It’s just the place where you stop the story…
Unless you’re Gus Bradley that is. With Jacksonville’s long nightmare coming to an end (with a potentially new nightmare on the horizon, because, well, it’s Jacksonville, and Jeff Fisher is still out there), it seems proper to announce that this is our official end to the 2016 Razzball Football season, content-wise. As I’m sure all of you know, we run a smaller ship than the other sites in the Razzball Network, but to combat that, we use 100% more nautical terms. I realize that the actual NFL Season hasn’t ended yet, but with two weeks left to go, your Fantasy Season should be coming to a close. (YMMV.) We’ll still release rankings the next two weeks and during the playoffs, and we’ll have a few more podcasts this year, and I’ll still be here answering all of your questions… (I’ll always be here, maaaan), but as the readership dwindles and Christmas approaches, I just wanted to take the time to again thank my contributors and you, the Razzball community for making this season another great one.
I’d have to say, it’s been a tough year, for a lot of reasons and for a lot of things, Fantasy Football included. (Thanks Obama! Osweiler!) Even Football itself has had a rough year! (Thanks Obama! NFL Rules Committee!) And while I treasure the fact that our site remains indie to the core, a happy little niche prancing along (prancing sounds festive!), I’m proud that this year, we’ve found some larger appeal from our strong finish in ranking’s accuracy (we’re near the top-10 at the moment) and Rudy’s hard work in creating projections and other site improvements, like the new player pages.
I’m looking forward to returning next year with even better results, and hopefully new ways to improve and grow our content. So thanks to everyone involved with the site. Happy Holidays, Happy New Year, and all the best wishes to you and yours!
Except you, Roger Goodell and Dean Spanos. F*ck You.
Yeah. Even if I stop playing fantasy sports some day (yeah, right) I’ll still come back here for the humor.
With L.Green on the protocol, I need a TE for the finals. Do you prefer:
Ebron @ DAL
Bennett vs. NYJ
Clay vs. MIA
Griffin vs. CIN
And for DST, do you prefer:
NYG @ PHI
WAS @ CHI
PIT vs BAL
HOU vs. CIN
BUF vs MIA
MIA @ BUF
@Not Your Average Joe:
Oh, PPR for the TEs!
@Not Your Average Joe: I’ll hold you to that! Haha.
Right now, I’m feeling Bennett, double check with me in a few days I think. And right now, probably BUF, but I could see HOU in the mix.
@Jay:
Not to be such a doubter, but in my yahoo PPR league, Bennett has cleared 5.60 points just once since Gronk went down. That included games against the Niners (2.40), Jets (5.60), and Rams (2.40) (he actually went off for 17 points against BAL). Why higher on him than, say, Ebron?
@Not Your Average Joe: Yeah, it’s a great point, the matchups are what I’m looking at. Griffin is probably close too. I’d lean him as a secondary option.
Love you Jaybones.
I’m poofing up my merkin for my eventual “I’m in the championship, help!!” question for next week, but that will come, along with the poof.
@Project Merkin: You better! Haha.
@Jay: Who is the waiver pick of the week. My team is not very good, I just have been very lucky. Here are my boys:
QB: Aaron Rodgers
WR: Antonio Brown
WR: Alshon Jeffery
RB: Jonathan Stewart
RB: Ryan Mathews
TE: Zach Ertz
Flex: Devante Adams
B: Kenneth Dixon
B: Sproles
B: Taylor Gabriel
B: Jacquizz
K: Bailey
D: Houston
@Project Merkin: What’s your waivers look like right now? Have some guys to draw from?
@Jay: I should probably wait until your rankings come out. It’s a PPR league.
I’m not too nervous about his team.
Eli Manning
Jordy Nelson
Demayius
Doug Martin
Demarco Murray
Antonio Gates
Willie Snead
@Project Merkin: Alright, sounds good. I think I’d be scared of his RB a little, but that’s about it. Could be a really close match though.
Thanks for all the advice….3.85pt lead with my opponent having the wash kicker left…here’s hoping!
