Quarterbacks

  • Player: Russell Wilson
  • Game: vs. NY Jets
  • Stats: 16/29, 264 passing yards, 2 TDs, 1 rushing TD

He made quite the impression in front of the Steeler faithful. Wilson brings a refined passing ability that Justin Fields does not. In a matchup against the Jets, who allow the third-fewest points to QBs, Wilson finished as the QB1 in fantasy. As long as Wilson remains the QB, the Steelers offense should have increased fantasy appeal, especially Georg Pickens. Russ should be able to cook against the Giants at home before his Week 9 bye.

  • Player: Drake Maye
  • Game: at Jacksonville
  • Stats: 26/37, 276 passing yards, 2 TDs

After sitting his first five games, Maye has five TDs in two games. He’s performed admirably against less-than-stellar defenses (Texans and Jaguars) to quarterbacks. He’s technically on a 30-TD pace if he continues his play. However, I don’t think that’s the case as his next three games are against the Jets, Titans, and Bears. The Jets and Bears each rank as the top-three defenses against QBs and Titans allow the 12th-fewest points.

Notables:

Jordan Love led all quarterbacks with three passing touchdowns in Week 7 against Houston. The Texans have allowed the second-most passing touchdowns to quarterbacks this season. He has continued his streak of multiple TDs in every game this season. He has a mouth-watering matchup against Jacksonville, who give up the most points to quarterbacks. I would like to see him limit the turnovers, but that might be who he is.

Josh Allen reminded his haters that he’s still an excellent QB. The Titans limit QBs to 151 yards and one TD on a per-game basis entering their matchup with the Bills. Allen finished with 323 yards and two TDs. He has a tough matchup in Seattle who kept the Falcons passing attack at bay and forced three turnovers by Kirk Cousins.

Jameis Winston is back in our fantasy lives, and I love it. I Hate to see injuries but I think Browns Backers will enjoy a new-look offense around Winston and a healthy Nick Chubb. He’ll have a perfect opportunity to showcase his talents versus the Ravens who have allowed the second-most points to QBs. He’s worth streamer consideration.

C.J. Stroud crapped the bed for his shareholders on the road in Green Bay. Nico Collins might be more important than we realized. The Packers are proving to be tough outs for QBs as Trevor Lawrence will have his hands full against them next week. Stroud should rebound against the Colts, who allow the 10th-most points to opposing QBs.

Running Backs

  • Player: Jahmyr Gibbs
  • Game: at Minnesota
  • Stats: 15 carries, 116 rushing yards, 2 rushing TD; 4 receptions, 44 receiving yards

Sonic and Knuckles are hands down two of the best nicknames I’ve heard in a long time. As the Sonic moniker, Gibbs showed us why he’s the lead in the show. I wasn’t expecting this type of output against the Vikings who allow the second-fewest points to RBs and have given up one 100-yard back this season. We all know Gibbs is studly, but his best game of the season was surprising since he competes with Knuckles for touches. The duo has a tough task against the Titans who haven’t allowed an opposing RB to rush over 51 yards over the last four games.

  • Player: Breece Hall
  • Game: at Pittsburgh
  • Stats: 12 carries, 36 yards, 1 rushing TD, 6 receptions, 106 receiving yards

Hall looked to be the biggest beneficiary of the Davante Adams trade. Pittsburgh is on the better defense against opposing RBs, limiting them to the fifth-fewest points and only two rushing scores entering the game. Hall was able to cross the goal line after a nifty run but a negative game script forced him to rely on his pass-catching prowess. Hall will be the focal point in the offense against the Patriots who allow the third-most points to RBs.

Notables:

Saquon Barkley was motivated against the Giants, rushing for a season-high 176 yards and an absurd 10 yards per carry. New York allowed only 81.7 yards per game to RBs before this game. Barkley will face Cincinnati who are mid against RBs but allowed Chubb to score a TD in his first game this season.

I was way off about Joe Mixon entering this season. He’s an RB1. Mixon has rushed over 100 yards and scored at least one TD in three of four healthy games played this season. Look for more of the same from Mixon next week against Indianapolis who allow fifth-most rushing yards to RBs.

We should have an RB controversy in Jacksonville. Bigsby performed as we expected against the Patriots who allowed the fifth-most points to RBs. In four games that were one-possession games or a Jags win, Bigsby is averaging 95 rushing yards with four scores.

Atlanta’s defense is a bend but don’t break type, but could not contain the birthday boy, Kenneth Walker III who scored two TDs. His last four matchups have been below average but he’s put up double-digit points in each. He finally gets a great matchup on paper against the Bills in Week 8.

Josh Jacobs got his ever-elusive receiving TD in his 80th game of his career. He’s tallied at least 18 touches over his last three games and should provide steady volume in Jacksonville.

Wide Receivers

  • Player: Brian Thomas Jr.
  • Game: vs. Patriots
  • Stats: 5 receptions, 89 receiving yards, 1 TD, 2-Pt, 5 targets

He’s that guy in Jacksonville. He’s taken over as the top target in the offense and with the return of Evan Engram, Christian Kirk’s role has diminished.  What’s exciting for BTJ’s shareholders is that he gets the easiest schedule over his next four games before his bye week. He’s a must-start player now that Lawrence has shaken off the ghosts. The Jets WR duo should have plenty of opportunities to exploit New England’s secondary that has been burned by WRs over their last four games.

