NFL 2022 Week 16 Offensive Line v Defensive Line

Good Holiday Weekend. May it be peaceful and productive for you. To kind of help with the second part is the weekly (late) offensive v defensive line article.

This is to help you determine if your quarterback or running back has an advantage. The offensive line stats have little movement at the top, but they play against defensive lines with various strengths and weaknesses.

Offensive Line Rankings Week 16

  1. Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys

There is no change along the Eagles’ offensive line. They are a well-oiled machine that allowed only five pressures last week.

Right Tackle Lane Johnson has not allowed a sack since November 2020.

Gardner Minshew will be under center.

The Cowboys have the league’s fourth-best pass rush (-14.8% DVOA Pass)

  1. Baltimore Ravens v Atlanta Falcons

The Ravens’ offensive line is up two spots this week. They have allowed only 96 pressures. Last week no one allowed more than three pressures against Myles Garrett.

Tyler Huntley will be under center for the Ravens.

The Falcons generate pressure only 23.3% of the time. They are 29th in pass DVOA (21.5%) and 26th in rush DVOA (2.6%).

  1. Kansas City Chiefs v Seattle Seahawks

Center Creed Humphrey has not given up a sack.

The Seahawks allowed 5.5 yards per attempt on the ground in their past four games. The Seahawks are 28th DVOA against the rush (4.1%).

  1. Green Bay Packers @ Miami Dolphins

The Packers’ offensive line is down two spots this week.

The Packers’ offensive line is one of six that has surrendered fewer than 100 total pressures this season (99).

Dolphins DVOA 12.6% pass (26th) and -12.3%  rush (11th)

  1. Atlanta Falcons @ Baltimore Ravens

The Falcons are the most run-heavy team calling for a run on 51.2% of their offensive snaps.

The Ravens’ run defense allows only 3.8 yards per carry, ranked third.

Desmond Ridder is under center.

Last week with Ridder under center, the Falcons attempted 26 passes and 39 rushing attempts. Tyler Allgeier has 17 rushing attempts, and Cordarrelle Patterson has 14 rushing attempts.

  1. New England Patriots v Cincinnati Bengals

Last week no one on the line allowed more than two pressures versus Las Vegas Raiders’ Maxx Crosby.

Bengals’ defensive DVOA is 11th pass and 16th rush

  1. San Francisco 49ers v Washington

The 49ers’ offensive line ranks fifth in PFF pass-blocking grade as a unit this season and has allowed only 99 pressures DVOA 31.4% pass.

Washington’s Montez Sweat has 54 pressures and ranks fifth. Chase Young is expected back this game.

  1. Cleveland Browns v New Orleans Saints

The offensive line is sixth in run blocking, BUT they only generate 1.2 yards per carry before contact (22nd).

The Saints’ DVOA rush -0.7% (23rd). Marcus Davenports lead the team in pressures with just 31.

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Arizona Cardinals

The Buccaneers’ offensive line is up three spots this week.

The Buccaneers are tied with the Philadelphia Eagles for the best PFFF pass-blocking efficiency mark in the league.

Cardinals’ defensive DVOA pass 20th (10.0%), rush 29th (4.4%)

  1. Detroit Lions @ Carolina Panthers

The Lions rank third in PFF run-blocking grade.

Carolina has six players with over 20 pressures but no player with a PFF pass-rushing grade higher than 75.

  • Chicago Bears v Buffalo Bills

The Bears run the ball on 50.1% of their offensive plays.

Bills defensive DVOA -18.1% rush (third); -8.0% pass (seventh)

  • Las Vegas Raiders @ Pittsburgh Steelers

The Raiders’ offensive line started ranked 30th in PFF pass-blocking grade. They now rank seventh.

Derek Carr’s stats in cold weather are not good. He has played six games with temperatures below 37 degrees, one touchdown in each, and only two games with over 222 passing yards.

Since returning from injury, TJ Watt has only one pass-rushing grade above 80.

  • Dallas Cowboys v Philadelphia Eagles

In his first game back and his first game at Right Tackle since 2011, Tyron Smith allowed only three pressures.

Seven different Eagles have double-digit pressures this season. The front seven have four players with a PFF pass-rushing grade of 80.2.

  • Minnesota Vikings v New York Giants

The Vikings’ offensive line ranks second in run-blocking grade.

Giants’ defensive DVOA is 12.5% Pass (24th), 10.1% Rush (31st)

  • Carolina Panthers v Detroit Lions

Left Tackle rookie Ikem Ekwonu has allowed 22 pressures, the most on the team.

Last week three starters earned a sub-60.0 PFF pass-blocking grade.

