A lot has changed in a month, oh, hold on… I’m sorry, just one second here, let me take off my captain’s hat. It takes so long to remove because of how big it is. I think it’s probably since the word “obvious” is like size 840 font. As I was saying, it feels like years since we’ve gone back and updated the preseason rankings. And there’s a reason for that. (No, it’s not because I have to reevaluate ranking Ryan Mathews so high. You shut your wh*re mouth.) I’m just not a huge movement guy early in the season, probably because of the profound lack of fiber in my diet. I hesitate making reactionary moves, and I’d rather see how things play out in a majority of scenarios in Fantasy Football. Much like Fantasy Baseball, I want to see how things stew a bit before making wholesale changes, and to be honest, I would love you to do the same. Now, unlike baseball, waiting 20 games or so for trends to emerge wouldn’t work here, as you’d be making roster changes around Super Bowl time… just a little bit tardy there. Just a little. But taking the season in 4-game increments can be beneficial for your mind, body, soul, and probably loins. There’s science to back this up, I swear. So look forward to these rankings being updated after every four games from here on out, so until then…

Here are Razzball’s Rest of Season Rankings for 2014:

Note: These rankings are not arranged on past performance, but where I see the players producing from this week forward.

  1. The Theory says:
    (link)

Are we assuming with that Knowshon ranking that he’s a couple of weeks away from returning?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@The Theory: Everything I’ve read has him coming back in Week 6. And the Dolphins are not shy about who they want as their primary back.

  2. Blake says:
    (link)

TE rankings – I had Niles Paul go down with an injury in my 10 team standard scoring league and the following are on the waiver wire:

    J Reed
    A Jenkins
    D Allen
    H Miller
    J Witten
    J Cook
    C Clay
    Clay Harbor

which one of the group? U didn’t even rank Clay harbor? don’t think he will be any good? J Reed seems very iffy for the next 2 weeks. So Jenkins or allen as best bets?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: Looks like Reed will be ready for MNF, so he might be an interesting add. That being said, I still like Witten. Harbor was in there last I checked, but the updates run slow on their site. Harbor is at 31 right now, but I’d like to see more.

  3. Bren says:
    (link)

Torn between dropping knile Davis for Ben Tate, Ridley or vereen. I own JC…

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Bren: Probably Tate. He’s a safe choice. I still like Vereen and Ridley somewhat, but I have no idea what to make of the Patriots still.

  4. Frank White says:
    (link)

Sup Jay… How is Garcon, Edelman, Allen, Andre Johnson and even Roddy White before Maclin?? Maclin is basically their only go to guy and clearly their number 1 receiver while the other guys before Maclin are either #2 or got other superstars on their teams hogging the ball.. Plus Nick Foles loves him.. Don’t mean to question your knowledge but I gotta know how that adds up

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Frank White: Hey Frank. I would disagree here, as Maclin is just one piece of Chip Kelly’s offense, which likes feeding the ball everywhere. Except to Sproles and McCoy I guess. I see what you’re saying, but besides the game against Washington, he’s putting up WR3 numbers. I’d like to see a bit more before he goes up in the next set of rankings.

And always question me, it’s a good policy.

      • Frank White says:
        (link)

Good point and the major reason is cause I own him.. LOL. Also I was thinking about trading Cam for Kelce cause his lack of production and I have Palmer, bortles and streaming options but do you think Cam will pick it up when he gets the nod to start running the ball more?? and if not then should I trade??

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Frank White: I still like Cam, a little bit less since preseason, but Carolina started off pretty bad last season, and did remarkably well as time went on. I’m expecting them to get it together somewhat.

          • Frank White says:
            (link)

            Thnx

  5. Zandy says:
    (link)

No biggie but noticed you’re missing Prater

    • Brett says:
      (link)

      @Zandy: Where would Prater place?

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@Brett: 6th, it should update shortly. Or maybe not, the things slow sometimes.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Zandy: Good catch, totally forgot about him. He’s on the updated list, which might take a while. He’s at 6.

  6. Gio says:
    (link)

    Half PPR.

Would you give up Foles/Crabtree/Asiata for Rivers/D. Thomas? Only 8 team league.

Also, if you were to shop Foster and say Crabtree or Floyd, what RB would you target?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Gio: I’m okay with it, but I feel like your overpaying a tad there. A tier one guy for a WR starved team. You could go Lynch there maybe.

