Generally, the sequel is not as good as the original, but Week 2 lived up to the hype and then some. Two weeks of football isn’t a large enough sample size but there are some trends we can’t ignore. Let’s dive into my Week 2 takeaways.

Quarterback

  • Player: Kyler Murray
  • Game: vs. LA Rams

The Cards are going to be fun to watch all season long. Wish I had more shares of Murray, who finished as QB1 this week. K1 threw for 266 yards, and three passing scores while adding 59 rushing yards. He is the only QB to rush over 50 yards in consecutive weeks. Murray should have an opportunity to rush for 50 yards after the Lions allowed Baker Mayfield to lead the Bucs with 34 rushing yards and score. They also allowed Matthew Stafford to throw over 300 yards in Week 1.

Notables:

Three QBs threw over 300 yards. Murray was the only QB to throw three TDs.

Derek Carr and Mayfield are the top two QBs through Week 2.

Running Backs

  • Player: Jonathan Taylor
  • Game: at Green Bay

The Colts’ workhorse played well with limited opportunities in Week 2 due to the game script against the Packers, rushing 12 times for 103 yards, and adding two grabs for 32 yards. Taylor is averaging 15 touches per game, which falls outside the top 20 RBs. We want to see his touches increase next week against Chicago, who are allowing over 100 all-purpose yards to RBs.

Green Bay has allowed an RB to rush over 100 yards in back-to-back weeks.  They will face Tony Pollard and the Titans in Week 3. Pollard is the clear RB1 in Tennessee averaging 20.5 touches and 98 scrimmage yards in two games. Pollard will be a solid RB2 with a chance at RB1 numbers against the Packers.

  • Player: Derrick Henry
  • Game: vs. Raiders

King Henry looked much better in Week 2, finishing with 18 carries for 84 yards, one rushing score, and one reception for 12 yards. I am not an OC, but they need to get Henry the ball more. They’ll have an opportunity next week in Dallas after Alvin Kamara went nuclear against the Cowboys, finishing as the RB1 in Week 2. Kamara saw 20 carries for 115 yards with three rushing TDs and two receptions for 65 yards with one receiving score. Dallas is allowing the most fantasy points to RBs.

The Raiders have allowed RB finishes of RB4 to J.K. Dobbins and Henry as RB8. They will host the Carolina Panthers in Week 3. Chubba Hubbard bounced back in Week 2 with carries for 64 yards and four receptions for 12 yards in Week 2 against the Chargers. Hubbard makes for an interesting flex play next week.

Notables:

Josh Jacobs had the most rushing attempts with 32 carries and the most rushing yards with 151 in Week 2. Expect heavy usage without Jordan Love on the road in Tennesse who allowed 114 total scrimmage yards with seven receptions and one TD to Breece Hall.

J.K. Dobbins and Jordan Mason are the only RBs to rush over 100 yards each week. Mason has the best odds of making it three in a row against the Rams. Rams have allowed 100 yards to RBs each week.

James Cook, Braelon Allen, and Kamara were the only RBs to have a rushing and receiving TD in Week 2.

Seven RBs rushed over 100 yards and 11 backs totaled over 100 scrimmage yards in Week 2.

Eight RBs secured at least five receptions.

Wide Receivers

  • Player: Malik Nabers
  • Game: at Washington

The rookie WR showed he’s capable of being WR1 in the league, securing 10 passes for 127 yards with one score on 18 targets. Nabers was WR3 in Week 2 but may have a tough chance to repeat going up against the Browns and DB Denzel Ward. Ward has been productive in limiting opposing teams’ WR1s to pedestrian games.

The Commanders’ secondary is who you want your starting WRs to go against. They’ve allowed 3 WRs to finish in the top 11 in consecutive weeks. The Bengals WRs will have a chance to feast in Week 3.

  • Player: Davante Adams
  • Game: at Baltimore

We saw a vintage performance from Adams, who will shine regardless of his QB. He tallied nine catches for 110 yards with one TD against a struggling Baltimore secondary. Las Vegas will face the Panthers who have allowed the second most passing TDs with five. Three of five passing TDs went to WRs.

The Ravens have struggled to stop opposing teams’ top pass catchers this season. Expect CeeDee Lamb to have a huge game in Week 3 against Baltimore.

Notables:

Marvin Harrison Jr. was WR1 in Week 2 finishing with four catches for 130 yards with two TDs on eight targets. He should stay active next week against the Lions who are allowing the third-most points to WRs this season.

DK Metcalf (10 rec. for 129 yards and 1 TD) and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (12 rec. for 117 yards) are the first teammates this season to each post double-digit catches, over 100 receiving yards, and draw double-digit targets in the same game. The duo faces a tougher Miami defense that is allowing 13.6 points to WRs through two games.

Amon-Ra St Brown saw a Week 2-high 19 targets but appeared to injure his lower leg. If he cannot play, Jameson Williams, who is averaging 10- targets per contest, looks to be great play against the Cardinals secondary, who are allowing the 11th-most points to WRs.

Nine WRs caught over 100 yards and eight WRs drew at least 10 targets in Week 2.

Tight End

  • Player: Mike Gesicki
  • Game: at Kansas City

The Bengals were again without Tee Higgins in this bout. Gesicki stepped up catching seven passes for 91 yards on nine targets. He only caught three passes last week for Cincinnati. The trend is that Kansas City appears to be vulnerable to TEs throughout two games this season allowing the most points to TEs. Kyle Pitts should be heavily involved for the Falcons in Week 3.

Notables:

Brock Bowers is that GUY. He’s the only TE to finish as a top 5 TE for consecutive weeks. He faces the Panthers in Week 3 who allow the second-most points to TEs.

George Kittle was TE1 posting seven catches for 76 yards with one TD on 8 targets. San Franciso faces the Rams in Week 3, who allowed Trey McBride to deliver six catches for 67 yards on six targets. Kittle will remain firmly in the TE1 discussion.
