Well, here we go again. Another ACL bites the dust, adding Kelvin Benjamin to a list that already includes Silas Redd, Jeff Heuerman, Ryan Clady, Dante Fowler, Travis Long, Ty Powell, Brandon Harris, Louis Delmas, Shaun Suisham, Stephen Hill, Zach Sudfeld, Sal Capaccio, Reshard Cliett, JaCorey Shepherd, annnnnnnnd Brandon Person. That’s honestly a pretty impressive team, one that could probably do well against the Browns. Even moreso with actual functioning ACL’s. Honestly though, on days like this, you wonder how players would be able to fare with an owner-driven 18-game season when they can’t go two weeks of preseason without some body part exploding. No doubt, this is a downright grueling game, but when Kelvin Benjamin, an up-and-coming wide receiver is lost for the year, well, you can’t just say “shucks” and move on. Well, I mean, you sorta have to, but you don’t have to like it. Especially if your a Panthers fan. Nope. You just say “F*ck!” and drink copious amounts of alcohol…

While I’d like to say that Cam Newton can figure this out (Joe Flacco wouldn’t actually mind this much depth), he does still actually have to throw the football at some point this season, and I have the feeling that Ted Ginn Jr. and Ted Ginn Jr,’s twin brother, Philly Brown aren’t really up to the task… and actually, I’m not sure Devin Funchess (hamstring issue currently) or Jerricho Cotchery (senior citizen issue currently) are going to help either. I have no idea what to think of this unit, except that they might have to throw to Greg Olsen on every down they don’t run it. So I guess my analysis is: Greg Olsen, draft him! The cutting edge analysis you’ve come to expect from Razzball, I know. We’ll have to wait and see if there’s anyone out there for the team to sign (sorta doubtful) or how Funchess rebounds from his hamstring injury, but as of now, the Panthers are approaching Seahawks territory when it comes to non-functioning wideouts…

  • In some good news, LeSean McCoy‘s potential hamstring tear yesterday turned out to be just a strain. He’ll miss all of the preseason, but will be ready for Week 1. I’m not as down on him as I probably should be… unless there’s a setback. McCoy got knocked around so hard last year, there were, I think, at least four separate times he looked dead on the field and then twenty or thirty seconds later he was back in the game, so I might lower him a bit in my rankings, but not by a lot. Ray Rice was rumored to be a possible signing, but the Bills already have enough punch with the signing of IK Enemkpali.
  • Tom Brady is still suspended… don’t ask. I just don’t care enough.\

Note: Our 2015 Auction Values will be coming out later today!

First draft last night — super flex league
I know you hate murray this year but i see him having a big year in philly — still probably should have went julio/dez or julio/forte but i feel good with murray/bryant
The graham/olsen situation played out like this i took graham when the wr i wanted were gone at that spot then i saw that benjamin was out and olsen was still there and i didnt like any of the wrs that were coming up either and would have taken marshall there most likely. So i had the thought that i could try to trade graham and keep olsen as TE or just keep them both for a bit until a trade opportunity comes up .
I also sent out a couple trade feelers graham gore for peterson eifert and graham perriman for odell to a kid who has brown odell alshon mike evans

    1. (10) Dez Bryant WR
    2. (11) DeMarco Murray RB

@Barker: Well, I think hate is a strong word. I just don’t think we’ll see the volume that we’d like to see. Murray and Bryant are just fine.

Let’s see how Funchess’ hamstring goes, but I think he’s a speculative add right now.

@Barker: hey does anyone want to join a fantasy football league with some friends and I email me @ [email protected]

  2. Connor says:
    (link)

With the Benjamin news, are you taking Olsen over Kelce in a half point ppr league? Maybe even over Graham, although I understand they have different costs? My strategy has been to wait on Rudolph or Eifert but I am strongly considering grabbing Olsen earlier

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Connor: Yeah, I was probably taking Olsen over Kelce there regardless. Love Olsen again this season.

  3. Blake says:
    (link)

so you don’t think funchess will be a target monster? the other wideouts wont and Olsen cant catch everything.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: Yeah, I could see it, but he’s having hamstring issues right now. Let’s see how this looks a week from now.

      • Blake says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

and olsen will probably take a 3 or 4th rd pick – Is it worth it for a PPR league?

        • Jay

          Jay says:

          @Blake: I believe so.

  4. Mark says:

In an IDP league that doesn’t have positions, do you still like Watt over the big 2 LBs? Scoring is pretty standard I believe.

