Well, this is it, one of the last remaining information dumps (hehe, dump) for the masses (that’s you, you’re a mass!) in preparation for the 2017 Fantasy Football Drafts that are happening as we speak. Or is it “as we read”? My head hurts. Essentially, we are almost set in terms of laying down the foundation of this year’s preseason Fantasy Football content. Then? We can actually talk about real football games and yo momma jokes galore! Peak Razzball if you ask me.
For those of you who have never played in an auction draft league, or for those of you who do nothing but make it rain when you hear the words Antonio and Brown in the same sentence, I’ll go over some pointers and overall auction strategy in the coming days, as to facilitate moderate-to-heavy alcohol consumption without the fear of drafting Mark Sanchez just because you thought nachos would have gone great with that glass of bourbon. Literal nachos would have, mind you…

This may be an hopeless question, but I’ll be on vacation/off-the-grid for both of my leagues’ drafts. Any strategy with pre-setting auction values for an auto-draft? Or should I just leave everything as-is and pray I don’t end up with Scott Tolzein as my QB1.
I’m thinking of zero-ing out the guys I really just don’t want to own, and bumping the values for guys I really want and hope I land somebody. But auctions are so fluid that I think any pre-set strategy would go out the window once I paid $80 for David Johnson. I guess my best case scenario is to have some values that aren’t super predictable so my league mates don’t just auto-bid me up to the pre-set ESPN values.
Any tips here?
@Stumanji!: it’s a good thing (probably anyway) that you aren’t in yahoo here. there you can rank people however you want and it’s “system” will draft what it thinks you should need. so it’ll draft a backup TE or a kicker or a 2nd D before a top 5 dynasty RB if you already have a decent amount of RB’s. this actually happened to me in gurley’s rookie year. i ranked like 62 or so people with the 4th overall pick, and got a backup TE, a 2nd D and a kicker rather than him. kinda like living in buffalo (re: cold) and paying somebody to set your house up for you to live in it and you say you’ll meet up in the house with pizza, when you get there you have a space heater, no food and a mistletoe (christmas time of year). “hey, you already had a space heater” (no working house heater of course) “and food so i got you something to make sure your home was complete (the tree)”
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: christmas tree/mistletoe it’s the same metaphor. shit you don’t need but they “make the house a home” kinda “thinking”
@Stumanji!: Tough situation for sure. Not really a strat I can think of, but you’re going to have spread your value around in auctions. Don’t go too high, don’t go too low. Maybe set a lot of prices at perceived value and try to grab steals throughout with the bot. Besides that, what you listed seems like a great idea too, and is something I would do.
i checked when the fuller injury happened, and it’s most recent update was from aug 2nd, before today your most recent rankings update was the 21st, so what i should’ve asked last time was it sure appears you have fuller coming back for a good chunk of the season for your ranking. that update said 2-3 months from aug 2nd, so his upside is only missing 4 or so weeks total. downside is at 8 season weeks out and/or coming back not really in game shape.
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: Yeah, it must have just skipped my mind that he got injured, I actually didn’t know until you mentioned it, I’ve taken him out for now until I can better assess today, and I’ll be updating all my rankings tonight regardless, so it was good looking out.
Hey Jay, revisiting keepers with my keeper lock tomorrow:
Keep 0 to 3, 12 team .5ppr
T Coleman $8
Procise $3
Rivers. $3
Henry $20
Ingram $17
Was going first three but wondering now if one of the last two better than Procise.
@Nightpandas: I’d do Prosise, Rivers… and yeah, Coleman, same three. I’m curious about Ingram, but I love the other value plays you have here.
Corey Davis went for 5$ in a 1/2 point PPR dynasty league. How ridiculous is that? I had no money so I was just screaming out obscenities at the people that did
@Christian herman: Crazy…
Any strategy thoughts for a 16 team league that would differ from a 12? (Std)
1 qb 2 rb 3 wr 1 te 1 flex 6 bench (k and def who cares)
Thanks Jay
@Nightpandas: Yeah, I think the dollar values would run closer to the middle, maybe 5 bucks on both low and high and then averaged out then on. So maybe 65 highest bid and go 3 bucks down from there on the player list.
Listened to your advice to upgrade TE postion. Was the trade I made good:
I gave: Eddie Lacy and Austin Hooper
I got: Jordan Reed and Kareem Hunt
From trading my bench has gotten pretty weak but my staters have gotten so much stronger.
And lastly who would you consider my top 3 RBs in order and who to start yearlong
ROSTER BEFORE TRADE:
QB Aaron Rodgers
RB Mark Ingram
RB Frank Gore
WR Jordy Nelson
WR Dez Bryant
TE Austin Hooper
Flex Terrelle Pryor
Bench
QB Eli Manning
RB Danny Woodhead
RB Robert Turbin
RB Jamaal Williams
RB Eddie Lacy
WR Martavis Bryant
K Adam Vinateri
Def Bengals
@Dom: Yeah, I like this deal for you. Hunt certainly is getting a lot of attention right now.
Hoping you can help me out…….In a 10 team league, everyone starts with 200. 4 points per passing TD, so qb’s don’t go for much . Rodgers went for 14 last year was the highest.
I can keep David Johnson for 65
Mike Evans for 41
or Diggs for 6.
you start 1 qb, 3 WR, 2 RB TE, Flex kicker and def.
What should i DO.
I’d probably keep Diggs and try to get Johnson back. Tough decision, he could go for more than 65… but the value Diggs offers is pretty solid.
Yo, Jay I’m in a ten team keeper $200 cap and we can keep 4. I’m keeping Julio $50, Evans $29 and I’m stuck on either Gram $18, Procise $1, Henry $15, and Perkins $10. So out of the last three which two? Thanks bro
