Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

Ah, the first is always the worst, especially when you consider I want to get these out before the first game of the season…which is on a Wednesday.  Needless to say, there are question marks up and down my rankings at this time.  You’ll notice Adrian Peterson and Maurice Jones-Drew floating around the middle of my RB rankings because we just don’t know what to get from either.  My gut tells me AP won’t play, my heart tells me he will and my anus is telling me to stop eating so many jalapenos.  Sometimes my body parts give a little TMI; my apologies.  Meanwhile, MJD is being tabbed as the 3rd down back.  I personally think this is a bit of hot air and we see him slowly taking over the majority of touches by the second quarter but honestly, I have no clue, hence the title of the post.  Overall, I’m with Loudon’s call this week in calling for a Michael Bush flex play.  Considering I’m drafting him almost everywhere, I’m going to look for any reason I can get to believe.  Meanwhile, on the QB side of things I have Jake Locker leaping up to 16 where he’s sniffing the backside of Peyton Manning in his match up against the Steelers.  Both Locker and Russell Wilson present intriguing two QB options this week as Locker might be throwing against a 21-0 deficit by the first quarter and Wilson has a team in the Cardinals who are…well, they’re just not really good.  Meanwhile, there’s not much to like about Peyton’s matchup.  Yes, I know you drafted him as your QB1 but if you have a better play on your bench, I’d encourage you save yourself the butthurt and bench him if you can.  On the WR side of things, I have Pierre Garcon slipping up into a low WR2 role this week, namely because the Redskins could be down big and early.  Only way to catch up is to fling that puppy and I’m pretty sure said flinging will be happening.  So without further jibber to the jabber, here’s how Week 1 looks for me:

How much do you think I should rely on Rashad Jennings this week? Should I put him in my rb/wr spot or go with one of my other wr’s like Desean Jackson Jeremy Maclin or Reggie Wayne?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

That’s tough, that’s a murky situation for sure. I don’t have faith in either back to start the year. I’d lean DeSean.

  2. CL says:
    (link)

The “FLEX” tab above doesn’t seem to work?

12 team, 1pt PPR: Is Dwyer a flex play, or do I get Crabtree in there? I’m currently starting Titus Young over Crabtree for the time being, you dig? Who gets the bench of these 3?

    It’s on!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Not surprised, there were some issues getting the Flex working just for me to add players to it. I’ll let them know, thanks for the heads up!

      I’d go Crabtree.

      • CL says:
        (link)

@Sky, sorry… start Crabtree in flex?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

I said ‘I’d go Crabtree’. Did I miss a part of the question? Sorry if I did, let me know.

  3. J says:
    (link)

^Flex tab doesn’t work for me either.

Speaking of – Garcon or Ridley @ Flex? No PPR.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Yeah, not working for anyone I’d imagine; something on fantasypros end I’ll have to ask about. I’d go Ridley.

  4. Alvaro says:
    (link)

Cant get the FLEX tab either

would yo go Ingram or Meachem?

    thanks

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      Ingram

  5. Nico says:
    (link)

Can you explain why you’re so high on Mike Wallace, with little practice with a new playbook and lining up against Champ Bailey this week? I figured he’d be in the teens this week but was shocked to see you had him as the 3rd best WR. I need to decide between him and Bowe.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Still think they’ll get things together. I understand the new playbook but they’re going no huddle. Speeds up the offense, gives more opportunities. If you’re worried, I’d go Bowe. You’ll get a steady but perhaps underwhelming line. Wouldn’t hate you for it.

  6. Thin@WR says:
    (link)

I have Dwayne Harris sitting on my bench in anticipation of an inevitable Miles Austin injury later in the season. Given that Witten is out for week 1, Austin is just starting full practices again (but is supposedly fully healthy) and Dez has a bad knee (but again is supposedly fully healthy), does Harris have any value this week over, say, Randall Cobb or Nate Washington? I’d like to believe that he’s the new Laurent Robbinson, but…

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Right now I’d say no. I’d play either guy over Harris right now.

  7. The Wickler says:
    (link)

You seem awfully high on Trent Richardson, care to elaborate? I’m having a difficult time deciding between him, Toby Gerhart, AP and Rashad.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

By comparison to those other three, he’s actually almost a solid play. I wish we could do weekly rankings a bit closer to the end of the week so as to clear of some question marks. Looking now at some of the Minny reports, I’m thinking Toby would’ve been much higher. Thanks NFL for a Wednesday night game! Seriously, though, with the news, I might lean Gerhart there.

  8. Captain Kirk says:
    (link)

    @sky

Rankings aside, in a ppr league would you go with Rashad Jennings or Stevan Ridley this week?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Hrm, PPR with Ridley is tough. I’d probably lean Ridley.

