Don't be shellfish...Tweet about this on TwitterShare on FacebookShare on Google+Share on Reddit

To be honest, I have a lot of QBs I could make a lead for this little weekly ranking ditty.  I just happened to highlight Christian Ponder because his name is easy to pun with.  Some take the high road, others take the low road, meanwhile I just wanna set things to cruise down easy street sometimes.  Don’t worry, I’m an excellent driver.  The reason for all this QB madness?  It’s a perfect storm of bad matchups for high ranking guys, good matchups for low ranking guys and an injury to Robert Griffin, III that leaves me doubting him for week 6.  My top ten QBs has more controversy in it than a Howard Stern show from the 90’s.  Everyone will be talking about it around the water cooler.  Well, you and a friend who doesn’t read this site, of course.  It will be a fun conversation.  Needless to say, I like some guys this week more than others.  Do I like the idea of Matthew Stafford 14th?  No, but I also think the Eagles proved they could shut down even an efficient Big Ben who tossed for 207 and scored nothing.  Stafford has not been looking good this year and I don’t think Philly will do him any favors this week.  In other forms of controversy…well, I don’t think I really have any at this time.  Maybe Reggie Bush is higher on my list than others but while people have adapted to Trent Richardson being a top 10 back, people have avoided that idea with Bush.  I can’t explain it and it’s not my job to.  I have him 6th versus a mediocre STL defense.  Then there’s DeSean Jackson.  Apparently I just can’t quit this man.  Tough week against the Steelers defense last week and still turned out 4 recs for 58.  I’m keeping the faith vs a Lions defense that has not been very impressive this season.  Other than that, pretty much business as usual so with that, on with the rankings…oh now, that would be a lie because today I have two things.  First off, I’m still in those pesky meetings I’ve been mentioning all week.  I informed my supervisor that these were really impeding on my fantasy football life but they looked at me like I didn’t want a paycheck anymore.  I didn’t like that look and changed my mind.  So I will get back with your comments as soon as possible but will be very limited in access all day.  If you have start/sit questions for tonight’s game, I’ll do my best to get to them, just realize duty calls.  Secondly, we have two winners from our giveaway of The League, Season Three in conjunction with ThinkJam.  I evaluated it as such.  If you placed a guy that was not in the top 10, I gave you negative 10 points.  If you placed a guy in the top 10 and he was truly, I gave you 5.  If you hit the nail on the head and actually ranked a guy not just in the top ten but at his actual spot in the rankings for the week, I gave you a plus 10.  So with those rules out of the way, the two winners this week are jdbus and TheRealTaz as they both got 7 out of 10 while also getting at least one person (Rivers and Peyton, respectively) spot on.  Hopefully we get that stuff out to you in the mail shortly.  And even though there’s no consolation prize, I did want to give a shout out to my man S-Quire for actually nailing three guys in their spots with Brees, Rodgers, and Eli.  Unfortunately it just wasn’t enough to overcome 5 guys not in the top 10.  Ok now with that we really get on with our rankings.

my te t gonz v davis
my wr fitz dez bryant colston desean jackson

his other wr are welker demayius thomas garcon cruz l moore
i should try for thomas or welker right? with gonzalez

also really roethlisberger over brady cause thats my conundrum at QB this week

      Sky says:
      (link)

You’re paying too much to get Jordy with that trade; he’s a buy low, the owner shouldn’t be getting a top 5 TE in return for a guy not even in the top 30 at his own.

      • barker says:
        (link)

@Sky, yea its tough trading in this league and my only chips are the TEs realistically… on a lighter note CJ0k over V davis in the flex

        and really roethlisberger?lol

Surprised you have Luck so high against the Jets? most rankings I have seen have Luck lower than your boy Ponder. I got Luck and Wayne so this makes me giddy….

on a side note, am I crazy to bench Ridley for the scrub of the week William Powell?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Yeah, it might come back to haunt me but Indy has not been good moving the ball on the ground this year and without Revis, I still think Luck has a good week.

I wouldn’t call you crazy but I don’t know if Powell is in a better spot to perform with LaRod back around.

What is your thought on ranking D. Moore ahead of Crabtree? Do you think that Moore will still get a significant amount of targets with DHB back in action?

    Thanks!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I think DHB gets eased back in considering the nature of the injury.

