We’re getting to the part of the season where the teams that started hot make way for new teams to start to get hot. The Kansas City Chiefs looked unbeatable until they showed a chink in their armor in Detroit, and the Texans looked pretty pedestrian until recently. The Texans were a popular upset pick for Sunday, but it’s still surprising to see them come back from an early 14 point deficit when it looked like the Chiefs were going to roll right over them.

The Vikings passing game has looked lethargic so far this season with a lot of the blame being placed on Kirk Cousins when really Kevin Stefanski and Mike Zimmer deserve a lot of the heat. Stefon Diggs, who is one of the most talented wide receivers in the league, was left for dead by this Vikings offense. Until Sunday when he went off for 3 touchdowns. Things in this league can shift at any time.

We finally have an early morning game. It’s my favorite part of the season. The whole expanding the brand to Europe thing doesn’t doesn’t affect most of us Razzballers, but getting a coffee and breakfast game gives us 3 more hours of football on Sunday!

The afternoon slate looks awesome. We have the 49ers taking on the Rams and the Jet vs. the Cowboys (which I actually thing will be a really good game). The Falcons and Cardinals could also be a high scoring game. But, the Chiefs and Texans is being played during the early slate and I’m going to have to hook up a TV to watch that game by itself. The Vikings and Eagles should also be a fun game to watch and that outcome is hard to predict. There are a lot of things to look forward to in week 6 so let’s get right into the injuries followed by the rankings.

A windy Thursday night in Foxboro with the 5-0 Patriots taking on the 2-3 Giants without Saquon Barkley, Evan Engram, Sterling Shepard, and Wayne Gallman? This game is cooked and is going to be boring as hell right? Wrong. It was actually pretty entertaining! Well, at least it was before the 4th quarter when the Patriots ran away with it. There were 3 touchdowns that happened on defense and special teams, which isn’t great for fantasy football but it kept the viewers engaged for most of the night.

The under was looking like a great play from a gambling standpoint for a quarter and a half. Then of course, things got weird and the over ended up covering. Vegas took a beating with sharps and the public both leaning into the Patriots’ point spread. Even with 21 of the 49 points coming without offense, there are still a few things to cover from a fantasy standpoint.

Thank you all for the well wishes for my family yesterday. Even though we may never have a beer together, we work things out during the football season for your fantasy teams on a daily basis so we do share some sort of bond. Anyways, life is pretty much back to normal.

We had a lot of big performances last week and some of those I was higher than the consensus. D.J. Chark, Michael Gallup, Will Fuller were a few of those names that I was higher on. Unfortunately, there are always the misses. Austin Ekeler didn’t get in the endzone. I was too high of Jacoby Brissett, too low on Russell Wilson. And of course, I was too high on Baker Mayfield. Rudy and myself finished back to back at 87th and 88th last week. We must begin to look forward and grab a top 10 finish.

If you’re not up for story time, you can skip right down to performance checks. It’s personal and probably not for everybody, but I wanted to tell it anyways.

Speaking of worries, we had a medical emergency with my son on Sunday afternoon and that would explain why I didn’t post on Monday. Before we continue on this crazy journey, everything is fine now. On Sunday afternoon I was watching the games and switching off checking on our son with my wife. He had a lingering stomach ache since after breakfast. He actually threw up and said he was starting to feel better. I checked for a fever, nada. We Gave him some medicine to settle his stomach down. Everything is fine, he just has a stomach bug.

Around the time the late afternoon games kicked off, things got really intense. He yelled “MOM, DAD!” and we ran upstairs. He was sitting on the floor holding his stomach grimacing in pain, his chicken noodle soup untouched. It was time to go to the hospital.

We get to the hospital, I think that he has food poisoning and my wife thinks that his appendix is on the verge of bursting. The doctor? He thinks it’s gas. They do an X-Ray, there are no blockages (not a gas issue). The pain is intensifying for him and my palms are getting sweaty and my wife is getting tears in her eyes. My patience is wearing thin.

It is the first Sunday of October! The weather is starting to get a little cooler around the league and the matchups are starting to heat up. Well, sort of. We have a couple of nice matchups to look forward to, but fantasy football stats count the same whether the games are good or not. The premier matchup doesn’t come until the late afternoon and that’s between the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers.

We have 10 early games today and 2 late afternoon games. I still don’t get it, but you’re probably sick of me complaining about it at this point. We’ll make the most of it. The New Orleans Saints will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and that will be an interesting test for Alvin Kamara as well as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers offense as a whole. The Ravens and the Steelers should be interesting, because the matchups usually are. The Cardinals vs. the Bengals will be a disaster, but the scoreboard could light up in this one. Another game with a lot of potential scoring is the Falcons/Texans matchup. The o/u for that game sits at 50.

