Ugh, I’m making the lead paragraph about Mark Sanchez. I know, blech.¬† I might as well have talked about Bob Dole here, it would’ve been just as exciting.¬† But the reality is, despite him not getting drafted even in 2QB leagues, Sanchez was set to be the starting quarterback for the Jets this year.¬† You see, Rex Ryan got this tattoo and…well, tattoos are forever.¬† Well, that and Geno Smith hasn’t exactly been awe-inspiring this preseason, as his 3rd game stats – 16/30 for 199 yards, 3 interceptions and 1 TD – show.¬† But something broke in Ryan’s head this weekend.¬† Maybe he thought it was week 9 and a must win situation.¬† Maybe he forgot to DVR Game Of Thrones and just had a moment of weakness.¬† Maybe he was wistfully thinking of his wife’s feet.¬† Whatever the reasoning, he felt the Jets just had to win their third preseason game of the year and he sent Sanchez out there to do it for them, even though Mark was not supposed to go out there for the third game.¬† Well the end result was pretty dramatic.¬† Sanchez hurt his shoulder in the 4th quarter of a game he shouldn’t have ever been involved in and the Jets now look set to be lead by a rookie QB to start the 2013 Fantasy Football season.¬† Is it better or worse, you ask?¬† I’ll say in some ways worse.¬† Look, he’s never been great but at least Sanchez is familiar with his team/offense.¬† Continuity is important, even when we’re talking about how terrible the continuity is.¬† In either sitch, it looks like Geno should start the year for the New York Jest while Rex goes and gets his teeth whitened or whatever it is he does when he pulls stunts like this.¬† In other 2013 Fantasy Football news…ah shizz, I couldn’t let it slide.¬† There’s still time for you to start a Razzball Commenter League or sign up for one if there are spots available.¬† So go click on that link to find out why I keep pumping this whole deal to you every day.¬† Aren’t you at the least bit curious at this point?¬† No?¬† Well stay tuned for tomorrow’s then!¬† And now on with the show…
Rashard Mendenhall – Bruce Arians described Rashard’s knee as ‘loose’ when asked about it.¬† Well since it’s not his foot and he’s not Kevin Bacon, I’m gonna put this in the ‘that doesn’t sound good’ category.¬† For now, it’s being described as a mild sprain.¬† Just beware if his knee goes full Rashard.¬† Never go full Rashard.
Ryan Williams – Oddly, even with the knowledge of Mendenhall’s injury, Williams is on the trade block according to twitter sources.¬† That means either Ellington or Taylor will get the nod in the case of Mendy needing mending.¬† I’m leaning Stepfan there if you were wondering.¬† I have no doubt you were.
Markus Wheaton – On 8 targets, hauled in 3 receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown.¬† With most likely out to start the year and with so-so history from Emmanuel and Antonio, it’s reasonable to dial up Markus in deeper leagues.¬† Kid’s looking NFL ready so far.¬† Unless you have a gluten allergy, see if Wheaton fits into your fantasy diet.
Christian Ponder – I know, I know, AP hasn’t been out there but cripes this guy looks terrible.¬† Just an FYI for those looking at getting something back from their Jennings/Patterson/Wright picks.¬† Might be a rough go from week to week.¬† There’s nothing golden about being on this Ponder.
Knowshon Moreno – Duh-duhn…duh-duhn…duh-duhn-duh-duhn-duh-duhn…DOODOOODOO!¬† Or however the Jaws theme is supposed to go.¬† Hillman fumbled again and the Broncos still can’t trust Ball in the pass pro.¬† Meanwhile, Moreno rushed for 33 yards on 5 carries to go with 42 yards on 3 receptions.¬† To Knowshon is not to love him, but if you’ve got the roster space for him, put him on your bench and see how it pans out while his ADP remains low.
