Over the years, I probably haven’t been as active with my Rest of Season Rankings as my peers. The simple reason is: I dislike shoot-from-the-hip reactions, and not that ROS Rankings are that, but they are certainly a tool for that. I’m fairly conservative (not really suffering from economic anxiety though) in terms of the first month. But sometimes I wonder if that’s too slow a reaction time in Fantasy Football. I don’t think we’re sitting here waiting for an exact number of games, and one complete football season will never offer a large enough sample size to draw concrete data from, so this year I’m giving in and going ahead and releasing our Rest of Season Rankings here in Week 2. While I still think a wait-and-see approach for most teams is the right way to go, I’m also empathetic to all the David Johnson and Allen Robinson owners out there who will be needing to do a bit triage work on their respective teams. So in that regard, here are our Rest of Season Rankings, which will be updated every Thursday from here on out, unless there’s a case of breaking news or Josh Gordon gets reinstated. Whichever comes first…
Pick a side:
Maclin and Gilislee
Fitzgerald and Jon Stewart
@JB2: I’d say Gilislee and Fitz.
@Jay:
Oh, it’s [Maclin and Gillislee] or [Fitz and Stew]. My trade strategy is to always get the best player, but this one’s close for me.
@JB2: Half-PPR
@JB2: I’d take Fitz and Stew. I think Fitz is the best player by a good margin.
@Big E Is a Creep: I agree here, but my thinking is that Maclin in PPR and Gillislee being a bit more of a contributor at the goal line allows some spread depth for me. If you are downsizing a roster spot into Fitz, I’m fine with that too.
@JB2: Oh, haha, gotcha. I’d want the Maclin side then.
On the heels of Andy Daulton’s spectactular implosion, how can you have A.J. Green in top 10?
I would have him in the mid-20s.
P.S. I own him.
P.P.S. I refused to draft Hopkins this year, but at least he has some upside if he sees 15 targets a game.
@Jeff P: Meh, it’s one game, and while I’m not a Dalton fan, stars usually find a way. I have faith, but you’re right, I could be wrong here.
@Jay: well it’s 2 games now.
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: Oh yeah, two games. Still, I’d probably wait two more weeks until I panic with my stars.
@Jay: Would you trade Fournette for Green?
Seems pretty even and I don’t really need to make right now, but it’s on the table.
@Mex: I would, yes.
@Jeff P: Their OC is fired and the QB coach got the promotion. There’s definite hope. Green, Eifert are all buy lows.
@Jedimasters: Yeah, pretty rare to see something like that firing happen so early.
where are those all those clever folks:
“definitely take the luck discount, all news indicates he’ll miss one week at most”
“ODB’ll be fine at his ADP price”
HAHAHAHAHA. gotta wonder if the guys writing that stuff actually did it themselves.
16 team dynasty PPR, max 6 RB, 7 WR
QB (1, max 2) palmer/flacco
RB (2, 6) hyde/k.will/prosise/j.allen/stewart/perine
WR (3, 7) evans/mart bryant/garcon/treadwell/t.will (LAC)
TE (1, 3) ertz/ebron
stash slots: hightower/m.floyd/j.brown/lad green/d.johnson
if ebron keeps getting no usage at all i might drop when j.brown or m.williams is up. maybe not though as kittle might be only decent option out there.
am i better off grabbing breida (dropped today) as a hyde owner for one of the RB’s?
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: I loved Luck as a QB2 taken late in the draft, but yeah, there was no way I would risk him being my QB1. I think TE can be streamed here, and sure, I like Breida over Perine at the moment. Redskins are already talking trash about Perine’s fumbles.
@Jay: 3:52 for the relevant part, but it’s all great.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4j7dV-HmbU
WAS are such flatliners.
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: and unless you drafted very late luck was still going in the 6th-8th or just around there, so you’d have had to already had a high ranked (and expensive) QB to grab luck, OR punt the position entirely and grab luck later and hope bradford or maybe stafford were good enough for you starting (which might be the case)
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: Yeah, haha, I think I grabbed him in the 13th round in the RCL, with Rivers already on the team. I’m okay with that grab, but he scared me silly during the preseason. He went from ranked fourth down to 15th I think? Something low.