@Nightpandas: I wish you luck. Hard though, I know a lot of razzballers went with Hopkins this week. I just hope their margin is 3.84.
@Nightpandas: Oh jesus, start drinking now
@Project Merkin: I mean, this is true for everything I feel.
In retrospect, I should have gone with your gut and not mine about Rawls vs. Ware this week but luckily I squeeked by with a victory on the backs of Bell and Johnson again. Goddamn those two have been fucking incredible this year. And once again I’m thankful that I didn’t buy into the whole “no-rb theory” everyone was spouting at the beginning of the season.
I’m sure I’ll have questions later in the week but for now, thanks again for another entertaining and insightful year of fantasy analysis.
@Toby: Naw Toby, you had a strong argument there. But the most important part is you made it through the gauntlet. Thanks man! And I’ll be ready whenever you are!
Which of Pierre Garcon or Greg Olsen has the better chance of scoring more points than Jamison Crowder tonight?
@malamoney: I’d say Greg Olsen, but I feel like this question has two answers that thread the needle.
Yikes,no clue how I survived but D freeman & D Johnson carried my team to a 107.5-105 victory! On to the finals! Although I’m very nervous for week 16 with terrible matchups at RB & they are my only bright spot.
With Big Ben coming home for a tough matchup against Ravens, do I roll him out for one last hooorah in the chip game or attack the waivers in shallow league for an exploitable matchup like Carr, Dak, Taylor, Stafford, Kaep, etc.
@Nick: I’m kinda liking Ben against the Ravens. I’ll probably know more tomorrow when I start rankings, but for now, I’m okay going with him. And great to hear you made it this far!
@Nick: also, Falcons at Carolina or Giant defense in Philly next week?
@Nick: Feeling the Giants at the moment. I feel like they can roll over on the Eagles here… but knowing the Giants, might be a trap. Not sure if I trust the Falcons away though.
@Jay: what about Chargers in Cleveland or Tennessee at Jax? Like either over Giants in Philly?
@Nick: Oh, Chargers over Browns for sure. Titans too. Coinflip there for me. I do like both better than the Giants there too.
@Jay – ever since I was officially eliminated from the playoffs, I have gone off on a 5 game winning streak in my work league… at least I got to play spoiler and win my consolation playoffs!
@William Hung: Haha, that’s something! Congrats!
Who to start?? Robert Kelley or Desean Jackson??? Need 18 pts
@Bob Wetlands: Going Kelley there. Good luck!
Seasons greetings Jay!
Great insight do you write on the baseball side as well or mainly football? Love this site great forum!
Any who I’m in need of a major MNF miracle/comeback , we shall see but currently down I need Cousins & Robert Kelley to combine for 70 pts , lol my face right now is Jim Carey “so you’re saying there’s a chance?!”
It’s also .5 ppr hopefully Kelley gets all the passes lol
Regardless of this outcome it’s been fun & you are still doing rankings this week right?
Thanks Oscar! Used to write for baseball, now just strictly football.
There is still a chance here, but yeah, I think that quote is apt. Keep hope alive though!
And yup, rankings will be out as usual on Thursday.
@Jay:
Thanks again! From a viewers perspective I hope tonight’s game is more of a game than that Seattle vs Carolina game a couple weeks back or even that Seahawks vs Rams uneven match last Thursday lol
@Oscar: Ugh, weekday games have been terrible this season, more than others.
12 team 2 QB half PPR dynasty
QB rodgers/rodfather/brock lobster
RB (2) ingram/mathews/mckinnon/forte/ivory
WR (3) d-jax/jordy/edelman/britt/boyd/treadwell/decker
TE (1) ertz
2 flexes
IR allen/woodhead
any drops for savage or do you think brock lobster gets this back next year?
2. 12 team standard super flex dynasty
QB goff/palmer/keenum
RB (2) hyde/gurley/coleman/dixon/booker
WR (2) dez/cooks/green/parker/boyd/marv jones
TE (1) walker/j.thomas (i’m already attempting waiver on ebron over thomas)
IR woodhead/hoyer
who’s my drop for savage here? might be smart to hold keenum, maybe not. marv jones and booker could be drops too.
