Fantasy Football Season Review: Running Backs

The zero RB truth-ing will never stop. But maybe, just maybe, the 2019 season results will put a halt to the growth of it’s following. When looking at the top 12 finishes for 2019 in PPR leagues: 5 of the players were running backs, 6 were quarterbacks (obviously), and there was only one wide receiver. Of the 5 running backs that finished in the top 12, 3 of them had 2019 ADPs in the top 15. Those players were Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, and somehow Ezekiel Elliott. 

I’m sort of trolling with that first paragraph, zero RB is by no means a bad strategy. An easy counter argument is to point out how well Austin Ekeler, Mark Ingram, and Chris Carson finished. Austin Ekeler was a popular zero RB target and we’ll get to him a little later.

Fantasy Football Season Review: Quarterbacks

Strategy hardly ever changes for quarterbacks. Late round quarterback has been the way to go for quite some time in the fantasy football world. The last two seasons we had eruptions from late round quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. We even had a big late season showing from Jameis Winston who was being drafted outside of the top 10 of quarterbacks. Fantasy football seems so easy!

The difficulty always lies in finding the RIGHT late round quarterback. If you put your sleeper eggs into the Mitchell Trubisky basket, you probably found yourself drowning your sorrows in a bottle Malort. Ahh, Malort. My favorite Malort saying is, “It’s easier telling someone that you have nothing to live for.” 

Rookie quarterbacks are so exciting. There are always a few exciting new names to look closely at. I was extremely impressed watching Joe Burrow a couple of weeks back. We already know that Burrow is 99.99999% going to be a Cincinnati Bengal next year. Unless he decides to pull an Eli Manning and tells his agent that he would refuse to sign in a rust belt industrial purgatory. So assuming Burrow ends up smoking cigars in Cincinnati, the Bengals would be wise to improve their offensive line during free agency. The Bengals ranked 26th in the NFL in adjusted sack rate in 2019.

The Week 17 Fantasy Football And DFS Primer

Fantasy football season is over for most of us. There still are psychotic commissioners out there that see no reason to leave week 17 out. If you’re in an argument with this person, all you need to do is point out the literal highest scoring fantasy asset is sitting out this week since the Baltimore Ravens locked up the #1 seed throughout the playoffs. 

But, I am here to serve. I know that there are some of you that have to navigate the rough week 17 waters to try and chase those final payments. And there are those of us bored degenerates that are going to try to squeeze the last little bit of money on DraftKings and FanDuel. I didn’t do any rankings for week 17, but we can take a look at the inactives for week 17 and some sneaky DFS plays. Even if your fantasy football season is over, it doesn’t have to be totally done just yet.

With Derrick Henry not expected to play, it’s best to avoid the landmines such as starting Dion Lewis and go with a better option like DeAndre Washington. I’m tattered, broken, exhausted, and out of FAAB. I’m playing for $1K this weekend and some hooligan that isn’t even playing for a prize snaked Mike Boone from me and I am the Dalvin Cook owner. Now I will have to settle for the worst holiday entree, which is CJ Ham, as a back up plan.

Fantasy football can be frustrating and anxiety inducing and jealous idiots that just want to watch the world burn will do what they can to step on your toes. But it is a season of gratefulness because we have made it this far. We are in the GREEN baby, we returned our investment and some. There’s only one thing left to do and that is bringing that trophy home and reimbursing our holiday spending. Here are the rankings for Championship Week.

I’m going to keep it short tonight as I must get to focusing on the week 16 rankings. Alfred had engagements this week that’s keeping him from writing this week, but rest assured, he will be back. I made an appearance with B-Don on the Razzball Fantasy Football podcast this week and we talked about all of the pick ups for the week and much, much more. Here is the list of players that I think are worthy of rostering and possibly starting this week. Remember, heading into your championship week, you don’t need players on your bench that will have zero starter consideration in re-draft leagues.

He Can’t Jamiss These Days

It seems like every season there is a player that was heavily dropped during the regular season that comes back during the weeks of the fantasy football playoffs with an absolute vengeance. Last year, it was was Derrick Henry and the tear that he went on in weeks 14-16, including that unforgettable 99-yard touchdown run that seemed to take an entire quarter to complete and then forgive my long-term memory, you’ll have to let me know what guy that was in the previous seasons.

Week 15 NFL Sunday Fantasy Primer

Here we are in the heart of December. It is week 15 of the NFL season which means it is the semi-finals for fantasy football. Outside of the semi-finals, we have a lot of fantasy football players that are playing to avoid last place punishment. We have seen some pretty grueling punishments for last place penalties and one of my keeper leagues has a long-standing punishment system as well. 

This league has been running for 6 years and I have yet to finish last place, so I am pretty happy about that. The punishment for last place is that you have to get your belly button pierced and keep it in throughout the entire draft. This punishment fits into the mold of mildly inconvenient, while not life-altering or too embarrassing. We’re all friends from high school so we talk about it all year long. The bellybutton bowl. I bet if you asked everyone in the league, they would have a better memory of who got their bellybutton pierced than who actually won the league in any given year. Let’s get to the updated injury list and rankings for week 15.

Weekly Fantasy Football Rankings – MB’s Week 15

I had to make a tough decision last weekend. Not like actual real-life tough, but fantasy football tough. As you may know, I was touting Odell Beckham Jr. throughout the preseason and recommending not trading him throughout the season. I know, my bad. Since I often draft who I recommend drafting I had to make the decision in two leagues whether or not I wanted to start him in the playoffs. I chose to bench Beckham for Robert Woods in one league and Zach Pascal in the other. And I won both playoff matchups by a combined 7 points. Choosing to bench Beckham even though he was playing against the Cincinnati was the difference between getting two teams to the semi-finals or being down two playoff teams. 

I’m not typing this to brag or talk about my fantasy teams because I know that nobody cares about fantasy teams that aren’t their own unless, of course, it is their job to. Just don’t be afraid to make the tough decisions for your lineup if it feels like it’s the right thing to do. Even if it means benching somebody that you drafted really early, like Odell Beckham Jr. or Le’Veon Bell. Let’s get to the rankings for week 15.

Bring Some Jimmies, We’re Gonna Score In New Orleans

I got a message in my DMs today saying, “I need to quit doubting Jimmy.” Yeah, I think we all do at this point. The porn star banging super model lookalike is also the quarterback for one of the best teams, if not THE best team in the NFC. After a heartbreaking loss in the ugly Baltimore weather last Sunday, San Francisco bounced back in New Orleans and beat the Saints 48-46.

Week 14 Fantasy Football Sunday Primer

We finally have another full slate on a Sunday. The bye weeks are finished, Thanksgiving is behind us and now it is time for the fantasy football playoffs. But along with the fantasy football playoffs, we get to enjoy three great matchups. The Baltimore Ravens go to Buffalo to take on the Bills while the 49ers stay on the Eastern side of the country and play at the always difficult Superdome in New Orleans. And finally, we get the Kansas City Chiefs visiting Gillette Stadium in Foxboro to take on the Patriots. Even of fantasy football doesn’t go your way Sunday, the games we get to see should be enough to entertain.