@Jay: 13th no real risk with that pick, i was still seeing people grab in the top 100 probably the same week you got him there. i’m now seeing guys who got auto picked in the last week of the preseason dropping luck outright.
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: Haha, yeah, I’d say the auto-pick teams got screwed the worst.
In a dynasty league, would you deal Dez for Carlos Hyde and Kelvin Benjamin? It seems like a good deal, but Dez just has that unlimited upside hold on me.
@TysonFrozenChicken: Also, I’m contending this year but am thin at running back. Lost DJ but have Kerwynn. Only Perkins and Eddie Lacy behind that.
@TysonFrozenChicken: Yeah, I sorta like this deal, but I think I’m being held back for the same reason you are. I’d do it, but I wouldn’t feel great about it, if that makes sense.
@Jay: Thanks, man! It’s a pickle. Would you rather have Ty Mo or Hyde in that deal? Feels like Ty Mo might score more this year, but Hyde has better chance of relevancy for the next 3 years. Let me know if you think I have that wrong. Thanks, again!
@TysonFrozenChicken: I’d probably go with what you’re feeling here, Hyde for the longer term, but Ty for this year.
@Jay: Cool. Thanks a lot, bud!
@TysonFrozenChicken: Any time!
PPR League. Who do I bench this week…TY Hilton, C. Coleman, or P. Garcon?
@Big E Is a Creep: Probably Garcon, but check my updated rankings Sunday morning to be sure.
@Jay: An answer and a plug. Well done, sir.
@Big E Is a Creep: That’s how we do!
2 QB half PPR dynasty. still have no kicker, wanted to see brissett start first, his value might jack right up there if he’s good. also mccown might get benched or hurt at any old time. won anyway with 5th worst score in the league (barely above 3rd worst), due to cousins/brady having horrible weeks.
QB (2) rodgers, tygod, mccown, brissett, mahomes
RB (2) ingram, t.west, forte, mack, kamara, charles
WR (3) allen, britt, d-jax, decker, jordy, treadwell, m.lee
TE (1) ertz
2 flexes (R/W/T)
IR edleman/woodhead (only 2 spots)
K ?
IDP flexes (4) l.david, t.smith, ogletree, collins
team DEF DEN
a guy with 1 QB is trying to trade from WR depth for a QB. trying to do a 2 for 1, which of britt/decker goes first for thielen. also are any of these even upgrades on my guys: s.shepard/ris matthews/hurns?
@jason batteiger:
R Matthews > Treadwell. I’d grab Thielen at that price.
@jason batteiger: Looks like Brisset is starting, the Tolzein show did not go well it seems. And yeah, I think Decker is a good target.
@jason batteiger: Oh and like JB2 said, love Thielen there too.
@Jay: thielen is the known attempt (to move ONE of decker or britt + mccown probably), i already have decker/britt. wondering if ris matthews/hurns/shepard is good enough upgrade over britt/decker in case he balks at me getting thielen (which he probably will)
@jason batteiger: I think it’s sorta lateral, but I still like the Britt Decker combo above that slightly.
@Jay: and i’d guess if i CAN swing one of mccown/brissett + one of decker/britt for thielen it would be decker gone first from age
@jason batteiger: Yeah, I think that’s fair.
@Jay: sorry, meant are ONE of ris matthews OR hurns OR sheppard good enough to move one of britt/decker + mccown; i’d guess not though.
@jason batteiger: Just saw this man, sorry I missed it. And I’d say no in this case.
Someone dropped Jordan Reed so I panicked and cut my Kicker to get him. Now, unless I can pull off a trade, I need to drop a lottery ticket for a kicker :(
I have Tarik (and Howard), Rawls, Carson, D Henry, Mack, D Martin and Jacquizz. Your rankings say cut Mack… Really? Ugh.