3. drop booker for any of morris/drake/burkhead.
4. drop marv jones for any of lee/DGB/r.anderson? these questions for long term, i just went out in this league.
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: I think you can drop Osweiler for Savage. It’s looking like his job now. 2. I’d probably want Savage over Keenum right now, if you’re still in it. 3. I’d hold Booker for now. 4. I’d say for Anderson.
And oh, just read that you’re not. So, I still think Savage for Keenum is okay there. There’s a chance, if Savage has an above average finish, he could be the guy next season. Long shot, but worth a look in this format.
@Jay: i’m lucky to even have a chance at savage, it’s every day FAAB (i have 11 left out of 100) and i wasn’t at internet last night, figured i missed out on him. nope, still there. people getting lazy in a dynasty league ain’t good for them (is for me though).
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: Ah, yeah, I’d definitely want to take advantage of that.
@Jay: if we’re lucky we’ll be in for many “tom savaged em” puns. man i really shouldn’t have gambled on reed this week in other spots, yuck. i see him in the game, at least.
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: was looking at my many spots that i have NE D, and GOOD LORD have they had good matchups for many weeks, going backwards they have faced
@ DEN (22 points, in one league)
vs BAL (13)
vs LA (22)
@ NYJ (14, this is a low number against that team though, fitz was still playing)
@ SF (15, low again vs this team, but i guess since kaepernicking came back SF isn’t completely awesome matchup like earlier in year)
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: and now for our finals they get vs NYJ. just awesome schedule.
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: Yeah, I think the middle part of the schedule was rough for them, but their ending is amazing.
My opponent for the championship matchup week 16 dropped Gostkowski for Ty Mont. should I grab him from waivers tmr morning as my kicker v Jets dropping Hauschka? Seems obvious & opponent had Forbath to drop instead but he held him…am I missing something?
@Nick: took me a sec but looked up weather & not so good potentially. Maybe sit on Seattle kicker at home or go with Janikowski at home?
@Nick: Oh yeah, didn’t even think of that, to be honest. Sit on Hauschka if the weather outlook is bad and adjust as we get closer to the Sunday.
@Nick: Yeah, I’m fine with that. I think he just wanted Ty fast? Not sure why he didn’t just drop a positional player, seems like he’d have to do that anyways.
@Jay: really not sure what he was thinking but considering I have $24 left and he has none, I think I’ll drop T Boyd & snag Gostkowski so he can’t make that swap for Forbath.
Than going to grab SD & Tenn defense dropping Houston & Baltimore. He has Denver so he might be looking for another option but probably not but can’t hurt to block out my opponent of good options..
@Nick: Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Also, do you like Robby Anderson @ NE, Ginn v ATL or Lockett v. AZ for Week16 over Snead? I can drop M Jones Jr from my bench. Currently starting D Adams, Inman & Snead…
@Nick: Maybe Anderson, in my head I have him slightly above Snead.
Who do you like in our PPR championship?
Team one
Abrown/Odell/jordyN
Lewis/Farrow
Olsen
Dax
Ne and Hauschka
Team two
Hilton/Edelman/Crabtree
DavidJ/Shady
Winston
Eifert
KC and Gostikowski
Pretty interesting RB vs WR matchup
@The imp: Ceiling goes to team one, but slightly leaning team two. The RBs are safer and could make a huge difference depending on what Lewis and Farrow can produce.
@Jay: Your ceiling/floor analysis matches the season long history for these division champs. Team one is the league leader in points, but team two had the best record with less week to week volatility. DTrain and Shady have been the dominant duo for a month averaging over 25 pts per game with yardage bonuses, but DTrain has the worst matchup (@SEA) of all the key players. Whether or not Team 1 gets blowups from Odell (@PHI) and/0r Brown (vBAL) is probably the deciding factor. You can easily tell which team went WR/WR/WR and that both teams were the last two to draft at QB.
@the imp: Thanks for confirming that! And I do like the idea of overloading WRs in any PPR, but there is a danger, in that RBs still provide a good floor to work around. Especially when Johnson and Shady are involved. It’s an interesting test theory to practice, for sure.
