Like I mentioned to a few of the commenters, I just needed to sit down and hammer out these mother chuckers and I finally did it. Unfortunately, I couldn’t do any better then covering a 12 team, $200 auction set up cuz the task is daunting and I was thoroughly daunted, y’all. That said, I think it’s fair to say that if you want to get a feel for how I value these guys in, say, a 14 team league, take a price of a player from this auction set up. Let’s just pull a value out of the hat and go with Demaryius Thomas at $38. Take the total auction dollar amount available in the league for my auction values – which is $2400 – and divide DT’s $38 price tag by it to find a percentage. Now take that percentage and multiply it by the total amount available in your auction league. Let’s say it’s a 14 team one which would be $2800. That puts Demaryius at roughly a $44 price tag. Now this won’t be exact nor perfect but it’ll put you in range. Keep in mind my pricing comes with a standard auction draft strategy associated which I’ll cover tomorrow so don’t go off the rails on me saying how I wouldn’t get AP or Doug Martin at that price. These are things I already know and I’ll explain tomorrow. These are my values which come with a draft strategy associated and it would feel weird giving you a price I’d never personally pay. We clear? Good, the next point is I put guys in tiers. Would be a bit weird for me to price them apart from each other even if it were only 1 or 2 dollars. If I say I value guys the same, I really mean it. And finally, you’re gonna wonder how I price DEF and K. Well, I didn’t post them because they’re valued the same to me. Spend 2 bucks on them total in the draft. Felt silly to post them all with a 1 next to them. So with that, let’s take a look at the Auction Draft Values for a 12 team league, $200 budget for 2013 Fantasy Football…fooled! I can’t let you carry on without taking a look at signing up for our Razzball Commenter Leagues. Cool thing is, you don’t even have to comment to play. You could just silently read and we’ll never know who you are. But how much fun would that be? But I digress, that link takes you to all you need to know to make it into our silly little game. Now back to your Auction prices, brosephs.
You’d still pay $35 for Gronk this year? Also is this based on PPR setting or regular? I also feel like CJ spiller should be upgraded into that Tier above. Also, getting afraid of Ray Rice with all the Bernard Pierce talk. Very good list though, thanks.
My main thing concerning Gronk is you win your championships in December, not September. He was the second best TE last year via rankings. Take advantage of any discount you get.
Yes it’s PPR. I would like to see CJ as the bell cow before I anoint him as one. Pittas injury might expand on Rices reception numbers this year. He’d be a top 3 back if it weren’t for Pierce.
@Sky: I pulled charles for romo and I already owned Kap and have weeden as my back up! Major preseason trade SCORE!
I tip my cap to you, good sir. Well done!
Got the #2 pick in 12 team keeper snake draft
What’s a better set up for first 3 rounds, especially near the turn like that? I have Kaepernick as my keeper in the 8th. If AP doesn’t for some strange reason go 1, then obviously…..If Martin is not a keeper (that team is deciding between him or Demarius Thomas) then him….Foster is a keeper, Lynch is a keeper…….so realistically my 2 pick is between Charles and Rice
Better to go Charles/Rice then back it up with say Julio/Demarious/Roddy type followed by say Murray/DMC in rd 3 or
Hit up straight RB RB and go Charles/Rice CJ2K/MJD type then go Cruz/Nicks/ 2nd tier type in rd 3
If AP or Martin fall then the 2 pick is a slam dunk……..
Keeping a hopefully top 10 (7?) (5???) QB in rd 8 definitely helps the strategy some….
Thoughts?
I try to leave my first 3 rounds with 2 RBs. I ranked Charles over Rice so Charles. I’d take MJD over CJ?K in my rankings so MJD.
I have back to back picks at the end of the first round of my keeper league draft. Only 3 people are picking ahead of me. I am keeping megatron, luck, d wilson and gronk. I want to take either a back and reciever or 2 backs. Marshall and Andre Johnson will most likely be there. Should I take a top reciever and maybe Steven Jackson or Steven Ridley or go with 2 backs? If I do go with 2 backs, should I take 2 safe picks (Jackson or Ridley) or go with a safe pick and high upside guy (Lamar Miller)?
