sweet jebus i just read FP’s “start and sit” short email article, and Rudy has bortles as his NUMBER ONE QB for the week. i was already deciding on whether to start winston or mccown or winston or bortles in 2 leagues, i’ll let Rudy’s machine carry me on the one decision now for sure. you guys round here are QUITE a bit lower on winston this week (limiting FP’s QB rankers ONLY to the top 25 it goes winston at 16, bortles at 17, mccown at 20th). what about this one though, a half PPR with this (team was named KC/IND better not suck, and i was right, as i was a top 2 team till about the last 3-4 weeks, now fighting for playoffs at all)
    QB winston/bortles (start 1)
    RB (2) hunt/melgor/gore/m.davis/booker
WR (2) hill/cooks/shepard (good lord eli being benched might be ONLY reason i could miss playoffs at this point)/hilton
    TE (1) rudolph/olsen
    1 flex
    1. should i just drop olsen for say garoplolololo just for the upside here? i dropped mccown for bortles just now, as mccown’s ROS after this week is just bad. it sure looks like olsen is messed up enough that he’ll either be ruled out ROS in next 2 weeks or barely plays till like week 15 or something, and even at that point we’ll have no idea of safely playing him at any point. kroft is out there in case of rudolph injury or matchup plays.

    • Fundle Bundle Life says:
      (link)

@Fundle Bundle Life: rudy and jaywrong this season are 24th and 27th for QB’s as well.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Fundle Bundle Life: Yeah, honestly, Rudy’s machine is much more “adventurous” than last season, and we’re already seeing the dividends. Generally, and I won’t speak for Rudy, but my take and from what we discussed last season, the balance he had a tough time reconciling some projection hiccups here and there, but his results this year speak for themselves. He’s ahead of me and has gotten some amazing top finishes. I’d generally trust his machine’s hunches more than not.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Fundle Bundle Life: As for your specific question, I actually like carrying two TEs into the playoffs if they’re the right guys. I do like Olsen, but I feel like he’s in a limbo state, so I don’t mind grabbing something else to help stream.

      • Fundle Bundle Life says:
        (link)

@Jay: WOW, in a week where the top QB’s all had huge gaps in points, at least in one of my leagues it went
mccown (2nd, jaywrong i think was higher on him than nearly anybody i’ve seen)
bortles (3rd, rudy had him as NUMBER #1 in a week when he was 17th or whatever by consensus). mccown and bortles an exception, very similar point totals.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Fundle Bundle Life: Yeah, I think we cancelled each other out maybe, I was pretty high on Tyrod and that was terrible of me. Thanks for the words though!

  2. Mike in Busan says:
    (link)

ok, so with Antonio Brown Q and playing on Monday if he plays, I have 2 options.
Start Brown or start (gulp) Sammy Watkins.
Win and I’m the #1 seed with a bye (and win some jellybeans)
Lose and I’m still in, either the 3 or 4 seed.
I should beat the team i am up against, but a zero could derail that.
I still go with Brown unless I see him ruled out before the Rams game starts, right?
(or if i develop a bigly lead by then)
    oh, it’s 12-team ppr

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Mike in Busan: I’d say starting Watkins this year is like starting sitting Antonio Brown, so I’m okay with the risk. I’d wait and see if your team does get that bigly lead and then reassess.

      • Mike in Busan says:
        (link)

@Jay: Right? How much more than nothing is Watkins gonna give me? Especially with Peterson likely on him. Sadly I drafted a fair bit of Watkins and Martavis this year.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Mike in Busan: I did as well, in terms of Watkins. We’ll call it a learning experience, haha.

      • Mike in Busan says:
        (link)

        @Jay:
Seth Roberts worth grabbing to fill that spot? He’s almost sure to be heavily targeted this week.
        Think he outscores Watkins PPR?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Mike in Busan: Yeah, I think he has the slight edge in PPR.

          • Mike in Busan says:
            (link)

@Jay: No bigly lead. Gonna have to roll the dice on Brown’s toe. But, hey! Raise your hand if you successfully talked yourself out of benching Kareem Hunt for Alf. Just wanna punch myself.

