What are my rankings bona fidas? Well, there’s finishing in the FantasyPros Top-10 Draft Accuracy (7th Place) in 2017, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy (23rd Place) in 2017, Top-5 Draft Accuracy (3rd place) in 2016, Top-10 Weekly Accuracy (10th Place) in 2016, Top-25 Weekly Accuracy in 2015 (21st Place) and on average we’ve finished in the Top-10 Draft Accuracy (9th Overall) and the Top-20 Weekly Accuracy (18th Overall) for the past three years. I’d like to think we’re pretty good at this stuff…
What does the word bona fidas mean? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, bo·na fi·des \ ˌbō-nə-ˈfī-ˌdēz , ÷ˈbō-nə-ˌfīdz \ means 1 : good faith : sincerity, 2 : the fact of being genuine —often plural in construction, 3 : evidence of one’s good faith or genuineness —often plural in construction, 4 : evidence of one’s qualifications or achievements —often plural in construction. On a separate note, I think it would make a great name for a cat.
What’s my ranking process? I’ve actually written about this in the past, and instead of working hard for new and enlightening content, I have chosen the more efficient (lazy, ahem) method and dropping in a link to that post here. Honestly, my process hasn’t changed much at all (the ole “don’t fix what ain’t broke” proverb comes to mind) and so my “A Day in the Life of a Fantasy Football Ranker” story still remains relevant to this day. (The TL;DR is: I’m ghetto as fudge. Well, I mean the other “f” word, but I’m hungry.)
How should I use your rankings? The same way your mother does. Which actually makes no sense. (Unless your mother is in the running to always finish top-3 in your Fantasy Football league. And if that’s the case, say hello to her for me.)

The rankings are great, thanks for all your work!
I’m trying to decide who to start in two spots, the last WR and Flex. It’s between Cobb, Cole, Godwin, and Engram. Do you suggest using the rankings to make the decision in terms of just choosing the two highest rated of the four?
Also, drop Geronimo for Duke Jr? Eventually will need to replace a WR with a RB, not sure if this but would be the time. Lost out on the weeks waiver of Lindsay and co.
@miles proudfoot: Thanks for the kind words! And it’s a good q, you’ll notice sometimes people ask questions that could easily be answered by the rankings, but those are based on a vacuum. Every situation is different, a YMMV type thing, since you’ll have a mix of players on a team that could dictate something differently. For instance, with your q, I’d probably do Cobb and Engram for a nice balance of what they bring. And sure, Duke is nice RB depth here.
Nice job with the rankings, Jay!
Need a replacement for Olsen. Options include, Howard, seals-jones, jonna, and Watson. Like Watson this week but should I grab jonna or Howard instead because of long term?
Also should I hold Olsen or drop for a guy like John Brown?
Thanks!
@Steve: Thanks! And I’m digging Watson like you said, and then just stream from here on out. If you have room for a long term option, Howard is fine there.
PPR.. ROS.. A Cooper or C Davis?
@buster moon: Cooper, but it’s close.
I need to drop 1 of these guys for a defense and it’s a tough call please help .5 ppr
Alf Morris
Peyton Barber
Julian Eddlemen
Armani Cooper
I feel like dropping Cooper and have tried trading him for little to nothing but seems nobody wants the bum.
Thanks
@Brian: Yeah, pretty tough. I think Cooper if that’s the case.
Hey Jay!
in PPR:
1) Starting who: J Gordon, Golladay or Godwin ?
2) Pick 2 to start: J Gordon, Golladay, Godwin, Dion Lewis?
3) Starting who: ARob, Crowder or Enunwa?
4) If Fournette sits out, Starting Yeldon or Dion Lewis?
5) Starting Who: P Barber or Ekeler?
Thanks man!!
@JohnnyBeGood: I’d say Lewis and Gordon, and then ARob, and then Lewis if he sits and slot in Golladay. And then Barber… double check when I update this rankings around Saturday too.
@Jay: thanks brotha
standard scoring
Kenny Stills or Golladay?
3 out of 4 start already starting Davante and Corey Davis
@T Cole Anderson: Hmm, probably Golladay there.
One receiver to own right now:
Devante Parker
Ginn
Sanu
R grant
K Cole
Godwin
@Molina bros bbq: I like Parker, safe and boring.
Hey master Jay!
.5 ppr league
Here’s my roster
QB Stafford
RB1 DJ
RB2 Melvin Gordon
WR1 Hilton
WR2 Amari Cooper
WR3 Emmanuel sanders
TE Ricky seals jones
Flex Royce Freeman
Bench kerryon Johnson, jamaal Williams, brieda, ekeler, kupp, Sterling Shepard, Gallup, Geronimo Allison, case keenum
That being said any trades you’d like to make to sure up my squad?
1.) minor trade since I have Royce freeman would you look to trade for Philip Lindsay? If yes who to offer? Kerryon? Geronimo Allison? Lindsay’s owners. Roster is RBs : bell(out), d Henry, lindsay, lat Murray. Looks like he needs RB more than WR.
His WRs: Hopkins, green, fuller, Lockett, doctson, Paul Richardson, Godwin, cam Meredith.
