What are you ranking? Everything! You get a ranking, you get a ranking, everybody gets a ranking! You’ll find my Standard, Half-PPR, PPR, and IDP rankings below.

What about auction values? Glad you asked me! Or I’m glad I asked myself! You can find our auction values here

What are my rankings bona fidas? Well, there’s finishing in the FantasyPros Top-10 Draft Accuracy (7th Place) in 2017, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy (23rd Place) in 2017, Top-5 Draft Accuracy (3rd place) in 2016, Top-10 Weekly Accuracy (10th Place) in 2016, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy in 2015 (21st Place) and on average we’ve finished in the Top-10 Draft Accuracy (9th Overall) and the Top-20 Weekly Accuracy (18th Overall) for the past three years. I’d like to think we’re pretty good at this stuff…

What does the word bona fidas mean? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, bo·na fi·des \ ˌbō-nə-ˈfī-ˌdēz , ÷ˈbō-nə-ˌfīdz \ means 1 : good faith : sincerity, 2 : the fact of being genuine —often plural in construction, 3 : evidence of one’s good faith or genuineness —often plural in construction, 4 : evidence of one’s qualifications or achievements —often plural in construction. On a separate note, I think it would make a great name for a cat.

What’s my ranking process? I’ve actually written about this in the past, and instead of working hard for new and enlightening content, I have chosen the more efficient (lazy, ahem) method and dropping in a link to that post here. Honestly, my process hasn’t changed much at all (the ole “don’t fix what ain’t broke” proverb comes to mind) and so my “A Day in the Life of a Fantasy Football Ranker” story still remains relevant to this day. (The TL;DR is: I’m ghetto as fudge. Well, I mean the other “f” word, but I’m hungry.)

How should I use your rankings? The same way your mother does. Which actually makes no sense. (Unless your mother is in the running to always finish top-3 in your Fantasy Football league. And if that’s the case, say hello to her for me.)

The Razzball Fantasy Football Commenter Leagues are still open, join today!

I am in a .5 ppr league and roster C. McCaffery I am wondering if it is necessary for me to carry CJA on my bench for handcuff purposes ? It is very possible that I will need that spot for Bortles since I have Wentz and he could possibly miss week 1. My other backs are Gordon, Lewis, Johnson and Barber so I doubt I would play CJA unless injuries occur.

    Thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Jake: I think it’s wise to do so… but I’m not crazy about the roster that leaves you with in Week 1. I think it’s safe to pass on CJA here and try to see if you can pick him back up.

I’m in a 12 tm PPR keeper league where you keep player in round he was drafted. My two keepers are Theilen (Round 10) and McKinnon (Round 7). We also have no Flex (not my idea).

Just wondering how you’d attack first two picks if you are drafting from the below pool of players (based off keepers and known draft picks):

RBs: Joe Mixon, Jordan Howard, LeSean McCoy
WRs: Evans, Diggs, Hilton, Baldwin, Fitz
    TEs: Gronk, Kelce

There’s also a chance Davante Adams will be there so if he’s there I’d probably go Adams & Mixon. But not sure if any of the receivers would be worth it if he’s off the board. I’m almost positive I’d be able to get a Tate/Cooper/Landry w/ my 3rd round pick if I waited.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Pat: Yeah, I like the way you think and Adams/Mixon combo seems good. And yeah, I agree, if Adams isn’t there, waiting till the third isn’t a bad idea.

      • Pat says:
        (link)

        @Jay: Thanks for the help!

So say Adams is gone and I grab Mixon with 1 of my 2 picks and wait to grab somebody like Tate in Round 3. Would you double up on RB w/ the other pick with McCoy or Howard? or go Gronk?

Now that I’m saying (typing) out loud, maybe I would just pick an Evans or Baldwin w/ my other pick.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Pat: Depends what’s there, but I don’t mind taking a risk with McCoy or Howard there, in that order.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Pat: I always love Baldwin, generally is underrated in drafts and still gets up there in the points.