My keeper league is in an absolute uproar over a couple trades I have made. I’m 0-5, so I started sending out offers that included my best players for high draft picks next season.
I ended up dealing away D. Murray, M. Wallace, and A. Bradshaw (and my 15th, 16th, and 17th round picks) to acquire 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks for next year’s draft. In a separate trade, I dealt away Reggie Bush (and my 13th round pick) for a 2nd round pick in next year’s draft.
This is the sixth year of the league. One team has officially quit and is in full sabotage mode, as he’s begun dropping and trading away his best players (the commissioner has stepped in, fixed things, and locked him out). Another team has vowed that he will not return next season.
While, I’d like to keep the league intact, I don’t see any issue with either of these trades, and neither does the commissioner. I’d love to get some feedback from you guys, as I’m obviously partial.

In my baseball keeper league, we’ve used the term ‘integrity of the league’ when trades like this come up. Are they fair trades? Sure. But if you think about it this way, every year a team is not going to compete, should 1 team benefit that much from it? I wouldn’t quit the league over it seeing as it’s fair but I as a person who was fighting for a playoff spot would feel pretty worthless about my team if one of the rich teams just got richer for the year. If those players were spread more evenly across the league, I don’t think there’d be as much of an issue. Again, it’s fair and I wouldn’t say they have to be revoked but there’s something to be said for keeping in the back of your mind the idea of integrity of the league when those types of trades come about.

  5. Benny says:
    (link)

Do you think Fred Jackson will continue to be in a 50/50 timeshare thus limiting is value all year? I don’t want to trade him considering I’d get considerably less than than what I would’ve thought based on where I drafted him, but I need to make a move for a WR and have Foster, Morris, Leshoure, and Ballard as my other RBs.

    1pt PPR, return yards…

Do you like Kendal Wright or Jaquizz Rodgers for flex this week?

    Thanks.

    • Sky

      Sky says:

with return yards, Rodgers gives you a good all around shot. I’d lean his way.

  7. robert says:

In a two QB league I am trying to get the winless team to trade me Rodgers. What combo would be fair to offer?: RG3, Ponder, Doug Martin, DeMarco Murray.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

To be fair, if their team is 0-5, they aren’t making the playoffs. Unless this is a keeper league, I don’t see a trade they’re going to make. RGIII for Rodgers straight up is fair.

      Ridley…grudgingly.

Who do you like more and why? Rudolph or Miller at TE?

    • Sky

  12. Brian says:
    (link)

Wow, why is Megatron so low on PPR? He’s playing the Eagles, who aren’t exactly a shut-down D. And Randall Cobb right above him? Does he even get on the field with every snap?

    • Sky

      Sky says:

    Thanks, Sky.

Would you go with Fred Jackson or Vic Ballard this weekend? I saw your ranking, of course, though still uncertain. I can also play both and bench Brandon Lloyd as my flex.

Last but not least (as a flex option) i have Meachem. I like Meachem because Champ will take on Floyd. But then again he’s inconsistent, and Tracy Porter played with him in NOLA so I worry he’s got his number.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks again!

      (ppr)

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

I’d look at them as almost in a tier of sorts. I could see going either way but Ballard probably has the biggest shot at consistent touches and a far less daunting matchup. I’d just bench F-Jax.

I’d just roll with Lloyd if we’re talking about the same flex.

      • Bermingham says:
        (link)

        @Sky, Thanks!

  14. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

Would you be comfortable cutting bait with either Ingram, J. Rodgers or Hunter for Best? 12 team non-PPR, bonus at 100 yds, start 2 RB, no flex. I like Best as a stash but would have to drop another RB to pick him up. I’m pretty fed up with Ingram, but that said he’s probably still my best bye week replacement option for weeks 7 (@ TB) and 8 (@ DEN).

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Well, I think Ingram’s numbers speak for themselves. I didn’t like him coming into the season and I really don’t like him now. I’d roll him out for Best.

  15. Nico says:
    (link)

Would you trade Antonio Brown for Big Ben in a .5 PPR? I would be left with Larry Fitzgerald, Brandon Marshall, Michael Crabtree, Danny Amendola, and James Jones for 3 spots, and I have Andy Dalton as my only other QB. Thanks!

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Yeah, sure. I have no problem with that trade.

