Pysche!  You thought I was gonna lead off talking about Le’Veon Bell didn’t you?  Ok, you’re kinda right.  That is what I was implying by the title of the post.  But this is about updated rankings and as I reviewed where I originally had him – RB26 – and I realized I’d have to question my sanity if I dropped him any lower.  I mean, if DMC is RB23, it feels kinda wrong to move Bell any further down without knowing much more about the severity, ya know?  Basically, by staying pat, I’m telling you his value is still in that range for me but I also realize when there’s little information,  fear drives the market price.  If he starts slipping into the role player tiers of guys – behind the Vereens and the Browns – dive in without abandon.  If that scares you, think about this: people willingly draft Darren McFadden with the idea he might actually not play in more then even 14 games on the year and they’ll do it much earlier.  Now keep in mind I’m not telling you to go crazy on this front.  The injury really is a little scary and since he doesn’t have a track record in the NFL we can’t say what we can expect from him if and when he really is healthy.  Again, when dealing with rookies and injuries, it’s always a gut call.  When dealing with rookie injuries, we’re putting the cig in our mouth and telling lady luck to take aim and fire.  There’s danger here but also much promise.  Of course, his injury also affects Isaac Redman as he’s currently named the backup but keep your eye on Dwyer as he was the more interesting of the two last year at points.  But enough about Steelers woe, let’s get on with the show and see how these Razzball Rankings shake out for 2013 Fantasy Football…oh yeah, I pretended to forget.  We’re still doing Razzball Commenter Leagues.  If you’re unfamiliar or unaware, click that link and it will whisk you away to another part of this site that tells you all about it.  Join a league.  Become a Commish.  Dye your hair purple.  We just don’t care, just click on that link.  Alright and with that, we move on…

Does this take into account Sheftter on Gronkowsi? Thinking about grabbing him at the back end of 3rd in a 12 teamer but I am a worried.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Dustin Cook: Last I heard from Adam it was ‘unrealistic to expect Gronk ready for week 1′. Take advantage of the discount is what I’m trying to communicate to you. He went very late in the experts draft I was in. When the smoke clears, I think we’ll all look back at his draft day discount and laugh. But again, take advantage of it.

      • brick says:
        (link)

@Sky: Yeah, I was reading an article saying he would be almost ready for week 1, but the pats wanna take it easy and start him week 3. Still, thats a lot sooner than people think for the #1 or 2 tight end. I’ve had 2 drafts now where I’ve taken him in the 3rd or later and then grabbed someone like myers, pettigrew, or sudfield at the end of the draft to cover the first few weeks.

It looks like He might be the AP of this year, haha!

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Ha, indeed. Yeah, way too much fear surrounding him. He only played what, 11 games last year? Still a top 2 TE. That’s pretty crazy.

  2. One Man Crusade says:
    (link)

We opened up our extended draft last night. Kept from my team were Rodgers/D. Martin/Spiller/Megatron/Fitzgerald/Cobb

    1.1 S-jax
    1.6 Shorts
    2.2 Witten

I struggled at 1.6 with Hilton and Shorts. Ultimately I went with Shorts. I think they both breakout, but Shorts is the clear cut number one and put up good numbers with poor QB play last year……we will see.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@One Man Crusade: Nice. WItten’s steady, probably wouldn’t have gone after him but there’s nothing wrong with him. I think you made the right play on Shorts, though I do think Hilton’s going to surprise anyone who’s getting him as late as his ADP suggests.

      • One Man Crusade says:
        (link)

@Sky: I traded back into the 2nd round and grabbed Hilton

    Thanks Sky!

Do you make these fantasy football spreadsheets downloadable like you do with auction values in baseball? It does not need to have anywhere near (or any) the functionality but just having the lists in excel would be helpful. I am in multiple leagues and would love to be able to download:

    Overall Rankings
    Tiers
    Auction Values

If these are already downloadable and I am an idiot for not being able to figure it out than I apologize but please make sure to speak very slowly when you explain.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Mike: Sorry, no download button on these. I’ve heard you can copy/paste, though, from others. Not sure if that’s true or not.

    • Sniff Test says:
      (link)

@Mike: FYI. I was able to copy and paste special (match destination formatting) each list into Excel.

