Week 1 is almost here! And while I’ve obviously taken a back seat this year (self-imposed, just life maaaaan), I’ll still stop by weekly and provide my rankings. I’ll try to get to questions as best I can, but time, or the lack thereof, is becoming an increasing issue for me. All I can promise is that I’ll try my best, but you can always count on MB, Zach, and the rest of the wonderful Razzball crew to help you this entire season. While I’ve found great success with my rankings, all of our contributors have been offering the content and analysis that complements all of our rankings. I’d hope that you come to rely on them as I have so often the past year-and-a-half. Regardless, as I spoiled earlier, Week 1 is incoming, along with another NFL season, so let’s get Razzasty. I’m actually not sure how to pronounce that…

What are my rankings bona fidas? Well, there’s finishing in the FantasyPros Top-10 Draft Accuracy (7th Place) in 2017, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy (23rd Place) in 2017, Top-5 Draft Accuracy (3rd place) in 2016, Top-10 Weekly Accuracy (10th Place) in 2016, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy in 2015 (21st Place) and on average we’ve finished in the Top-10 Draft Accuracy (9th Overall) and the Top-20 Weekly Accuracy (18th Overall) for the past three years. I’d like to think we’re pretty good at this stuff…

What does the word bona fidas mean? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, bo·na fi·des \ ˌbō-nə-ˈfī-ˌdēz , ÷ˈbō-nə-ˌfīdz \ means 1 : good faith : sincerity, 2 : the fact of being genuine —often plural in construction, 3 : evidence of one’s good faith or genuineness —often plural in construction, 4 : evidence of one’s qualifications or achievements —often plural in construction. On a separate note, I think it would make a great name for a cat.

What’s my ranking process? I’ve actually written about this in the past, and instead of working hard for new and enlightening content, I have chosen the more efficient (lazy, ahem) method and dropping in a link to that post here. Honestly, my process hasn’t changed much at all (the ole “don’t fix what ain’t broke” proverb comes to mind) and so my “A Day in the Life of a Fantasy Football Ranker” story still remains relevant to this day. (The TL;DR is: I’m ghetto as fudge. Well, I mean the other “f” word, but I’m hungry.)

How should I use your rankings? The same way your mother does. Which actually makes no sense. (Unless your mother is in the running to always finish top-3 in your Fantasy Football league. And if that’s the case, say hello to her for me.)

12 team ppr better player for the year. Royce Freeman or Josh Gordon . Thanks

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Beef jerky: I think Royce. MB actually is raving over the guy on my text. I’m still kinda feeling this out, but I like the idea of any runner on the Steelers. It’s a similar offense to that of the Chargers, at least in the way they want to use their run game to set the tone first.

  2. nightpandas says:
    (link)

Jay what’s your take on Bell? is it too early to consider trades? Ive got him in a 16 team standard…killer with no Conner. Got offered Dion Lewis and Josh Gordon for him and Kenny Stills. My other Rb’s are Drake, Lynch, Martin and Foreman, Samuels, Allen. WR’s Baldwin, RMatthews, Stills, Golladay, Miller

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@nightpandas: I’ll be honest, I have no idea at the moment. I do like Royce, but I’m going to wait to update my rankings until tomorrow morning. I want to do a bit more research and get a feel for what’s going to happen next and for the long term. This really hurts your RB group though, and while that deal is fair, I’d hold for at least another day. Crazy news.

    • Super Terrific Carpal Tunnel Virusy Box vs Mail Robot (who wins) says:
      (link)

@nightpandas: could depend on if your trades go through immediately or one of those mickey mouse “pending 2-3 day deals”. if you can wait till like sunday morning i’d do that, and while doing that make every owner aware you are trying to move him, somebody might go bigger.

  3. Water Boy says:
    (link)

    Good evening Jam Master JAY!
    It’s week 1 woo hoo!
Drafted on Sunday seeing what you think, any areas to improve? Lastly at the bottom trade scenario if you’d explore?