  9. Principle Blackman says:
    (link)

In my 2QB points per reception/rush attempt, return yardage league I’ve been offered Ben Roethlisberger and Ben Tate or Roy Helu for my Marshawn Lynch and Matt Cassel or Carson Palmer. If I made the trade my QBs would be Stafford and Big Ben, and my RBs would be Jamaal Charles, Bradshaw, Greene, K. Hunter and one of Tate/Helu.

If I took the deal I think I would probably want Tate over Helu, right? But then he would probably want Palmer over Cassel.

Is this a good deal, or would I be hamstringing myself at the RB position?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I don’t think that move helps you but if you’re going to take it, I’d go Tate.

  10. Ben says:
    (link)

Man… everyone is crazy down on Tony Gonzalez to start the season. I drafted him and Fred Davis in a PPR league and I just can’t start Davis over Gonzo. Shanahan is crazy and I don’t trust crazy until I get to see a game or two of it.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

He’s RB crazy, don’t think that bleeds over to TE. I like Tony but go look what Fred Davis did in 12 games last year. He is a potential breakout candidate

  11. Ronkonkoma says:
    (link)

With Steve Johnson at the Revis Island resort, would you rather go with Davon Bess @ HOU or E. Sanders @ DEN this week at my WR3?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I could see Bess there in a PPR

      • Ronkonkoma says:
        (link)

        @Sky, Sorry it’s a non-ppr. Still Bess?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

You’re in a tough spot. Johnson, though results overall might not be pretty

  12. Jay

    jaywrong says:

I want more information of and around your anus.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

You’ll have plenty of inspection time looking up at it in our writers league :)

  13. Jack Full of Hate says:
    (link)

who would you rather have as a back-up to Foster and Bush – Mendenhall, Martin or Ridley?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      Gotta go Doug there

      • Jack Full of Hate says:
        (link)

@Sky, I dropped Meachem and picked up Mendenhall. There are a lot of WR’s to wtch and I don’t want to be married to too many. I have Harvin, Antonio Brown, Amendola, DeSean Jackson, and Britt. And we play return yards. So I’m good.

I havent seen any IDP articles, I am missing them. We play that too and my dumb ass drafted Desmond Bishop. Oops on that, I fortunately had Mayo as a back-up and picked up Dansby.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

We’re trying to get our IDP guy up and running. He had a lot going on so hope to have something up to start tomorrow.

  14. Jack Full of Hate says:
    (link)

I know you had the sleeper post, but does Meachem deserve to be stashed in an 8 teams ppr with only 5 bench spots?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

8 team I don’t think you need to pick him up. Just keep your eye on him

  15. Mike says:
    (link)

Kendall wright is on waivers…..do u like him over Lafeil for the year?
Wondering if I should pick him up before season starts…
Or do u like Wright over Lance Moore as well?
Both guys r on my bench

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I’m not big on rookie wideouts, I’d hold for now. Just keep your eye on him. Washington and Britt are good WRs.

  16. Jack Full of Hate says:
    (link)

and for my third and final question, would crabtree be a better fit for PPR lags than DeSean or Amendola?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Amendola is an underrated PPR stud. I’d rank him near Crabtree in those terms. DeSean is still a top play in WR terms, he just might not be as consistent week to week

      • Jack Full of Hate says:
        (link)

@Sky, I’m trying to move DeSean to an Egle nut in my league, he auto-drafted and got Green, Jones, Fitzgerald, Lloyd and Garcon. But has garbage backs, I’m going to try and package DeSean with a RB for one of his recievers.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Still like the consistency of Fitz, if you’re asking my opinion

          • Jack Full of Hate says:
            (link)

@Sky, asked or not, always give your opinion, I appreciate that. There is nothing worse than leaving me to my differing fantasy personalities to slug it out.

            • Sky

              Sky says:
              (link)

Ha well glad I could help then!

  17. McClapYoHandz says:
    (link)

Could use your advice for a flex start between Benson, Ronnie Brown, Ben Tate, and Quizz Rodgers. Thanks!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      I’d lean Rodgers there

  18. HotRod says:
    (link)

6 point all TD’s, PPR. We have a QB position & an OP position, where you can start any offensive player, including QB.

At QB 1 – Flacco, Locker or Freeman?

At OP – one of the 2 leftover QB’s you didnt chose above or J Charles??

I couldnt pass on J Charles in 3rd round after drafting MCFadden & Forte in 1st & 2nd….

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      I’d go flaco and locker.

  19. John says:
    (link)

Reggie Bush or Bradshaw? PPR, yardage is worth 2x standard scoring (i.e. all purpose backs are the shit)

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      Bradshaw

  20. Mike says:
    (link)

Do you know any sites that analyze trades?

