At least, that’s what it looked like on my television. Alright, time to watch some football, let’s check out and see who’s playing… DEAR SWEET LORD, WHAT HAVE WE DONE. In between screaming “MY EYES!” and wondering if we’d finally get to watch the ever elusive halftime head coach firing (though, Gus Bradley continues to be an excellent high school football coach), there was an NFL game somewhere in there… I think? Listen, I very well may touch myself, but nothing I’ve ever done in my life makes me think I deserved that game. And granted, it’s Friday, always a plus, but forgive me if this lede spends more time complaining than analyzing. I mean, if the NFL isn’t going to bother with showing professional teams in prime time, I’m not going to bother giving much analytical thought. Well, except for one: Bortles is probably going to be a top-5 quarterback in fantasy this week. Let THAT sink in for a second…

If you haven’t yet, I’d encourage everyone to read Richard Sherman’s take on the hypocrisy of the NFL. Teaser: It was amazing.

Blake Bortles33/54, 337 YDS, 6.2 AVG, 3 TD, 97.5 RTG and 4 CAR, 22 YDS, 5.5 AVG, 12 LONG. Garbage time, thy name is Bortles. Don’t let the numbers fool you, both him and the Jags looked worse and worse at football as the night went on, even with the Titans not even taking the game seriously after the first quarter… I mean, I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a team run a prevent defense for three quarters. Talk about Bortles doing a great job running the hurry-nope offense…

Chris Ivory4 CAR, 6 YDS, 1.5 AVG, 4 LONG and 1 REC, 6 YDS, 6.0 AVG, 6 LONG, 1 TGTS. Seriously, what the f*ck? And not in the homemade pornography film sort of way…

Marqise Lee 1 REC, 21 YDS, 21.0 AVG, 21 LONG, 3 TGTS, 1 FUM. Woohoo! 0.3 fantasy points!

Marcus Mariota18/22, 270 YDS, 12.3 AVG, 2 TD, 148.1 RTG and 3 CAR, 11 YDS, 3.7 AVG, 7 LONG. After watching Mariota’s performance last night, I’ve come to the conclusion that the expression “borrowed time” includes a picture of Gus Bradley’s W-2 form.

Allen Robinson6 REC, 70 YDS, 11.7 AVG, 21 LONG, 15 TGTS. I keep starting Allen Robinson like I expect something different to happen.

Kendall Wright4 REC, 84 YDS, 21.0 AVG, 1 TD, 36 LONG, 5 TGTS. Is this what they are attempting to do now with Wright? Make him relevant? I’m honestly confused.

T.J. Yeldon3 CAR, 20 YDS, 6.7 AVG, 12 LONG and 4 REC, 36 YDS, 9.0 AVG, 12 LONG, 4 TGTS. I know there’s no justification for it, but I just get the feeling that he’s the second coming of Trent Richardson. Or maybe I’m just thinking of the Jaguars at large? Yeah… that’s probably it.

Final Thought

It’s over… mercifully at last, it is over.

Someone dropped Sammie Coates today – I’m thinking of putting in a waiver claim where I’d drop DeVante Parker.

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Jay: really? Even if Big Ben is back for Week 9?

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@William Hung: Yeah, that offense has a lot of potential target vacuums. He’s gone MIA since the Jets.

          • William Hung says:
            (link)

@Jay: yeah that’s true – you think his broken finger will take longer to heal? I feel like a healthy Coates beats what Parker is right now – Even Britt has outplayed Parker in the past month.

            • Jay

              Jay says:
              (link)

@William Hung: It’s a fair point. I was thinking in terms of depth on your roster. If you need to start a guy, has to be Coates then.

            • Jay

              Jay says:
              (link)

@William Hung: Sorry, wrote that in reverse. If you need a guy, Parker has to be it right now.

              • William Hung says:
                (link)

@Jay: Both teams are on BYE, so I was just looking ahead to Week 9 where if I don’t make a move, I’m starting both Jarvis Landry AND DeVante Parker and Parker hasn’t shown up to a game for like a month. I really regret trading Gio Bernard for Parker earlier this season. I let all the Parker hype get to me.

                • Jay

                  Jay says:
                  (link)

@William Hung: Landry is definitely the guy there. I’d still hold, just because one is more useful than the other.

