for football? Last year i won my 10 team league by drafting in order of rounds. IE-rb-wr-qb-rb-wr-rb-te-def-k-wr-wr-qb-rb-te-def rounds 1-15. Since that worked last year do you think it is a bad idea to try same draft strategy?

    Thanks

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Preferred route this year would be RB/RB/WR/WR/WR/QB/TE assuming you have 3 WRs to start. If the value isn’t there for a good WR in round 5, I’d go with another RB. Then fill my bench the rest of the way until the last rounds for DEF and K. I don’t draft more than one TE or DEF and I don’t select my DEF until the last couple of rounds with my K. I prefer to stream defenses rather than hold onto one, honestly. Usually I can end up with a top 10 defense either by FA or by someone needing to make up for a bye week and dropping a good DEF. Hope that helps.

    • Sky

      Sky says:

Then I’d move another questionable RB up ahead of him like DMC. RB is an ugly thing this year. How much he’s eased we can’t determine right now.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

He was the 5th best TE last year and it was considered a down year. I’m not really stretching things with his ranking this year.

I really like Rudolph this year. Don’t know if he’s top 5 material but I think he’s going to surprise a lot this year. Even wrote a sleeper post about him. If Peyton returns to form, Tamme is one that has a good shot. Cook/Gresham may not have the set up but they have the skill.

  19. Tom says:

hey Sky what are your thoughts on trading Mcgahee for Garcon in a PPR league?

I’m confused as to why you are so down on him in your rankings, (even though he wont be catching a ton of passes, dont you think mannings presence will present opportunity for alot of goal line carries?)

    Heres my team currently:

    WR – Greg Jennings
    WR – Brandon Lloyd
WR- Robert Meachem (worries me a bit)

    RB – Matt Forte
    RB – Darren Sproles

    BN – Mcgahee
    BN – K. Smith
    BN – Rashard Jennings
    BN – Alfred Morris
    BN – Lance Moore
    BN – Danny Amendola

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

You have to believe in Manning for this season, something I’ve said many times that I don’t. Don’t mind McGahee as a 3rd RB, though. With your current WR set up, I don’t think you need to lose McGahee for Garcon. If Meachem flounders, Amendola is a solid PPR play as a WR3. Would rather keep my RB depth.

      • Tom says:
        (link)

@Sky, pull the trigger if their willing to take Kevin Smith, instead?

    Sky,
Wondering on the Chris Johnson higher than McFadden decision. TEN is dead last in fantasy strength of sked this year for RBs and arguably their 0-line is worse than in Oakland.
While Darren is an injury risk certainly, he must have a monster season in him. I’m choosing between the both of them and am really looking for reasons to go either way…

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

They both have their risks/flaws and neither really stand out. My rankings don’t have them really all that separated. If you’re going to twist my arm, I’d go DMC.

  21. Matt P says:

    Sky:

I am in a 14 team keeper PPR league. I am keeping Julio Jones, Matt Forte, and Steven Jackson. I will have the 7th overall pick, do you think I should take a quarterback (Ryan, Romo, Eli, Peyton, RG 3, etc. available), or go with another RB for flex or WR (Fred Jackson, Richardson, Martin, Welker, Steve Smith, Wallace, Brown, Jackson, Maclin, available).

    Thanks!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Your draft is going to tell you who you’ll get to draft. There are 6 teams drafting from that pack before you. I’d want one of those QBs as my QB for the season except for Peyton. If there’s a QB run and one of those other guys are left, I’d bite the bullet and take one. If not, next I’d go Trent/Jackson/Martin in order of want. Probably not drafting a WR there.

      • Matt P says:
        (link)

@Sky, Thanks for the advice! Trent, Jackson, Martin, and Sproles were gone by the time it got to me, but Matty Ice was still there so I grabbed him for my 4th round. Here’s what I ended with:
        QB: Ryan
        WR: Julio Jones
        WR: DeSean Jackson
        WR: DHB
        WR: Mike Williams (TB)
        RB: Forte
        RB: S Jax
        TE: Gresham
        Flex: J Stewart
BN: Gerhardt, Helu, J Simpson, Burleson, Andre Caldwell
        DST: Seattle

I took Gerhardt in the 11th round and Helu in the 14th. I was surprised to see them fall so far and couldn’t pass up on the upside. I was also the last to grab a TE. What do you think?
        Thanks for the help!

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Should be a strong team. Helu/Redskins RBs are going to be a headache but he’s a good player. Getting him late is worth it. Overall, should be a solid team though many would complain it’s not sexy enough. Assuming Forte was your round 1 pick?