    • MB

      Unbreakable_MB says:
      (link)

@Mike in Busan: did we all draft watkins and Martavis? What is wrong with us?

      • Mike in Busan says:
        (link)

@Unbreakable_MB: fortunately, I didn’t draft them in the same leagues…

  3. Normandy says:
    (link)

Must win week like many of you.
Half PPR, I have Tate and Baldwin who have made me nervous lately. Are either/both worth benching for the likes of Martavis, Corey Coleman, or Zay Jones???

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Normandy: I’d say Bryant and Jones are in the orbit, but I still have Tate and Baldwin there. But they make me nervous too.

    • MB

      Unbreakable_MB says:
      (link)

@Normandy: stick to your guns with Tate and Baldwin here

    • MB

      Unbreakable_MB says:
      (link)

@Normandy: actually never mind I’d play Coleman over tate

      • Normandy says:
        (link)

@Unbreakable_MB: Coleman is also playing a top-5 defense against receivers.

        • Normandy says:
          (link)

          @Normandy: f*ck you MB!

          • Crapshoot Kershaw says:
            (link)

@Normandy: jebus, would MB have been your “hero” had he been right on that one? of course not, people get this stuff right and wrong all the time, it’s easy to be wrong or right. in this instance coleman over tate was a lean-out-there-when-compared-to-consensus call. if you have issues trusting one guy (from above that’s been answered already) go find a consensus ranking. here this week’s FP (indexed only by top 30 guys, removing the ones who haven’t been good this year) finds tate at 49th vs coleman’s 93rd (this is half PPR flex rankings, so no QB’s in it)
            https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/rankings/half-point-ppr-flex.php

also another benefit of using something like that is you’d probably find it too much work to yell “F U” at 30 or more people if they got something wrong.

  4. Ron P says:
    (link)

This decision is for a first round bye….

    Baldwin vs Eagles
    Or
    Cook vs Giants

    Thanks!!!

    • Ron P says:
      (link)

      @Ron P: Scoring is .5 PPR

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Ron P: Close, but I think Baldwin here. I feel a little more comfortable taking the WR over the TE here.

    • MB

      Unbreakable_MB says:
      (link)

      @Ron P: yeah, Baldwin

  5. Chud says:

Better RB pickup for ROS? Aaron Jones or Mike Davis?

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:

      @Chud: Jones, but it’s close.

      • Chud says:
        (link)

@Jay: thanks. would u take Booker over both of them?

        • Jay

          Jay says:

          @Chud: I would, yeah.

      @Chud: Jones

  6. Bobby's world says:
    (link)

Howdy good morning Jay, just sipping on my coffee getting my fantasy team squared away!

.5 PPR league, now regardless if I win or lose this week I’m locked in at the 2 seed & that will give me a week 1 bye. Does that change how you plan a matchup or do you just set it & maybe have fun with it. I’m considering playing either Bortles, mariota, Brent hundley, or Jimmy G.

That being said my QB who I benched this week is Dak I was encouraged with the 2 TDs but he failed to reach 200 passing yards.

Week 15 after the bye Dak gets the raiders juicy!

    Week 15 there are these:

    Week 15 Bortles vs Texans

    Week 15 mariota @ SF

Week 15 josh mccown is also available @ New Orleans

With the news on a-Rod I don’t know if I’d trust hundley in fantasy playoffs, I don’t know if I trust Jimmy G in fantasy playoffs

    ——

Also looking ahead ; for playoff depth would you drop lafell to add either Dede Westbrook, Paul Richardson, Tyrell Williams (I own Keenan), Inman, josh Reynolds. Or add another TE instead in either Ricky seals, hooper or CJ fiedorwicz. Or lastly drop for a RB? Jaquizz, mckissic, Lacy, mike Davis, brieda are a few available.

