“Look at me! My hamstring and I are having relationship issues! Weeeeee!”

See what I did there with the title? Yes you did. Yesterday, there were some concerns that the Bills’ LeSean McCoy may not be ready for Week 1 after suffering a hamstring injury early in the preseason. And now Rex Ryan has expressed doubt as well:

I hope,… if not then the next man has to step up. So we will see. If he is not ready to go, he won’t be in there.”

It appears that McCoy is dealing with a “small tear” in the hamstring (proving that anything can sound delicious when combined with the word ham), tearing in a spot “that couldn’t have been better”. Okay. I’m no longer hungry, so I have to ask, even if it’s best possible tear in the history of all hamstrings (nope, I’m hungry again), it’s still a tear of the hamstring, right? I have to hand it to them though, a lot of hustle here to play this story down. Yes he tore his hamstring. But it’s the best possible tear ever! If McCoy is a no-go, which seems likely at this point, it’ll be Bryce Brown and Anthony Dixon getting most of the carries, as Karlos Williams is still recovering from an undisclosed leg injury. No worries though, I hear Fred Jackson is available…

In other news…

  • Just coming off cutting said running back depth from their roster, the Bills are also considering cutting Matt Cassel. While I wouldn’t say he’s been terrible this preseason, I would find it odd for a team to get rid of a veteran quarterback when Tyrod Taylor and E.J. Manuel are both fairly inexperienced and could potentially hit some rough patches if either player starts for a period of time. Then again, Rex Ryan did stand by Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez all those years, so maybe he just doesn’t care.

  • Despite the above Twitter factoid, Pierre Garçon believes that Kirk Cousins is “a natural-born leader”. Not that lack of winning disqualifies someone from being a leader, as I’m pretty sure someone said the same thing about General George Armstrong Custer too, but let’s just say that I’ll disagree with his statement, but also believe that Garçon will benefit fantasy-wise. Because I like cake enough to eat it too. Cousins is truly the leader that Washington needs, not what it deserves. Something like that.
  • The Texans have traded Khari Lee (TE) to the Bears for a 6th-round pick. While this isn’t exactly a blockbuster move, I think Lee is a name to pay attention too. He’s looked really good this preseason as an undrafted rookie, and was only traded because of the glut of players that were ahead of him in Texas. The guy can catch and block pretty well, and if he learns anything at all from Martellus Bennett, look out.