Yes sir! I did it. Started Bradford over Brady. 13.1 more points for Bradford. Won by 6.7. Trust your instincts gentlemen. Now Brady back in to crush the Jets to clinch home field and win me a championship.
@Chicken Dinner: Great call there! Congrats!
Great work all season, Jay. Not really anything I need to do with my lineup this week except decide on my K Saturday morning. However, my opponent in the Super Bowl will probably be looking for a DST (has Atl @Car now). I’m set there with Sea vAri or SD @Cle, but could use a couple bench spots on other DSTs to block: best options are NYG (Thurs. @Phi), either side of SF @LA, and Hou vCin. I can probably pick up 3 of them. Would you do so, and if yes, which would you prioritize? Also, my opponent is my wife and we’ll be at her parents’ place this weekend.
@Steve Stevenson: Thanks Steve! Wow, big matchup coming up, careful of the inlaws. I think you have them in the right order there.
Hey Jay,
I’m in the finals… last week against advice from many, I started Ty Montgomery over Inman and it paid off big time as you likely know. For week 15, yahoo had Ty projected to get about 8 points, but he got 33 points. Now this week yahoo projects Ty to get 1.95 points vs. Vikings…
I know your rankings will come out on Thursday, but isn’t that a weird projection even for yahoo?
Watkins was bad last week… thinking about putting Ty in Watkins’ WR3 slot and sticking Inman in the flex…
Here’s my roster…
week 16.
Tom Brady NE – QB

What would you do for WR3 and flex if you had this incredible roster for the finals?
Thanks in advance and thank you for all your good work this season!
– Big W
@Big W: Standard league BTW…no PPR, thanks.
@Big W: I think it stems from the Vikings being really solid against the run and being at home. But great call last week. I’m okay with your decision here, to try and ride the hot wave. I’d probably prefer Watkins and Inman, but I haven’t started the rankings yet. I’m sure Ty will be a bit higher than what Yahoo has him at.
@Jay: hey, I was a bit premature, yahoo updated their projection to 9.86, which is higher than Inman and Watkins… look forward to your rankings, thanks again
@Big w: thanks for that info, and for sure.
Standard dynasty league, 10 tm, one final crack at waivers to grab guys for next year. Make any moves?
WW RB: Abdullah, Gio Bernard (note: I own J. Hill as well)
WW WR: Lockett, Kevin White, Doctson, Perriman, Coates, Decker
Drop candidates: Hightower, Lacy, Dion Lewis, McKinnon, Rishard Matthews, Tyrell Williams
This has been a rebuilding year and I’m weaker at RB, but have the chance for a quick turnaround with the #1 pick (Fournette?) and some better injury luck. Thinking Hightower’s my first drop due to age, maybe Lewis as well due to lack of TD upside and non-PPR format, and I can add Gio and one of the WR. Thoughts?
@Steve Stevenson: I think try to grab Gio and Decker for McKinnon and Hightower. I agree with your direction here.
I have a feeling about Malcom Mitchell this coming week I think he’s a lock for a TD against the helpless Jets are you down with Malcom over JJ Nelson or Golden Tate ? TY
@Brian: Yeah, I’m totally cool with this as an upside play.
Watkins, Lockett, R. Anderson, or T. Williams? Thanks.
@Jack: Leaning Williams right now, but I think Lockett might be close. Watkins too. Id’ wait for rankings, but Williams is probably the guy.
See a lot of early rankings has Lamar Miller ranked fairly high I’m a,little confused since I thought he re injured the ankle I need to decide between Hill or Miller who are you leaning towards
@Brian: I’m a tad bit worried too, so I’ll take a close look at his reports up until Friday, but if it’s between him and Hill, I’m probably leaning Miller right now, even with the concerns.
Tyreek or Ty?
@Jack: Tough one. Probably Tyreek because of matchup, but this might change tomorrow, ask me again when rankings come out and I’ll let you know how it went down.