  • Player: George Pickens
  • Game: vs. NY Jets
  • Stats: 5 receptions, 111 receiving yards, 1 TD, 9 targets

It’s not a coincidence he caught his first TD of the season with Wilson under center. This was an impressive stat line considering Sauce Gardner and the Jets allowed the fourth-fewest points to WRs entering this match. I don’t think this was a one-time splash with Russ, considering he threw for 26 TDs in 15 games with Denver last season. Pickens will face the Giants, a bottom-third defense to WRs, but have allowed the fourth-most TDs (7) to WRs. As for NY, I wouldn’t expect this production from a Patriots-wideout.

Notables:

I’m glad I poked the bear with Amon-Ra St. Brown. In a plus matchup against Minnesota, St. Brown went over 100 yards and scored a TD in the same game for the first time this season. The Lions’ next game is against the Titans, the hardest team for WRs on paper, but the Bills were able to move the ball against them.

Cedric Tillman (8-81) was the go-to WR for the Browns sans Amari Cooper. Jerry Juedy caught one pass. Neither are appealing options moving forward.

Over the last four games, Drake London has been the WR2 behind Ja’Marr Chase. In a tough matchup against Seattle, he found a way to score his third consecutive TD and his fifth overall. He faces Tampa for the second time this season where he completely nuts for 12 catches for 154 yards with one TD.

Cooper was serviceable in his game as a Buffalo Bill. The Titans allow the fewest points to WRs, so this should provide momentum for the Cooper-Allen connection. They will have another below-average matchup against Seattle but should approach must-start status as the alpha in Buffalo.

Romeo Doubs drew the most targets from Love facing the Texans who allow the 10th-most points to WRs. Doubs is emerging as WR3 with the potential to be WR2 in the Packer offense. Doubs’ 29 Love-targets are three fewer than Wicks and one fewer than Reed despite missing one game. It will be telling to see who Love’s favorite WR is when they go against the friendliest defense against WRs in Jacksonville.

Brandon Aiyuk is more than likely out for the season with a knee injury. Deebo Samuel Jr. left the game due to an illness. The 49ers mightily struggled without them on the field. Rookie Ricky Pearsall and Jauan Jennings make for interesting adds as they face a lackluster Dallas defense next week.

Tight Ends

  • Player: David Njoku
  • Game: vs. Bengals
  • Stats: 10 receptions, 76 receiving yards, 1 TD, 14 targets

It will be easy for Njoku to garner double-digit targets the rest of the way. He’s the best pass-catching option for the Browns and Ken Dorsey will find ways to get him the ball. Njoku gets a plus matchup at home against the Ravens who have allowed the 10th-most points to TEs. I expect Jameis Winston to start which should make for potential high-scoring AFC North bout.

Notables:

Brock Bowers is him. Without Adams, he should regularly see 10+ targets every game. He’s a must-start and gets the Chiefs next who allow the most points to TEs and watched Kittle go over 90 yards.

Kyle Pitts now has three games with at least 65 yards while the Seahawks allow the fifth-most points to TEs. Perhaps we will get a Dalton Kincaid sighting when the Bills travel to Seattle. Pitts gets a rematch in Tampa Bay, where he posted 88 yards on seven receptions.

Sam LaPorta’s struggles continued despite a top-10 TE matchup against Minnesota. Things don’t get easier against Tennessee who allow the fewest points to TEs, however, Kincaid just topped 50 yards, so it’s a 50/50 chance LaPorta performs.

Ja’Tavion Sanders has emerged as a useful TE with six targets and 50 yards in back-to-back games. He has a less-than-ideal matchup against Denver, who have shut down TEs not named Bowers.

Hunter Henry’s stock is trending up. Since Maye took over at QB he’s been a primary pass catcher. He does have a difficult upcoming three-game stretch but he’s outperformed LaPorta for what it’s worth.

Pearsall or Jennings for short term impact?

  2. Jefferson says:

I’d roll with Jennings provided his hip is healthy enough to play. He’s already shown chemistry with Purdy. I’ll be putting FAAB on Jennings ahead of Pearsall.

Would you trade a 2nd and 3rd round rookie pick in next year’s draft for Kareem Hunt? It’s a keep forever dynasty superflex league format.

Thanks and always appreciate your articles!

I would not trade a second but would consider a third for Hunt if you’re desperate for RB. Pacheco might return which will punt his value.

Would you trade a 2025 2nd & 3rd (rookie draft) for Kareem Hunt in a 14 team keep forever dynasty SF league?

My team is contending and my current RB room is Aaron Jones, Bijan, Chase Brown and a bunch of spare parts (Corum, Pierce, Perine, Jamaal Williams). 2 RB, flex and superflex are all RB eligible spots

Thanks and always enjoy your articles!

Hmm.. Pearsall or McMillon.. with 2 of my top 3 wrs either out for the year or suspended! I need some immediate and long term help.

McMillan is poised to be the top WR with Evans out as well. Once Evans returns, Baker has proven he can keep two WRs fantasy relevant.

Pearsall certainly has value but will contend with Deebo and Kittle for targets.

Any FAAB on Jalen Macmillan this week???

    • Jefferson says:

I’m comfortable spending 10%, if not more if you really need a WR.

PPR redraft, lost Aiyuk, DK who knows

Start 2 RB, 3 WR and a flex in a DEEP league with a ghost town waiver wire

I can throw all FAAB on Jennings who was dropped, throw maybe 20% of Tillman

or Trade Walker or Bijan for a WR

    My team

RB- Bijan, Walker (Bucky, Moss, CEH)
WR- Garrett Wilson, DK, Wicks (Whittington)

Wouldn’t suggest a trade unless you’re getting WR1 value or two WR2s. I would absolutely put FAAB but not all your FAAB depending where you are in the standings. Other injuries are gonna happen so you don’t wanna limit future opportunities. However, 20-25% of your FAAB should get it done.