  5. Nate The Red says:

There is a kid rookie named Paul Browning deep on the Panthers depth chart. Huge wing span and caught the 2 pt conversion in their preseason game that won it. He could turn some heads. This might be his opportunity.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Nate The Red: nice read there. Could be a big deal, and it’ll be interesting to see how his snaps play out this next game. We might write about him as well.

  6. James says:

12 team PPR keeper league, 6 point td

I have two keepers Antonio brown and cj Anderson. I don’t have my 2nd or 3rd round pick. I will be the 9th person to pick in the first round. Most players from tier 1 and some from tier 2 will be gone. Should I take Rodgers if he’s there or wait on QB and take the best player available?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@James: if Rodgers is there, I’m okay with it, but unless Qb depth is terrible from keepers, I’d go best available.

  7. Blake says:
    (link)

Ellington as #13 in PPR rankings? wont C2JK take a lot away and ellington could be reduced to a bit player? I know it is hard to say now but isn’t that the reason they brought Johnson in as ellington was underwhelming?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: totally a great point, but I want to wait a few more days before I change my ranking. I’m hesitant to make changes right away before at least seeing CJ in a game… the snaps, when, how does he look, etc.

  8. WalleyWorld says:

Dynasty league. Was able to flip Abdullah for Winston, Coleman and Tre Mason. I do own Gurley, so I think it will be nice to have his handcuff. I was also sitting on Mallett as my starting QB, so I think I did okay here.

Had high hopes for Kevin White in this same league. WR’s are now Mike Evans, Martavis Bryant, and Devonte Adams as my #3/possible flex. Also picked up Marquess Wilson, so not sure if he has any upside. Should I try and make a move for another WR? Just hold for White to come back? I have an offer to trade White for Green-Beckham. Both pretty big time talents but White seems like the better bet long term. What do you think? Thanks.

    • WalleyWorld says:
      (link)

@WalleyWorld: Also would like to know what you think of Moncrief long term. May be able to acquire him on the cheap. Thanks again.

      • Jay

@WalleyWorld: I too like Donte long term, and if on the cheap, why not? Go for it.

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@WalleyWorld: I like that trade for you a lot. I think holding here for now is okay at WR, and I agree, I like White long term.

Is there a way to export your rankings into excel? You used to have an excel button I clicked and it would come up in excel but I don’t see it now.

      • Blake says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

Also, have a question about drafting using your rankings. Inevitably, when it comes my turn to draft. I might have a guy ranked at say 35 but his ADP or yahoo ranking is 55. its the 3rd or 4th round and am confused if I should take that player? or do I wait since his ADP is a lot lower I might get hime coming back?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Blake: Yeah, it depends on where you are in the draft. The rankings themselves aren’t necessarily where the players will go in your draft, but rather where I perceive their value should be.

Next week, I’ll be going over my rankings vs. Yahoo and ESPN, that might help too.

          • Blake says:
            (link)

            @Jay:

thx – happens every year. Get confused if I should take the player or wait?? Do I need to just draft via ADP but highlight some players to keep my eye on based on your rankings where there might be value?

secondly – Anyway to export the IDP player rankings to excel?

            • Jay

                @Jay:

Jay – don’t worry about the IDP rankings. I copied them myself into excel

just worried/curious on how to draft using your rankings for my PPR league

                • Jay

                  Jay says:
                  (link)

@Blake: I’d say use them as a guide, trying to identify value, mark how the trends are going. I wouldn’t treat any rankings like gospel, but do remember, if it’s a Yahoo draft, people will inadvertantly (or on purpose) use their rankings, same if it’s on ESPN or any other outlet, so use that to your advantage to snipe guys.

              • Blake says:
                (link)

                @Jay:

Sorry to keep commenting – but it seems like I get the same players at rounds 3 through 5 in a 14 team league

                Allen robinson
                J Landry
                D Hopkins
                A cooper
                P Garcon

Always miss Olsen in round 4 – probably need to take him in the 3rd round

                • Jay

                  Jay says:
                  (link)

@Blake: No worries, it’s what I’m here for. Yeah, but don’t underestimate the value of those guys either. I like all of them if taken in the proper round. I’ve always loved Olsen, but if the price is too high, I’m okay going with a, say, Ertz or something.

  10. Johnny Hammershanks says:
    (link)

I have the 12 pick in a .5 PPR 12 team draft coming up and have done a few mocks. What are your thoughts on who to take with my first two picks? RB/RB? WR/WR? RB/WR?