  16. The Vaporizers says:
    (link)

I’ve been proposed a trade in one of my leagues that I have been pondering for a couple of days.

I wanted Julio Jones on all my teams this year. Long story short, I ended up with him on zero of my 3 teams.

I was just offered a deal of Julio for Percy straight up. Two weeks ago, I would have accepted in a heart beat. However, the fact that the Falcons are undefeated and that Ryan is my QB, I am nervous about them sitting their stars come week 16 if they have the #1 seed clinched which would kill my chances at fantasy gold. Plus Harvin is the clear cut #1 guy in Minnesota while Julio and Roddy have been 1a and 1b.

What do you do here? Hang on to Percy or get some Julio? I have been leaning toward staying put

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Love when that happens. I’ve had a love jones for Matt Ryan all off-season and never got him anywhere.

I’d hang with Percy for the consistency factor. Julio has literally gone from WR1 to nearly not startable back to WR1 nearly every week this year.

      • Murph says:
        (link)

        @Sky,

Is there a pattern here or just coincidence? Its like the falcons passing attack is so good they can say ok Fantasy Football nation Roddy gets the points for home games and Julio gets the points for away games.

        Roddy White
        away KC 87yds
home DEN 102 yds 1 TD
        away SD 55 yrds
home CAR 169 yrds 2 TD
        away WASH 68 yrds

        Julio Jones
        away KC 108 yds 2TD
        home DEN 14 yds
away SD 67 yds 1 TD
        home CAR 30 yds
away WASH 94 yds 1 TD

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

@Murph, Ha, interesting theory but I’d need to see a longer history before I start considering it. And even there, you’ve pointed out how inconsistent Julio is and how reliable Roddy is with those. Worst game in a non-PPR from Roddy is a 5.5 pt effort while Julio has dropped a 1.4 stinker. Painful.

          • Murph says:
            (link)

            @Sky,

I know far fetched but really interesting to look at. I have always seen Roddy as the top target…thank you espn for over hyping Julio and allowing me to get Roddy in the 5th round this year!!!

I’ll be pulling for CJ hope he can get going tonight for you and good luck this weekend.

You got him in the 5th round? That’s insane! I had him as a WR1 along with Jones still. Did ESPN rank him that low?

Thanks Murph…I’m truly going to need it.

Having some RB issues this week due to bye weeks. Need to start two of these three srubs. Please pick the two:

    1. Stephens-Howling
    2. Bilal Powell
    3. Kendall Hunter

Standard League no PPR. I’m leaning to Powell and Hunter after reading LSH will only play on passing downs.

    THank you!

@Sky Add Draughn to those 3 as well. So pick 2 of the 4. Thanks!

I’m a bigger LaRod fan than most. I’d go him and Hunter, personally but I just have dreams of last season dancing in my head.

  18. Rags says:
    (link)

How much of James Jones’s ranking reflects uncertainty with whether Jennings will go or not?

I was trying to decide between an allegedly healthy Britt (rotoworld likes him as a WR3, even against PIT) and Jones. But you have Hartline above either of them? Hasn’t StL’s D been not bad?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

For me, I just don’t trust Jones. He finds ways to disappear when there really shouldn’t be a reason for him to. That’s why I have him down near Cobb whom I think has a better chance at consistency in Jennings’ wake.

STL is fine, it’s more about the consistency of touches there. GB has multiple targets and I think you’ll even see more RB passes this week. Plus HOU is one of the top DEF teams period so you have to put that into the equation. Britt has not shown he’s healthy enough to count on from week to week as of right now. He went from 11 targets to barely not playing. Hard to gauge on a weekly basis.

  19. 1-4 heading into this week, need to win obviously.

Really struggling w WR’s (Andre Johnson in particular).

    PPR – pick 2

Andre Johnson, M. Floyd, A. Hawkins, Denarius Moore, K Wright.

Leaning 1st 2 but can’t afford another WEAK effort by A. Johnson & am strongly considering Hawkins (weak Clev D, Haden back help or hurt Bengal WR2?) or Moore (going to be behind & have to throw a lot).

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Haden back probably helps Hawkins a bit this week; force targets his way. Wouldn’t blame you if you benched AJ but he’s the most talented of that group of WRs. I’d stay with who you originally would and maybe look to move AJ based on his name value.