@brian: Gah! Sorry Jay. meant you, not MB!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@brian: Haha, no worries… MB would probably know better in a format this deep, but Josh Allen’s name sticks out on that list. Either LA defense is actually pretty good this year, especially in deep leagues. I feel like Luke Willson is an okay play at TE based on matchups, but it can be fickle attention sometimes.

Picking keepers for my .5 PPR dynasty league. Already keeping some top RBs/WRs so I don’t have a ton of extra budget space to work with.

Do any of these seem worthwhile to keep at the price point: Luck for $13; Watson for $22; Kelce for $26? Or just ditch them all and burn it down? Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Will: Is it a 260 budget? I’m assuming so, and if that’s the case, 13 for Luck seems like solid value. I don’t mind dropping the rest though.

Jay , my friend of pre-season rankings ^^
nice post … cause we are not sleepers at draft time ^^

here is the deal: DRAFT in 5 hours
    keeper league -8 teams
i won last year – my best season EVER…
    down to 5 keepers :
    RB : Gurley – Hunt – Kamara
    WR : A.Brown – Dv.Adams

so i’m pretty much set with 5 players in top 20 ^^

    now i pick 8/9th :
advise is to go RB/WR or WR/WR and wait next round for QB/TE at pick23/24th
knowing 5/8teams do not have a QB keeper: they would go after Russel/Cam/ Deshaun before me ! leaving me some RB/WR to pick
but if Russell/Cam/DeShaun are avb here? could be a better strat for me : QB/ best value avb?

in case it’s RB/WR : your rankings say- knowing the best should be gone by then :
    Barkley (gone 1st pick ? ^^)
    TYHilton
    Mixon –> my objective
    Diggs
    McKinnon
    D.Baldwin –> my objective
    A.Collins –> or this one?
    Allen Robinson
LSMCoy –> OLDIE but goodie ?
    D.Henry
    M.Jones
    Fitgerald –> OLDIE but goodie?
    L.Miller
    B.Cooks –> upside ?

Hogan –> you have him HIGH !!!
R.Freeman (to early ? or future star)
    Coleman
    R.Anderson –> nice ADP/value

    D.Lewis
    Burkhead
    C.Davis –> you’re LOW on him?

    Jeffery –> Week 1?
    Kupp –> Reach?

    if I snatch a QB in round 8 : Wentz/Cousins/Luck ?
    What about StafforD? Det

TE : Engram (was on my last year team) would be gone by then ,Olsen may be gone as well
    but a D.Walker, Rudoplh? Burton? Njoku? round 9 ? later ?

    in a perfect world, i’d land top5QB/Balwin
    else : Collins/Hogan? then QB/TE: Stafford /Walker ?

    thanks Nick

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Nick: I’d go RB/WR based on that info. And I like your priorities list here.

      TYHilton
      Mixon –> my objective
      Diggs
      McKinnon
      D.Baldwin –> my objective
      A.Collins –> or this one?
      Allen Robinson
LSMCoy –> OLDIE but goodie ?

That order you have there works for me.

I like those three in that order, but I don’t mind waiting on Luck to see where his value is at. And I’m okay waiting a little bit longer on QB. And Walker is a safe value play at that round I think. Collins and then Walker if those are the choices.

      • Nick says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

        OK JAY,

        here is how i landed
ALL TOP WR were gone round1! so i decided to go QB / best value:
        i choose
QB1: DeShaun : was on my team last year, and i think i can afford his value at round 6 with my keepers
took him over Russell (Reid AND Zach’s bust) and Cam (Zach’s Breakout)
        and
RB: Alex Collins – was on my team last year
over McCoy (Reid’s bust)- maybe i should have taken Allen Robinson? …. but

        then
        WR : i reached a bit on Hogan – MB’s target for round 5
TE: picked Rudolph over Walker (injured?) – Reid’s hot take : will finish the season as TE1 overall (and could be an upgrade in ’18 over Engram i had last season)
WR : R.Anderson – volume guy – in my team last year
WR: C.Kupp – volume guy – in my team last year
WR: Marquise GoodWin – value >>ADP steal of draft pick96???
TE2: NJOKU – Reid’s hot take : ends the season as TE 8 overall
couldnt get no Luck (pick92), and Wentz(95) few picks before me

