By the time my next article publishes in two weeks, the curtain will have already dropped on NFL Free Agency. So, what better time than to take a deeper dive into the top QB-free agents we’ll be tracking on March 11? Will those signal callers return to their 2023 team? Will they don new colors? Patience, my friends. Those answers will start coming very soon.

Before we get to that discussion, though, a little housekeeping…

As you know by now, all of us here @RazzballNFL are providing our positional rankings and reviewing them constantly throughout the offseason as news breaks. I’m doing QBs, Sky is doing RBs, Matt is doing WRs, etc. My QB rankings have been out for a few weeks now, but I’m always looking at reasons to move these players up or down. We’ve gone through the Coaching and Offensive Coordinator changes, and the next hurdle is free agency. There’s always news to discuss with the NFL.

As always, all our articles and rankings are free at Razzball. Also, don’t forget to join Bobby (@BobbyLamarco), Sky (@SkyGuasco), Matt (@Stiles08) and me each week for our Tuesday night live show. Come for the insight, stay for the fun!

Now, let’s discuss the free agent QBs.

The Free Agents

  • Player: Kirk Cousins
  • Team: TBD
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): QB10 (QB19)

I’ll put it on record right now that I hope Cousins returns to the Vikings. That team has a lot of weapons, and it would be a shame to see them start dismantling without ever having the chance to make a true run in the playoffs. When his season ended in Week 8, Kirk was ranked as the 6th best fantasy QB of the season. That stat alone weighed heavily on me when I ranked him as my QB10. Note the “experts” strongly agree with it, but that’s their opinion.

All that said, I can definitely see a scenario where Cousins signs with a team like the Falcons. The Falcons have a lot of excellent weapons on offense but just need an established field general who knows how to utilize them properly. Can you imagine the hype around Kyle Pitts and Drake London next season if owner Arthur Blank opens the checkbook to sign Cousins? There is a lot of chatter around the Falcons pursuing a trade for Justin Fields before the draft, but personally, I think Cousins is a better fit. We’ll see!

  • Player: Baker Mayfield
  • Team: TBD
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): QB18 (QB23)

Baker’s going back to Tampa Bay. Mark it down! He may sign a multi-year deal, or he’ll get the franchise tag. Are there other teams that could use 4000+ yards and a 28:10 TD:INT from their QB? Of course, the list is plentiful. However, with so many potential game-changing QBs in the draft and the Bucs not in a position to draft one of them, this marriage makes the most sense. Any other scenario, and it’s a mistake by both sides.

  • Player: Gardner Minshew
  • Team: TBD
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): QB34 (QB39)

Gardner Minshew remains a fan favorite and serviceable backup QB in the NFL. His best option for a starting gig would be to sign with a team drafting one of the college QBs and keep the position warm for the understudy. Most likely though, he’ll ink a contract to backup an established QB and be ready to step in as needed.

My gut tells me he doesn’t resign with the Colts. However, trying to pick a new team is like picking the right number on the roulette table. A lot of teams make sense: Jacksonville, Arizona, New York Jets, Detroit Lions, etc. etc. etc. The list goes on and on. The one thing is certain, though: Gardner Minshew will get a shot to ride again in 2024.

  • Player: Ryan Tannehill
  • Team: TBD
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): QB46 (QB44)

Ryan Tannehill played out his four-year, $118M contract with the Titans and now finds himself a free agent. The 11-year veteran QB’s days as a starter in the NFL are likely done. Much like Gardner Minshew above, there are plenty of backup QB opportunities to be had across the league. However, if one of the teams is relying on a mid-tier veteran QB already (Seattle comes to mind), perhaps he competes for a starting gig. Regardless of where he ends up, he’ll have very limited fantasy value and will likely go undrafted in all but two QB leagues.

  • Player: Joe Flacco
  • Team: TBD
  • My Rank (2024 ECR): QB35 (QB43)

I couldn’t write this article without including one of the most popular under “dawgs” (pun intended) in the fantasy world. Joe may return to the couch again, but after 13 TDs and over 1600 yards passing in just five games, he certainly showed there was something left in the tank. Does he sign with a team for the season or become another “break glass in case of an emergency” option?

If the former, a return to the Browns or even signing with a team like the Jets or Seahawks makes a lot of sense to me. If the latter, there’ll be a lot of speculation around him returning to the league every time a QB gets injured next season. To me, it seems like this situation won’t be solved quickly and he’ll remain a free agent into training camp. I hope I’m wrong, though!

There you go, my 5 top QB free agents. What do you think? Agree? Disagree? Drop your thoughts and predictions in the comments below. Let’s enjoy this ride together.

In the meantime, here is the full QB rankings:
