Coming into what for most is the fantasy championship, Dez Bryant was a question mark. The broken left index finger he suffered a few weeks ago put him on the verge of missing the remainder of the season. Well I'm sure fantasy owners are happy the Cowboys were still playing for something this Sunday as Dez - if he isn't playing next week - finished off an amazing fantasy season, grabbing 9 receptions on 12 targets for a monstrous 224 yard, 2 touchdown game. Coming into the year, I was pretty harsh in my review of him but not for skillset. To save you the hassle of clicking on that link, I'll give you the pertinent snippets: 'Bryant is the start of his own tier and it’s called the ‘when I grow up’ tier because when he does, he’s got the potential to be a WR1. If you can’t tell, I’m not a huge fan of Bryant due to his childish ways. Part of the problem with being puerile (thanks thesaurus.com!) is you’re going to lack consistency.' I think any owner of Dez this year would admit the first half of the season was pretty rocky. It seemed that every promising performance would be followed up by a 3 catch, 17 yard stinker. But something clicked with Bryant week 10. Some would say the off-field issue with his Mom finally being resolved led to a calmer player who could simply concentrate on what happened on the football field. Others could say the Cowboys game plan evolved to get the ball to Dez more often. For me, I think we finally saw the talented player that we drafted over the last couple of years with the hope of him becoming this star finally just matured. Like those cheezits commercials, Dez was all fart jokes heading into the 2012 season but now he's ready for mass consumption. It's a funny thing to say a man grew up while playing a game but indeed that's what we are witnessing and for fantasy football players and owners for 2013 and beyond, you'll look back on this second half as the reason he should now be seen as a top 5 wide receiver, if not a top 3 for years to come. Welcome to adulthood, Dez...what, you need me to repeat that? Oh, you had your iPod up too high and couldn't hear me. Well you little son of a...ahem. And in other 2012 fantasy football news for championship weekend...
Unlike a real champion, I’m mad and not going to re-trace my steps for this awesome open I wrote. Friggin’ Word crashed when I went to save! Typical. It’s as if I was going against Matt Ryan, Roddy White, and Calvin Johnson last night. Please, blog, may I have some more?
The holidays are here and so are the finals. The best of both worlds have been put together in this festive piece about fantasy football and Christmas. Enjoy!
'Twas the week of the Championships, with a game on Saturday
owners were up late figuring out whom to play.
The lineups would be set on the computers be them Windows or Macs,
and they tried to find a defense that could record some sacks.
What do Kevin Kolb, Brandon Weeden, Charlie Batch, Nick Foles, and Ryan Lindley have in common? They are all signs that the apocalypse is coming. I kid, I kid. They have all sent me defeats in the 2012 NFL season. Just goes to show you that this game we call American Football is one wild and wacky creation. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Bet the Farm is Razzball’s weekly wagering column. Josh Carey and Zorboss compete against your picks in the comments. The rules?
– You start off with $1,000 (and can start playing along in the comments any time you want – even now)
– Every bet must be an increment of $10 up to your full bankroll ($1,000 or maybe more)
– You can bet on the over/under or spread for any NFL game (Yahoo Sports’ Odds page is a good place to pick your lines)
– Win, add $9 to your total for every $10 bet (you have to beat the rake). Please, blog, may I have some more?
We’ve got less than a month left in the FanDuel season (no games past the Divisional Round of the playoffs), which means you’re running out of chances to bump up how much money you cash out at the end of the NFL season (since you’re not silly enough to actually play in NBA games, right?). Please, blog, may I have some more?
With the 2012 Fantasy Football season drawing to a close, Doc decided to look back through his patients and make the first annual All-IR Team. In order to be eligible, a player had to be put on the season-ending IR and not the designated-to-return version that debuted this season. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Greetings all! It is I, Tehol Beddict, here to help you win your fantasy title. Unlike Beyonce faking a pregnancy or the rapper ‘Rick Ross’, everything I say and do is real. Yes, I told many of you to start Denario Alexander last week and he dropped a goose egg. Please, blog, may I have some more?
The Master Standings can be found here. You can also find a link to them in the drop-down menu above, under “Leagues.” There is an explanation of the scoring at the bottom of the standings. Moffitt Divers (Cracklin’ Brats) continue to set the pace with 8,373 points after their semifinal win. Crimson Baboons (Fantasy Razzball), Hurricane Ditka (Roughing The Razzballs), King Daddy Crunch (Foosball RCL), and The Defenestrators (Jump Suit Pursuit) round out the top 5.
The Iron Throne (Josh Carey) defeated JB Gilpin in the semifinal 135 - 93 even though their QB, Josh Freeman, scored only 5.96 points. Dennis Pitta contributed an amazing 28 points, and of course Adrian Peterson was good for 27.2. The Bridgeburners (Tehol Beddict) advanced with a 128 - 109 upset of first place Reign Maker$ (Zorboss). Yahoo made Reign Maker$ 24 point favorites, and Tehol announced, "Looks like Beddict is finico." But fantasy football is not played on a computer screen. Hakeem Nicks, Doug Martin, Jamaal Charles, and Darrius Heyward-Bey scored 15 for Zorboss, instead of the 62 Yahoo projected. Meanwhile, Colin Kaepernick, Andre Johnson, Frank Gore, and the Seattle defense were piling up the points for Tehol. So now we get the final we all dreamed about.
Let me be the first one to tell you that as much as I try and keep up, I’m not usually a trendy person. If you took a look at my CD collection, you wouldn’t notice many new artists. In fact, me saying I have a CD collection already proves just how untrendy I am. Please, blog, may I have some more?
In a very special finale to the 2012 season of the Razzball Fantasy Football Podcast, Nick and JB recap some headlines from the semi-finals week 15 of NFL action, then preview 20 players JB is up and down on for 2013. Please, blog, may I have some more?