        then i got lost , cause of Y! rankings / ADP / Projections …

RB : T.Coleman – best value on board – not FULLY IN – behind Devonta in ATL
        RB: P.Barber – Zach’sleeper: Barber is the perfect low-risk, high-upside pick
WR :Anthony.Miller -Roto-wan buzz : the Antonio Brown comps have only just begun.! and Reid’s hot take : finishes the season as a top-30 PPR WR this season
        QB2: A.Smith – Reid’s hot take : will finish the season a top-6 Fantasy QB in WAS.
        QB3: J.Goff !!! – Zach’s sleeper

last desperate pick was … GodWin !! Reid ‘s extreme HOT TAKE : Chris Godwin ends the season with more points than Mike Evans.

i have NO Kicker and no DEF!
        i’d take Atlanta …or Seattle… or Chicago?
and Fairbairn …or Lambo …or Gould
        checking Rudy’s projections

        WHO i’d drop
        last pick Godwin ?
Barber or Miller … or J.Goff
or trade Coleman? pick another Free Agent duh?
what do you think about some shares of Albert Wilson WR MIA ,,, in case of a BREAKOUT !! if DV Parker can’t GO week1…?
        Nick

        @Jay:

just to make it easier to read:

        QB: DeShaun
        RB1: Gurley
        RB2: Kamara
        WR1: A.Brown
        WR2: Dv.Adams
        WR3: C.Hogan
        TE: Rudolph
        Util: HUNT RB
        Util: A.Collins RB
BENCH (valuable / bye weeks replacement)
        C.Kupp WR/ R.Anderson WR/Njoku TE/M.Goodwin WR
        BENCH : T.Coleman / P.Barber RB
        BENCH : A.Miller WR
        BENCH : A.Smith / J.Goff QB
        BENCH : C.Godwin WR

        please drop 2 to pick a DEF/Kicker :
        +
GOTKOWSKI just got released !? consensus #1 kicker!
i’ll use my #1 waiver claim … for Godwin

            @Jay:

who should i drop? looking at my team
i think maybe Coleman and Goff are the expendables?
Godwin could have a breakout year

Gotkow has arm injury ? he can still kick !!! ^^
Chris Boswell released on waiver as well
            so which Kicker ? –> Gotkow/Boswell/Gould,,, who cares? :)

First time on the Football side of Razzball, do you ever do draft strategy?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Dutchmen: Generally, most of our content right now kinda touches on strategy. Are you wondering about specific strategy during a draft?

      • Dutchmen says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

Yes, first time in a football league and just wonder when to take guys. QBs early? RB are heavy so you can wait a few rounds. Any general rules that might help me.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Dutchmen: Yeah, I’ll ping my guys to see if we can get a post out on this. I still like RB/RB/WR this year, but I think if the draft materializes a certain way, RB/WR/RB is strong too. You’ll run into a lot of YMMV answers, just the nature of it, but I think if you’re looking for a combo, those two work.

My WR depth is lacking at the moment. I have Marquise Lee, Godwin and Tawan taylor on my bench. Should I drop one of them for Christian Kirk or James Washington?

    .5 PPR. Thanks :)

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@bobby: I don’t mind Godwin for Kirk, but at this point, it’s a bit lateral. I might just hold and see how things change as we get deeper into the preseason.

  14. dt says:
    (link)

    hey Jay!

I got a keeper question for you. 12 team ppr with 2 flex spots. I’ve got the 9th pick in a snake draft. I can either keep Hopkins in the 2nd round (16th pick), or keep one of Juju, Dion Lewis, Chris Hogan, Jamison Crowder in the the 16th round (last round of our draft).