    It’s .5 ppr here’s my team:

    QB Stafford drafted round 12

    RB1 DJ
    RB2 Melvin Gordon

    WR1 TY Hilton
    WR2 Amari Cooper
    WR3 Emmanuel Sanders

    Flex Royce Freeman

TE Njoku , I drafted him 153rd overall

    Lions D

    Matt prater

Bench : kerryon Johnson, Jamaal Williams, matt brieda, Kupp, sterling Shepard, DJ Moore , Austin ekeler, Michael Gallup & then James Conner.

    –Trade scenario
I just snagged Conner off waivers , would you deal him to Bell owner?

    Here’s the bell owners team

His RBs bell & Derrick Henry that’s it

His WRs Hopkins, green , fuller, doctson, Paul Richardson, Tyler Lockett, Godwin, cam Meredith.

His TEs ertz, Rudolph, d walker

1.) deal my Conner + Emmanuel sanders for AJ green?
    Not enough? Or fair?

2.) deal my Jamaal Williams + Conner for his Rudolph + fuller? Then he gets much needed RB depth

3.) deal my Conner + kupp for fuller? Or substitute kupp for Shepard?

4.) deal Conner to different owner to get Aaron jones to cuff my Jamaal Williams?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Water Boy: I think that’s fair, I think everyone is jumping on the Conner train, could be worth it to get AJ. 2) I’m more iffy on this. 3) Yeah, I think this one is okay too. 4) I like this one the most I think.

  4. Justin says:
    (link)

In half PPR, which two would u start?

Kenny stills, lynch, Chris Thompson, Dion lewis, James White

    • Jay

@Justin: I have Stills and Lewis there. GL!

    • Jay

    • Jay

@Nick: Haha, they are dead to me. DEAD! I actually realized that I typed in Los Angeles twice and it cancelled the Chargers out.

  6. Bobbo says:

    Kirk Cousins or Andrew Luck?
    Marvin Jones or Allen robinson?

@Bobbo: I have Cousins and Jones there in PPR.

  7. SwaggerJackers says:
    (link)

    What up Jay?

    Quick question for you:

Need to drop one in a deep PPR league:

    Adrian Peterson
    Alfred Morris
    Stills
    Lockett

    Good luck this season!

    • And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers! says:
      (link)

@SwaggerJackers: might want to show roster sizing and how many teams and what other/how many other WR and RB you have. in a vacuum of not knowing that stuff lockett. honestly how deep can the league be though if you are thinking of dropping likely starting RB’s? so maybe it’s one of them.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@SwaggerJackers: Probably Lockett, though this is tough, they all have certain value in deep leagues. And you too Swagger!

  8. Allan says:
    (link)

Hey Jay I need a RB and a flex out of Dalvin Cook, Amari Cooper, and Kenyan Drake. Most rankings and projections I’ve seen say Cook and Cooper. Seems like your rankings would go Cook and Drake. Is that the way you’d lean? Thanks.

    • Eli Man Penguin Boy says:
      (link)

@Allan: fun draft we had eh, hehehe. thus the negatives of being in a league where people ask questions the answers to which can be seen by other leaguemates. it’s a PPR he’s asking about too. i’m also with jaywrong. but now that you are an opponent of mine i might say drake and cooper.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Allan: Yeah, I think the gap is enough to where I’m going Cook and Drake here.

  9. MagaMan says:
    (link)

Jay, love some of the early season boldness you da man! Little worry on Luck being so high? I have him and Dalton and have Dalton starting over Luck, for this week at least……Cincy D no joke and Luck looks like a rusty backup right now, or at least he did 10 days ago

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@MagaMan: Yeah, it’s risky, but I think I saw enough to think he’ll come along pretty well this season. I think they are so close this week you can flip the coin and go Dalton here.

  10. SunnyB says:
    (link)

Too low on Ebron… Reich loves 2 TE sets and Ebron will beast in the red-zone.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@SunnyB: Could be right, I have him -2 from the consensus. Ebron’s talent has always intrigued me, I’ll say that.

  11. miles proudfoot says:
    (link)

Who do you like for a flex spot in the Jax-Giants game, Engram or Cole? Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@miles proudfoot: Boy, they are right next to each other in my rankings, leaning Engram there still though. Super duper close.