      • @Sky, thanks.

I’ve been offered CJ2K for Andre, would you do that?

        Other RB’s (play 2 + a flex-always a WR) are T. Rich, R. Bush, & S Jax.

I’d also thought of trying to package Andre & Big Ben (starting QB is Ryan) for Mike Wallace & either Vick or Fitzpatrick – don’t know if the guy will bite, but he could use an upgrade at QB.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Well, I would’ve assumed the same vs the Texans but…They’re close in value this week. Ballard has the better matchup but you have no idea the volume of carries he’s going to get. At least you know CJ should get 15 touches. I personally would probably roll the dice with Ballard.

Just can’t get over your hatred for Turner and Murray huh?

Like all the ranks Sky couldnt agree more on the majority of them; just had a TE question (NON PPR). Fred Davis is on waivers, current TE is Jared Cook. Should I swap for this week and ROS? Fred Davis just hasn’t impressed and Cook’s numbers are consistent in terms of a week to week TE. I guess I want to lean Cook so I have a reason to watch a terrible Titans offense tonight.

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

Ha. Murray’s matchup isn’t very good this week. My Turner ranking is actually close to the consensus via FantasyPros, albiet a little lower. What can I say, even when I’m raising the bar for him, I’m still stubborn!

Just pick up Hasselbeck if you need a reason to watch that offense! I like Davis. His targets over the last two weeks have improved. I’m not as high on him now as I was in the pre-season but even in non-PPR, he should provide a more consistent value because of that, in my mind.

      • Murph says:
        (link)

        @Sky,

If Turner keeps it up every running back in the NFL will be lining up to get DUI’s haha. I’m confident Murray can pick the pace up if the Cowboys can get all there player/coach/owner issues worked out. I would really like to see the player from week 1 as he is my weekly flex option.

Thanks for the old man Hasselbeck tip but I think I will roll with Matt Ryan this week. I know sounds crazy but I think its worth the risk.

        • Sky

          Sky says:
          (link)

Well I own CJ so here’s to hoping he downs some Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey! Yeah, that’s part of the problem with Murray but the other side of it is sometimes just a matchup issue and that’s what I see for Murray this week.

Ha! You gotta take your risks where you can afford it. I think you’re on the right side of that one.

          • Murph says:
            (link)

            @Sky,

By the way he’s running I would think CJ was more of an appletini or mimosa guy…Jack Daniels is more Frank Gore.

Murray does have some good matchups with CAR and NO so I guess we will have to wait and see.

@Sky, Thanks for pointing me to Randle (I did mean to ask). I think I’ll baby step to Avery and wait to see more positive reports before the full switch to Randle. Thanks.

Yeah, no problem. If Eli plays a smart game, 3rd/4th option guys in the receiving game will most likely benefit from playing a tough SF defense.

I think it’s a reasonable risk to take if Wright is not a large part of your team

    Sky,
I see the QB rankings and I am in a quandary: although Rivers is ranked higher, I really want to start Andy Dalton- he has better targets, plays a defense that allows more passing yards, and Rivers against that Denver pass defense makes me itchy. Please tell me why Rivers is the better play. I just don’t see it.
    Thx

I’m honestly leery of Dalton hence me not ranking him higher this week despite the matchup. Overall, Denver has given up the 12th most yards on the ground while only having a 9/2 TD:INT ratio (compared to the Browns 12:7) through the air. Also, Rivers has a 20:7 TD:INT ratio vs the Broncos for his career and finally has a healthy Mathews to balance out the offense (something he didn’t really have for about 4 weeks). I think that balance coupled with past success will win out.

        @Sky,
Thanks, you have given me some additional info to chew on.

    Need some RB help

I have Rice, A Brown, Tate, and LSH (AZ), and Forte but Forte is on bye
I don’t think any of the guys will help me very much this week except . The following RBs are on waivers Blount, Hunter, and Bolden. Thinking about playing Blount. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

I’d drop Brown for Bolden, actually. Think he gets a TD plunge this week. Could play over LSH & Tate

        @Ryno,

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bolden sees more carries than Ridley this week due to Ridley’s fumble last week. What he can do with them against seattles defense is another thing.

I could see giving GOrdon a shot. At least he looks like a guy with a defined role on his team.