Donald Brown or Reggie Wayne in a 12 team Non PPR?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I’d go with Brown. Not sure what you mean about sites

  21. B.o.B says:
    (link)

I have the Giants defense but really don’t like the week 1 matchup against the Cowboys. Buffalo (@ NYJ) is available on waivers, should I drop Greg Little, Jacquizz Rodgers, Roy Helu, or even the Giants for Buffalo?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Just realize this same dilemma will come up again week 8. I’m all for rotating defenses throughout the course of the season, exploiting matchups. If you’re not, I could see dropping Little for a DEF

  22. hey sky, I got a decision to make:

my league has 2 flexes, I can start 2 qbs. My QBs are Flacco and Locker…pick 2:

    Locker (NE)
    Nate Washington (NE)
    Desean (@Cle)
    MJD (@Min)

I’m leaning towards Locker and Nate…I don’t trust Desean against a solid Cleveland secondary (Haden should play) and MJD is going to need a week or two to get ready. Plus, NE’s secondary isn’t the strongest…what do you think?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Yeah, locker and Nate are the safest, id go with them

  23. Jacob Tamme says:
    (link)

Am I worth a start in a standard 12 team league when Rudolph, Olsen, and Keller are on waivers?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Nah, I’d lean Rudolph then Olsen

  24. Chris says:
    (link)

Do I play Miles Austin tonight or do play DeAngelo Williams and hope that Stewart doesn’t play? Standard league.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Go with the devil you know. Austin is on for tonight so go with him

      • Chris says:
        (link)

        @Sky, Thanks

  25. Mike says:
    (link)

Drop Lafeil or lance Moore to pickup Ogletree??
    Another Laurent Robinson ?
    Thanks

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      I’d hold.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      I’d hold

  26. Rob says:
    (link)

Who should I start at Flex? Pierre Garçon, Michael Crabtree, Steven Ridley, Pierre Thomas, or Darren Sproles?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

      Sproles

      • Rob says:
        (link)

        @Sky, Thanks for the input.

I’ll most likely start Sproles over Ridley and Garçon. I have Jimmy Graham at TE as well so I’m hoping the Saints do well.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Glad to help. They worked fine together last year. You should be fine.

  27. Rob says:
    (link)

I’m also starting Deangelo Williams at RB. Perhaps I can bench him and free up space for Ridley, Thomas, or Sproles to come in at back and then have an open slot for Flex. Would it be a good idea to Williams for any of these players?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Depends on Stewart’s status on Sunday. I’d hold until I knew more about that before I changed out Williams.

  28. iMP says:
    (link)

Is the Mendenhall buzz starting to tickle you at all?
I don’t know enough about him or backs returning from ACL blowouts to know when I’ve seen enough to know that he would be worth dropping R. Williams to be my PPR RB4.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Not really. He still had major surgery in the off-season. Though I am surprised they didn’t keep him on the PUP list, I do believe if he’d stayed he wouldn’t be able to play until the 7th game. Maybe they believe he’ll be ready to start playing by the 6th game. In the end, that backfield really is a mess. If they’re 5-1 and their running game is working, I’d be hardpressed to believe he takes on a significant role until someone falters.

  29. Steven says:
    (link)

Do you think marshawn lynch goes this week?
If he does Michael bush or Antonio brown in flex?
If he doesn’t Shonn Greene or Antonio brown in flex?

    Thanks

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Tough call, I’m leaning no at the moment. Bush/Brown.

      • Steven says:
        (link)

        @Sky,
        Thanks-One more question
A limited Marshawn Lynch or a healthy Michael Bush?

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Depends on how limited he is. I’d hold my breath until sunday but right now I’d lean bush

  30. Frankelstache says:
    (link)

    Thanks for the read!
    I’m in a 2 rb, 3wr and a flex league.

I got WRs down, but issues with Rb and flex…cj1k is set, but then I got Toby Gerhardt, MJD and the law firm..who would you go with as your 2nd/flex or both? Another option for my flex is a TE – Greg Olsen (J. Finley is the starting TE) if you think I should only go with one RB next to cj.

    Thanks!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I’d lean Gerhart and MJD…MJD is the ‘3rd down back’ but I think they’re just trying to prove a point to him for sitting out. If the game is tight, he’ll have a chance for more touches. Don’t believe AP is going to be playing this Sunday, Gerhart should be a solid RB2.

  31. Hayden Jones says:
    (link)

I have Peyton Manning starting and Andy Dalton and Jake Locker on my bench. I can only start one and I am honestly leaning towards locker. For all I know peyton could get sacked and sit out the rest of the game. i know it’s risky but I feel as though jake locker has a much more favorable matchup. I will almost definitely get rid of andy dalton

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I actually don’t mind Jake Locker’s matchup. All three have their warts but I think he has the most potential out of the three to put up big numbers. Don’t rid yourself of Dalton unless it’s via trade.
