Week 3 of the preseason is a wrap! We got to see some starters in a more extended role unless you are the Bears and didn’t play them at all. Week 3 of the preseason is known as the dress rehearsal before all of the starters rest for the final week and let the guys on the verge of making the roster battle it out. We’ve lost some big names like Derrius Guice and Marqise Lee but our first couple of rounds seem to be intact. I didn’t hear as much complaining about the helmet rule this week so maybe we are going to get off to a better start in the NFL than initially thought. Here is what I saw in week 3 of the preseason.
The Razzball Fantasy Football Commenter Leagues are still open, join today!
- Carlos Hyde carried the ball 7 times for 45 yards and Nick Chubb doubled the amount of carries and ended up with 46 yards. Carlos Hyde looks to be in line for the majority of work at this point. I still only like Duke Johnson out of this backfield.
- Bilal Powell found the endzone, but neither he or Isaiah Crowell were very effective running the ball for the Jets. Powell saw 10 carries while Crowell only saw 4. I still think Crowell is worth it at his ADP.
- Peyton Barber looked like a 2nd round pick that you can get outside of the top 8 rounds. Seriously, I’m all in on Peyton Barber and will try to get him everywhere that I can. He has good vision and runs hard every play. He really wants to hold onto this starting job. Meanwhile, Ronald Jones II is averaging 1.0 ypc but he did catch a nice pass in the first half.
- Chris GODwin. 3 for 27 yards and a very nice touch down catch.
- Kerryon Johnson looks like a better back than Legarrette Blount already. I just don’t think Johnson is going to get enough work to get me excited.
- Am I the only one who thinks Ryan Fitzpatrick looks better than Jameis? Jameis has made some nice throws for touchdowns in the preseason, but I think Fitzpatrick has looked very crisp against first team defenses. Jameis Winston is still full of mistakes against backups.
- Chris Carson was able to hold onto the ball and found the end zone. Definitely a step in the right direction for him.
- Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs both looked good with Kirk Cousins.
- I want Royce Freeman everywhere. He looks like a superstar running back. I’m willing to grab him in the 3rd round. If your league mates are paying attention, he won’t last long after.
- Christian McCaffery continued to see a lot of volume in week 3. I’m happy getting him in the 2nd round of redraft leagues knowing that he will live up to his draft position.
- People are sleeping on Curtis Samuel. 3 catches for 58 yards.
- Aaron Jones saw some carries. It’s good to see him back out on the field. He had an 8 yard carry. Jones is the most explosive back in the Packer’s backfield and should come as a nice value if given the opportunity.
- Jaylen Samuels and James Conner both look like formidable handcuffs for Le’Veon Bell. James Conner has the edge, but both are draftable in deep leagues.
- JuJu Smith-Schuster all day, every day.
- There are things to like about Jordan Wilkins. The volume that he has seen in the preseason tell me that he will be involved in this offense, even when Marlon Mack returns. Although the big run hasn’t happened yet this offseason, he did have a 29 yard catch.
- It’s hard to gauge how Dalvin Cook looks after two carries, but it’s very encouraging that he saw the football field again. My one concern is that Latavious Murray will see a lot of goal line work. That doesn’t bode well for Cook’s return.

Looking for someone else’s take on a keeper decision. 12 team league .5 PPR where we start QB, WRx3, RBx2, TE, W/R/T, K, DEF, BNx6 and we lose the round where the player was drafted the previous year.
I draft 10th and my best options are: Antonio Brown (1.10), Christian McCaffrey (2.3), Mixon (3.10), Landry (5.10), Corey Davis (6.3), JuJu (13.10).
I’m leaning towards not getting too cute and just keeping Brown and McCaffrey even though someone like JuJu is pretty great value. Seem like the right thing to do? Thanks!
Oh yeah, there’s no way that I’d pass up A. Brown and CMC
@Joe: I agree that I wouldn’t get cute with this. However, do you know where you are drafting yet? If I knew I could keep JuJu in the 13th and have a reasonable shot at getting back similar value of AB, it’s not an awful move. I don’t think I would willingly keep both Steelers WR, so if I am getting cute, I’m going Juju and CMC. Again, I’m only doing this if I think I’m going to get a tier 1 RB or WR by having the first round pick instead of AB.