  12. William Hung says:
    (link)

Went off your rankings and ended up with the following team:

    10 team .5 PPR
    QB- Luck
    RB- Fournette, McCaffrey
    WR- Diiggs, Baldwin, Cooks
    TE- Eifert
    FLEX- Derrick Henry
    Bench:
    RB- Barber, Duke Jr.
WR- Woods, Rishard Matthews, John Ross

I’m thinking of dropping Ross for John Conner and moving Conner into my FLEX for W1
Also thinking of dropping Matthews for Chris Godwin

Thoughts? Also, I’m surprised by Baldwin’s lofty ranking – I didn’t realize he was playing in his words at “85%”, so I thought I was getting good value for him in the 4th round… I feel like I should’ve avoided him, but now I’m kind of stuck with him and gotta pray he guts out a solid year.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@William Hung: Yeah, I’d do that, digging Conner just to see what happens. I think Baldwin will surprise, even at that percentage.

Good to see you back Will!

  13. Jumponit says:
    (link)

I am in a 10 team std league, how would you rank the following RBs:
    Drake, Carson, Dion Lewis, AP

    Thanks!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Jumponit: Sure, I actually have them in that exact order.

  14. Mike says:
    (link)

Le’Veon Bell owner here. 1/2 pt. PPR league. Please rank my RB options:

    – James Conner
    – Jordan Wilkins
    – Duke Johnson

    Thanks!

    • Grant says:
      (link)

@Mike: If Bell is out Conner easily becomes a RB1 this week. No question about who to start of those 3.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

      @Mike: Yeah, go Conner.

  15. Fungazi 2.0 says:
    (link)

Are there always 3 sets of weekly rankings? Not sure which to follow, they are all different ranks of the players I was looking at.

    • Mike says:
      (link)

@Fungazi 2.0: Yeah, it would be helpful to see them all in a single cumulative chart, with each writer’s rankings next to the cumulative rank.

      • Jay

        Jay says:
        (link)

@Mike: Yeah, we’ll start doing consensus rankings shortly. This week has been crazy for me, I’ll try to get them up soon though.

        • Eric the Waiter with Hands for Hands says:
          (link)

@Jay: throw rudy’s in there and have all 4 (it’s 4 or is it MORE now) and average them (like at FP). you might’ve already done this last year (but i don’t think rudy’s were in there).

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Fungazi 2.0: Yeah, we try to offer a variety of view points and access to those writers so you can get an idea of why we think there’s a difference. There will be a staff consensus up shortly.

  16. Wahoo Island says:
    (link)

I saw above that you have the wait and see approach w/ Royce. Why didn’t you apply that to Dalvin Cook as well? Doesn’t he have some usage limitation possibilities…maybe even greater than Royce’s?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Wahoo Island: Yeah, I like Royce, but I was relaying that MB’s love of him has shifted my own viewpoint.

  17. David says:
    (link)

What’s your advise on Dez? Is he worth a stash? I’m in 2 leagues so if you think he’s worth a stash who do you recommend dropping?

    FAAB league 10-team PPR dynasty, 2QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 2Flex, 1DST
Bradford, Lamar, Ronald Jones, Goedert, Anthony Miller
Being a dynasty league prob not dropping Lamar. Bradford also because need that backup for byes and QB is thin on waivers. Won’t need a TE until week 8. Miller & Jones value are upside dynasty options. Tougher decision for dynasty.

    Redraft league 12-team 1/2PPR, 1QB, 2RB, 3WR, 1TE, 1Flex, 1K, 1DST
    Gallup, Breida, Miller

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@David: He is worth a stash I think. Tough though here since I don’t really see room for him. Maybe for Gallup, but I like his potential too.

  18. Steve says:
    (link)

    Trade question:
Would you trade J. Howard and M. Crabtree to get AJ Green and C. Hyde?

    Thanks a lot!

    • Jay

      (link)

      @Steve: I’d hold there.

  19. 976 says:
    (link)

Jaylen Samuel has TE eligibility in yahoo and would stand to get some carries absent LeVeon. Where would he fall in your TE rankings if hes being used as a RB? PPR if it matters.