Quinton Patton – Caught a touchdown pass from Kaepernick and then decided to do…this.¬† I’m not gonna call that a dance and the only one I know how to do is called the Macarena.¬† That says a lot.¬† What else says a lot?¬† Patton catching touchdowns from Kaep.¬† Late round lottery picks.¬† Take them.¬† They’re awesome.
Jared Cook – Had 4 receptions for 50 yards and a nice touchdown catch.¬† Remember when I put him in my Top 10 TEs for the year?¬† Remember when I defended him on the Revelation Sports Podcast?¬† You don’t?¬† Well that’s why I provided the links.¬† Go catch up!¬† There are a lot of threats in the passing game in Saint Louis this year and I just drafted Sam Bradford as my QB1 in a 2QB league.¬† Lord help me, I drank my own Kool-Aid but it’s clear that Cook has a good chance at performing up to what I’m calling him to be and maybe more.
Saint Louis Defense – I don’t normally highlight team defenses in posts.¬† I think the last time I did it, I was talking about the Broncos last year.¬† Anyone remember how they ended the year?¬† Oh, they were good?¬† Yeah, STL DEF is a reasonable defense to try your hand with to start the year.
Lamar Miller – Went for 35 yards on 8 carries.¬† The back whom Ireland says will split carries with him?¬† He went for 3 yards on 7 carries.¬† What’s his name?¬†¬†You want to know his name after those stats, Imaginary Reader?¬† Humor me. ¬†It’s Daniel Thomas. ¬†What a bland name.¬†¬†It fits his style of play so well, though.¬† Needless to say, the split carries fear should go away over time.¬† Take advantage in your drafts if they hold true.
David Wilson – Named the lead back in New York.¬† Derp, y’all!¬† We all knew this would be the case.¬† Still doesn’t mean Andre won’t get his touches at the GL and on some short yardage plays.¬† But when Wilson busts one for an 84 yard touchdown, how much will you care?¬† That’s a philosophical question.¬† Let it ruminate for a bit.
Michael Vick – More from the ‘yeah, we get it’ news is that Vick is the starter for Philly.¬† I had him in my sexy QB tier right outside of Romo and Manning.¬† This could be a huge year from Vick and he’s going cheap enough to find out in most leagues, especially if you dog it out on drafting a QB1.
Justin Blackmon – Had 4 rec and 50 yards on 7 targets.¬† Why do you care?¬† Because he’s suspended for 4 games to start the year and most likely will be drafted as a WR4 or maybe even 5 in some leagues.¬† There’s still value here even if Gabbert was named the starting QB.¬† !#@)$(#)@HB)#)…sorry, a cold shudder went through my body when I typed ‘Gabbert was named the starting QB’.
Mike Glennon – Went 3/9 for 44 yards and a touchdown.¬† Why am I talking about a backup QB?¬† Well I wouldn’t if the QB ahead of him were proving himself.¬† This is a situation to monitor, in my opinion.¬† I’m not telling you to jump on either but it might affect the value of the wide receivers and our Doug Martin this year.¬† Stay tuned/be fearful/don’t drink and drive.
Jake Locker – Has looked competent.¬† It’s hard typing that but it’s true.¬† I’m still not a believer nor a buyer but I’ll draft his WRs with a bit more ease because of it.
Ryan Mathews – Has looked more like Ryan 2011 then Ryan 2012 so far as he went for 57 yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.¬† Yes, he fumbled.¬† Yes he did it on the goal line.¬† Yes, that’s bad.¬† But he’s still the lead back in that offense and his preseason has gone quite well.¬† I’ve given him a bit of a nudge in my tiers up to where I’d draft DMC.¬† That’s not a compliment but it’s an improvement.¬† When he develops a second ‘t’ for his last name, there’s no limit to how high I’d draft him.
Christine Michael – 11 carries for 97 yards and a touchdown.¬† All your dynasty leagues are belong to us.¬† Basically if Lynch goes down, I don’t see the ‘hawks missing a step this season.
Tony Moeaki РHad 1 catch for 24 yards.  Exciting!  Amazing!  Shut up about Moeaki, Sky!