I was leaning towards Juju as my keeper, but as the offseason progresses I’ve been tempted to keep Hopkins and hopefully get a stud RB with my 1st pick (though Gurley, OBJ, Zeke, Kamara, and Thomas will most likely be kept). Also, the Lewis hype is getting crazy and was wondering if maybe that would be an alternative option.

    What are your thoughts?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@dt: Yeah, I think Hopkins represents pretty strong value, even at the 2nd. I’m okay with this. I’m okay with the Lewis hype, but right now, I’m staying neutral.

  15. Steve D. says:
    (link)

12 team keeper, keep 2, single point PPR, $200 budget, player can be kept for a maximum of 3 years

I’m looking to keep Corey Davis, but then it’s a toss up. I could keep Keenum at $6 as my backup, roll Ajayi one more time, or go a little more conservative and keep Duke. Mike Willams at $6 is also an option. Thoughts?

    player, 2018 cost, (years kept)

    Kelvin Benjamin $33
    Jordy Nelson $23 (2)
    Sammy Watkins $23
    D.Henry $22
    Emmanuel Sanders $20
    Abdullah $17
    Duke Johnson $15
    Jay Ajayi $12 (1)
    Corey Coleman $10
    Chris Davis $8
    Prosise $7
    John Ross $6
    James Conner $6
    Case Keenum $6
    Mike Williams $6
    Brett Hundley $6
    Jesse James $6

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Steve D.: Based on value, yeah, I like your thinking. I’m fine with either, but am leaning Ajayi there. For Keenum, it depends on how much the QB2’s go for in your league, but that seems like a good fit. If it’s around the average, I’d probably settle for Williams in that case.

      • Steve D. says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

We have a superflex where we can start a second QB, so even though passing TDs are 4 points and not 6, a guy like Keenum will likely go for $18-20 at auction if past history holds. I’d most likey just apply that savings to grabbing a top line RB.

  16. Allan says:

    Hey Jay!

Standard non-PPR league. I get three keepers. I am going with Kareem Hunt and Julio Jones.

Trying to decide between Davante Adams and AJ Green for the third. I see you have Davante Adams ranked higher than AJ Green. I kind of want to go with Adams, but AJ is AJ. What do you think?

    • Jay

In an 8 team half point ppr money league. Drafting next week. What’s my strategy? Draft BPA for the first 4 rounds? Wait on QB and TE? No handcuffing? Just draft starters? The ww will be very deep.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Dave Funnell: Yeah, in 8 teamers, you don’t care about QBs or TEs, and handcuffs end up being RB1’s and high-end 2’s. I think you just do what you said here, BPA.

  20. Dan says:
    (link)

    Jay,
In my first year of PPR keeper league – my keepers are Ertz – 6th round & Kamara – 11th.

I have done really well trading away players for picks and own 9 picks in first 5 rounds. I specifically have two firsts (9th and 10th), a second, two thirds, two fourths and two fifths. What would your strategy & thoughts be for the first round and overall? Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Dan: I like the two keepers you have. I think you still go win with the BPA mindset. It’s nice that you have one RB, I don’t mind still going RB/WR/RB here. You can change it around based on your flex rules to be WR/RB/WR as well, but the personnel has to be right.

      • Dan says:
        (link)

@Jay: Thanks for getting back to me Jay! It seems like a win win situation, and just keep adding talented players. Would you still wait for a QB? I have so many picks in the first 9 rounds that I could grab one early and still have quality talent.

  21. Shaggy says:
    (link)

I have a very cheap keeper roster and am looking to go with a stars and scrubs strategy. I’m going to spend big on three players. I was looking to get Gurley, Barkley, and either Beckham or Jones, but I’m also considering going Gurley, Barkley, and Chris Johnson at the expense of my WR slot. What do you think?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Shaggy: I like your second iteration. I think if you go the S&S approach, bulking up on RBs inherently gives you better options in case the injury bug threatens your top-heavy lineup.

  22. Baby Blue says:
    (link)

    Hi,

Just found out I got 10th pick in a 14 tm half ppr league. And after doing a couple mocks, I’ve quickly realized that this is quite an awful pick to have and just don’t know how to attack it from this draft slot.