I had a feeling about the Rams last night. I thought that after a disappointing performance against Tampa, they’d take it to a divisional opponent. After all, Seattle hasn’t been nearly as dominant at home as they used to be. Seattle has a bad secondary, so I figured Goff would be able to throw all over them. It took a while, but he eventually did. The problem was the Rams defense is probably pretty bad. We’ve seen it over the past 5 days how much of a problem that the secondary is. Aaron Donald can’t do everything.

Many of you know that I like to dabble in gambling (legally now!) and instead of taking the 1.5 that Seattle was giving the Rams, I took the Rams to win outright and grab a few extra bucks in the process. As we now know, that was a horrible mistake and likely one that I won’t make again in the near future. I still can’t believe that Greg Zuerlein missed the game winning kick in the first place. He’s usually money in the bank. But instead I am heartbroken, and the only way to make myself feel better is to analyze statistics for you to keep in mind for your fantasy teams. Let’s go!

The rankings contest results are a little slow this week. The participants have been spoiled this season getting them on Tuesday mornings this season. So I have nothing to report on that front. I felt good about how my projections turned out last week. I didn’t have any huge misses that I’m kicking myself over.

We’re always looking to bring different ways to bring you the best content that we can and I think that we came up with something that will be exciting as we kick off October. Our new writer Pat is a hard worker if you haven’t noticed from his weekly data reports. So I’m going to have him write up flex rankings for your consumption each week. This will be similar to what Donkey Teeth writes over on the baseball side. DT thought this format would translate well to football as well. A beautiful alley-oop by the non-human Razzballer. But for now, here are my rankings for week 5!

Somebody had to win last night, or at the very least, both teams couldn’t lose. Our hope that our weekly evening spent with Booger would end with an entertaining game at the very least did not come to fruition. In fact, I turned this catastrophe off after the 3rd quarter. I love watching football as much as anybody, but I couldn’t stomach another second of this game. As sparse as the fantasy tidbits were on Monday night, let’s run through any and all implications. It will be a miracle if this ends up being 500 words.

Here at Razzball, we can’t get enough of the Chubb puns. Whether it’s Donkey Teeth, Zach, or myself, we’re going to force our d*ck jokes into you. WOAH! WOAH! WOAH! Personal foul and possible ejection on MB. We’re going to have to bring in Mike Pereira for that one. After further review, I will be allowed to review the early games for you. Later today, you can find Donkey Teeth’s round up of the late afternoon games and the Sunday night tilt.

It’s the final Sunday of September and we have some games that should be interesting for both the NFL and fantasy. The kind of undefeated Lions are hosting the actual undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. Sure, the Lions haven’t lost, but when you tie the Cardinals, are you really undefeated? The Minnesota Vikings are traveling to Chicago and the winner will share the NFC North lead with the Packers (if the Lions lose). The undefeated New England Patriots will travel to undefeated Bills Mafia country. The winner takes an early leg up in the AFC East. To close out the day, the undefeated Dallas Cowboys will try and take down Teddy Bridgewater and the Saints in a hostile environment. We may also see Melvin Gordon in a limited role in Miami! Let’s get to the injury report and some updated rankings!

Let’s all collectively go outside and scream at the top of our lungs. There was so much bad play-calling, stupid penalties, bad play-calling, bad fantasy beats, bad play-calling, and brutal injuries that happened last night. I was given hope when Aaron Rodgers drove the Packers down the field in the two-minute drill and hit a wide open Geronimo Allison in the end zone. Then the Packers get the ball first after half time and run the ball on the first two plays with all of the momentum on their side and end up punting. The Eagles score again and when the Packers get the ball back, THEY RUN ON FIRST DOWN AGAIN.

Our writer Pat called it perfectly when he mentioned to some of the other writers that he thought that the Packers were a better team, but he was nervous about a brand new coach coming up with a solid game plan on a 4-day turnaround. In the 4th quarter, the Packers had the ball on first and goal at the 1 yard line and Rodgers threw 4 straight incompletions. That would have actually been a good time to run the ball considering how well Aaron Jones has ran the ball in goal line situations so far this season. For what it’s worth, this was easily the best Thursday night game we’ve had so far this year. Everything from play on the field to atmosphere was what we’ve come to expect when we sit down to watch an NFL football game. Now let’s go over some fantasy impact from week 4 TNF.
