With the first week in the books, let’s see who you can pick up to try and help you out from our friend, the waiver wire.  The percentage in the parenthesis next to the player with be the percentage unowned in ESPN leagues.  That saves me the hassle of writing ‘Available in 96% of ESPN leagues’ over and over.  Thanks me.

Alfred Morris, WSH RB (85%) Morris took the lead back role in Washington so far. Morris put up strong numbers in the Redskins’ win over New Orleans (28-96-2TDs). Washington has a tasty matchup with St Louis this week so Morris could go off again.

Patriots D/ST (83%) – New England’s defense held Titans’ running back Chris Johnson to 4 rushing yards on 11 carries. Add to that a sack, fumble, touchdown play in the second quarter and the Patriots make a good defense to pick up off the wire. And they host woeful Arizona this week.

Stephen Hill NYJ WR (95%) – Hill scored a couple touchdowns as the Jets thrashed the Bills in week one. We’re not sure if the aerial assault continues against Pittsburgh but Mark Sanchez may need someone to throw to either way.

Randall Cobb GB WR (99%) – Worth a look in the Packers’ short week before they play the Bears Thursday night. Cobb picked up 75 yards receiving and is always dangerous as a kick returner. With Greg Jennings suffering from a groin injury, Cobb might be in line to step up and take the #2 spot across from Jordy Nelson.

Greg Zuerlein STL K (95%) – Yes, it’s a kicker. Zuerlein hit a trio of field goals in the Rams’ close-shave loss to Detroit. The man called “Greg the Leg” will also add a bunch of bonus points for long-distance field goals so give the rookie for the Rams a shot.

Matt Hasselbeck TEN QB (99%) – Hasselback is listed here since Jake Locker dinged up his shoulder against the Patriots trying to make a tackle. The injury isn’t going to keep Locker on the sidelines for this week’s game against San Diego. Hasselbeck is worth a stash if Locker continues to play the way he does.

Dexter McCluster KC RB-WR (95%) – McCluster didn’t get a carry against Atlanta but was involved in the passing game because of the score. He’s a sneaky option as the Chiefs visit Buffalo in week two.

Danny Amendola STL WR (83%) – Amendola is a must-own in PPR formats. Simply said. The Rams will likely trail in most games this season and Sam Bradford will need someone to throw to and Brandon Lloyd is no longer available.

Marcedes Lewis JAX TE (96%) – He was the fantasy darling at tight end two years ago and maybe he’s on his way back to that perch again. Lewis finished with 2 catches for 55 yards a touchdown against Minnesota. Look for QB Blaine Gabbert to look more to his 6-foot-6 tight end to cause matchup problems for the rest of the season.

Andrew Hawkins CIN WR (100%) – Caught 8 passes for 86 yards last night for the Bengals.  Sky talked about him a bit in the Monday Night Football post and I have to agree with him.  Namely because I’m the one who handed him the sharpie.  You have to click on that link to make sense of what I just said.

I have Hillis, Gerhart, and Jacquizz Rogers on my bench in a PPR league. Would you drop any of them for McCluster or Cobb? AP’s performance has me down on Gerhart …

@Salty Balty, Watch and see if Greg Jennings goes or not. If he’s out then make a play for Cobb. And out of those three, I’d drop Hillis.

Jamaal Charles did his ACL a year ago; AP just eight months. I’d have more confidence in Charles and thus less in Hillis.

    Pick one:

Dwyer, Hill, or James Jones as a pickup this week?

    Thanks!

      (link)

@JTR, I’m not the red rhino but what do you need, short term or long? I think Jones is probably the safest next week, with Greg Jennings injured on a short week.

Dwyer got a vote of confidence from his coach but they’re facing the jets next week, and that backfield will get muddy when Mendenhall returns towards the end of the year.

Hill is going to be completely hit or miss, I think. Buffalo was waaay too overcommitted on D and Pitt’s got a better unit. Hill’s probably going to be boom or bust all year, but is the most likely to have value at the end of the year.

Personally I’d take Dwyer, but I can never get enough RBs. And I’d probably bench him this week.

How about some FAAB dollar amounts, what is this amateur hour?

    • Sky

      Sky says:
      (link)

FAAB is about how much you believe in a player, not about whether they’re widely available. You might spend $20 to $25 on Morris, someone else might only bid $10.

