The list isn’t nearly as long as it will be in other weeks, but you will lose the services of Adrian Peterson, Tony Romo, Miles Austin, Jason Witten, Visanthe Shiancoe, and Jamaal Charles this weekend to the dreaded BYE, along with some other guys I don’t like that much.

Hopefully you have some bench players to fill in, but with injuries and the bye, you may need to scrape the bottom of the barrel. Here are some bye week barrel bottoms that you can find wavering on the waiver wire.

for Tony Romo:

Bruce Gradkowski vs. Houston — Houston gives up 368 yards passing per game.  I hear that isn’t good.

Matt Hasselbeck @ St. Louis — The Rams are notoriously bad at defending, well, anything.

Chad Henne vs. New England — The Pats have given up 20+ fantasy point games to Palmer, Sanchez and Fitzpatrick.

Sam Bradford vs. Seattle — The Seachickens are giving up 315 yards passing per game.  Also, not good.

for Adrian Peterson:

John Kuhn vs. Detroit — Detroit has given up a gargantuan amount of fantasy points to running backs, including 148.7 yards per game.

Ryan Torain @ Philadelphia — Jahvid Best scored about a thousand points on Philly and Torain looks like he is already splitting time with Portis.

Kenneth Darby vs. Seattle (if Steven Jackson is out) — Darby’s no SJax, but if he’s the starter, he’s the starter.

Bernard Scott @ Cleveland — Just a speculative play thinking Cincinnati will run more since Palmer is horrible.

for Miles Austin:

James Jones vs. Detroit — Jones has been getting a lot of work and Detroit isn’t that good.

Blair White @ Jacksonville (if Garcon is out) — Manning got him a TD last week and Jacksonville has a horrible pass defense.

Stephen Williams @ San Diego — Steve Breaston is out 2-3 weeks and Williams will take over the #2 slot.

Golden Tate @ St. Louis — His big play ability makes him worth a flier against the Rams.

Darrius Heyward-Bey @ Houston — I like Murphy more, but he’s probably gone and DHB is getting a lot of targets.

For Visanthe Shiancoe:

John [email protected] St. Louis — Carlson has been getting a lot of looks and got a TD last week.

Jeremy Shockey vs. Carolina — Football Outsiders has the Panthers ranked 31st against tight ends.  I dislike Shockey immensely, but he did have a nice game last week.

  1. Nate says:

    Doc, who is a better PPR start in week 4, LT vs Buffalo or Forsett vs St Louis?

  2. timsti says:

    With no certain need rank these three free agent pickups in a .5ppr

    Thanks Doc. This post will be huge when the byes really kick in. Good stuff!

  3. Mike says:

    Whose the best qb and defense to pick up this week?

  4. Doc

    Doc says:

    @Nate: Tough, but I’m liking Forsett after his 17 carries last week.

    @timsti: Torain, Moore, Kuhn

    @Mike: Depends on who is available.

  5. Mike says:

    Bradford, hill, batch, anderson, gradkowski? Seattle, indy, chicago?

  6. Doc

    Doc says:

    I’d lean Bradford, Indy

  7. Howard says:

    Brandon Jackson is starting to hit the scrap heap. Would he be a better pickup than Kuhn?

  8. nyphilsphan says:

    Ha! I got a chuckle out of your Tony Romo “barrel bottoms,” being the proud owner and starter of two. First I had to pick up Gradkowski to replace Kolb in my 2-QB league, then I had to trade MACLIN for Henne to cover this Romo-bye week. Pray for me…

    Very useful write up, thanks. Hope it become a regular feature.

  9. Iceman says:

    Am I crazy to want to drop Celek for Hernandez? Or would dropping Cadillac be the wiser thing to do at this point? I’m decently set at RB.

  10. Joel says:

    Hey Doc. well, my Foster/Boldin for Best/Welker trade doesn’t look so great in the short term with the toe situation, but you did warn me against it. anyway, I have a couple Qs for this week. My RBs now are best, SJax, Bradshaw, barber and Darby. WRs are Austin, Welker, Maclin, Hines Ward and Lance Moore. I’ve been offered McFadden or J Charles for Austin. Obviously, with my RBs looking like the weekly injury report, I could really use an RB. Is McFadden good enough in return for Austin? How about JC Superstar? Thanks!