Just wondering how you’d go about your first two picks if you had 10th pick in a 14 tm league. Do you typically RB/RB, RB/WR, WR/WR to start? Seeing what is likely to come back to me with my 3rd and 4th picks (nothing great) makes hitting on my first two picks that much more important.

    Thanks for any advice!!

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Baby Blue: Yeah, it can get kinda muddled at the end of the draft. YMMV of course, the real draft will most likely be quite different, but I’m okay going WR/RB or RB/WR here if the tiers don’t quite matchup with what’s available. You need a mix… and don’t be afraid to reach for a 14-18 guy you’re targeting, remember, after the turn, you won’t be drafting for quite a while (which is why a split is recommended too.)

    PPR 10-team keeper FAAB league. Rosters are 2QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2Flex, 1DST

    My best keeper options are:
Cam (option @$18) roster slot QB1
    Gurley (option @$38) RB1
    Fitzgerald (2yr @$24) WR2
    Delanie Walker (2yr @$10) TE
    Woods (2yr @$10) Flex1

Note that rules dictate keepers can be kept for 3 years w/ an option of a 4th year at 1.5x their value. That’s what I mean by option. For instance, I have Russell Wilson & AB who have no options left. Also have Julio Jones but his option price will be 1.5x $53 = $80. I don’t have to keep 5 but that is the max. Other options are:

McKinnon (2yr @$45), think can be had for cheaper at auction
    Sanu (2yr @$10)
    Tate (2yr @$30)
    Burkhead (2yr @$25)
    Snead (2yr @$16)
    Curtis Samual (2yr @$5)

Who would you keep in my shoes. Outside of my top 3, its a little bleh.

Question 2…trade offer on the table:
    Cam

    for

    Goff (1yr @$11 + option yr @$17)
    Tyreek Hill (1yr @$10 + option yr @$15)

Great value players for Cam, I think, but I’m hesitant. QB is the most important position because we start 2 and the scoring system which is 6 pts per TD, .5 pts per completion, plus bonuses. The majority of all wins is the result of good QB performance. This offer is coming from a team who has numerous keeper options such as Kamara, McCaffrey, Landry, Thielen, Marvin Jones, so it remains to be seen whether he is giving up anybody that cannot be had at auction albeit for a higher auction value no doubt. Going into auction having to chase a QB1 (top 10) will be very costly, at least $50. Currently with a $250 budget and the 5 keepers above that will leave me with $150 to fill in roster slots: QB2, RB2, WR1, WR3, Flex2, Dst, 7 bench spots. A lot to consider as you know.

    Thanks in advance.

@David: Yeah, I know how you feel. In this regard, I’m holding. In 2 QB leagues, and I can’t stress this enough to those who play this format, players need to be drafting 2 QB’s in the first round unless it’s there is a top-3 RB or WR there, and even then, you should wait until the second round for those.

Suffice it to say, I think you keep Cam here.

    Hey Jay,

Your content is excellent. In a half point PPR keeper league where we can keep two players a year for 2 rounds earlier (top 2 picks can be kept for their respective values) who do you prefer rounds 1 and 2?

    Antonio Brown and Joe Mixon
    or
    Saquan Barkley and Mike Evans

    Thanks!

Jay, I need some help with my keepers. We get to keep 2 in a std league, but Im stuck on who the 2 should be, I feel like they’re all good value.
    My options are:
    Kareem Hunt (3rd Round)
    Jordan Howard (6th)
    Josh Gordon (9th)
    Robert Woods (9th)
    Alex Collins (9th)
    Chris Carson (11th)

Looking for advice on my first round pick. It’s a keeper league, where you can keep one of each position in the round drafted (but can’t keep first rounders). It is a 1/2 PPR league. Starting lineup is 2 RB, 2WR and Flex.