  4. Brian says:
    (link)

Yo Sky – I already have Spiller and McCoy (thanks for moving him up by the way!). My first pick at number 6 should have Foster, Lynch, Marshall, Dez. Should I fill in the flex with Foster or start filling out my 3 WR spots? .5 PPR and QBs get 6 for throwing TDs and I have 2 second round picks. Not sure if that sways your answer at all.

    Thanks for the help buddy!

    • btd says:
      (link)

@Brian: I’d take Lynch before Foster this year. And Dez before Marshall. When’s your next pick? And what RB/WR’s do you project being there?

      • Brian says:
        (link)

        @btd: @btd:

Lynch over Foster despite PPR? Next looks like Fitzgerals, Andre Johnson, Colston, Roddy White in range. Also McFadden / Murray, hopefully MJD, in play.

I can see Peyton and Brees going end of 1st and early second since they are the best available QBs. Next up Brady, Stafford, Romo, Wilson so I’ll need to hop onto one of them.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

@Brian: I have Lynch over Foster in my rankings and don’t disagree.

          • Brian says:
            (link)

            @Sky: Thanks all!

  5. Bone Smuggler says:
    (link)

Sky, in general, how much do 2 QB leagues affect your rankings? I know the reality of drafting in those leagues that QBs come at a premium and, if you don’t jump, you wind up with Matt Flynn and Josh Freeman.

I’ve read your 2 QB strategy but it’s tough truly square that in terms of draft values.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Bone Smuggler: I assume most of the top QBs (Romo on up) will be gone by the end of the 3rd. I’m willing to draft one QB in the 2nd round and hold my breath for the next wave of QBs. I’d assume it moves the top 12 into the first 3 rounds and then the 4th-8th is probably 13-19 or so. Unless I’m getting a ‘take a chance on romance’ guy in those rounds, I’ll just wait for a couple of lowball plays as my QB2 like Weeden

      • Bone Smuggler says:
        (link)

        @Sky: Great insight, Sky! Thanks!

        • Sky

          Sky says:

No prob, good luck this year!

    • frankgrimes says:
      (link)

@Bone Smuggler:What position are you drafting from? Something you may want to try is grabbing a Big QB1 then getting two lesser QB2a and QB2b and stream them. Helps give you better depth at other positions. This works better in a 10-12 team league. Ive even found this chart to help decide which weeks are best to stream the lesser QBs.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Mattw: Yes and I don’t see him anywhere in my rankings. What am I missing?

      • Keter Ping says:
        (link)

@Sky: He is ranked 58th in the overall rankings.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Must be in standard, his PPR overall ranking is correct. I can’t seem to get that to fix correctly. I’ll see what I can do about it.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Ok, found the issue; they did a site revamp and removed my control over standard overall rankings (don’t ask). I’d go off of my PPR overall for now until I can fix what’s been mucked up via their autorankings.

  7. Mike says:
    (link)

Does the biceps injury issue Cobb has been dealing with concern anybody? Just curious, I like him as a Top 9 WR, and he says he can play through it, but drafting damaged goods isn’t the most ideal situation.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Mike: Football players have nagging injuries all the time. It’s concerning but like you said, top 9 WR. Can’t see a real reason to drop him any lower then where I have him at this point.

  8. Principle Blackman says:
    (link)

I had my first official draft last night. 12-team PPR, I was drafting 7th overall, which for some reason wound up being a tricky position to draft from. I ended up reaching early for Ivory, and I basically punted Tight End, but overall I don’t feel too terrible about my draft overall. This league does not count return yards, so I will probably be dropping Patterson for I don’t know what.

Any and all feedback and advice would be most welcome.

    1 (7) Lynch
    2 (18) MJD
    3 (31) Marques Colston
    4 (42) Chris Ivory
    5 (55) Eric Decker
    6 (66) Ahmad Bradshaw
    7 (79) Matt Stafford
    8 (90) Brian Hartline
    9 (103) Emmanuel Sanders
    10 (114) Kendall Wright
    11 (127) Zac Stacy
    12 (138) Cordarelle Patterson
    13 (151) Jermaine Gresham
    14 (162) Ryan Tannehill
    15 (175) Prater
16 (186) Tampa Bay (streaming D’s all the way)

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

@Principle Blackman: Team looks very solid. I’d probably keep punting your TE there, though. Think there are higher upside guys floating about. Sudfeld? Cameron? Just wondering what your waiver options look like out there. Think you should be shopping. All that said, good RB depth and I like your WRs. Well done!