@Joe: I’m drafting 10th. My best guess at the first round as far as keepers is: 1. None 2. None 3. None 4. None 5. Gurley 6. None 7. Elliott 8. Johnson 9. Bell 10. Brown 11. None (possibly Julio Jones) 12. Michael Thomas
Barkley and OBJ are the only guys I know for sure will be available. Other players like Hunt, Kamara, Hopkins, Cook, Fournette, Allen, etc were all drafted outside the first round so I’m pretty confident they’ll be held. At 10th overall I think maybe I would have a shot to end up with someone like AJ Green/Mike Evans/Freeman/McCoy if I didn’t hold Brown.
@Joe: yeah I wouldn’t give Brown up
10 team PPR league 1-QB, 2-RB, 3-WR, 1-Flex(RB/WR/TE), TE, K & DT. Should I drop Marqise Lee for Keelan, Dede, Moncreif, Lockett, J. Ross, B.Marshall, Ridley, C.Godwin, Meredith, Ebron or O. Howard? WR and TE are my weakest positions. My current WRs are Fitzgerald, Crabtree, M.Goodwin, Crowder, Robbie A. Burton at TE. Thanks!
@Tony C: I never carry 2 TEs in that shallow of a league. I’d drop Lee for Westbrook
Can keep 4 of the following, 10 team, .5 PPR league. 3 WR, 2 RB, 2 Flex (RB/WR/TE), $200 budget, $1 min bid.
Hopkins – $29
Robby Anderson – $2
Marvin Jones – $8
McKinnon – $10
Ajayi – 3
Derrick Henry – $20
Thinking Hopkins, Jones, McKinnon, Ajayi. Agree or would you do Henry over McKinnon?
I agree with you first 4
Kinda loaded up on a lot of these dudes in my 12 team full point PPR keeper league
QB – Cam Newton
RB – CMC
RB – Duke Johnson Jr.
WR – Amari Cooper
WR – Josh Gordon
TE – Evan Engram
Flex – Brandin Cooks
OP – Patrick Mahomes
BENCH – Marlon Mack
BENCH – Danny Amendola
BENCH – Michael Gallup
BENCH – Kerryon Johnson
BENCH – Corey Clement
How do you think this looks?
@Shifty:
Also have Derrius Guice on my IR
@Shifty: love the RB picks being that it’s PPR. Corey Clement could be Big for you. WR could be big, but has bust potential
@MB: Feel the same way which is why I tried to grab Amendola for some type of insurance in case Cooper/Gordon go bust. He should be solid in PPR out of the slot for Miami and occupying Landry’s role.
Thanks for the input
Hi MB,
just finish my draft last week… standard 12 teams league
QB – Russell Wilson
WR – Mike Evans
WR – Baldwin
WR – Robert Woods
RB – Gurley
RB – McCoy
TE – Jared Cook (Auto pick)
W/R – Marshawn Lynch
K – Matt Prater
DEF – Minnesota
Bench – Jamison Crowder, John Brown, Isaiah Crowder, Yeldon, Cameron Brate
What do you think?
Will Wilson and Baldwin, and Gurley and Woods, have an effect being on the same team?
Too risky to have McCoy?
thanks!
@Chris: hey Chris! I like it a lot. Good value. It’ll only hurt you on bye weeks, but you should be ok.
I am in a 14 team ppr league. I just drafted and I think I put together a pretty well balanced squad. Do you see any concerns and any potential positions to upgrade?

It looks good. You’re solid everywhere and handcuffed Mixon. I’m not really high on Mike Williams but some are!
@MB: btw I was just offered baldwin for mixon. Is that a trade worth considering?
@Ryan: no, I wouldn’t
Great writing MB!! Just drafted 1st pick in a 16 team basic league. Sniped everywhere and feel defeated. Pick up Curtis Samuel maybe? Any advice appreciated!
1RB 2WR 1wrterb
Carr, Flacco, Gurly, Chris Thompson, Nick Chubb, Hilton, Marvin Jones, Goodwin, Anthony Miller, Gallup, Rudolph, OJ Howard, Dustin Hopkins, Carolina.