  7. Andre says:
    (link)

What’s up Jay? Question for you…

I drafted Matt Forte, Ryan Mathews, and picked up Ingram before week 1 on the wire. Mathews goes down and so does Ingram so I drop both, make a few moves and acquire Zac Stacy. I go last week to pick Mathews back up…boom! Lose him to another claim. Go this week to pick up Ingram. Boom! Lose him too!.. Before he got hurt Ingram was getting me 19pts a game…I picked up Crowell, thinking he might be a decent stash/sneaky flex. How do you see him? Also available are Terrence West, Helu, and Knile Davis. Are any of these guys likely to fill the points Ingram and Mathews did?

I guess I’m looking for a fantasy pat on the back because I got snaked on the wire! Twice!

    • oppo taco says:
      (link)

@Andre: none of those guys are close to Mathews or even Ingram’s value when healthy. You didn’t get snaked because you don’t drop those guys in the first place. Davis is a good talent but Charles put on a show Monday night

      • Andre says:
        (link)

        @oppo taco:

LOL I’m also undefeated this season…but with only 4 bench spots in a 12 team league, you can’t stash 2 guys for a month, especially when I had 3 guys on a week 4 bye week

      • goodfold2 says:
        (link)

@oppo taco: i’m the guy who grabbed ingram (except for teams that had many injuries i have no idea why anybody would drop mathews or him).

    • Andre says:
      (link)

      @Andre:

Also forgot to mention…Knile Davis is also available. Would he be an every week Flex or RB2?

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

        @Andre: Probably matchup flex.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Andre: I’d rather have Davis over Crowell right now. I hate when those snipe claims come in as well.

  8. Bob says:
    (link)

Would you drop Carlos Hyde for Ryan Matthews?

    • Nick says:
      (link)

Do you still like @Bob: Thats a no brainer, who would drop Matthews?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Bob: Yes, Mathews is only a few weeks away.

  9. Nick says:
    (link)

Hey Jay, I have SD right now vs. the Jets..do you like Detroit (coming of waivers tmr), or Philly, Green Bay, the Browns? Arizona available too which is good for ROS but not this week..

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Nick: I like Detroit… but I also like SD against the Jets. CLE is nice too, I’ll have my weekly rankings our tomorrow, but right now, I’m leaning Detroit.

  10. Zandy says:
    (link)

so deangelo williams is apparently in a hard cast… who is the pikcup in carolina?
    JStew
    Ogre
    Darrin Reaves
    Fozzy?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Zandy: Probably JStew… but their running game is garbage.

      • goodfold2 says:
        (link)

@Jay: @Jay: probably reeves for this week only, but alas, garbage.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Zandy: Yeah, after looking at it, might be Fozzy, but still some trash…

  11. the pillar & the stones says:
    (link)

Torrey Smith or Terrance Williams ROS non-ppr
    Thx

  12. ryanoger says:
    (link)

Probably a no brainer but Hauschka for my Parkey or hold?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@ryanoger: I like Haus… but the difference is probably negligible.

  13. Clint says:
    (link)

I’ve got Spiller and Vereen in my ppr league. Should I drop either for Moreno who’s available or try to deal the former first? My other RB’s are Bell & Ball. We only have to start 1 and have a flex position instead of an RB2.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Clint: I’m okay dropping Vereen for Moreno at this point, but I understand if people aren’t ready to let go. I think the Patriots offense will rebound, but I wouldn’t put any money on it, if that makes sense.

  14. Mikey says:
    (link)

    Jay,
Would love to hear your thoughts on the CLE D and the high ranking. Schedule on the horizon definitely looks good.
    Thanks.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Mikey: Yes, I think CLE is underrated on that side, and they really only face one more offensive power house (ATL), and the CIN games might be iffy, but everything else looks great.

  15. Natty Boh says:
    (link)

Jordy Nelson may end the year as the #1 WR.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Natty Boh: I wouldn’t argue against this.

  16. I’ve been starting Brady with the hopes he’ll turn things around. This week I finally broke down and picked up an alternate QB. Flacco was the best availible. Start Flacco this week over Branded?

Also, I’ve got Olson as my TE and Wayne as my Flex (ppr1.) Should I start Larry Donnel at my TE or Flex?

    Thanks!

    • @Dollabill: If you say go donnel at flex, do I start wayne over K Allen (its a 2 WR league)

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Dollabill: I’m fine wth Flacco against the Colts. Though, I’ve been saying that the Patriots might surprise this Sunday night… totally gut feeling, and could be really bad advice.

Donnell in for Olsen is okay, but I like Wayne right now.