@James: I think you drop Mack there even though it’s a tough decision. I love your bench, so maybe it’s a good problem to have.
How many RCL leagues are there this year? Will there be update columns at all, like on the baseball side? Also, I’m in a league that has not yet been “fixed”. Illegal rosters abound. There is still no 1/2 PPR yet. I know its been fixed for some leagues, but clearly not all leagues. Also understand the part about things that can be fixed retroactively. However, how would you retroactively fix a roster that starts two DB against me this week? Which one is chosen to accrue points? League is the one with Jen. Previously had read that commissioners could fix, but Jen mentioned that you were working with Fantrax still?
So many questions Jay haha
@knucks: I think there was 16? And yeah, we’ll be running RCL updates, they will normally come out Friday, but first couple weeks are always a little crazy trying to get our ranking system to work, especially with our switch to FanTrax this year.
And we are still working on that fix, we implemented a test work around today in the writers league for the same issue, and once we get the okay, we’ll fix Jen’s league. All points will be credited retroactively.
@knucks: probably just force the higher ranked at the time DB to start. either that or gift ALL teams highest ranked roster in the weeks they couldn’t set and/or weren’t legally set.
Any idea when Luck will return? Thinking of dropping Luck and going with Rivers. I could start him this week over Mariota. Good idea or hold on Luck?
@Steve: if ANYBODY has news it ain’t out there. IND’s been hiding this shizz for months now. worse than hiding actually as they led us all on to even try to outside chance believe over a month ago he had a shot at week 1 or even 2.
@Steve: Yeah, like Levator says, who knows. I’m okay with that if he’s killing your team. But if you can stash him without too much damage, may help at some point.
16 team dynasty. start 1 qb, 2 rb, 2 wr, 2 rb/wr/te flex, 1 te. roster is tyrod, kizer, deshaun, glennon, julio, DT, tyreek, Tyrell, martavis, ty mont, leveon, cja, hyde, white, jeremy hill, gronk, ASJ, vance mcdonald.
Should i drop mcdonald for vernon davis? if reed goes down vernon will be solid (in the event i need to cover another gronk injury). other guys available are ben watson, derby, ricardo louis, chester rogers, trent taylor. 22 rosters spots per team so not much out there.
thaks.
@Brian: Yeah, I’m okay with that. I think you’re in the area where you could just stream if it doesn’t work out there.
2 QB league, my starters have byes week 6 and 8
own Kizer (@HOU, MIN)
or Cutler (@ATL, @BAL)?
thx
@waffles: Cutler, but eesh.
@Jay: DeShaun Watson over Cutler ROS?
Jay,
16 team league std
My Gurley and Evans for his Zeke and M Wallace
Start 2rb and 3wr and one flex
My other rb: Hyde Kelley Mack Darkwa Smallwood
Other wr: Diggs J Matthews T Smith
@Nightpandas: Gurley side, but slightly. I think Evans is ahead enough of Wallace here.
if we assumed OAK kicker kept the job all year how much higher would he be? in a league with deep benches but roster maximums at all spots i’m better off with 1 kicker 3 TE’s than 2 and 2. have hopkins and OAK’s current kicker.
@Mordacious Levator: Probably around top-15… maybe 10 with certain matchups.
Hey Jay,
In a standard 12-team keeper league, would you trade Dalvin Cook and Zay Jones for Doug Baldwin and Lamar Miller? Thanks
@Tony: I would be getting Cook and Zay in that scenario. I also think Lamar and Reed for Cook and Rudolph would be fair. Which trade do you prefer, if either?
@Tony: oh, I’d want Lamar side.
@Tony: yes I would.
Howdy man!!
.5 PPR would you trade my martavis Bryant to acquire Larry Fitzgerald?
My WRs (we start 3 , could be 4 w/ flex) alshon, Keenan, Marshall, Golladay, Parker, snead , martavis Bryant & hogan
@Randy: I would, yes.
@Jay:
On the flip if unable to acquire Fitzgerald, would you look for another deal w/ another owner maybe alshon for Baldwin?