Thanks, Ian! Getting sniped is the worst. Happened a couple times to me last night. Team isn’t bad. Nobody I’d drop for Samuels
This might sound a tad crazy, but I got Wilson in the 7th round as my starting QB. Then in the 9th, i took Mahommes because I am very high on him. This is where you might think I am dumb, in the 10th round I didn’t like any WRs or RBs so I took Garrapolo…My thoughts are all these guys could blow up and I’ll trade one.
My buddy is a Seahawks fan and I am thinking of offering Wilson for his JuJu, dumb move before the season even starts? My other WR’s are Thielen, Jeffrey(worried about him but got him in the 5th), Garcon, Parker
@Brian: the logic isn’t terrible. If you can pull off Wilson for Ju Ju I’d do it today!
@MB: I was testing some trade abalyzers and they only go off of points, so it’s hard to get a feal if it’s a smart move
@Brian: I definitely advise against carrying around 3 QBs
I say this in the most helpful way possible not to bash your moves but the problem with your strategy is that by taking another. and in this case multiple other, QBs after using a high pick on Wilson is that in doing so you negated a large portion of his value. One of the biggest advantages to nabbing a guy like Russ is you are getting a set it and forget caliber guy allowing you to really go in on finding WR and RB value from that point on in the draft.
By taking Mahomes and then later Garropolo you essentially drafted two guys that should never be in your starting lineup as long as Russ is healthy and in turn you missed guys that could help you week to week. You have to think that even at their ceilings for this season they would just be touching the floor of a guy like Russ who finished as the number 1 QB last year.
I see this strategy every year bc in theory it does make a lot of sense but in practice I think you’ll find the trade market for QB is very lackluster, especially early in the season.
That being said, I would much rather have Russ as my qb going into the season than the other two but seeing as he is the only one with any type of real trade value right now I dont think going for JuJu is a terrible idea. However I would likely drop whoever I least prefer of Jimmy G and Mahomes and take a flier on a RB or WR from waivers that you think has some upside. Its a long season and its all about options at WR and RB, having 3 QBs rostered is just too inefficient even if they are all amazing.
@Keeks: he shouldn’t have drafted the 3rd QB in a 1 QB league. i am surprised people are having mahomes over garapololololo though. i haven’t checked the ADPs on them, it might be closer than i thought. one is a pure rookie, the other looked pretty damn good last year when thrust into role with like 5 games left in year. long term i WOULD take mahomes though in a dynasty. the “looked damn good while having about no time to have training camp or learn playbook” is a pretty big flag for me for THIS season though. even GREAT future QB’s don’t do that.

10 team half ppr
Had pick 7 in my draft and was thrilled to see Antonio fall. Followed that up with Melvin Gordon and then Stefon Diggs.
Round 4 is were it got dicey, I knew I needed another running back and I watched as the guys I was targeting kept getting taken. When it got back to me the top RBs available were Kenyan Drake, Alex Collins, Derrick Henry and Jay Ajayi.
I was burned by Ajayi last year and ended up semi panicking and taking Drake. Immediately regretted it and so I followed that up by doubling down on RB the next two picks with Dion Lewis and then Mark Ingram to stash. Later I was able to add Tarik Cohen to the fold.
The end result has me feeling pretty decent as far as covering for what I deemed as a mistake but I was hoping to get your best case, worst case, and realistic expectations for Kenyan Drake? Additionally how would you grade my RB strength with Melvin, Drake, Lewis, Ingram, Cohen?
@Keeks: you’re going to be solid at RB. I would’ve been thrilled if you would’ve said that you took Collins.
Realistic expectation: 1,100 all purpose yards and 7 touchdowns, with some frustrating weeks.
High expectation: sets the world on fire like he was able to do for a couple games last year. Becomes a dual threat back. High end RB2/low-end RB1
Low expectation: he never really pulls away from Frank Gore. Touches the ball 12-15 times per game. Thanks. Dolphins stink, he can’t find the end zone
What do you think is going on with Ajayi could this injury be the knee problem he’s had for a while now ? I’m trying to decide weather I should drop DJ Moore for Clement I don’t own Ajayi but Clement would be a great pick if Ajayi misses time.
@Jake: nothing has been said besides “leg injury”. I drafted Clement in the last round of my draft last night because of the possibility
Howdy, would you go Royce Freeman over alex collins or Jerrick McKinnon?
