Quarterbacks

  • Player: Bo Nix
  • Game: vs. Panthers
  • Stats: 28/37, 284 passing yards, 3 TDs, 1 rushing TD

What an impressive stretch for this rookie QB. He’s getting it down in real life and fantasy in the air and with his legs. He’s currently tied with Jayden Daniels with four rushing scores this season. In a matchup facing the Panthers who give up the fourth-most points to QBs, he passed the trap game with his best statistical game of the season. Things theoretically get easier with the Ravens who give up the third-most to QBs. I recommended him this week and will do so again.

  • Player: Jameis Winston
  • Game: vs. Ravens
  • Stats: 27/41, 334 passing yards, 3 TDs

What’s impressive is that former starter, DeShaun Watson never completed over 25 passes, threw for at least 200 yards, or three TDs in seven games as the Browns QB. Winston did so in his first start but had a favorable matchup against the Ravens who allowed the third-most points to QBs. Joe Burrow will get a rematch against Baltimore when they combined to score 79 points in Week 5. Wintson will have a much tougher challenge against the Chargers who allow the ninth-fewest points to QBs.

Notables:

Jalen Hurts three rushing TDs were the most by a QB this season. Four teams have allowed three or more rushing TDs to QBs. The Bengals enter the game allowing the most yards to QBs but only one rushing TD. Cincinnati will have their hands full for Lamar Jackson coming off a

Kirk Cousins has thrown 8 TDs against Tampa Bay this season as the Bucs have allowed 15 passing TDs this season, ranking third friendliest to QBs. Patrick Mahomes should have one of his best games of the season next week, so be sure to get his passing arsenal in your lineups.

Jordan Love left the game with a lower leg injury but left fantasy points on the field before exiting against the friendliest defense to QBs in Jacksonville. If Love misses time again, the Packers’ WRs stock goes down. Hurts shareholders should enjoy a big week next week facing the Jags.

The Eagles defense has limited opposing QBs to just two TDs over their last four games. Joe Burrow tossed a single TD pass en route to his second-worst game of the season. He should bounce back with favorable matchups against Vegas and Baltimore. As for Philly, they host the Jaguars, which may be worrisome for Trevor Lawrence.

Running Backs

  • Player: De’Vone Achane
  • Game: vs. Cardinals
  • Stats: 10 carries, 97 rushing yards, 6 receptions, 50 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD

The Cardinals allowed the 12th-most points to RBs and allowed three TDs to Dolphins backs. Miami’s offense is more dynamic with Tua Tagovailoa back in the picture, so it’s time to trust this backfield again. The Fins face the Buffalo’s sixth-friendliest defense to RBs next week, but limited Kenneth Walker III to a scoreless 47 yards.

  • Player: D’Andre Swift
  • Game: at Washington
  • Stats: 18 carries, 129 yards, 1 rushing TD

I think Swift has surprised the fantasy community with his play of late as it looked like he was going to be a part of a committee. In a tough matchup against a 10-top defense against RBs over their last four games, he tallied another RB1 performance. He looks to be in peak form and has a chance to score his fifth consecutive TD against the Cards in Week 9, who allowed three RB TDs.

Notables:

After a few clunkers, Bijan Robinson has come alive with three consecutive games of at least 19 touches with 100+ all-purpose yards and a TD in each game. His next two games have week-winning potential against Dallas and New Orleans.

Josh Jacobs got the volume we were expecting when he signed in Green Bay and dominated Jacksonville as the RB2 this week. Saquon Barkley owners should rejoice knowing his upcoming matchup with the Jags. Things should be difficult for Jacobs as he faces the Lions’ defense that allows the third-fewest points to RBs. However, despite Detroit’s blowout to the Titans, Tony Pollard topped 100 all-purpose yards.

The Lions’ backfield had their way against the Titans. Sonic and Knuckles should lineup locks for the rest of the season. Rhamondre Stevenson will look to keep his momentum (2 rushing TDs) against Tennessee in Week 9.

Facing the fifth-stingiest defense to RBs, Jonathan Taylor was very productive with 100 yards and a score. The Texans have allowed RBs to go over 100 rushing yards only twice this season. Breece Hall is a must-start next week against Houston but temper your expectations.