Second, I know what your rankings say up there. But shouldn’t I start Ajayi over Kupp at flex because he plays TONIGHT and I don’t have to wait all the way until Sunday? Also, who is bigger upside play there?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@976: Maybe inside the top-35 at the most? Not quite sure what to think of that situation yet.

I generally just start the highest ranked player unless the slot on Thursday locks your roster in a weird way. I’d say Ajayi is the upside play, but still leaning Kupp.

  20. Mak says:
    (link)

is Jake Elliot a bad matchup this week? I drafted him but thinking of streaming vinateiri or Carlson for kickers. What u think?

    • Jay

@Mak: I think you’re okay there, I have Elliot over them two.

  21. 976 says:

I can trade my Aaron Rodgers for LeVeon in PPR. Dak, Dalton, and a few others still available. Should I?

    • Jay

    • Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves says:

@Patrick: for one you won’t be able to find anything if you search “SD” as they aren’t called that anymore. above he mentions that there was an error when he tried to put in “LA” twice. i’m assuming this gets fixed. he DOES have them ranked, somewhere.

  27. Mantis Toboggan MD says:
    (link)

    m. bryant gets screwed yet again, real smart ATL, 4th down run against one of the best D’s in entire league. and it wasn’t like 4th and 1 either.

    • Mantis Toboggan MD says:
      (link)

@Mantis Toboggan MD: oop,s it was actually on the 1, but the way that play was run they went backwards immediately, made it look farther. still, top D, they’re ready for a run play, and getting 1 yard if you don’t go straight forward probably won’t work vs them, as their line will overrun you when they expect a run play

      • Mantis Toboggan MD says:
        (link)

@Mantis Toboggan MD: yep, and they would’ve been able to easily tie the game late had they just kicked that 1st QT field goal, actually they’d have WON in that scenario, if we get the bryant XP miss back.

  28. Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves says:
    (link)

sproles huh, not the pro bowl guy you guys got in a trade that if it occurred in fantasy the owner who gave him away would be kicked out for collusion? and that same guy kicked ass in the playoffs, i’m guessing PHI isn’t this stupid, but that ajayi is more hurt than they let on, and decoy’d him to say he’s even active. so awesome to have played him in flex (royce/barkleyin RB slots) over coleman, damn lying liars.

    and now clement too.

10-team PPR: Pick 2 – Jordan Howard, Alex Collins, James Conner, Lamar Miller?

I think Collins has the best matchup and game script. It looks like the Steeler’s game is going to have some rough weather and the ground game could be the main focus (or Big Ben can throw more like he usually has w/o Bell). I’m high on Howard this year and he has the 2nd best matchup out of these 4. I think Miller has the worst matchup, but NE can’t contain Watson, Hopkins, Fuller, AND Miller (I see Fuller & maybe Miller coming out the best), but their o-line isn’t rated very high by PFF.

I’m leaning Howard & Collins, maybe Conner instead of Howard…what do you think?

Side question, should I start Chris Hogan or one of these extra RB’s at my flex? Assuming keep Hogan plugged in, but thought I’d ask anyway.

  36. Pink Doves says:
    (link)

A little bit of concern with weather so WR3. .5 ppr

    J. Gordon
    S. Watkins
    K. Cole

    Thanks!

    • Touchette says:
      (link)

@Pink Doves: Gordon is supposed to see bad weather (high winds, potential issue), is not starting the game & didn’t play preseason at all (though neither is probably not an issue), and is supposedly going to be on a snap count (potential issue). I see Watkins as more of a boom/bust candidate in a new offense with a QB who’s had 1 career start in a meaningless week 16 game. Cole ended the season on a pretty hot streak (for Jacksonville) and with Lee’s injury is the only one (besides Westbrook who has shown sparks but hasn’t broken out yet) that Bortles has thrown to extensively. So, with all that, I would say Cole for the floor and Watkins or Gordon if you need the higher ceiling.

      • Touchette says:
        (link)

@Touchette: One more thing, Watkins doesn’t have a very good cornerback matchup, so that adds more risk to his boom/bust.
