Quarterbacks

  • Player: Andy Dalton
  • Game: at Las Vegas

The fantasy community got its first QB to post 300 passing yards and three TDs with the Red Rifle. This is what we were hoping with Dave Canales calling the shots in Carolina. What’s impressive is that this was the Raiders home opener and their defense is above average. We’ll see if the Dalton and Panthers can replicate their success at home against the Bengals who are allowing the sixth-fewest points to QBs.

  • Player: Caleb Williams
  • Game: at Indianapolis

The 2024 first-overall pick completed 33/52 for 363 yards, including his first passing TDs and two interceptions.  Williams’ 52 attempts are the second-most by a QB this season and his 355 yards were the most passing yards in Week 3. This is encouraging for his shareholders that the Bears’ staff is comfortable with him airing it out. Once Keenan Allen is back, Williams should be more efficient. Williams has a a great matchup in Week 4 facing the Rams’ defense that allows the second-most points to QBs.

Notables:

Sam Darnold is the first QB to throw four TDs in a game this season. As Stiles would say, it’s Sammy D. SZN!

Jalen Hurts had his first 300-yard passing game of the season with 311 yards, one pick, and 25 rushing yards. Hurts gets a plus-matchup against the Bucs in Week 4 who allow the fifth-most points to QBs but will be without his top two WRs.

Dak Prescott completed 28 of 51 for 379 passing yards with two TDs. Dallas is going to have to rely on Dak’s arm to the chagrin of his shareholders. Prescott has a QB-neutral matchup against the Giants.

Four QBs threw over 300 yards and three had at least three TDs.

Running Backs

  • Player: Aaron Jones
  • Game: vs. Texans

This was vintage Green Bay Jones, rushing 19 times for 105 yards with five grabs for 46 yards and a receiving TD. This was supposed to be a tough matchup as the Texans allowed the fourth-fewest points to RBs entering this game. Jones will get a revenge game at Lambeau against a Packers defense that is allowing the 12th-most points to RBs.

  • Player: Kyren Williams
  • Game: vs. 49ers

The concerns about Williams’ workload should diminished at this point. Williams carried the ball 24 times for 89 yards with two rushing scores and two receptions for 27 yards with one receiving score. The Rams RB was the only RB with a rushing and receiving score in Week 3. Williams will face the Bears defense in Week 4 which allowed Jonathan Taylor to rush for 110 yards and two scores.

Notables:

Saquon Barkley was RB1 for Week 3 rushing 17 times for 147 yards with two TDs, while bringing in four balls for nine yards. Expect a heavier workload in Week 4 against Tampa Bay’s seventh-friendliest defense to RBs.

Derrick Henry made the most of his opportunities against the worst rushing defense posting 25 carries for a Week 3-high 151 yards with two rushing scores and 23 receiving yards on one catch. His next opponent is Buffalo who have allowed only one rushing TD to RBs through two games.

In case you were wondering, Devin Singletary is the next RB against the Cowboys.

13 RBs tallied at least 20 touches in Week 3.

Six RBs rushed over 100 yards and 11 backs totaled over 100 scrimmage yards in Week 3.

Four RBs secured at least five receptions and six RBs hauled in a receiving TD.

Wide Receivers

  • Player: Jauan Jennings
  • Game: at Los Angeles Rams

Were we watching Jerry Rice on Sunday? I know we were all expecting the line of 11 receptions for 175 yards and three touchdowns on 12 targets for Brandon Aiyuk. However, it was Jennings who tallied the most receiving yards and touchdowns by a WR this season.  Pretty sure this is a mirage but he’ll be the top waiver add heading into Week 4. The Niners will host the Patriots who have allowed the second-most receptions to WRs. The Rams secondary will try to regroup before facing the Bears WR duo of D.J Moore and Rome Odunze.

  • Player: Rashee Rice
  • Game: at Atlanta

The KC offense goes through Rice until further notice. He secured 12 passes for 110 yards and one score on 14 targets. There appears to be no real competition for targets from Patrick Mahomes as the next pass catcher, Travis Kelce, drew five targets. In a Pacheco-less offense, Rice will look to dominate touches against the Los Angeles Chargers that allow the seventh-fewest points to WRs.

Notables:

Diontae Johnson showed signs of life finishing with eight receptions for a career-high 122 yards and TD.  Nearing a return to my circle of trust, he will go up against a tough Bengals secondary, who are top-five against WRs.

Amari Cooper returned to relevance with seven grabs for 86 yards and two TDs on 12 targets. He gets Vegas next and will look to replicate what the Panthers’ passing game accomplished in Week 3.

Justin Jefferson caught his third consecutive receiving TD and 81 yards on six catches. He has four TDs in seven games against the Packers, his Week 4 opponent.

The Saints fell back to earth, but we had a Chris Olave sighting of six catches for 86 yards and a TD. He has a favorable matchup against their division-rival Falcons.

Malik Nabers and Amon-Ra St. Brown are the only healthy WRs averaging 10+ targets per game.

Five WRs caught over 100 yards, three compiled double-digit receptions and 13 drew at least 10 targets in Week 3.

Tight End

  • Player: Dallas Goedert
  • Game: at New Orleans

Suddenly becoming the focal point of the Philadelphia air attack due to the scary injury to Devonta Smith, Goedert hauled in 10 passes for 170 yards on 11 targets against the Saints. His 170 yards were the most by a TE this season but just the second-highest receiving yards in Week 3. Tampa Bay is his next opponent who has allowed a total of 60 yards to TEs through three games.

The Saints will to travel Atlanta and will face another tough passing-catching TE in Kyle Pitts.

Notables:

Cole Kmet broke out for 10 receptions for 97 yards and one TD on 11 targets. Keep in mind Williams threw 55 times and was without Allen. Kmet will be on the streamer radar regardless in Week 4 as the Rams allow the third-most fantasy points to TEs.

Sam LaPorta and Trey McBride sustain injuries in the same game, so be sure to have a backup plan in the wasteland of TEs.