I’m leaning towards going either WR/WR or RB/WR. Would you rather take something like Julio/Dez, Demarius/Dez, or Julio/Hill?

As you as high on Julio and Hill that I am?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

I like RB/RB this year if the names are there, otherwise RB/WR works for me. Then again, if you go Jones/Hill, I really love that combo. I just think with WR depth being pretty strong this year, you should be fine grabbing those RB’s.

      • Johnny Hammershanks says:
        (link)

@Jay: Thanks. if Gronk is there, what are your thoughts on him? Also, what is your take on McCoy (injury, bad team, etc.)?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Johnny Hammershanks: Eh, I’m still okay with McCoy, and while the team overall is bad, (and the QB situation), that O-Line makes me salivate.

I think Gronk is going to be a tad bit expensive this year. If he feels right, I’m okay with it, but I wonder what Brady being out for four games will do. Not quite sure if that’s a positive or a negative yet.

          • Johnny Hammershanks says:
            (link)

@Jay: OK thanks, I just know that the top 6-7 RBs will be gone before my turn, so I’m wondering if I went RB/RB who you were target? I’m pretty set on taking Hill, but after that do you think it’s wise to lean more to a WR1?

  11. Mike says:
    (link)

With Benjamin going down to you see the Panthers relying more on Stewart (pending he stays healthy) and the run game?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Mike: I could see a little bit more emphasis, but sooner or later, that becomes really easy to gameplan around. Smokey will be taking a better look at this and doing a write up on the situation in a few days.

  12. Make it Wayne says:
    (link)

    Hey jay!

    H2h points/10 team/ .5 ppr/ keeper league

Would you do a pre-draft trade to deal one of my stud WR’s ; Demaryius Thomas/Odell Beckham jr are the stud WR’s .
I was originally planning keeping both WR’s but now I’m seeing if you’d recommend dealing one of them for a stud RB? I was thinking Charles, Lacy, Le’veon Bell or Marshawn Lynch.

If yes my keepers would then be either DT/(or Beckham)+ one of the stud RB’s! , but would I have to include a late round pick too you think? Or just try WR for RB?

Our keeper lock date is in 3 weeks so I have time it’s sun sept 6 at 8pm

    – the bell owner is a giants fan I may be able to swing that.

The others I know don’t have WR’s to keep:

Lacy owner also has Rodgers & gronk as keeper possibility (ty Hilton too)

Lynch owner has brees, Edelman, as other potential keepers.

Charles owner I doubt he’d trade but he has dez bryant, Matt Ryan as other potential keepers

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Make it Wayne: I think if you’re going for a stud RB, this season is the one to do it. The depth is terrible right now. In a keeper league, I think a Thomas and late round pick for Bell is a great deal for you. I’d hold onto Beckham for dear life in this format though, or fleece the homer.

      • Make it Wayne says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

Thanks jay! The keeper set up is , you aren’t locked in w/ the keeper player(s) forever , just year to year. Does that change things?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Make it Wayne: Not too much. I still would want Bell and OBJ, probably the best two talents at their position who are also young.

  13. Blake says:
    (link)

ok Jay – Used your rankings in conjuction with ADP with my draft – 14 team PPR league.

    positions:
    QB
    RB
    RB
    WR
    WR
    WR/RB/TE
    TE
    K
    DEF
    3 bench slots

    I had the 5th pick

    so starting at rd 1

    Rd 1 Leveon Bell (5)
    Rd 2 Justin Forsett (24)
    Rd 3 Mike Evans (33)
    Rd 4 Greg Olsen (52)
    Rd 5 Amari Cooper (61)
    Rd 6 Chris Ivory (80)
    Rd 7 Ryan Tannehil (89)
    Rd 8 Reggie Bush (108)
    Rd 9 Pierre Garcon (117)
    Rd 10 Devin Funchess (136)
    Rd 11 Denver
    Rd 12 Dan Bailey

top 6 QB’s went in the 1st and 2nd round. Rivers went right before my pick so I took tannehil. Only ones left were bridgewater. Probably reached for Bush but I am in a PPR league. How did I do?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: I like it. No big weakness here, solid bench. It’ll be interesting to see how the value of Funchess goes from here on out. I think the 10th round is great value if his hamstring heals up fast.

  14. Blake says:
    (link)

    Jay,

In standard league rankings – u have forte really high. doesn’t his value take a hit in a non PPR league?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Blake: I love him because of his consistancy, and management keeps on harping about using him even more than last season. I think we could see a career year.