      • Principle Blackman says:
        (link)

        @Sky:

        Thanks a lot
        .
TE’s are a bit thin on the ww:
Housler, Pettigrew, Julius Thomas, Dwayne Allen, Tyler Eifert, Heath Miller

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

I have Allen/Housler/Eifert in the same tier; like them all for various reasons. I’d give any of them a go over Gresham but probably Allen or Housler moreso. Heath Miller looks like an IR guy that I’d look into if you have the roster space. In the end, I’d rather go for broke at TE unless I have one of the top two.

  9. Scott says:
    (link)

Sky, why the recent drop in Peyton Manning?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Where are you seeing a drop? I have him at 42 and he was 43 before injuries started occurring…

    • Scott says:
      (link)

@Scott: I guess I meant, why do you rate him lower than your fellow experts. I’m seeing him ranked as the 3rd QB off the board in most rankings and you suggest he should be the 8th QB. I know it’s splitting hairs, but I was just wondering why you thought he’d be behind guys like RG3 (coming off ACL), Wilson (not superior receiving group), Ryan (probably topped out last season). Just looking for your insight

      • Sky

        Sky says:
        (link)

@Scott: Because he’s 37 and the three guys I ranked ahead of him that apparently the experts won’t are younger and have running as a part of their game. Wilson had the same support cast last year when he was a top 10 QB down the stretch. RG3’s injury should be just a memory when it actually counts. I put Peyton in the same tier as Ryan. They’re interchangeable.

  10. David says:

    No Montee Ball?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

If he can’t protect in pass pro, I can’t justify drafting him.

  11. Bill S. Preston, Esq. says:
    (link)

Did you update any projections, or just the basic rankings? My league does 0.5ppr, so I use the projections to make my own rankings. Also, do you recommend any place that is accurate with kick/punt returner information?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

At this time of year, I’m just scrambling to make sure I get my rankings out so I haven’t really been able to update any numbers, sadly.

I don’t have any info on that area, sadly.

    • goodfold2 says:
      (link)

@Bill S. Preston, Esq.: i’m going into that stuff myself as my main league has return yards equal to scrimmage yards so guys like cobb/harvin (last year) were pretty much top 5 non-QB players. I will likely be drafting cobb at 12th or 13th out of 12 teams, if he’s still doing returns. Hilton would also move up to like 10th WR or better if still doing returns. KFFL used to have pretty good team charts for this. Other than that search deep from googling it.

  12. Alky Sobrera says:
    (link)

Overall martin is ahead of AP, but in RBs AP is 1st.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Is that in the standard? I’m having a hard time getting that side to function properly and I can’t tell why.

      • Jack Full O' Hate says:
        (link)

@Sky: thats in the RB tab, not the overall.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Alright, I think I have it updated; might take a bit but the fix is in. Thanks!

  13. Jack Full O' Hate says:
    (link)

would you grab Redman and drop Dobson or Keenan Allen?

  14. Eric says:
    (link)

Hey Sky, thanks for your rankings. I used them as a foundation for my own rankings with some tweaks. I was wondering if I could get a little feedback on my team? 12 team yahoo point system.

    QB: Russell Wilson
    QB: Matt Ryan
    WR: Stevie Johnson
    WR: Emmanuel Sanders
    RB: Trent Richardson
    RB: Matt Forte
    TE: Jermichael Finley
    W/T: Michael Floyd
    W/R: Chris Ivory
    W/R/T: Daryl Richardson
    Bench: Rob Gronkowski
    Bench: Brian Hartline
    Bench: Greg Little
    Bench: Julian Edelman
    Bench: Kendall Wright
    Bench: Alshon Jeffery
    Bench: Daniel Thomas
    Kicker: David Akers
    DEF: STREAMING

So what I tried to do was make sure I had two top QBs (By the end people were fighting over Locker) and made sure to fill my flex positions with solid RBs for the most part. Then did what I could with the WR situation going for upside. What do you think?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

That’s a nice team for a 2QB league with those two as your QBs and the RBs you have around them. When Gronk comes back, you’re in a good spot. Nice work on your bench WRs to make up for not having those big name guys in your starting lineup. This team looks like it’s going to be very competitive. Nice work!