@johnnyhobbes: Also Clement is hanging around in free agency- drop Rex Burke head tevin coleman or jamison crowder ?
Yes, over Jerrick McKinnon. My rankings will reflect this on my next update
@MB: to be clear. This is Royce Freeman > Mckinnon
@MB: right on thanks
hi MB good stuff
how does your draft strategy change in a 2 QB league (10 teams, PPR)? I’m thinking if you have a top 8 pick or so you still take the best RB or WR available but after then you gotta start considering QB right away. And obviously you draft a 2nd QB way higher than you normally would. What would your draft strategy be in a 2 QB league?
thanks
Thanks! Yup I go stud first, then QB1 with QB2 off of the board by round 5. Targeting Alex Smith as QB2
@waffles: if it’s a 6 pt per TD thrown 2 QB i’d highly advise you to DO ANYTHING to get a top 5 QB. even if that means missing a top RB/WR. i’m in one of those and rodgers did (to me) and should’ve went 1st overall 3 or 4 years ago in 1st year draft. i’ve never gotten lower than 4th in that league since, even the year rodgers got hurt for the whole year (or was it near it). but i also hoard up QB’s as well.
@Yr Never Too Old For Balloons: yeah, that makes sense.
@Yr Never Too Old For Balloons: it’s 4 per passing TD but thanks for the input
Hey was also curious if you would go clement over rex burkehead, jamesion crowder or tevin coleman?
Clement>Crowder
trying to pre-plan a little for my 10tm 1/2PPR, superflex auction league…according to fantasy pros auction $’s, which a majority of the league go by, i can get either of these starting rosters. my point value per game says roster 1 is better (116 vs. 113), but for some reason I like roster 2 better….am i crazy?
Roster 1:
QB marcus mariota
RB todd gurley
RB ezekiel elliott
WR doug baldwin
WR JuJu Smith-Schuster
RB/WR alvin kamara
SFLEX blake bortles
TE jordan reed
Roster 2:
QB marcus mariota
RB alvin kamara
RB melvin gordon iii
WR keenan allen
WR doug baldwin
RB/WR leonard fournette
SFLEX blake bortles
TE jordan reed
I love roster 1
In a half PPR league, would u drop any of these guys I currently own: Jordy Nelson,Burkhead, Peyton barber,Tarik Cohen.
Waiver has: Dede,John Ross, Godwin, Corey clement.
@Justin: love Dede but I’m not sure that I’d drop anyone for him. If you were going to it’d be Jordy
Wow Clement over McKinnon did I read that correctly from above that is bold . Would you take Morris over Clement in .5 ppr ?
@Jake:
My bad I misread that above but would you take Clement or Morris just out of curiosity ? Thanks
@Jake: no I didn’t say that. If I did it was a mistake Lol. McKinnon > Clement. Clement > Morris
@MB: yeah “bold” wouldn’t be the best way to describe having clement over mckinnon
@Eric The Waiter with Hands for Hands: I can see where you guys got confused. to be clear, Royce Freeman>McKinnon. Not Clement>McKinnon.
@MB: i wasn’t confused, i showed up later and was just saying anybody who actually DID say clemont over mckinnon is nutzo, didn’t mean i thought you did.
Gotcha
test test test
@mike: howdy
Need some advice on a first round pick in a keeper league. We can keep one per position in the round drafted (no first rounders).I kept Jordan Howard and Keenan Allen. I have the 6th pick. After keepers, I will likely be left to choose from Fournette, Beckham, and Julio Jones. In the second round, the likeliest best RB left will be, if I’m lucky, Mixon, McKinnon, Drake or Royce Freeman. Best WR in second will most likely be Hilton, Hill, Cooper, or Landry.
Who would you pick between Fournette, Beckham and Jones in the first? In what order? Thanks.
@Mike: Fournette, OBJ, then Jones
12 Team Dynasty league, .5 pt ppr. Thoughts…
QB – Watson
RB – Fournette
RB – Lamar Miller
WR – Michael Thomas
WR – JuJu
WR – Stills
TE – Doyle
W/R/T – Carson
W/R/T – Barber
Key bench guys :
Anthony Miller
Chris Godwin
Tarik Cohen
Dez Bryant
Do I need to upgrade somewhere?
Looks really good!