The Tampa Bay RBs should be able to co-exist as viable RB3/Flex options due to the lack of passing-catching options as each back saw double-digit touches. They have a less-than-ideal matchup against the Chiefs who allow the fewest points and fourth fewest receptions to RBs.

Wide Receivers

  • Player: Calvin Ridley
  • Game: at Detroit
  • Stats: 10 receptions, 143 receiving yards, 15 targets

Over his last three games, Ridley has combined for a mere 47 receiving yards. Now with DeAndre Hopkins shipped to Kansas City, Ridley drew his most targets this season and should entertain double-digit targets within this offense.  Interestingly, the Lions allow the fourth-most points to WRs, so his performance shouldn’t be as shocking as it seems. Green Bay’s WR core gets a chance at the Lions next, but if Love were to miss, you want to look elsewhere despite the great matchup.

  • Player: Ladd McConkey
  • Game: vs. Saints
  • Stats: 6 receptions, 111 receiving yards, 2 TDs, 6 targets

This Bulldog has been steady but not overly spectacular until today for fantasy. The Saints have allowed the 11th-most points to WRs over the last four weeks, so this was a good effort by Justin Herbert to get his rookie involved in a plus matchup. The wee-Ladd will look to keep it going against Cleveland who allowed Zay Flowers to go over 100 yards and are allowing the ninth-most points to WRs over their last four games.

Notables:

I was wrong about Cedric Tillman as an appealing WR option, but it appears he’s the WR1 for Winston. That’s enough for me to be excited about. He has a less-than-ideal matchup against the Chargers who have allowed the ninth-fewest points to WRs, but did allow Chris Olave to hit the century mark in receiving on eight catches.

The acquisition of Davante Adams has benefited Garrett Wilson as he has more targets, catches, and receiving yards between the two. The Jets duo get a great matchup on a short week versus the Texans. Over Houston’s last four games, they’ve allowed the sixth-most points to WRs and I expect this game to be high-scoring.

The Broncos offense is suddenly fantasy-relevant. Courtland Sutton posted season-highs against the Panthers and gets the best possible matchup against the Ravens who allow the most points to WRs. Olave gets an opportunity for consecutive games over 100 yards in facing Carolina next week.

The Bills WR group is starting to remind me of the Packers. I am not sure if they have a true number one even with Amari Cooper. Keon Coleman and Khalil Shakir outproduced Cooper in Seatle in Week 8. Oddly, they face the Dolphins in Week 9 who are giving up the fewest points to WRs but these numbers are skewed due to their anemic offense. With the return of Tua, the Dolphins allowed Marvin Harrison Jr. to have the second-best game of his short career. Which Bills WR do you trust?

Tight Ends

  • Player: Cade Otton
  • Game: vs. Falcons
  • Stats: 9 receptions, 81 receiving yards, 2 TD, 10 targets

He looks like the number-one passing option for Baker Mayfield. He’s now drawn 10 targets in back-to-back games, clearing 100 yards or scoring TDs. Otton has a legitimate chance to repeat next week against Kansas City who allow the second most points to TEs. I expect his ownership numbers to rise over 80%.

Notables:

George Kittle was a monster against Dallas. Brock Purdy will need him with the loss of Brandon Aiyuk. Coming off his bye week, his next three opponents allow TEs to score at a top-10 rate. I suggest trading for him!

Kyle Pitts has four games with at least 65 yards and tallied two TEs on Sunday. Over this stretch, he’s faced four teams that rank in the top 10 of friendliest defense to TEs. His next three matchups are against neutral defenses.

After a sluggish start, Travis Kelce has resurfaced as a must-start. He’s drawn the third most targets and has the second most receptions by a TE over the last four weeks. He faces the Falcons who let Otton have his best game of the season.

All three starting WRs for the Jaguars were out on the last drive against the Packers. If they miss next week, Evan Engram will be the focal point of the offense but will face the hardest team against TEs on the road in Philadelphia.

Trey McBride had a bad matchup on paper against Miami who allows the second-fewest points to TEs. He posted his first game over 100 yards but is searching for his first TE. His Week 9 matchup is against the Bears who haven’t allowed a TD to a TE since Week 1.