I have Jordan Howard and Keenan Allen to keep already. I have the 6th pick in the draft. After keepers and the top five picks, I will be left with Fournette, Julio Jones and Odell Beckham to pick from. I’m thinking Fournette because in the second round, I would be very lucky if McKinnon or Mixon were available, leaving me with the Drake/Collins/Ajai types as my second RB. Whereas, I think Amari Cooper/Baldwin/Hill/Thielen could be available as my second WR.

Please let me know if you would go with Fournette, Beckham or Jones in this situation. Thanks.

      (link)

@Bobbay: I wouldn’t. I hate carrying handcuffs because they only have value if there’s an injury so it feels like a waste of a spot. Those 3 other guys could all have stand alone value without needing someone to get hurt. I know it’s nerve racking – I had David Johnson AND Dalvin Cook last season and I got Kerywynn Williams and McKinnon as their handcuffs off the wire and it still didn’t matter.

You need to ride Gurley, and hope for the best. And when at least 1 of those 3 guys bust out (most likely Williams) you’ll be glad you kept them

Jay, Rudy — something is off with the QB auction values for 1/2 PPR as all are at $0 value, other than Rodgers who is at $3 (10 team), $5 (12 team) and $8 (14 team).

Would a simple fix be to use the same QB values in PPR for 1/2 PPR?

    Thanks!

    • hmm, will try and fix that tonight. must be on my end vs jay’s. yup, QB $ values should be more or less the same.

Jay! Here we go again. Quick question. League with 4 IDP spots in which you can use any combo of DL/LB/DB. You pretty much ignore DL and scratch them off of your list correct? Just stick with the LB and high level safeties?

    1 point per tackle
    .5 per assist
    3 for sack
    3 for forced fumble
    3 for fumble recovery
    3 for interception
    6 for td

    Hi Jay,
I would love to get your thoughts on my 12 team 3 wr with a flex ppr league. Thank you for everything
    QB- Mahomes
    RB- Jay Ajayi
    RB- Royce Freeman
    WR- Deandre Hopkins
    WR- Keenan Allen
    WR- Doug Baldwin
    FLEX- Golden Tate
    D/ST- NO Saints
    K- Jake Elliot
    Bench
Tevin Coleman, Rex Burkhead, Kerryon Johnson, Marlon Mack
DJ Moore, Anthony Miller, Christian Kirk

@Connor: Not digging the RBS, but your WR group should be awesome. I think you’ll have a great shot with some quick waiver wire moves for a RB upgrade. Jamaal Williams is someone to look at for example. Also Mahomes is a bit risky. What QBs are left on the wire?

Definitely a PPR heavy squad. Coleman/Burkhead may end up being your best RB duo.

    Jay,

What do you think about Noah Spence this season as a DL in an IDP league where we start LB, LB, DE, DE, DB, DB – 16 team league.

I drafted: Kuechly/Wagner, Collins/Harrison Smith, Cameron Jordan/Everson Griffen, so I’m pretty happy with that, but I know you were high on Spence last year and he apparently has put on 35 pounds of muscle in the off-season or something crazy like that. Is he gonna be better than Griffen?

    thanks

    Brent

Looking at your rankings – I’m wondering when you draft QBs? Do you actually taker kickers before them? In a 14 team standard league league, what QBs would you target and in which round(s)?

Thanks for your rankings! Really helped me out with my first draft.

In a standard 12 team league, 3 WR spots. I need at least one more WR, drafted too many RB’s. Would you drop one or both of Devontae Booker or Giovani Bernard for Cobb, Tyrell Williams, DeSean Jackson, Anthony Miller, Sanu, Hurns, or Ginn Jr?

Also, I have Matt Ryan as a backup QB with Cam as the starter. Is it necessary to have a backup QB? If so, would you switch out Marty Ice for Luck, Mariota, or Alex Smith?

    Thank you!

Always look forward to your rankings every year, Jay. Thanks.

It looks like there may be a small glitch in the 8/31 update of 1/2 ppr rankings as you don’t list a QB until Arron Rogers at 115th overall.

  43. Blake says:

Wil you be updating these rankings today? still have McKinnon in there so wasn’t sure about the rest – have a draft this afternoon
