Dynasty Value Check

Bryce Young (QB – CAR)

The 2023 first-overall pick Bryce Young has struggled mightily so far this season. The rookie signal caller is facing an uphill battle as he tries to find comfort in the pocket behind the team’s beleaguered offensive line, currently ranked 32nd per PFF.com. Unfortunately, his efforts are also hindered by the chaotic state of the team. With an interim head coach, a volatile owner in David Tepper and no apparent signs of a turnaround for Carolina on the horizon.

Among the 10 qualifying rookie quarterbacks, Young finds himself near the bottom in passing grade (47.2) and total offensive grade (49.2) and ranks 6th in completion percentage at 61.7%. In addition, he is leading leading the rookie class in interceptions (8) and total quarterback pressures (164). It’s challenging for Young, especially compared to second-overall pick CJ Stroud, who has flourished in Houston.

Is there any chance Bryce Young can turn this around, or is it time to panic?

D.K. Metcalf (WR – SEA)

Seattle WR D.K. Metcalf’s 2023 season has disappointed, as many feared it would be. Unfortunately, the regression of QB Geno Smith to a more pedestrian level has limited Metcalf’s production. He is on pace for career lows in catches (66), touchdowns (4.63), catch rate (57.3%), and the third-lowest receiving yards (1,047).

The uncertainty surrounding Seattle’s direction in the offseason adds another layer of concern for Metcalf and his future with the team. Despite being an athletic freak, the wear and tear on physical players like him is noticeable. At 26, he faces the challenge of adapting to an offense that could shift towards a more run-heavy approach with RBs Ken Walker and Zach Charbonett. In addition, with rising stars like Jaxson Smith-Njigba in his second year and the likely return of Tyler Lockett, Metcalf’s role in the evolving Seahawks’ offense remains uncertain.

Is D.K. Metcalf a sell candidate right now, or should you hold out hope for a new QB and a resurgence for him in 2024?