  11. Wilsonian says:

    Wow, Week 4 is becoming a cluster f for my team. In a 0.5 PPR, I’ve got Austin, DezB, Mike Williams (TB) on Bye, and I’ve got Moreno and Breaston injured and not playing for the week. This leaves me with these guys in my lineup:

    WR: Austin
    WR: Ward
    WR: Jacoby
    RB: Bradshaw
    RB: Beanie
    W/R Flex: McGahee

    Can you rank these guys for me just for Week 4: Moore (waivers until Friday and I have a claim of McGahee in for him), James Jones, DHB, Stephen Williams, Golden Tate, Torain (on waivers until Friday, as well)? Any of these guys over McGahee for the week, besides the ones on waivers?

  12. Pepe Silvia says:

    Better flex for this week: BJax, Kuhn or McGahee?

    I’m assuming Tolbert is a better choice than any of those three — I’ve already got him slotted in as my RB2.

    Also: am I crazy for thinking about starting one of those three guys ahead of Steve Smith (Car)? If Andre Johnson can’t go I’ll have to start Smith at WR2 anyway, but if Andre does play I’m afraid to use Smith at flex — Jimmy Clausen didn’t seem to even realize he was on the field last week.

  13. Wilsonian says:

    @Wilsonian: sorry, I’m a dumbass, my active lineup should have Wayne in there instead of Austin.

  14. Steve Mc says:

    Would you trade McCoy for Rice?

  15. TonyD says:

    Vernon Davis and Santonio for my Andre Johnson? Is this fair or who would get the better end of the deal?

  16. Pepe Silvia says:

    @TonyD: just my two cents, but I think Andre’s worth more than that.

  17. Drew Crew says:

    Would you use Manningham, Gaffney, or Jacoby Jones for Miles this week in a 1 ppr league?

  18. UGH says:

    Would you drop Shonn Greene for P. Hillis? I’m 0-3 and desperate for some change. I think LT will just outscore Greene every week. I know he’s old but I just don’t think Greene will produce this year.

  19. paulzone says:

    owner wants to give wayne for either schaub or vick. Who would you part with? I am leaning towards giving up Vick…Thoughts?

  20. stumanji says:

    Thoughts on BJGE holding on to the starting RB spot in NE? I’ve been burned by the NE RBBC in the past, but Faulk is donezo, Maroney was shipped out, and Taylor is banged up, so I’m thinking of putting in a decent bid for the Law Firm. Although Belijerk will probably start using Woodhead or something…

    @TonyD: Andre side by a lot.

    @UGH: I wouldn’t.

    @paulzone: Vick has higher upside but there’s also the chance that he’s not starting in a few weeks. Schaub is a better bet for the long haul, although with a lower ceiling.

  21. timmy riggins says:

    @Doc: Hi, would you trade McFadden and Boldin for Gore (.5ppr league) or is it too much to give up? thanks

  22. Wilsonian says:

    @timmy riggins: I would have to say that you’re WAAAAAAAY overpaying. Just my $0.02. DMC has been a monster and there’s no way he’s losing the starting job right now. Compare his stats to Gore’s, they aren’t too different. Also, Boldin is a #1 on a team with a better than average QB. I know last week was against a weak CLE secondary, but he should put up pretty monster #s all year. If I had Gore, I would take that offer in a heartbeat before you changed your mind.

  23. Dirt says:

    Which Defense to play this week? (all on waivers)

    Colts- vs jags
    Seahawks- vs Rams
    Bears- vs Giants

  24. timmy riggins says:

    @Wilsonian: thanks for your feedback, he said he’d add in ochocinco, been trying to pull collie from him instead…..does that make a difference in your mind? (getting ochocinco)

    my team is struggling 0-3

    QB – Flacco, big ben (start 1)
    RB – Rice, McFadden, Hillis (flex)
    WR – Marshall, Boldin, Bowe, Crabtree (start 3)
    TE- Vernon Davis

  25. Turd Ferguson says:

    2 Qs: 1) If Best is out this week, I’d have to play one of the following FA RBs: Maurice Morris, Torain, or Kuhn. I know Morris is the worst of the 3, but is he the pickup given that the only way I’m starting any of these guys is if Best is out?

    2) In a dynasty league, is it time to drop Meachem for Louis Murphy, Lloyd or Jacoby Jones?

  26. Wilsonian says:

    @timmy riggins: No problem man, I just wanted to save a fellow Razzball reader from getting ripped off. I also have DMC and Boldin on one team and I have faith in them right now to produce (maybe not Boldin this week against PIT, but for the rest of the season).

    I would like that 2nd deal a little better, but I would still probably stick with what you have, mostly because it looks like Palmer pretty much sucks. If you’re giving up Boldin and DMC I would demand Collie and Gore or no dice. Another possibility is DMC and Crabtree for Gore and finding a WR on the waiver wire. I don’t like Crabtree or Alex Smith, for that matter, and don’t trust either one to perform. I don’t know if I’d want to bust up that 3 headed monster at WR right now, especially when you have pretty solid backs in Rice, DMC, Hillis.

