Slot Matchup Upgrades
Team: New Orleans Saints
Opponent: Tennessee Titans
Matchup Upgrade: Deonte Harris
Deonte Harris has quickly emerged as the top target in New Orleans since his return to the lineup in Week 8. In back-to-back weeks Harris has seen 7 targets in each game. This includes a solid 6-62 last week vs. the Falcons. The usage hasn’t been there just yet as Harris has only run the 5th most routes on the team during this span. The good news for Harris is his nearly 9 points per game in PPR has come vs. below average matchups as the Buccaneers (31st) and Falcons (24th) in PPG allowed to the slot over the past 5 weeks.
This week Harris gets a solid matchup vs. a Titans DST that has allowed the 4th most points to the slot. Notable slot WRs Cooper Kupp (7-98), Cole Beasley (7-88-1) and Zach Pascal (5-43) have performed well vs. the Titans over the past few weeks. Currently ranked outside the top 50 according to Fantasy Pros expert consensus rankings, Harris could be viewed as a solid WR4 this week.
Team: New England Patriots
Opponent: Cleveland Browns
Matchup Upgrade: Jakobi Meyers
Jakobi Meyers has been a feature in this article nearly every week as a matchup downgrade as his schedule has been brutal so far in 2021. Over the past 5 weeks Meyers has faced the 3rd toughest slot schedule with his opponents allowing an average 8.3 PPG to the slot in .5 PPR. This has led to very underwhelming performances as Meyers has failed to top 10 points in a game since Week 5. On flip side, Meyers has provided solid floor from a PPR perspective catching 4-5 passes while averaging around 45 yards in these contests.
Heading into Week 10 Meyers will see his first plus matchup in well over a month. The Browns over the past 5 weeks have allowed the 9th most points to the slot. This includes solid games from Christian Kirk (5-75-1) and Keenan Allen (6-75) from the inside. Currently ranked outside the top 36 WRs according to Fantasy Pros ECR, Meyers makes for a solid WR3 play this week in his first plus matchup in a long time.
Team: Cleveland Browns
Opponent: New England Patriots
Matchup Upgrade: Jarvis Landry
Jarvis Landry fell way short of expectation last week after the Browns didn’t have to do much through the air. The Browns threw just 21 times as they routed the Bengals 41-16. Even on the limited volume Landry paced the team with 5 targets giving him a solid 24% target share on the week. This should lead to more volume in the coming weeks as the Browns will rarely throw just 21 times in a game.
In Week 10 the Browns will face off vs. the Patriots. The Patriots over the past 5 weeks have allowed the 12th most points to the slot. A lot of this has to do with the loss of top slot CB Jonathan Jones. Notable primary interior WRs to face the Patriots to have solid days on the inside include Keenan Allen (6-77-1) and Jaylen Waddle (4-64-1). Currently ranked as the WR29 on the week, Landry is a solid WR3 play for Week 10.
Slot Matchup Downgrades
Team: Denver Broncos
Opponent: Philadelphia Eagles
Matchup Downgrade: Jerry Jeudy
Jerry Jeudy has immediately become the go to target once again for Teddy Bridgewater since his return back in Week 8. Jeudy leads the Broncos in targets (12) and receptions (10) while averaging 54 yards per game. Jeudy is still running behind Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick as he’s third in routes. However, Jeudy has seen 12 targets on just 48 routes over that span. Jeudy has been regulated mostly to the slot during these first two games seeing 75% of his routes on the inside.
This week the matchup could be difficult for Jeudy to have a big day as the Eagles have been very tough for inside WRs. The Eagles over the last 5 weeks have allowed the 4th fewest points to the inside. This includes holding down Chris Godwin (5-43) and limiting Keenan Allen under 40 slot yards in his big game last week. Jeudy’s usage will probably make him a borderline WR3, but the tough matchup should cap his upside for Week 10.
Team: Arizona Cardinals
Opponent: Carolina Panthers
Matchup Downgrade: Christian Kirk
Heading into Week 10 the Cardinals skill position group is really banged up. DeAndre Hopkins is still dealing with a hamstring, Rondale Moore has missed practice due to neck/concussion and Chase Edmonds is out with an ankle injury. This lack of weapons could help push Christian Kirk back onto the WR3 map. For now, we are going to assume at least 1 of these guys will be back along with A.J. Green who has been activated off the COVID list. Either way it could be tough sledding for Kirk who is coming off a nice day (6-91) vs. the 49ers as the defacto lead WR.
This week the Cardinals take on the Carolina Panthers. The Panthers have allowed the 10th fewest points to the WR position overall and to the slot over the past 5 weeks. Recent primary interior WRs that have struggled vs. this Panthers secondary include Jakobi Meyers (1-8) and Russell Gage (0-0). Currently ranked as the WR30 on the week, Kirk might struggle find WR3 value in Week 10 vs. Carolina.
Team: Atlanta Falcons
Opponent: Dallas Cowboys
Matchup Downgrade: Russell Gage
Since the news broke about Calvin Ridley, Russell Gage has emerged as an asset in PPR leagues. In 2 of the 3 games since his return to the lineup, Gage has produced 13 PPR fantasy points. Of course, the other game was a (0-0) performance in Week 8, but he did see his playing time spike in Week 9 to 81% of the snaps. Gage is going to be a solid PPR play most weeks until Calvin Ridley returns but based on his floor he might be best viewed as a matchup dependent WR3 in PPR formats.
This week the Falcons take on the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys this season have been solid vs. interior WRs and over the last 5 weeks have allowed just 8.6 PPG to the slot. Notable interior WRs Jerry Jeudy (6-69) and Jakobi Meyers (5-44) have been held modest days vs. the Cowboys secondary. Currently ranked as the WR39 according Fantasy Pros ECR, Gage is best left on benches for Week 10.