Hi Jay,
Made it to the finals…Would you make any swaps in my PPR?
QB – ryan or luck (will have the tough decision of making throughout the week)
RB – freeman
RB – Ware
WR – Julio
WR – Jordy Nelson
TE – kelce or delanie walker
Flex – Jeffrey
Flex – Diggs
Bench – Tyreek Hill, Cobb, Crowell, Mike Wallace
Free agents include Dion Lewis, Meredith, Sheppard, Marvin Jones, Brandon Marshall, Forte
Thanks
@Old Dirty: For now, I might just hold. You have a good mix, and I’m really tempted to pick up Dion, but I don’t think I’m prepared to pick him up and start him just yet.
Howdy jay! Made it to the finals!
I’m a lil nervous in this matchup, I’m facing the hottest team in the league I feel like I’m going to need a miracle to pull this off
A few players my opponent has are latavius Murray , Antonio brown , Lamar Miller, ty Montgomery, Ryan Matthews on his bench, Michael Crabtree, Hilton, Travis kelce, Seattle D & on his bench Chiefs D
He also has spencer ware
I’m hoping I can keep it close but ultimately get the W
Waiver Q; drop Sterling Shepard for John brown?
Next at Kicker:
Dustin Hopkins at Chicago ? It looks to be mid 30’s on sat & sunny /cloudy m
Mason Crosby home in GB vs Vikings? Saturday looks to br sunny low 30’s
Or janikowski home in Oakland va colts? Oakland on sat appears to be high of mid 50’s & sunny
Boswell home in Pittsburgh vs Ravens? They play Sunday it appears Sunday will be cloudy low to mid 40s in Pitt
Thanks for all of your insight all season it’s been fun!
@Buzz: Congrats! That’s fine for Brown. And I think you get the best weather back and a close game in the making, and I think the Crosby pick might be the one to go with here.
Of course, thanks for hanging with us!
@Jay:
Also with how ineffective farrow (& hillman were) if & yes big IF but if Melvin Gordon is good during practices this week & he’s active for this week are you starting him or is it too risky coming off an injury but man if he’s active that matchup against the browns is juicy!
Anytime it’s been great hanging, lol razz ball
Has been my home away from home (or at home ), great site here!
@Buzz: It certainly depends on those reports like you said. I’m also a bit worried about the Chargers being out of it and not wanting to risk further injury.
Roll with Jordan Reed in week 16 or add one of these
Ebron vs DAL
Fleener vs TB
Witten vs DET
Clay vs MIA
Griffin vs CIN
Or can still add one just in case headcase Reed sits.
@Chad: after scraping by even while playing reed last week i’d do what i should’ve and actually make him show it before ever playing him again. probably witten there (from FP PPR rankings)
@Chad: reports are Reed is feeling better. I’m probably rolling with him unless some news changes.
drop osweiler for RG3 in 2 QB dynasty. got savaged to savage (in FAAB money). hackensack NYJ other option.
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: yeah, it’s totally fine. I don’t think we can expect much from either, but we at least know Brock isn’t going to build up too much hype at this point.
@Jay: not playing either of them, but my QB’s have certainly taken a step down having started year with brock lobster/rodgers/tyrod (mccown for a bit too). now pretty much going to target QB in draft (if possible, but i’ll get the 11th pick at best now), other issue being that my RB’s are getting seemingly worse as well with ingram/forte/mckinnon (hopefully a starter next year and their o-line gets better)/ivory/mathews/woodhead (half PPR here)
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: Oh yeah, I understand. Someone should emerge from that group, and I especially like the Woodhead stash.
@Jay: yeah, 2 years in a row with woodhead/allen being the stashes.
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: Haha, I think I remember that. Ugh. Injuries suck.