    Here’s my roster

    QB: mariota, Dak on bench

RBs: Melvin Gordon, hunt, mcaffery, AP, McKinnon, ekeler, Booker

My WRs (we start 3 can be 4 with flex) Keenan Allen, Baldwin, tyreek hill, d Parker, hogan, lafell, josh Gordon

My TE I stream here I added kroft for this week

    D/ST I have chargers D

    Kicker I stream here

Is clay a good TE add for the fantasy playoffs? Best options are kroft, clay, hooper, CJ fiedorwicz, Ben Watson. Week 15 clay gets the Dolphins

Is parker droppable or wait after today’s game? I know he gets cutler back but Parker hasn’t been too hot thus far

    Thanks man!

    • Bobby's world says:
      (link)

      @Bobby’s world:

Just noticed both Aaron jones & chris Carson are available

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@Bobby’s world: Carson over Booker isn’t crazy, just to have a lottery ticket going into the end of the season but I’m probably keeping the more functional of the players for depth. I personally think he’s a Week 17 guy if he shows up at all.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Bobby’s world: Bobby, what up!

Sounds like a stress free start for the playoffs and yeah, I think if you’re locked in, just have fun. I’d go with Bortles for the mere fact that Rudy has him at his number one QB. And sure, I’d maybe go for Inman as Allen protection (he gets injured in the darndest ways) and I might hold on your RBs there. I like your depth. And sure, Clay works there for next week.

Wait for today’s game. Nothing to lose there.

  7. PaulZone says:
    (link)

Fighting for a playoff spot. PPR league.

Need a RB and a FLEX out of this group:

Demarco Murray, Darkwa, Woodhead, Ginn, Sheperd, Jacquizz Rodgers

    Thanks for all the input!!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@PaulZone: Glad to see you’re still in it Paul! I’m leaning Murray and Ginn here in PPR. Darkwa was close.

      • PaulZone says:
        (link)

@Jay: It’s been a grind. That’s who I have now. Would you consider Seals-Jones over Ginn at Flex?

Also have McCown in over Taylor & Winston. Agree?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@PaulZone: I wouldn’t, no. And I actually have both over McCown (Taylor as my QB9). I would note that I probably have McCown ranked a lot lower than my peers.

          • PaulZone says:
            (link)

@Jay: so you’d pkay Taylor over McCown?

            • Jay

              Jay says:
              (link)

@PaulZone: If it’s my team, yeah, I would. Not to say I don’t like McCown. He’s a solid QB2, which has value in most leagues.

              • PaulZone says:
                (link)

                @Jay: Thanks Jay!

        • MB

          Unbreakable_MB says:
          (link)

@PaulZone: I’d play McCown, it’s a good matchup. Pats are better on defense now

  8. Jason says:
    (link)

Hi Jay, in a 10 team standard, who would you start?
    Jordy Nelson
    TY Hilton
    Corey Coleman
    Seth Roberts

    Thank you

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Jason: I have Seth there. But it’s close with Hilton.

    • MB

      Unbreakable_MB says:
      (link)

      @Jason: seth

  9. Cubjet says:
    (link)

If Richard Matthews plays would you start him or Jamaal Williams?

Seth Roberts is also available on waiver wire.

    Thanks in advance

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Cubjet: Yeah, if he did, I’d have him over Jamaal slightly. Seth too. Williams is the guy there if he doesn’t though.

    • Cubjet says:
      (link)

      @Cubjet: ppr league

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@Cubjet: Yeah, still going with Seth for PPR.

    • MB

      Unbreakable_MB says:

@Cubjet: I’d grab Seth Roberts and play him

  10. Wide Right says:

    Engram or Kroft at TE?
    Thanks

@Wide Right: I have Shepard and Engram there.

      @Wide Right: Shephard and Engram

  11. Nightpandas says:
    (link)

.5ppr 12 team, win and I’m in but I’m the underdog. Can still get in with a loss as I will likely have more points than teams tied with me.

Who would you play at flex:

Ekeler, Henry or Jaquizz…they are close in your rankings

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Nightpandas: Yeah, really close. Probably sticking with Ekeler because: Browns. I do like Rodgers today though.

    • MB

      Unbreakable_MB says:
      (link)

@Nightpandas: I think I’d play Jacquizz, he’s not safe, but he’s the safest

  12. Ciwa says:
    (link)

    10 team standard league
For 2 WRs and 1 Flex, who would you choose?