  27. Deeeeeez Nuts says:

    Would you hold onto J-Stew or make the pre-emptive strike on Torain?

  28. Randy says:

    Who would you rather have?
    Percy Harvin or Jacoby Jones

  29. herschel says:

    @Doc: 12 team ppr. Are bess or tate worth starting over crabtree this week?

  30. Rookie Season says:

    I have RBs Addai, Moreno, Tolbert. (Tolbert probably fading after this week, and Moreno still on the shelf.)
    Available: Felix Jones, Fred Jackson, Laurence Maroney, Donald Brown, Bernard Scott, Fred Taylor, Rashad Jennings, Danny Woodhead

  31. paulzone says:

    would you give up cutler and either gonzo/keller for mendenhall or Gore?

    I am considering an upgrade to my rb’s:

    thomas, bradshaw, matthews, moreno

    i’d still have rivers at qb and one of those te’s.

  32. stumanji says:

    @paulzone: good god, yes.

  33. genghis chone says:

    I’d absolutely prefer Harvin. Jones is probably the inferior player to begin with, and he is competing with Kevin Walter and the best receiver in football for targets. Harvin’s injury issues and Brett Favre’s suckiness are causes for concern, but I would still take him over Jones.

  34. genghis chone says:

    Who should I start this week, Eli Manning or Kyle Orton? ESPN is projecting an absurdly low 5.8 points for Orton, but he’s been outscoring Manning pretty consistently so far. Of course, Manning is facing a considerably easier pass D this week.

  35. Alex says:

    Hey Doc,

    I’m gonna assume Jahvid Best can’t play this week, since Stafford has been “week to week” already. Detroit has very sunny injury reports.

    I need to figure out my RB2 and Flex due to bye weeks and injuries.

    Options: Forsett (thinking RB2), Kuhn (thinking flex, might have a big game against Detroit), Maroney, or Bess/Golden Taint off FA.

  36. MJD Took A Knee says:

    SJax – Charles – Hillis – Lynch – Cadillac

    Is it time to drop Cadillac during his bye and coming back to lost carries/goal line? I doubt I will use him anytime soon. I could grab a Kuhn/Torain type for this week if Sjax doesn’t play, but I would also like to grab Sidney Rice off waiver wire soon.

  37. Doc

    Doc says:

    @Howard: I would give BJax a try over Kuhn vs. Detroit.

    @nyphilsphan: I think it will be. Thanks and good luck!

    @Iceman: I like Hernandez a lot. I’d give him a shot.

    @Joel: I think Austin will be more consistent. He’s looking like a top 3 WR, which would be late first/early second round value.

    @Wilsonian: Moore, Torain, Jones, DHB, Tate, Williams

    @Pepe Silvia: If Rice is out, McGahee. If not BJax then Kuhn.

    @Pepe Silvia: I’d give Smith another shot. He should have learned to give Smith more targets. If Mathews is in I’d still play BJax.

    @Steve Mc: I’d take Rice there.

    @Drew Crew: If AJ plays, I’d go with Jones.

    @TonyD: No, keep AJ there.

    @UGH: I still like Greene, but Hillis should be solid enough. Go with your gut.

    @paulzone: I’d give Vick.

    @stumanji: Woodhead and Morris and Taylor equals who knows. I’d be conservative.

    @timmy riggins: I think it’s fairly close, but it really depends on who you would be replacing Boldin with.

    @Dirt: Colts

    @timmy riggins: I think with Ocho it favors you. Gore doesn’t have Bush there taking away goal line looks. Boldin is great, but plays like a linebacker and gets hurt. And they play teams like the Steelers as often as the Browns.

    @Turd Ferguson: Yeah, go with Morris. I like Jones’ long term situation better.

    @Deeeeeez Nuts: I’d hold Stew.

    @Randy: Harvin

    @herschel: Bess in ppr.

    @Rookie Season: I’d give Jones a try for Tolbert.

    @paulzone: Since you have Rivers I’d do that. And give Keller. Gonzo should be consistent.

  38. Doc

    Doc says:

    @genghis chone: I’d stick with Orton

    @Alex: I’d go with your first thought there.

    @MJD Took A Knee: I’ve always been down on Caddy, an I could see grabbing Torain.

  39. paulzone says:

    @Doc: gore or mendenhall to go after in a trade? i have ward if that matters to you…gore has the easiest schedule but will have fewer leads to run out than mendenhall…

  40. Mr2Bits says:

    Hey Doc as always, your help is appreciated.