      • Eric says:
        (link)

        @Sky:

Thanks! So I might have the option of trading…

        1)
        Matt Ryan + Stevie Johnson
        for
        Michael Vick + Randall Cob

        then I’m planning on flipping

Michael Vick + Mid WR (Sanders?)
        for
        Dez Bryant + Palmer

And I was wondering what you thought of just the 1st trade by itself and then maybe overall? I would basically be downgrading my QB to really upgrade my WRs I’m thinking.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

I’d rather take a chance on the WRs you drafted and see what you have. Give it a few weeks before you consider any trades would be my advice.

    • FrankGrimes says:
      (link)

      @Eric: trade a QB for a WR

      • FrankGrimes says:
        (link)

Haha, I don’t have HBO/cable so no. But now Ima google Gio GF…the hype train’s worrying me a bit with him. Always about draft day value, he’s starting to get into nosebleed territory for me.

      • FrankGrimes says:
        (link)

@Sky: I know pissing me off too but he getting receptions goal line work and staying in to pass block so maybe the hype is warranted

          Sky says:

I sure hope so. Drafted him in my auction draft in July for like $8. Just worried that steady BJGE will be annoying for us Gio owners all year.

                  • Jack Full of Hate says:
                    (link)

@Sky: I won’t have anything ready for at least a couple of weeks. The first week of the season is pretty much pointless, IMO. After that, I feel I will need to make something up and have you look it over and approve the format. I’m coming to the game late and have some work to do to make this relevant and usable. That’s just my take on it. I have run it by a few of my fantasy friends and they are all into the idea…simple but quick on the fly…like my sex life :( ….I have no sex life :( …..with other people in the room :(

Just keep in touch and start your google doc. Think it would be wise to get you set up so you can play around in wordpress a bit to familiarize yourself.

Better for readers, they know who they’re talking to from week to week. Of course, if you wanna be incognito, that’s the best way to do it but either way it’s your choice.

Yeah email me the following things:

                      1) What email you want to use

                      2) an attachment of your avatar

                      3) What you want your user/author name to be

Sky! Do you have any “Tiers” rules, i.e. if you draft a QB aka Tom Brady from the 2nd Tier, look to grab a QB in the 6th Tier (i.e. Eli Manning)? Or if you draft a WR from the 2nd Tier, look to draft a WR from the 6/7th Tier and 9-12th Tier? Kind of like Grey does for his pitching draft strategy? I understand this is a tad harder for football.

    Thanks!

That’s a good idea, actually. I don’t have anything like that but I could do it. My QB stance would be if you have a top 12 guy, you don’t need a back up in 1 QB leagues, though. I’ll see if I can craft something for the WR side of things.

@Sky: Sounds good, Sky. Sorry to give you more work! I was trying to reason through it myself, but it’s tough, especially in my league (where I only need 1 WR) bc a guy like D-Richardson could give me more consistent points per week over Jordy Nelson, and Nelson is going 2-3 rounds ahead of him. Normally, though, I would say take a top 4 tier guy, and perhaps, mirror the tier your of your 1st pick for your 2nd WR… i.e. if you take Brandon Marshall in Tier 2, your next WR could come in Tier 7, or Julio Jones in Tier 3, your next WR would be in Tier 6. It’s harder to correlate it to rounds tho. Anyway, I’m looking forward to your thoughts on this.

        Thanks!

I have the 4th overall pick. I figured I would just take the rookie RB who fell to me (Gio, Lacy, Ball, Bell), or DeAndre Hopkins, but someone foolishly threw back Pierre Garcon.

Do I invest in a rookie or go with Garcon, who I think could have a huge year?

  26. DiRo says:
    (link)

I think Ridley will lose some looks to Vereeniging but man do you have him low, especially considering some if the guys you have right above him.

