In this edition of the preseason fantasy football Top 150 PPR rankings, we discuss the latest moves in NFL free agency and how they will impact fantasy football next season. Not only did we see some big names, especially at the running back position move to new teams, but we also saw major trades that could impact the 2024 season as well.

After this week, we will continue to navigate NFL free agency before moving on to the NFL draft. Let’s dive in!

Players on the Move!

  • Player: Keenan Allen
  • Team: Chicago Bears
  • Overall Ranking: 48 (ECR 37)

Multiple factors turn Keenan Allen from a WR1 to a backend WR2. First, he will no longer be the undisputed WR1 on his team. We can at best hope for a 1a/1b situation with D.J. Moore.

Second, Allen is leaving one of the most pass-happy offenses with the Chargers going to an Offensive Coordinator in Shane Waldron who was right around league average in pass attempts each of the past two seasons. This has resulted in his two top WRs (D.K. Metcalf/Tyler Lockett) finishing WR19/WR24 in 2021, WR15/WR23 in 2022 and WR22/WR40 in 2023.

  • Player: Saquon Barkley
  • Team: Philadelphia Eagles
  • Overall Ranking: 17 (ECR 20)

As of today, I landed ahead of ECR on Saquon Barkley, and I don’t have him in round 1. The main reason why we should temper our expectations of him and why he’s not a round 1 pick is the pass game usage.

Jalen Hurts’ lead backs Miles Sanders (26) and D’Andre Swift (49) failed to crack the top 20 in targets. This has been Barkley’s bread and butter and what makes him special for fantasy. Since he entered the league in 2018, Barkley has been in the top 10 in PPR PPG four times. In those seasons, his lowest 17 game pace for targets was 73.

  • Player: Kirk Cousins
  • Team: Atlanta Falcons
  • Overall Ranking: 134 (ECR 121)

A player I will not be drafting in 2024 is Kirk Cousins. Cousins is a great move the for Falcons from an NFL standpoint, but for his fantasy value, it’s a downgrade.

First, going from Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson to Drake London, Kyle Pitts, and Bijan Robinson is a hit to his fantasy value.

Next, the entire team will be learning a new system under new OC Zac Robinson. This coupled with the fact that Cousins coming off a serious injury and could be limited this off-season could lead to lead to a slower start for this pass game in 2024.