Lions defensive DVOA 22nd pass (11.0%), 19th rush (-3.3%)

  • Denver Broncos @ Los Angeles Rams

The Broncos line ranks 15th in the PFF pass-blocking grade and 19th in the PFF run-blocking grade.

Aaron Donald is scheduled to be back this week.

  • Pittsburgh Steelers v Las Vegas Raiders

The Steelers’ offensive line ranks eighth in pass-blocking efficiency and 23rd in run-blocking efficiency.

Najee Harris last week had 24 carries, 86 yards one touchdown. For the season, he is averaging 3.7 yards per attempt.

Kenny Pickett is back under center.

Las Vegas Raiders’ defense allowed an average of 117.4 rushing yards per game, and in the last three weeks, 116.3 rushing yards per game.

Raiders’ Maxx Crosby has 62 total pressures and 52 defensive stops on the season. He lines up almost exclusively across from the right tackle.

  • Miami Dolphins v Green Bay Packers

The Dolphins need Left Tackle Terron Armstead to be playing, preferably healthy. In seven games, he has either allowed one pressure or no pressure.

  • Washington @ San Francisco 49ers

Last week every member of the offensive line surrendered pressure, but no one gave up more than two pressures.

  • Seattle Seahawks @ Kansas City Chiefs

The Seahawks’ offensive line has dropped six spots this week.

The offensive line has ranked 30th in PFF grade in the past four weeks.

Last three games, Geno Smith has attempted 39, 36, and 44 pass attempts. His completion percentage has been 71.8%, 58.3%, and 70.5%.

Kansas City has allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 66.34% of their passes (24th, on an average of 36.1 passing attempts.

  • Indianapolis Colts v Los Angeles Chargers

Left Guard Quenton Nelson has given up more sacks this season than in his past three years combined (and he is the only Colts player to make the Pro Bowl_

Nick Foles will be under center.

The Chargers are allowing 5.3 yards per carry.

Zack Moss last week had 24 rushing attempts, 81 yards, averaging 3.4 yards per carry.

Deon Jackson had 13 rushing attempts last week, 55 yards, averaging 4.2 yards per carry. Both had one target.

  • Jacksonville Jaguars @ and New York Jets-played
  • Arizona Cardinals v Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Only Jacksonville and Buffalo have a worse PFF run-blocking grade than the Cardinals.

James Conner is averaging 4.1 rushing yards per attempt.

Buccaneers’ Joe Tryon-Shoyinka has three consecutive games with a pass-rushing grade of at least 70.7.

  • Cincinnati Bengals @ New England Patriots

The offensive line is down five spots from last week.

Every member of the offensive line finished with a below-average run-blocking grade last week.

Joe Mixon is averaging 3.95 yards per attempt.

In the last three weeks, the Bengals averaged 34.3 passes per game and 27 rushing attempts per game.

The Patriots rank third in pressure rate, 38.9%. The trio of Matthew Judon, Deatrich Wise Jr., and Josh Uche have collected 145 total pressures.

  • New Orleans Saints @ Cleveland Browns

The Saints’ offensive line has given up 107 pressures. They rank 10th in PFF pass-blocking efficiency.

Browns’ Myles Garrett has the best PFF grade (93) of any edge rusher this season.

  • Houston Texans @ Tennessee Titans

Houston has the worst yards before contact per rush. They are averaging 0.8.

Royce Freeman led the running attack last week with 51 yards on 11 carries.

  • Los Angeles Chargers @ Indianapolis Colts

The Chargers are PFF’s 29th-ranked run-blocking unit. They average 0.9 yards before contact per carry.

The Colts are below average in pass rushing. They generate pressure on 29.3% of their snaps.

Chargers’ quarterback Justin Herbert is second in pass attempts (603), ninth in deep ball attempts (52), and third in red zone attempts (89).

  • Buffalo Bills @ Chicago Bears

The Bills’ offensive line has fallen 11 spots in the past five weeks.

The Bears generate pressure on only 19.1% of the opponents passing snaps—the lowest rate in the league.

  • Los Angeles Rams v Denver Broncos

Baker Mayfield is under center.

The Broncos rank seventh in the league in pressure rate (36.3%).

  • New York Jets v Jacksonville Jaguars—played
  • New York Giants @ Minnesota Vikings

Right Tackle Evan Neal allowed five pressures and had two penalties last week.

Left Tackle Andrew Thomas allowed just one pressure. He has given up 17 total pressures all season.

Vikings’ Za’Darius Smith leads the league in pressures (72).

  • Tennessee Titans v Houston Texans

The offensive line has the worst PFF pass-blocking grade in the league. Three members of the line allowed a sack last week.

Malik Willis will be under center.

Texans’ Ogbonnia Okoronkwo has had 11 pressures in the past three weeks.