      • Rags says:
        (link)

@Sky, Kind of agree with Hans. In addition to who’s available, we’d love to get how much YOU believe in a player as an added opinion, you being the expert and all…

I’ll run it by Andrew as he’s the one whose doing the waiver post.

Want to pick up Amendola in my .5 PPR league can I drop Titus Young or Denarius Moore for him?

  5. dp says:
    (link)

Should I attempt to drop Little for Cobb in a .25 PPR? The Browns didn’t exactly inspire confidence in me.

    • Rags says:
      (link)

@dp, I’d do that. Little’s not going to catch passes if Weeden can’t throw them. That’s my two cents.

Big Ben’s wife is having a baby in the middle of the season do you see that as being a distraction or motivation to succeed? Thinking about picking up Flacco as a replacement QB2 behind Vick and dropping Ben

I like your take on Marcedes I have serious issues at TE and although I cant run with him as a starting TE but I am definately looking at stashing him as a second option. Hoping for a repeat of 09!!!

Just a follow-up to my question above. If Jennings sits, would you start Cobb over Denarius Moore (assuming he plays)? Thanks. Love the site.

Drop Cedric Benson for any of the waiver RBs?

    Dwyer
    Morris

  10. Rags says:
    (link)

My RBs are Martin, Gore, Donald Brown, Rashad Jennings, Hillman, and Mendenhall (late round keeper stash).

My WRs are Megatron, Austin, DHB, Britt, Santana Moss, and Emmanuel Sanders. I need Moss and Sanders (or another WR for week five, when Dallas, Detroit, Oakland and Tampa all have their bye.)

    On the wire is:
Mikel LeShoure – he should be owned, right?
    Andrew Hawkins
    Dexter McCluster – (WR eligible)
    Stephen Hill
    James Jones
    Rod Streater
    Donald Jones

Is that the order you’d take them? I’m dropping Hillman first. Are these guys better than Moss or Sanders? Is Rashad Jennings droppable? And what would you spend out of $100 FAAB?

Also, I have the Chicago D against GB this week, but in our league, you get points for return yardage as well as the normal sacks, D/ST TDs, etc. Is it worth rostering a second defense this week? Or roll the dice and hope Hester breaks one to make up for the points allowed?

    • Frank says:
      (link)

@Rags, i would drop hillman and Jennings and pick up leshoure and mccluster, and pick up hill and drop moss

    • Wilsonian says:
      (link)

@Rags, when is LeShoure supposed to be back? Do you see him jumping right in and providing an instant impact here?

I was offered Brady/Charles for my Rodgers/Garçon/P. Thomas.

Should I go for it with my F. Jackson injured again and at this she it worried more so.

    Rest of my team is;
    RB-Ridley/S. Jackson
    WR-Bowe/Smith/Burleson/K. Wright
    TE-Pettigrew/Gresham
    QB-RG3

I have both Tamme and Rudolph in 16 team PPR league. I’m kind of waiting to see which one to keep and then let the other one go. I have Matt Ryan as QB but don’t currently have a backup QB and most other people in the league do. I was thinking of dropping Rudolph to pick up Russell Wilson off waivers. What are your thoughts on this?

  13. Jason says:

What’s up? I got a week one victory despite my starting qb and two rb’s doing nothing. You’ll know who is who when you read on. I need to do better next week. So, I have waiver number 2 and I’m thinking of using it for Morris. If yes who should I drop? Rb R. Williams of Arizona or Wr R. Meacham of San Diego?
    My team looks llike this: Qb ( E. Manning), Rb’s ( C. Johnson, BJGE, F. Jackson, S. Greene, R. Williams, M. Leshoure) Wr’s ( R. White, D. Bryant, R. Wayne, R. Meacham, N. Washington)
    Thanks for your thoughts.

Would u drop lafeil for Jeffrey (chi) or hawkins(cin)?
    Standard league
Hawkins does have some sproles in him..and with green double teamed could have a big year?? Also seems safe with getting passes..
    U agree?
    Thanks

  15. Ryan says:

Would u drop Hillis for Mccluster? Standard league
Charles looks good, hills looked slow and Mccluster getting touches plus is rb/WR eligible in espn league.
    Just trying to improve bench!!

Would you drop Ingram for Ced Benson? Standard league.
Both passing offenses but Ingram has more crowded backfield.