I can and will never trust A Johnson again, just have to vent about this every year, haha.

I am really surprised by you Ryan and Peyton rankings considering where you have RG3. You think RG3 can bring back the rushing yards\TD value he had last year?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

With Bolden back in the mix, I think there should be some caution drafting Ridley when you consider a large part of his value was his TDs. Since he’s not a PPR guy, I think him and Vereen will be compatible backfield partners but Bolden might sting a bit for Ridley owners. Just my take.

I didn’t trust him at all last year. Got blasted for ranking him as the 8th best WR then. Even after a monster 2nd half, he came pretty close to where I had him. He won’t be on any of my teams this year for sure.

I think RGIII will be back to his old tricks before long. Huge part of his value to his team is his legs. They can’t take that away or they lose a lot of what he has to offer.

      • DiRo says:
        (link)

@Sky: Why are you are you so low on James Jones and Anquan Boldin?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

I don’t trust Jones. Most of his points were on TDs last year. Can’t remember the percentage but I think close to 40% of his production was from them and he’s still the third guy in line in GB. Just don’t trust it without the other supporting stats (rec/yards) to back it up. Boldin is just ok in my book. I don’t think he’s going to be as steady as people are thinking he’ll be. He’ll be a WR3 at best but is going to get drafted like he’s a safe play. Where he’s going, I’d rather take someone with upside to outperform their ADP. But that’s just how I view my WR3s in general. Most are interchangeable, would rather take a shot at someone playing above that level.

          • DiRo says:
            (link)

@Sky: I can dig on that. I am looking at Amendola as WR 2 option. What’s your over under for him getting hurt? I think even if he plays 10-12 games he could put up good numbers.

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

His injuries have been too fluky to bank on him being seriously hurt. He’s not Hakeem Nicks who has nagging injuries. Not many people pop their shoulder out of socket. If he gets hurt again, I’ll label him as just snake-bitten and move on from him. I think he plays minimum 14.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Depends who I’m stashing him over. I think the guys to own there are Amendola/Sudfeld/Gronk. There’s been a lot of yo-yoing with the value of Dobson and Thomkins up to this point. Don’t think it’s a situation I want to really get involved with unless it’s a deep league.

      • Fungazi says:
        (link)

@Sky: It’s just a standard league. Like most, I’m trying to find a few lottery tickets to stash late and I look for backup RBs to 30+ year old first stringers or WRs in situations where there’s been some major change, like Denver last year.

I’m figuring if Brady’s going to get 35 TDs and his TE gets 10ish, then there’s a bunch coming to one or more WRs.

          Sky says:

Understandable, just think recent history suggests most of those 35 are gonna go to Vereen/Gronk/Dola/Sudfeld. There’s always some buzz in NE about that WR2 and they rarely come to fruition.

Team looks reasonable. Your RBs might struggle with consistency and you’re a bit thin there with only 3 startable ones a week. Not sure I have much faith in Greene/Harris as being useful. Looks like that’s where your WR set up came from. AJ/Cobb/Cruz/Wayne feels like overkill. You also drafted backup QB/TE, not something I would do in a 12 team or smaller league. Like I said, your team looks decent but you’ll need for Knowshon to land the starting job – nice gamble there, BTW – and for some injuries to lead to you getting another starting back.

@Blake: PS, if you could, we’re putting out daily content and this post is about 2 weeks old. Makes it much easier if you could try and comment on a more recent post. Thanks.

@Blake: Your WRs are fine but yeah, you didn’t need to draft 2 QBs. Hopefully one of them goes off and you can trade either/or. Team looks fine, little shaky on the bench in terms of upside at WR (Hill or Streater would’ve been better; both play for terrible O’s). Jared Cook should be a nice get at TE. Very underrated this year. Solid job overall.

Very solid looking team. Like your bench. If Eifert takes off like he could, you’re gonna be in a great position. I’m assuming their are roster restrictions, hence the bench Kicker.

@Sky: Thanks Sky… I’m unaware of bench restrictions. So I guess you are indicating I shouldn’t have a bench kicker. I see the logic in that. Is there a bench position I should be picking up instead of owning a kicker?

RB or WR. Skill positions are what you want your bench filled with