2.) scenario # 2 look to bolster WR depth by trading for either thielin or Davante Adams. He’s not an active owner this is unlikely. But what about my Royce Freeman + Amari Cooper for his thielin or Adams? Or what about Royce for his josh Gordon straight up?
His RBs are Barkley, hunt, drake, duke Johnson, penny,
His WRs thielen, Adams, Gordon, Robby Anderson, sanu.
3.) who to offer to acquire Marvin jones? Kupp + kerryon? Sterling Shepard + kerryon?
His RBs are dion Lewis, ajayi, Sony Michel, Wilkins.
His WRs are Keenan Allen, tyreek hill, Marvin jones, Dorset, amendola.
4.) lastly who are players I should buy low on now?
Thanks man!
PPR for flex…
Collins, Stills, Kupp, or Burkhead?
@attgig: My .02 cents would be to ride Stills until Devante gets back
@attgig: Liking Kupp there. Stills is close though.
Yo Jay, hot tip for ya. I was walking by the break room in my office earlier and ESPN was on. It was on mute, but I read the chyron–they’ve identified Drew Brees as a fantasy BREAKOUT. Take it to the bank; this Brees kid’s gonna come out of nowhere and shock the world!
@steve stevenson: Lol, it’s almost like how CNN uses it’s breaking news music. WE GET IT, EVERYTHING IS BREAKING NEWS.
Whats good J and anyone else reading this,
Got Michael Crabtree in two leagues and not too enthusiastic about using him tonight.
League 1-PPR
Crabtree @cincy or Hogan @Jax
League 2-PPR
Crabtree @Cincy or one of Royce Freeman VS Oak/ Cobb VS MIN/ Cole VS NE/ Ginn VS CLE
So I guess what im asking is do you like Crabtree tonight?
Thanks man
@Keeks: What up! Hmm, I still like Crabtree with your first team, but wouldn’t mind Royce on your second. The overarching theme I think is that I don’t not not like him. Haha.
Does Davante Parker’s return lower Stills way below Marvin Jones in PPR and even below Enunwa??
Thanks!
Dave
@Dave: I wouldn’t say that low, but yeah, it will affect him negatively.
PPR – Cooper or Enunwa?
@buster moon: Cooper there.
Standard league
WR: Beckham, Hogan, Kupp
RB: Hunt, Drake, Barber, Conner, K. Johnson, C. Thompson
Got offered L. Fitzgerald for C. Thompson. Should I pull it or stay put?
@Fizz: Yeah, I like the deal for your team.
12 team PPR.
QB RW3
RB (2) mixon, gurley, mack, michel, barber, kelly, ware
WR (2) hilton, landry, kupp, allison
TE (1) rudolph
1 flex
IR jeffery
drop ware for any of:
backup TE: watson, jonnu, gesicki, thomas
extra WR: enunwa, beasley, hurns
backup QB: (week 7 matchups shown, RW3’s bye)
tygod @ TB (man he has a lot of good matchups, CLE has a nice schedule)
eli @ ATL
trubisky vs NE
winston vs CLE
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: I think Enunwa could help here.
that’s crazy that you can be worse than 46th in RB and WR, really bad in DEF and kicker and strong and average in QB/TE and do that well overall.
@The Harrow: the variance this early of course must be huge.
@The Harrow: Yeah, I think it’s mostly contextual at this stage. I’ve found that RB and WR moves the rankings the best, but QB and TE can shift them in the right direction. I love the data that they provide on the backend, so happy to share since it’s no sweat off my back.
I’m interested to see how things start to settle in a few weeks. Generally there’s always the common performers, but new writers sneak in for a while with new techniques to glean from. Too much nerding out!
Where do you rank Davante Parker since he looks like a go this week?
1,425th
@MB: Interesting. I had him in the 1200’s
@Brent: 142 overall, but yeah, 2000 seems good too.
I was just offered Bell + Kupp for Dalvin Cook. .75 PPR league.
I have Conner. I also have Melvin Gordon, Burkhead, Chris Carson. I also have Tyreek and Thielen, so Kupp would not start for me.
Do I roll with Gordon, Dalvin, and Conner – then slot in Burkhead/Carson when Bell returns. Or pounce on this trade offer, and go Gordon, Conner, Burkhead, until Bell comes back…. then steamroll with Gordon/Bell/Burkhead into the final weeks??
@Nate: Or counter Cook + Burton for Bell + Kelce?
@Nate: I kinda like the deal, but I’m also okay holding. Not crazy about taking a risk on Bell because the price will largely still be significant for a player that we have no idea about.
I’m thinking of playing Barber or Thompson over Fournette, regardless of status, as I think they will limit him. Which would you choose?
@Nick: Barber there.
Cant decide on trading Conner right now. I have a trade on the board of Conner and Diggs for Melvin Gordon and Alshon or Geronimo
14 Team 0.5 PPR
I also have RB- Conner, Saquon, Jamaal WIlliams, M. Mack, Sony Michel, Tarik Cohen WR- Diggs, Emmanuel Sanders, Stills, C. Godwin TE- Ertz QB- Luck
What do you think of this trade?
Hey Jay
great job with the rankings! Keep up the good work