    A.BROWN
    FUNCHESS
    M.THOMAS
    T.HILL
    MARTAVIS BRYANT

I’d go with the first three but with the questionability of AB I don’t who if it’s better to go with tyreek or wait until tomorrow and put Bryant in case AB will sit.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Ciwa: I agree, on those three and I think it’s better to wait and go with Bryant here.

    • MB

      Unbreakable_MB says:
      (link)

@Ciwa: wouldn’t play funchess today. I’d go Brown Thomas and Hill

  13. Guidedbyvoices says:
    (link)

Getting worried about McCaffrey….std league. Need to start two.

    Burkhead
    McCaffrey
    D Murray

    Thnks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Guidedbyvoices: Murray and Burkhead are clumped very closely, I’m okay with those two over McCaff if you’re feeling the jitters there.

    • MB

      Unbreakable_MB says:
      (link)

@Guidedbyvoices: I’d personally go Burkhead and McCaffery

  14. Pink Doves says:
    (link)

Haven’t had to ask any special requests for a few weeks but have a 1st round bye on the line today.

I need upside as I’m an underdog this week.

    Pick 2 .5ppr

Hill vs Jets, C. Davis (no Matthews) vs Houston or Lee vs Indy.

    Ryan or Keenum at QB?

    Thanks mate!!

      Jay says:
      (link)

And wow, leave it to pick three guys all next to each other in my rankings. I’d lean Amendola for the PPR aspect.

      • Duttz says:
        (link)

        Lineup set, Amendola in!

    Theo Riddick
    Jacquizz Rodgers

@E: I have it as Freeman, Murray and Rodgers. Riddick is close because of the PPR though…

      • E says:

        • Jay

Sounds like Antonio Brown might not go…

I need as many points this week as I can to win $200 from my league for “most regular season points” (tight race among 3 teams at the top, I’m in second by 6 points) and need the win for a first round bye…

had Big Ben and AB fired up for tomorrow…. opponent has Martavis Bryant and JuJu. That said. would you sit both Big Ben and AB in favor of players below??

    Tyrod Taylor or Case Keenum

Sammy Watkins or Marqise lee (over a questionable AB)

    thanks

  21. Not your average Joe says:
    (link)

You have Crowell and Darkwa ranked consecutively. To whom do I turn for my 2nd RB slot in a standard league? I already started Crowder this week so I suppose my biggest interest is to avoid the dud. Do we go Darkwa against poor Raiders rushing defense, notwithstanding Geno, or Crowell in the hopes that LAC doesn’t run up the score early on the Browns and force them to throw?

    • Not your average Joe says:
      (link)

@Not your average Joe: I was going to drop Woods to stash Gordon as a lottery ticket, but I suppose I could drop Woods, add Blount, and start him instead but I don’t particularly want to carry any Eagles RB at the moment.

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

        Yeah, nor do I.

  22. H says:

Start Jordy or Demaryius over Brown? Or does Brown play this week? Ugh…

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@H: Jordy, and it’s looking less likely on Brown. Tough decision, but I think in most cases, people have to play it safe with Playoffs or near-Playoffs mode turned on.

@Jay: thank god the only 2 leagues i have AB i’m already in playoffs. is good for the one spot where i pretty much have to start mart bryant already i guess. best hope this toe thing doesn’t keep him out of week 14, or (gasp) he plays tomorrow and REALLY injures it.

now ogletree is hurt too. even with crap town QB’s the rest of this team is kicking so much ass that i’ve actually gone from 4th in points with lucky best record to 1st in points since AAron Rodgers went out. but with rodfather hurt moves will have to be made. 2 QB dynasty half PPR.
QB (2) rodfather/brissett/fitzmagic (i held him in case winston got reinjured for this week, literally could’ve lost this week, already had 1st place locked up anyway)/mahomes/AAron rodgers
    RB (2) kamara/ingram/burkhead/perine/darkwa
    WR (3) k.allen/m.lee/thielen/d-jax/jordy
    TE (1) ertz/VD
    2 flexes
    K butker
    DEF DEN
IDP flexes (4) ogletree (elbow this week, still posted great score though)/t.smith/r.jones
    IR p.lynch/edleman

