Quarterbacks
- Player: Joe Burrow
- Game: vs. Ravens
- Stats: 30/39, 392 passing yards, 5 TDs, 1 Int
Burrow and the Cincinnati offense were clicking on all cylinders against the Ravens who just limited Josh Allen to under 200 passing yards and no scores in Week 5. With their season on the line next week in New York, the Bengals will have to rely on Burrow. However, the Giants are middle of the pack statistically against QBs in fantasy, so I wouldn’t expect this sort of performance again. New York have yet to allow a 300 yard passer or three passing TDs by a QB.
- Player: Trevor Lawrence
- Game: vs. Colts
- Stats: 28/34, 371 passing yards, 2 TDs,1 Int
In a get-right game at home against the Colts, who allow the fourth most points to QBs, Lawrence delivered his best performance of the season. This was the performance you were looking for based on the matchup and made a great DFS play. If his play continues, he could support two WRs weekly. As excited as I am for the Jaguars’ offensive resurgence over the last two games, they have a tall task against the Bears, who allow the FEWEST points to QBs, in London. Chicago shut down the Panthers to 10 points, who scored a combined 60 in their last two games with Andy Dalton under center.
Notables:
The Bengals have now allowed QBs to throw two TDs in four consecutive weeks after Lamar Jackson showcased his arm talent with four passing TDs on Sunday. Will Daniel Jones push the streak to five games against the Bengals next week? I think so if Malik Nabers can clear the concussion protocol.
We’re going to get an early Halloween treat next week as Jackson will go toe-to-toe with Jayden Daniels and the Commanders, who have allowed the most passing TDs (11) to QBs this season. Expect fireworks.
Josh Allen’s struggles continued for a consecutive week against the Texans, which was surprising to me. Houston allowed the seventh-most points to QBs entering Week 5 but Allen completed 9 passes the entire game. Allens’ woes should continue as the Bills’ three-game road trip ends against the Jets, who are giving up the second-least points to QBs. I may consider a spot-start streamer at a QB.
The living legend, Joe Flacco, was one of four QBs to throw for 300+ yards and 3 TDs. Flacco produced against Jacksonville who allows the most points to QBs. Caleb Williams enters serious streamer consideration as he gets a great opportunity against the Jags in London.
Running Backs
- Player: Tank Bigsby
- Game: vs. LA Rams
- Stats: 13 carries, 101 rushing yards, 2 TDs; 1 reception, 28 receiving yards
I think we have a full-blown RB committee to the dismay of Travis Etienne Jr. shareholders. Bigsby looks like a different back from a season ago and ran with authority against the Colts. As for the matchup, Indy kept Najee Harris and D’Andre Swift in check, so this speaks to how good Bigsby can be if he gets steady volume with a positive game script. If he’s on your waivers, I suggest picking him ASAP. Pederson has a history of feeding his hot back and gets a plus matchup against the Bears who give up the 10th-most points to RBs, including 6 RB TDs.
- Player: Tyrone Tracy Jr.
- Game: at Arizona
- Stats: 18 carries, 129 rushing yards,
The surprise player of Week 5. Tracy Jr. appears very capable of filling in as an RB1 for the Giants’ offense should Singletary miss more time. What impressed me is how explosive he looked against the Seahawks’ front knowing the Giants’ top pass catcher Nabers was out. As good as he looked, I think the Seahawks’ defense might be overrated when you consider they played the Broncos, Patriots, and the Tua-less Dolphins to start the season. Seattle is allowing 123.5 rushing yards and three rushing TDs to opposing RBs over their last two games. Jordan Mason gets a phenomenal matchup next week and could be the RB1 for Week 6.
Notables:
Going up against the Panther can make all bad things go away. Look no further than D’Andre Swift who finished the week as RB2 this week thanks to Carolina allowing the most points to RBs this season. Swift should make it three weeks in the top 10 as the Jags allow the seventh-most points to RBs. Bijan Robinson gets to eat next week as the Panthers host the Falcons in Week 6.
Seven TDs in five games for Derrick Henry. Sky called it when he said Henry would get 20 TDs this season. Henry’s streak may end as the Commanders have allowed three RB TDs through five games this season.