What about martavis for Diggs? Are you concerned with the news surrounding Bradfords knee?
—————
Or lastly a team needs a RB package my Abdullah + martavis for tyreek hill?
– my RBs are Gordon, hunt, mcaffery, Abdullah, Carson , Chris Johnson, c west
— that owners RBs are Freeman, Charles, DMC, Blount, Burkhead.
— That owners WRs are Mike Thomas, D Adams, T hill, Britt, Corey Davis & Torrey smith
@Randy: I’d want Baldwin on that deal. And yeah, I do like Diggs a lot and he’d be over Bryant for me. I’d also do that deal for Hill.
Jay,
In a half-PPR 12-teamer, I have risk reward RBs in Mccaffrey and Mixon, with Burkhead, Mack, and Carson on my bench. Season long I like my odds and want to be patient, but I feel like I need a true RB to balance my elite line of receivers (Julio, Baldwin, Tate, Garcon, Ginn, Galloday, Britt)….
What kind of trade would you shoot for in this scenario? As in who would you try to trade for?
@Norm MacDonald: Yeah, a lot of RBs that could work out, but will take their time in doing so. I’d try to move Tate and Galloday+ one of your RBs for a T2 guy, like a Gurley or something. See if that works.
Okay, so I’m the guy who lost both Johnson and Robinson and drafted Luck. You wrote the lede for guys like me and I’m trying to rebuild a 1/2R/3W/no flex 12 man PPR team.
To get my kicker, I need to drop one of the following:
Palmer/Luck
Shady/Powell/Buck/Kamara (DJ in IR slot)
Hilton/Jeffery/Garcon/Marshall/Lee
Eifert
Though Kamara is ranked lower by most in ROS, I need an RB2 to emerge and if he can stay ahead of Peterson, I think he could eventually pass Powell. Marshall or Lee both make my stomach turn. Like you I’m leaning against consensus to keep Lee instead of Marshall mostly because he is a (theoretical) #1 and younger. But neither did anything in the box score to give me much hope. ARob got hurt in the first series of the game and Lee only got 4 targets. Marshall COULD be better if ODB is around, or he could be even more irrelevant. I worry I will have to drop Luck eventually. I can wait until week 6 (when Eifert goes on bye) for his upside but would likely drop him there for a backup TE.
So, I guess the question who is your drop: Kamara, Luck, Lee or Marshall
Thanks for any thoughts. It helps me to Razzball around to work these things out.
@the imp: Yeah, in your case, it’s fine to take gambles and see if a RB2 materializes from your depth. And yeah, I do like Lee there. I think I’d drop Marshall, then Luck depending on the next few week’s news.
Standard league flex position: D Jackson (TB), McCaffrey, or B Powell?
@thegreater: Feeling Powell, but double check my Sunday morning rankings just in case.
Jay – quick opinion on flex start pls for Tom – half PPR, 2wr, 2rb, 1flex
WR – D Adams, Marshall, M Bryant (Hopkins already locked)
RB – Gordon, Ajayi, West, Cohen.
Starting RBs obvious. But leaning Cohen for flex, starting Adams as other WR.
Make sense? Cheers bud.
@Mike: Yeah, I’m good with that lineup. Cheers!
Hey Jay — checking some other posts & noticed alot some love/hate for Garcon. I’m debating starting him or Kupp for week 2. You have Garcon well above Kupp in your ranks but another Razzer has Garcon as a ‘sit’ this week. thoughts?
@Nick: Sup Nick… it’s a case by case situation. He’s on that line of guys. He’s like *the* viable target there and I’m expecting to see some of that tomorrow. It’s a tough matchup though, I have to admit it. I’d say, start Kupp for risk/reward in PPR.
Which QB would you use until Luck comes back:
Cousins
Alex Smith
Dak
Rivers
Looking to upgrade at TE. Trade E. Decker and C. Fleener for D. Walker?
Which side do u prefer?
C. Carson/D. Parker/D. Walker for D. Mixon/ T. Kelce
Thanks