    Pick One : Cutler @NYG , Vick v. Wash or Ryan v. SanFran
    Pick One : Green-Ellis @Mia or Forte @NYG
    Pick Two : Colston v Car, (This might be dumb to question but) A. Johnson and his bum ankle @Oakland or M. Clayton v. Seattle
    Pick One : T Gonzo v SanFran or Keller @Buf

    Thanks Man

  41. G.O.B. says:

    Who is a better option long term: Garcon or Demaryius Thomas? (Non-PPR)

  42. Mike says:

    Brandon jackson, j stew, T.O, or kevin walter for a flex?

  43. timmy riggins says:

    @Doc: thanks, i have a question for a different league

    2 qb league – 6pts for td passing/rushing/receiving….40 passing yds = 1 pt, 15 yds for rushing/receiving = 1pt

    Im offered Wayne and Vick for MY schaub and Bowe….would you “sell-low” on schaub and “buy-high” on vick….in the same trade??????

  44. dingo says:

    whos the better pickup: torian or blount?

  45. UGH says:

    Going forward who would you rather have?

    Knox or Bowe?

  46. Art Vandelay says:

    Would you drop Fred Jackson for Torain or Darby?

  47. BAM says:

    Hey Doc,

    I’m assuming you listed your “bye week fill-in” QB’s in the order you’d play them in? I have Romo but I’m having a tough time getting up the nerve to grab Gradkowski off the wire. I picked up Orton who was still available but, of course, he has a tough matchup with the Titans this week. Would you play Orton over those you listed above?

    Also, I’m thinking it’s time to let Celek go bro…I’ve tried to stick it out but damn, it seems like it’s all bad. I picked up Hernandez a few weeks ago and H.Miller and Moeaki are on the wire. Drop Celek for either of those two?

  48. MJD Took A Knee says:

    Picked up Torain but just read the P.Thomas news. Keep Torian for now but grab Ivory if it’s possible he starts? I could keep Torain as a sleeper if not.

  49. Doc

    Doc says:

    @paulzone: I’d go with Gore. He’s getting plenty of opportunities in the passing game.

    @Mr2Bits: Vick, Forte, tough, AJ/Colston,

    @G.O.B.: This year, Garcon

    @Mike: BJax, but it’s scary!

    @dingo: I like them about equally, but leaning Torain

    @UGH: Knox

  50. Doc

    Doc says:

    @MJD Took A Knee: It’s a shorter term play. Depends on if you need someone for this week.

    @BAM: I would play Orton. He is looking sharp. Moeaki would be who I grab, but as long as you have Hernandez I think you can hold Celek for now.

  51. timmy riggins says:

    @Doc: 2 qb league – 6pts for td passing/rushing/receiving….40 passing yds = 1 pt, 15 yds for rushing/receiving = 1pt

    Im offered Wayne and Vick for MY schaub and Bowe….would you “sell-low” on schaub and “buy-high” on vick….in the same trade??????

  52. timmy riggins says:

    @Doc: hi, it appears that you missed my trade question….can you please answer it when you have a moment.

  53. Doc

    Doc says:

    @timmy riggins: I like Wayne a lot there, so I would go for it.

  54. Wilsonian says:

    ***Trey Wingo reporting that Ray Rice did not practice today***

    Keep McGahee on your radars.

  55. friar says:

    Doc, what are your thoughts on trading Vick and DeAngelo for Turner and Wells? Does your opinion change at all if Addai is substituted for DeAngelo? Thanks.

  56. Wilsonian says:

    Do you like the Law Firm over Torain, McGahee, Breaston, Moore in a 0.5 PPR league?

  57. TRADE says:

    Which side do you like better?

    Forte/Beanie/Knox vs MJD/Santonio Holmes

    Non PPR

  58. TonyD says:

    @ Doc

    Santonio for Dez Bryant?? Is this fair?

  59. Doc

    Doc says:

    @friar: I would do the Addai trade, not the Deangelo.

    @Wilsonian: I just don’t trust Belichick. So no. I like Torain and Moore, uh more.

    @TRADE: Tough, but going with MJD

    @TonyD: I like Dez. Pretty fair.

  60. friar says:

    @Doc: Thanks Doc. Should I still do the trade if I also have to include Miles Austin and get Calvin Johnson in exchange? The final deal (10-team 0.5 PPR) would mean giving up Vick, Addai, and Austin to receive Turner, Wells, and Calvin.

  61. Doc

    Doc says:

    @friar: I wouldn’t I like Austin too much.

  62. Mr2Bits says:

    What about :Pick One : T Gonzo v SanFran or Keller @Buf

  63. Doc

    Doc says:

    @Mr2Bits: I like both matchups. Leaning Keller.