@Jay: weird thing (and going back like 6 weeks it didn’t seem likely in this league at all) is that i’m still in the finals in this league, also in another where we keep 6 and i have allen too stashed. worst part about the 2nd one is their are caps to how many of each position we can have so allen hamstrings my ability to have a deep WR bench. i have basically an extra TE stash in case of injury (have had at different points 2 out of allen/henry/gates/doyle)
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: ah shit, that 2nd league is only in the semi’s now, damn full NFL season league (but benches so deep that if anybody does get benched we have backups at every position, 3 QB/6 RB and WR/ max 4 TE etc
Jay need an advice for my champioship… who should i start? this is my team
QB drew brees
Rb lesean mccoy
Rb ty yeldon
Wr julian edelman
WR malcom mitchell
TE marceluss bennett
Flex 1 michael thomas
Flex 2 chris hogan
Kicker lutz
Def san diego chargers
Bench: emanuel sanders,randall cobb, melvin gordon,justin forrsett,ladarius green,buffalo
@Jose: We’ll have to wait and see on Gordon, but I think you should try to get Sanders in there for Hogan and possibly Green for Bennett, but double check my rankings that come out first thing tomorrow.
I demand more free content!
On the reals, though…
I’m looking to replace Pryor since RG3 has destroyed any semblance of whatever was left of a potential football team in Cleveland.
Should I go with Lockett or Snead for Week 16?
My other two WR are Crabtree and D Baldwin.
My RBs are Elliott and Lamar Miller.
@Ya Boi: Or Anderson, but the thought of trusting B-ryce Petty and a backup Jets WR in a playoff/championship matchup is horrifying.
Yeah, that matchup is not ideal at all.
Haha. I’m feeling Lockett there, but it’s going to be close.
You’ve nailed Kapernick all season. Go with him again this week or go with Mariotta or Winston? Eli is also a free agent. Also, gotta ride Cooks’ hot hand or will Emmanuel Sanders burn KC again?
@Tu-Flock: Thanks man! I avoided the hype train with his collapse in Chicago, but I wasn’t as low as I would have liked. I do regret that. I’m working on rankings right now, and I have it real close at the moment. Eli, then Kap, with Mariota up front. I kinda like Sanders in KC, but Cooks and Brees clicked really well, I’d probably go in that direction.
Way too many choices this week. Mind making some picks for me?
Pick 1 QB: Cousins or Rivers
RBs are set with Bell and Johnson
WRs I think are set with Bryant, Baldwin and Sanders
(Replace any of these guys with Inman or Pryor?)
Pick 1 Flex: Rawls, Stewart, Kelley, Inman or Pryor
TE: Walker
Can be replaced with either Brate and Ebron from FA
K: Hopkins
Can be replaced with Boswell, Janikowski, Forbath, Bullock, or Sturgis
Def: SEA
Can be replaced with TB (vs NO), GB (vs MIN), TEN (vs JAX), MIA (vs BUF)
Thanks!
@ashtray: For flex I have Ingram too
@ashtray: I’ll be honest, haven’t figured it out yet with Ingram, ask me again tomorrow, but I think he’s out of the picture right now.
@ashtray: Doing rankings right now, but as of now, I have it as Cousins, keep the WR as is, and then Kelley, Walker, and Hopkins are all fine.
I made it, last game, and have wr3 and flex conundrums….qb, brady, rb1, zeke, rb2, howard, wr1, alshon, wr2, baldwin, te, eifert, d, san diego….yahoo ppr, my choices, pick 2: Robby Anderson, Thielen, Crowder, Forsett, Inman, or on waivers Meredith and Ebron….All the above projected between 9 and 10
..leaning Anderson and Inman but. ….help?
@Greg: Congrats! I’d say Inman and Crowder for now… I’m still working on the Anderson ranking. Tough to say what’s going to happen with that one. I’d say no for now, so double check with me if you can tomorrow when rankings are out.
Thank you…you helped! Yeah, I’m leaning that way, too….
JJ Nelson is also on the wire….and I dunno, they are saying KC is really bad vs. the run so Forsett….should probably stick to what got me here….lol.
@greg: Yeah, it’s always tough, to not be too cute when setting up for the playoff games.
@greg: KC 8th vs rush, 25th vs pass. outsiders.
@Let Us Now Praise Famous Death Dwarves: backwards, 8th vs pass, 25th vs rush. booker still got 6 carries last week at least.