  17. the pillar & the stones says:
    (link)

    12 team non-ppr:
Drop Brady for Flacco? Or drop Torrey Smith?
Have Jordy and Julio starting with Terrance Williams on the bench along w/ RB’s that I want to drop but prob shouldn’t in D. Brown and J. Bell.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@the pillar & the stones: I’m fine with that, but I don’t expect much from Flacco on a regular basis. And I’m always low on Smith. I think you should drop Brown. Mathews is coming back in a few weeks and he has the Jets coming up.

  18. andy says:
    (link)

    Hey Jay,

Why do you have Matt Ryan at #2? I thought losing so much on the offensive line would rly hurt him. Thanks.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@andy: Even though the center is out for the year, he’s still on pace for 5000 or so yds and 40 TD’s. Let’s see how the coaching and scheme adjusts, but I’m still very high on him.

      • andy says:
        (link)

@Jay: interesting…I feel like a weaker OL hurt him a lot last year, but losing Julio and an ineffective Roddy probably played into that too…Thanks for the reply!

  19. Bilbo says:
    (link)

I have Larry Donnell and need RB help.

Try for Bishop Sankey or Alfred Blue?

Asking for too much or getting too little in return?

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Bilbo: I think you could do a little better. Maybe try for Ryan Mathews?

  20. Scott says:
    (link)

Andrew Hawkins is still on my waiver wire and Mike Evans is hurt and on my bench. Make the switch?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Scott: I would, yes.

  21. Don Majkowski says:
    (link)

    My Team(2QB League/PPR/12 team)

    QB Rivers
    QB Flacco
    RB Martin
    RB Asiata
    RB/WR Percy
    WR Julio
    WR Steve Smith
    TE Olsen
    D Seattle

    Bench

    Hopkins
    DMC
    AP
    Josh Gordon
    Jake Locker

    1) Do I trade Juio for Shady? (I could clearly use the RB depth, but hate to give up Julio, who I tnk will be #1 WR this year…though I have the WR’s to do it, especially with Gordon coming week 12.

    2) What is your opinion on AP ROS…will he play again this year?

    3) How good will Josh Gordon be in weeks 12-16…will he immediately be a must start?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Don Majkowski: 1. I’m okay with it, but yeah, hard to give up on Julio. 2. Probably not, but if that spot isn’t hurting you, I’d hold until Oct. 8th. 3. Not sure what kind of rust he’ll have, but he’s a must start regardless.

  22. the pillar & the stones says:
    (link)

    This week
A Smith @ SF over Brady v CIN?

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@the pillar & the stones: This sounds crazy, but Glennon at NO sounds delicious. Double check with my weekly rankings tomorrow though.

  23. Blake says:
    (link)

Adrian Peterson – is he really gone for the season?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: Probably, but if the spot doesn’t hurt you, I’d hold until Oct. 8th.

      • Blake says:
        (link)

        why the 8th?
        @Jay:

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Blake: That’s when the court hearing is. Could be a plea deal before then. But if nothing is arranged by then, he’s out the season.

  24. tone DEAF says:
    (link)

Im a Demarco Murray owner. Should I grab Dunbar as an insurance policy if I have the room?

  25. mguy31 says:
    (link)

Luck is my starter, Rivers backup, 12 team standard league. Just got offered Rivers for Gronk, my other tight end is reed and I just picked up Seferian-Jenkins. I should pull the trigger on this correct?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@mguy31: Yeah, not a big fan of Gronk this season, but that’s good value right there.

  26. paz says:
    (link)

    trade asiata for v jax?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@paz: I’m okay with it, sure.

  27. NJR says:
    (link)

Hey Jay. Got some questions. So my TE is Ertz right now. I’m trying for Larry Donnell. Pretty much Id get Donnell and Wayne. I’d have to give up Ertz and one of my RBs. I have leveon, Stacy, Miller, Sankey. Which would be worth giving up for him?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@NJR: Miller… but I’m not sure that’s enough and Stacy is an overpay. Worth trying though.

  28. Dutch Rudder says:
    (link)

Jay – I’m sure no one will remember that Ryan Mathews ranking. A couple of questions about these rankings:

-Why so high on Shane Vereen (at least in PPR format)? Is it that the Pats-D blows and that increases his reps over Ridley the rest of the season? 16th seems awfully high for a guy who has barely eclipsed 10 points in any given week.
-Why do you have Randall Cobb ranked higher than Jordy Nelson (also in PPR)? Jordy has been a beast through 4 weeks, even if it involves a so-so game followed by a monster game.
-Knowshon Moreno at 12 and Lamar Miller at 47? You think once Knowshon is back from injury Lamar goes back to perfecting his limp-wristed javelin toss? Even if he hasn’t exactly run away with the job while Moreno is injured, he has been serviceable and Moreno isn’t exactly the healthiest guy so no guarantee he doesn’t get reinjured.