The Dolphins entered this week giving up a league-high seven rushing RB TDs and eight total RB TDs. After all the talk of being benched, we should have known better than to be weary of Rhamondre Stevenson, who scored his third TD on 16 touches. NE faces the Texans next week who allow 108 rushing yards per game and two rushing scores over their last three games to opposing RBs.
James Cook is the engine for the Bills’ offense after a season-high 23 touches while crossing the goal line for the fifth time this season. His buy-low window period is probably gone, so I hope you bought while you could. The Jets aren’t an ideal matchup on MNF as they have limited RBs to 78 yards and 0 RB TDs in the last three games.
Rico Dowdle just may be the guy in the Dallas. Facing the Steelers top rate defenses against RBs, he posted a RB3 finish. It might be hard to trust him next week facing the Lions who are coming off a bye week and give up the eight-fewest points to RBs.
Don’t stress about Breece Hall quite yet. He was involved in a negative game script where Aaron Rodgers attempted 54 passes. The Vikings have allowed one RB have a top 20 finish. He should rebound against Buffalo who allowed Henry to rush all over them in Week 4.
Wide Receivers
- Player: Garrett Wilson
- Game: vs. Vikings in London
- Stats: 13 receptions, 101 receiving yards, 1 TD, 22 targets
He could have ended up with one more TD of 30+ yards but Rodgers missed him. This game could get Wilson out of his early-season funk moving forward with Rodgers. I would note that Minnesota allowed the fourth-most points to WRs entering Week 5, so it’s good to see him exploit a defense like this. He gets the Bills’ 31st-ranked defense to WRs in Week 6, but they allowed Nico Collins to secure 2 passes for 78 yards and one TD before leaving with an injury. Things do not get easier for the Vikings but they have two weeks to prepare for the Lions WR core in Week 7.
- Player: D.J. Moore
- Game: vs. Carolina
- Stats: 5 receptions, 105 receiving yards, 2 TDs, 8 targets
Moore had his best performance of the season with Caleb Williams in a revenge game against the Panthers. He is generating a healthy 8.4 targets per game, which ranks top 10 in WRs who have played in every game this season. The Bears will fortunately face the Jaguars in Week 6 who are allowing WRs to be targeted at the sixth-highest rate, the fourth-most receiving yards, and fourth-most fantasy points. Jacksonville just allowed Colts WRs to tally 21 receptions for 248 receiving yards and two TDs. Get the Bears WRs in your lineup! As for Carolina, they will see the Falcons’ passing attack that is coming off a big TNF performance.
Notables:
The Bengals duo of JaMarr Chase and Tee Higgins went nuclear against the Ravens, who surprisingly allow the ninth-most points to WRs this season. The Cincinnati WRs will have a much tougher test against the Giants in MetLife Stadium, who limited the Seahawks WRs to 12 receptions for 161 yards and one TD.
Zay Flowers rebounded nicely after two poor performances in a positive game script, posting his first 100-yard receiving game of the season. He’ll look to make two in a row against the Commanders’ secondary which allows the MOST points to WRs.
Jayden Reed has to be entering the WR1 conversation as the defacto number one option for Jordan Love. His upcoming schedule is ideal and should easily put up WR1 numbers. I would try to trade for him before the breakout.
Nico Collins left his game with a hamstring injury, which limited the Texans passing attack. I am not sure who steps up for C.J. Stroud as the go-to WR but I assume Stefon Diggs takes over.
Tight End
- Player: Brock Bowers
- Game: at Denver
- Stats: 8 receptions, 97 receiving yards, 1 TD, 12 targets
There is hope for TEs. Bowers is slowly emerging as one of the premiere TEs in a short period of time. The Broncos are in the bottom half of defenses in allowing points to TEs and Bowers had his best performance of his young career. After the Steelers next week, his next two opponents rank in the top five in points to TEs.
Notables:
Tucker Kraft’ status of a streamer might be evolving into a weekly starter with Love looking his way 14 times over the last two games. He gets the Cardinals next week who were torched by George Kittle who finished as TE3 this week.
Kittle gets a favorable matchups is his next two games against Seattle and Kansas City who are very suspectable to getting beat by TEs.
Mark Andrews finally made an impact on the box score but his TE counterparts accounted for 3 TDs and seven targets. It’s getting hard to trust him moving forward.
Trey McBride returned to action drawing nine targets but did drop a TD. The good times should keep rolling as he faces the Packers and Chargers who are in the top 10 in allowing points to TEs.