          • Matt P says:
            (link)

@Sky, 3 player keeper. I had Lynch, S Jax, Forte, and Julio Jones. Traded for F Jax and gained a 6th and 12th round pick. Let F Jax go and traded Lynch for him because I didn’t want to deal with the suspension.
Not super psyched about Forte, but he was the best option available. The two highest rated players at the start of the draft were Cruz and Trent.
I kind of goofed up the Stewart pick. D Brown was there and I think I should have grabbed him, but the injury risk scared me a little.

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

@Matt P, Ah, gotcha. If you nabbed Forte in the draft in a 3 keeper league, that’s a solid value play actually. J-Stew should be useful. Again sexy vs solid and I have no problem with it.

              • Matt P says:
                (link)

@Sky, Sweet! Thanks… now I feel a little better about that pick. Maybe I’ll get lucky and Gerhardt will get a lot of usage as well. Thanks for the sound fantasy advice!

                • Sky

                  Sky says:
                  (link)

No prob! Gerhart should be really useful to start the season. AP shouldn’t be playing any games straight away. He just started full contact practice this week. Depending on how he starts the season, you might get to sell high on him to the AP owner.

  22. Mike says:
    (link)

I’m in a 16 team PPR keeper league. I’ve been offered Willis McGahee and Deangelo Williams for Ryan Mathews. I’ve also been offered David Wilson, CJ Spiller, and Greg Little for Ryan Mathews. Which one of these deals would you prefer? My current WR are Roddy, jennings, Stevie Johnson and Boldin at flex. I have Mathews and Daniel Thomas at starting RB and a few handcuff types on the bench. Obviously I need RB help and have no RB depth. I see you’re pretty down on Mathews. Which one would you take? Thanks.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I’m down on him due to injury, not skill. I don’t really like either trade, even if you need the depth (and you do). McGahee/Williams aren’t that much better of a 1-2 punch than what you have. I’d hold for now.

      • Mike C. says:
        (link)

@Sky, Thanks for the response. My thinking is if I go into week 1 without Mathews (likely) I’d be forced to start Daniel Thomas and Shane Vareen and/or Brandon Jackson types. That sounds like an automatic loss to me. If Mathews is out until week 4 (a pretty good possibility), I may be staring at an 0-3 start despite my stellar WRs. If I get McGahee and DeAngelo, I can plug them in as starters and feel much better about it than D Thomas and Vereen. Thoughts? In a smaller deal, I can also swap Boldin for Ryan Williams. Thoughts on that one? Thanks for the time.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

The only problem I see with your logic is that you think McGahee/Williams will be enough to get you over that hump and I don’t think they will. So you’d be making a trade away of a very talented yet risky player for what could be very mediocre stats. I think if you’re going to make a move, you need to trade from strength. Find a team that really needs a solid WR and make a move for a reasonable RB in return. That way you’re not diluting your team too much.

    Sky,

I ended up with Murray/Romo combo in a 12 team PPR (Romo was the only one of my top 9 QBs to make it to the R 4/5 turn and I spaced looking over the downside). I am trying to decide if I should shop Murray for Mathews (I know you don’t like his risks) or Lynch who were picked after Murray.

How much of a problem do you think this will be for me to have this RB/QB conflict of interest on TDs?

    Thanks for the advice.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I don’t really worry about those types of things. I wouldn’t mind Lynch, Mathews is already been named to miss game 1 of the season. Love his talent, especially in a PPR league, but not trading for him unless it’s a clear win.

      • iMP says:
        (link)

        @Sky,

Thanks for the reply. I’ll try not to sweat Romo/Murray as I know they are both undervalued by my league and it will be hard to get good value in a trade.

I have a follow up question.

        with

        Foster/Murray/Hillis/R.Williams
        Romo/Locker
        V. Davis
        Jennings/Nicks/Bowe/Young

Do you like my flier on Locker or would you switch to a WR (Britt and TB Mike are best available) off the wire to hold that last spot? I’m not allowed to add an RB.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

So do you not have a bench outside of what you’re showing me? Just clarifying. I like Britt but would rather have QB depth if that’s my only options available. Like your RBs too much to drop either. I’d hold unless I’m not seeing everyone on your team.

Had another thought on conflict picks (like the Murray/Romo one I was worried about).
Are there any conflicts to avoid?
I didn’t have to, but was prepared to, avoid Foster with A Johnson. I’ve also seen opponents stream a DST going against a star player of theirs. Would you dodge either of these situtations?