As always, your thoughts are much appreciated and keep up the good work!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Dutch Rudder: I don’t even remember!

I should state that there is an ‘auto-sync’ function in place that automates the PPR rankings based on my standard rankings. That being said, the Patriots aren’t this bad, so I could see him still holding value in PPR leagues. Cobb has historically been better at the reception cat, so I’m okay with that nod.

Yes, I think it’s clear who Miami wants as their primary back. He has been serviceable, but the fumbles, which we probably don’t notice sometimes in fantasy, affects his value in the real world. If Moreno does get injured again, then I would have to reevaluate, of course.

      And thanks!

  29. the pillar & the stones says:
    (link)

    12 team non-ppr:
Give M Ball, Gore and M Wallace
    Get G Bernard & B Marshall
    Thoughts?

  30. sp says:
    (link)

Would you move P. Garcon for Cutler / Davis?

Have Jeffery/Wayne/Smith Sr/Hilton, Kap/Cousins at QB, and Daniels at TE. I love Garcon, but washington looks pretty bad lately.

Thanks for the ranks as always Jay

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@sp: I’d hold. The team is hit or miss, but I think you’re fine without Davis.

  31. Ryan says:
    (link)

In a 10 team ppr, who is the better waiver pick up…sanky or moreno? Also would you drop jeremy hill for mckinnon or just hang onto hill?

    • Ryan says:
      (link)

@Ryan: actually scratch that. I pickup up Moreno but now reports say he is 4 more weeks away. Should I drop Moreno for McKinnon then?

      • goodfold2 says:
        (link)

@Ryan: is that right (i could use and/or NEED miller for a while longer than 1 week so WHEW!)?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@goodfold2: Yep, beat reporter broke it earlier today.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Ryan: Yeah, just read that. Looks like Mck is the add here.

  32. TobiasFunkeAnalRapist says:
    (link)

Some of your defense rankings are concerning, how do you have the Browns and Jets ranked so high?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@TobiasFunkeAnalRapist: I think the Browns defense is underrated, and their ROS schedule is pretty light. Jets, the same thing, after the Chargers and Broncos, I think they’ll hold their own.

  33. Eric says:
    (link)

    Hi Jay,

12-team PPR. Extremely slim pickins at RB. I have Bernard and just lost Joique and Deangelo Williams. Options out there:
Shonn Greene (vs CLE), Cadet (vs TB), Cunningham (@PHI), Jacquizz/Devonta (@NYG)

I’m thinking Greene is my man, unfortunately. Help!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Eric: Yeah, gotta go Greene out of those choices.

    • Eric says:
      (link)

@Eric: @Eric: forget Greene. He’s on waivers, and my league’s settings are so dumb – can’t add him this week. Also, add Branden Oliver and Ogbonnaya to that list :(

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@Eric: Oh… eesh. Then probably Cunningham… not much volume anywhere.

  34. Scott says:
    (link)

I picked up the St Louis Rams D in the draft. I’m wondering if that’s why I’m keeping them? Or should I be streaming D’s? Need an objective opinion.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Scott: Stream.

  35. Greyismyhero says:
    (link)

I’m trying to trade for Luck, I have Big Ben currently, he wanted Forte, I rejected, I countered with Stacy for Luck, he declined…he then offered Luck for Cooks & Ellington, I declined….Am I being to crazy here? Stay with Ben or try a trade?

I have Forte, Ellington, Cooks, Stacy, Crabtree, Garcon, Wheaton, Forsett, Wright, McKinnon, D. Brown……If you recommend a trade what’s a fair offer? Thanks.

    SMOKE THE GREEN!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Greyismyhero: Stay with Ben. Stacy for Luck was a slight overpay anyways.

I think you have been fair, he’s just trying to sell high. Pass.

      • Greyismyhero says:
        (link)

@Jay: Thanks, he also has Rivers…hold with Ben still or try for Rivers with something? Our league is 6 TD’s with good bonus for QB’s….My gut just says hold??

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Greyismyhero: I might try something for Rivers, but at a substantial discount than Luck.

  36. DMT says:
    (link)

Moreno is now saying he’s 4 weeks away so he’s gotta be ranked lower than 12th, no?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@DMT: Yes, I just read that about 30 minutes ago and updated the rankings. Should reflect that shortly,

  37. Cheese says:
    (link)

That low on Montee Ball eh? What’s the issue you see with him? Not enough red zone looks due to Peyton loving his 1 yard TDs to Julius?
