Face Off John Travolta Nicholas Cage

Welcome to the third installment of what may be the strangest Fantasy Football poll to ever grace the internet.  I mean, Nic Cage and John Travolta?  It’s like all we do in our spare time is watch bad movies and subject you to the fallout from it.  This week we decided to review two quarterbacks known well for running the ball with abandon and making their fantasy football managers extremely happy while doing so.  Andrew Nordmeier expounded on the greatness that is Cam Newton.  You can read his rollicking catharsis here.  On the other side of the Spanish Doubloon is Mark Lee and you can read his Michael Vick sympathies here.  It was originally going to be in iambic pentameter but he couldn’t find a word that rhymed with ‘supersexystudmuffin’.  Let us all be thankful.  With that said, it’s time to vote.  The winner this week gets a handshake from Brodie in ‘Mallrats’.  Google that at your own peril.  Alright, good luck submitting your chads…wait, I think I should remind you of our reprise of The Next Great Fantasy Football Writer Contest that I posted about this morning.  That magical link will take you to it.  Or, if you have the fortitude, you can scroll down a few website inches.  I know, it’s like a choose your own internet adventure!

    @Sky, Andrew Nordmeier & Mark Lee
    Here are my thoughts on both players heading into the new year.

    What have the Panthers gone out and added to the WR spot? Steve Smith is another year older(33). In the 2nd half last year had only one game over 100 yards and five games under 82 yards. As you make your way down the depth chart you see names like LaFell, Gettis(coming off injury) and Adams(rookie). Not exactly the names I want Cam having to throw the football too.

    I think we can all agree on a drop in rushing TDs is in order. Now the big question is to what extent will it drop? With the trio of Stewart, Williams and the newly added Tolbert. I don’t think he gets back to double digits. I’m expecting his total to park in the neighborhood of 7 rushing TDs.

    The rushing TD’s for Vick saw a huge drop from 2011. We also saw a big increase for LeSean McCoy from the year before. Just like Newton, I expect to see a decrease for McCoy in his rushing TD column. I think this will open up the door for Vick to get at least 5 rushing TDs.

    Both writers seemed to forget about the re-emergence of Brent Celek last year. Vick made a much stronger effort to get Celek the ball. His target rate jump from 12% weeks 1-5 to 22% weeks 6-17. It would not shock me if Jeremy Maclin(Healty)>Steve Smith in terms of fantasy production. Plus you add D-Jax(paid) still stretching the field vertically. Unlike Cam Newton, I see lots of upside for Michael Vick when airing the rock out.

    If I had to choose between these two players, I am selecting Michael Vick.
    According to FFC ADP:
    Cam Newton Round 2.09(4th) Michael Vick round 4.06(6th)
    To me as a fantasy owner it comes down to finding the best value on draft day. It is easy to see that Michael Vick has the ability to turn a bigger profit and heck even produce better numbers in 2012!

      I don’t want to sway the voters thoughts or else I would opinionate with you!

        @Sky,
        Dang! Well hopefully next week after the results are released. We can revisit this post. I would like to see how much of the above you agree with and what we differ on.

        On another note this face/off led me to pondering about a future face/off with the two Eagles WRs.
        Right now over at FFC the ADP chart shows
        D-Jax: Round 5.06(21st); Maclin: Round 5.06(22nd)
        I think one of these WRs is being very overvalued at the moment.

          Way ahead of you; that’s next week’s face/off :)

          We can and will reconvene on the Vick/Newton argument, for sure.

            @Sky,
            Sounds good, will be looking forward to both next week!

            @Sky,
            Now that the results are posted in another article. Who is Sky picking Newton or Vick? Hopefully we can get some analysis with your selection.

              It really truly comes down to what you’re paying for. Cam might go in the 1st round in some drafts. If I have the possibility of getting similar production but at a much cheaper price, I’m going with the cheaper of the two in Vick. Considering a standard 10 team, 1 QB league is going to have plenty of QB talent to fall back on in case of a Vick injury, I can’t justify paying more for a similar statline. Call me cheap, but I’m all over Vick in this scenario

                @Sky,
                I 100% agree with you, as I am sure you could tell with my first post.

    I posted this in the forums, but then notice that nobody had posted there since December so I thought I’d post here as well.

    I need a little help deciding who to keep in my keeper league. The setup is as follows:

    14 team league, 6pts for passing TDs, .5 point per reception.
    1QB – 2RB – 3WR – 1TE – 1RB/WR – 1RB/WR/TE/QB – K – D
    Keep 5 players, they move up 1 round from where they were drafted last season (if they can’t move up then one of your other keepers moves up to make up the round).

    Obviously since you can start 2 QB, I want to have some decent QB’s. Unfortunately I missed the draft last season, so I don’t have any great options on my team, but, I’d really like to draft one of Luck/BG3 so that I have a stud QB for years to come. Which means I’d probably have to do it in the 1st/2nd round, depending on how many teams have picks that aren’t being used for keepers in those rounds. Pretty much all good QBs will be kept.

    Anyway, any thoughts on which 5 I should be keeping from this group? I’m tempted to go Charles/Jackson/Green/Dalton/Bush so that I can at least have a 2nd round pick to try to get a young QB.

    Player (Round)
    Charles (1)
    Fitzgerald (1)
    F.Jackson (4)
    A.J.Green (5)
    Kolb (7)
    Dalton (10)
    R.Bush (12)
    Tate (17)