    1. so probably gotta drop at least 2 people to grab at least one IDP and a QB (people have given up adding QB’s as of late, some dropped back into FA as well). guessing that’s vernon davis and fitz? could even drop lynch too, sliding rodfather into IR slot.

these QB’s out there (admittedly it’s mostly about week 14, as i have rodgers back after that)
peterman: vs IND, vs MIA, @ NE
savage: vs SF, @ JAX, vs PIT
geno/webb: vs DAL, vs PHI, @ ARI
semian (38 yards to top 2 WR on 17 targets today, yuckkkkk): vs NYJ, @ IND, @ WAS

    2. i guess grab savage dropping fitz at least here. green julius and RSJ out there as far as TE’s if i drop VD and ertz gets hurt or something. daily FAAB waivers, with NO money at all. guessing it’s likely with savage putting out that many points he could be added tonight, so….
    3. what’s best order of those QB’s, my guess is savage, peterman, geno, semian, webb?

      • Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo says:
        (link)

@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: ahhhhh, crap, ertz out (didn’t look like a bad hit though, albeit head). s.anderson also out there, could drop VD for RSJ/anderson/JT and likely stream this position weekly. do have a bye in this league, but ertz (if out) is really bad for me elsewhere)

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: Man, I really want to go Semian there just because I think it’s an easier last two games, I think maybe Savage there. Geno is just so… I dunno. Geno.

      2. Oh, yeah, we agree. That order for 3 is legit!

  24. Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo says:
    (link)

different league than above, no byes there. gotta assume ertz is out since waivers are in 2 days. better week 14’er:
burton @ LAR (5th vs TE’s through week 12 at FO)
s.anderson vs SF (1st vs TE’s but addendum coming)

while it appears there is now NOBODY at HOU to compete with s.anderson for TE grabs SF’s #1 TE ranking could very easily have to do with this, they are 27th vs WR #1’s, 25th vs WR #2’s, 27th vs other WR’s, 30th vs RB for receiving yards (through week 12 at FO), so teams can just throw at EVERYBODY else and win easily vs SF it would appear. the only other TE options here being a DEN one, a GB one, or celek SF.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: That’s a secondary that just covers TEs then I guess. Haha. I have Anderson there. I know rankings haven’t come out, but I’d probably have Anderson at 20ish and Burton at maybe 25ish right now.

12 team standard (sort of) dynasty where rushing yards are worth 50% more than receiving yards.
    QB wentz
RB (start 1) howard, mckinnon, drake, AAron jones (not a good thing for him that we’ve gone back to preseason thinking (possibly) in thinking j.will’s got it now), darkwa, mack (seems a hold for dynasty)
WR (2) hopkins, thielen, m.thomas, hilton, jeffery
TE (1) cook (something happened to this dude during his week 10 bye, but of course we’ve seen this kinda crap from him for half dozen or so years by now)
1 WR/RB flex (due to scoring this should pretty much always be a RB)
    1 WR/TE flex
    IR ware, meredith, dixon
no waivers (other than dropped players) so i can add people for dropping those i didn’t start this week right now.

    1. hold my RB’s over any of: m.davis, morris. clearly morris has no value shortly but darkwa might not have much either (possibly more for dynasty though)

    2. best week 14 TE ( could drop a RB darkwa or aaron jones for a TE right now or cook later):
    cook @ KC
    njoku vs GB
    anderson vs SF

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Mantis Toboggan MD: Yeah, it’s always been something I’m been off of this year it feels, Jones or Williams. I might just keep Darkwa as an average guy to hold over, there’s some value to that in dynasty. And I like Cook this week out of those three, by a good margin. I might do Jones for him.

uh oh shazier is in the gruden grinder. if you don’t know what that is, it’s the physical equivalent to being forced to gruden talk while not being allowed to move out of earshot.