Picking 9th in a 12 Team, 1 pt PPR , 1QB 2RB 3 Wr 1TE 1 Flex League. picking 9th. Expect Gurley Bell. D Johnson, Elliott, Brown, Kamari to be gone . Please give me your next three picks. Thank You for your help
Barkley, Hopkins, Fournette
Which WR flier do u like better? .5 ppr 12tm 5 keepers, 3wr format. John Ross or Dede Westbrook? Thx!
Westbrook
10 team PPR 2 QB league, how did I do?
QB Brady
QB Mahomes
RB Zeke
RB Gordon
RB Henry
WR Jarvis
WR Amari
WR Alshon
TE Burton
D Jax
Bench E Sanders, Chris Thompson, Crowder, Golladay
Thanks!
The only position that I’m not a fan of is the WRs. Very boom or bust. Like that you have Sanders though, he should be a value
MB who is going to have better season josh Gordon or Jamal Williams… They offer me a trade my Jamal williams for josh Gordon
@Jose: Josh Gordon has too much upside to pass that up. But it depends on positional need
@MB: my team is
QB Russell Wilson
RB Alex Collins
RB Royce freeman
WR Julio jones
WR Julian Edelman suspension
WR David funchess
TE rob gronkowski
Flex Jamal Williams
Bench Aaron jones,ty Montgomery, Dez Bryant
WR
@MB Hey! I currently have David Njoku as my TE1. Do I need to pickup another TE for the bye week and drop one of these players from my bench? I currently have the following:
-Chris Carson
-Jamaal Williams
-Christian Kirk
-Geronimo Alison
-Matt Ryan
-Duke Johnson
The wire has the following TEs left:
-C Brate
-B Watson
-C Clay
-R Seals-Jones
-V McDonald
-V Davis
Thanks!
I usually carry one tight end and worry about it when the bye week gets close.
I’m in a keeper league where you keep 4 guys, it’s a half point
I have
Qb Newton
Rb gurley
Rb kamara
Wr Julio
Wr aj green
Te jack Doyle
Bench Allen Robinson, garçon, Dion lewis, Penny, cj Anderson, clement
I was offered OBJ and Matt Ryan for Julio and Newton.
What do you think of this trade ? I rejected it
Thanks
Yeah I’m glad you rejected it, I’m very high on Newton this year
12 team half PPR 2 QB dynasty. slow draft, missed cole by ONE pick (and i have m.lee so it REALLY hurts)
QB: rodgers, mahomes, tyrod, rosen, foles
RB: (2): burkhead, michel, ingram, kamara, perine
WR (3): edleman, k.allen, jordy, d-jax, thielen
TE (1): ertz
2 flex (R/W/T)
DL m.lee
so i need WR (and perine losing value too, but these WR left are better now than the RB’s left)
after checking with tons of sources, these are all (in different spots) the highest ranked guys left: t.williams (LAC, but having k.allen might complicate this), grant (#2 at IND), allison (dynasty guys say him here), j.brown (this almost can’t be the answer), ross, a.wilson (he got that glowing post earlier, but is the #3 at MIA), enunwa.
most sources say t.will
bippity boppity
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: or would you grab a RB #5 here in one of : kelley, ekeler, wilkins, ware, blount, clement. i don’t need to drop anybody for this pick either.
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: and ware.
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: or t.smith NO, sounding like he might possibly be the #2 at NO, that would be huge.
@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: I’m cool with T. Will
half PPR league. heres my team
antonio brown, michael thomas, mckinnon, alex collins, delanie walker, ben roth, kenyan drake, golden tate, corey davis, peyton barber, tarik cohen, andrew luck , chris thompson.
what you think?
@Mak: really strong. Nice RBs after the WR/WR start
MB here is my team
QB Russell Wilson
WR Julio jones
WR devin funchess
WR julian Edelman ( suspension)
RB Alex Collins
RB Royce freeman
TE rob gronkowski
Flex Jamal Williams
K Matt Bryant
Def Jacksonville Jaguars
Bench dez Bryant, Aaron jones, Chris Thompson
what do you think?
@Jose: I like the team. You can’t carry Dez Bryant without him being on a team especially with Edelman being suspended with such shallow benches. Also with such shallow benches, you should be able to find a better 2nd wide receiver than Devin Funchess