@Matt: @Matt: In a keeper, I’d suggest you go for the two backs. I’d go S-Jax (I like him this year) and Miller for possible keeper value.
In an 10-Team Dynasty Auction ($200 cap) with separate rookie draft, what is Graham worth in a PPR where TE’s get 1.5 points? Is he a must-get?
I don’t know if he’s a ‘must get’ but I tend to zig where others zag. In a 10 team, I’d rather stream a TE or take late shots and bulk up elsewhere.
Great list. Good stuff. 10 team league, $200 budget. Keep 2. Charles for $37, S-Jax for $35 or Russ Wilson for $11? Thanks
Thanks! Charles/Wilson
@Tom: for such a shallow league I’d throw both Those RBs back
keeper league where you can keep 3 players per year.
My first two are Rodgers and A.J. Green. Should my third be S. Jackson, Harvin, or McFadden?
standard scoring, best players available at pick 2 will probably be J. Jones, Spiller, and Richardson if that matters.
@Andrew: It’s risky but I say McFadden and hope TRich falls to you!
S-Jax; Harvin just went down until week 9 or 13
@Andrew:
I’ll take Sjax too. He’s pretty durable and is now on an elite team, with an elite offense, with a pretty much elite QB.
What’s up Sky?
Nothing much. Washed my hair today. You?
@Sky: My balls, so the baby’s mama asked me again when I’m leaving for Oregon, I hope she understands that I’m coming back. I can turn my road trip into an article where I take some Bourdain-esque approach and interview you for the readers, I can call it Razz on the Road
There ya go. Who’s Paula Deen in all of this?
@Sky: you if we can get you drunk enough and into a silver fox wig…..gggrrrrr!
My buddy says I should pick you up some Pliny on the way up, says you would appreciate that
I enjoy me some Pliny, damn tasty stuff; wouldn’t turn you away for bringing it.
Can only keep 1
David Wilson for $5
AJ Green for $32
$200 Cap
Will already have Kaepernick for $6 & Cobb for $5
Wilson and then target AJ in the draft.
12-team keeper league. Would you keep Graham at $32 if it meant he was undroppable until after 2014. I’d be locked in to paying $37 at next year’s auction for him. FWIW, I’m already locked in for McCoy at $50 for 2013 (undroppable).
What’s your other option if you can’t? If you have McCoy that high, I’m inclined to say no. Not overpriced but that’s a lot of cash on two guys.
@Sky: Other options? I could throw him back in the player pool for the auction. Or I could try to trade him pre-draft. I had some interest in a Chris Ivory ($11 keeper) for Graham trade. Would you take that? Ivory could be dropped at any time.
I’d try and get Ivory there, but I’m high on him
Do whole leagues use values like this? I play in a couple 12 team leagues and would not be able to buy a single top 15 RB or WR at these prices. I’ve had middling success with buying lots of decent options and hitting some guys big, but I find blue chip players to be worth it in FFB and guys like Peterson are sure to go for $60 this year.
Auction values are always personal. The reason I only go as high as $48 is that’s my personal cutoff for a 12 team $200 auction per my auction draft strategy post. I don’t think putting $60 into one player – especially at a high injury risk position like RB – is wise.
How does one get a good gauge of value in auction formats? How do you know what to bid and how much to assign to a certain player? How do I know if someone/I overpay?
Thanks,
That’s the beauty of auction, really. I can’t answer that question straight because auction makes you put your money where your mouth is. I really like Chris Ivory this year. Many sites value him at $12-15. I’d pay as much as $25 for his services this year. I’d strongly suggest you look at my auction draft strategy here to get a feel for how I go about my draft. It won’t tell you over/under valuing of players but it’ll give you a sense of how to guard your money without losing out:

Sky – your Tiers last year were enormously helpful in all my drafts. Any plans to do a 2013 version? I search and found the 2012, but sadly no 2013 yet.
I’ll do my best to get that out there. Last year someone helped me get that out but hopefully I can replicate.