@Crapshoot Kershaw: forced to listen to gruden talk while not being allowed out of earshot, nor earplugs, nor ability in hands to cover ears.

saw the clip of gronk dirty shoting white after the pick. to see the media bias here one of the announcers on CBS actually says it’s “good” that he did it since white held him on the play. this is some sad shit here. str up dirty elbow hit head shots a guy AFTER the play FROM BEHIND. if guys get a one game ban for a fight they were both engaged in dirty head shots from behind after a play is over should be more than that.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Mantis Toboggan MD: Oh yeah, there’s a lot of this the entire game. We can’t even get a consistent policy for what a catch is, they’ll never apply anything better in terms of a discipline code.

      • Mantis Toboggan MD says:
        (link)

@Jay: yeah i’m not surprised about the league here on the discipline, what WAS digusting and somewhat surprising was the CBS announcer literally saying “good (that gronk late hit white) since white held him on the play”. holding is a penalty and probably should’ve been called (meaning the pick didn’t happen). hitting a dude in the back of the head with yr elbow from behind while he’s on the ground after the play is over is dirty dirty shit. this would be the one time i’d have loved for GODdell to go into his patented petty me-over-the-world mode (i.e. ballgate) and suspend him for a playoff game. THAT’D curb this kinda shit.

  28. The Harrow says:

nobody in the league deserves that more than burfict, THAT’s why jjss stood over him after hurting him. gruden and the other twat sit there and shit talk jjss and pretend ignorance on just how dirty burfict’s entire career has been.

    • Jay

@The Harrow: Yeah. Everyone knows he’s dirty, a lot of players waiting for an opportunity like that for sure.

  29. The Harrow says:

hahaha, almost was the example, i got 2nd most points but missed playoffs from aj green not being able to get 23 yards (or a TD, or just 5.1 points in one way or another, we have 100 yd bonuses) in the 2nd half. soooo bengals. and it wasn’t since mixon went out, somehow gio did better than him anyway in 2nd half. admittedly it’s more likely the DEN QB situation knocked me out, as i’ve been playing DT over these, any of which i’d be in playoffs had i not done: darkwa, forte, m.davis, lockett, doctson. or listened to jaywrong and played mccown over bortles, my opp did play mccown and that’s a 8.6 point minimum swing if i hold mccown and my opp picks up bortles (or was somebody else higher on mccown around here, thought it was jaywrong though)

@The Harrow: Ugh. Cincy’s time of year is fast approaching, so it’d make sense that he’d let you down. Yeah, I think Rudy had Bortles high and I had McCown. Tough to hear you’re out though…

how is nearly everybody fading s.anderson (12 targets with fiedor out, now for year on that). 20 team PPR anderson or burton for this week (own ertz). i have this:
    QB (1) staff/bortles
    RB (2) gurley/collins/drake/forte/b.marshall/m.davis
    WR (3) crabtree/hill/parker/roberts/k.wright
    TE (1) ertz
    1 flex
clearly i need a backup TE again (had dropped watson), and t.taylor SF seems better than wright.

    1. anderson or burton?
    2. i’m getting worried about starting parker, and don’t need roberts anymore with crabtree back. what’s best order of adding taylor SF and the TE’s? (dropping wright 1st, roberts 2nd)

    3. different league, 14 team PPR, have ASJ and olsen. dropping ASJ for what’s best order of
    -d.allen (only 1 week value): @ MIA (28th vs TE’s through week 12)
-njoku (on the rise here, and gordon has to open up middle of the field) vs GB (22nd vs TE’s)
    – s.anderson vs SF (who is good at TE’s, but i’m guessing is since they are 25th or worse against EVERY other kind of receiver, and this guy’ll get targets for sure)
    – ASJ @ DEN (28th vs TE’s, but i don’t like the way kearse/anderson’s usage has taken him out of the offense)
burton @ LAR (4th vs TE’s and no guarantee ertz is even out)

    • Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey says:

@Cheese Eating Surrender Monkey: wish like before with morris + beasley for parker + moncreif (since dropped for roberts last week) i could trade from my RB depth for WR but too late now.