                  • William Hung says:
                    (link)

@Jay: Oh yeah, def not thinking of doing anything with Landry – I was just thinking Coates would be better ROS. I can’t be messing around with Parker’s supposed upside if Coates gives me an opportunity to put up points next week, but if Parker is safer than Coates next week, then I’ll stand pat.

                    • Jay

                      Jay says:
                      (link)

@William Hung: Coates could be ready, but I’m not trusting a broken finger on a receiver until I see some snaps. In the end though, I don’t think this move changes the dynamic, so I think you’re fine.

                • Cram It says:
                  (link)

@William Hung: Looking forward to you having this conversation again next week when you’re 2-6 and neither of these guys change the outcome of your matchup.

                • Cram It says:
                  (link)

@William Hung: Seriously though, I’m a Coates owner, in a 14-team league, and he’s not seeing the field for me. If you find yourself having to start him, your team is probably F’d anyway.

                  • William Hung says:
                    (link)

@Cram It: 6 guys on BYE so yeah, I need to find reinforcements. I was hoping my record would be better but since I have to win out I need to treat every week like daily fantasy and play the matchups with ROS not being a priority outside of my studs like AJ Green, Greg Olsen, and Jarvis Landry

                    • Cram It says:
                      (link)

@William Hung: That philosophy seems to be contradicted by your endless questions about week 9. With 6 guys on bye, I don’t know how you have roster room to make moves for week 9.

                    • William Hung says:
                      (link)

That’s why I’m dropping Britt and Matt Jones for 2 prayers in Tyler Lockett and Knile Davis and hopefully they perform this week for some momentum to next week. If not, then I’ll have to look elsewhere for 2 other fliers

  2. a bag of sand says:

    Winston or Palmer this week?

  3. Joe says:
    (link)

Welp, I didn’t start A-Rob so I could start Julio, Adams, and Tate instead. A-Rob got 13 PPR points thanks to garbage time, so that sucked a little for me, but at least it only sucked with a lower case “s”. But, 13 points screams SELL HIGH RIGHT NOW WHILE YOU CAN to me so that’s what I’d like to do. I think Graham will have a nice game Sunday so I think the two of them, as a package, could net me something nice. I really, really need help at RB, especially once Lewis comes back and ruins James White.

Yesterday we had floated the idea of A-Rob and Graham for Dez and Chris Thompson? Is that still something I should pursue? Or should I pursue a better RB?

(Bonus: should i just flat out drop the Eagles DST for Asiata?)

    QB: Brady
WR: Julio, Landry, A-Rob, Adams, Tate, Moncrief
    RB: Ingram, White, Coleman
    TE: Gronk, Graham
    DST: NE, PHI
    K: Lambo

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Joe: Good read there. Yeah, totally, I’d want Dez there. I think it’s a good trade, especially in PPR where Thompson has better value.

      • Joe says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

Thanks! Would you drop either DST to add Asiata?

Also, you are way, way nicer than I am, calling that color “mustard.” Puke is what came to my mind.

        • Jay

          Jay says:

@Joe: Yeah, probably PHI for Asiata. Could be puke depending on the hotdog intake!

In a 10 team league is Michael Floyd even worth rostering anymore? I have Mike Evans, Brandon Marshall, Travis Benjamin, and Devante Adams in front of him.

In a half PPR league Im planning on starting Latavius Murray over Isiah Crowell…but then I saw Rudy was much higher on Crowell over pretty much “expert” consensus out there. I’ve learned over the years that Rudy is the absolute don dada when it comes to projections. Any thoughts on how/why Murray vs. Bucs is a better matchup over Crowell and the Jets?

    Appreciate you bruh.

      • Jay

        Jay says:

@Marty Janetty_Was Set Up: Haha, that’s right! Quotation marks are always required when referring to “experts”.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Marty Janetty_Was Set Up: Not really, no. I have the same names ahead of him too. I like Crowell, and I like him more than Murray. I’d pay attention if Rudy has a player really high, means his system is picking up on something that others may have missed.

Got offered Kelvin Benjamin and Theo Riddick for Brandon Marshall (PPR). My current receivers are TY Hilton, Bmarsh, Terrelle Pryor, Corey Coleman, Desean, and Jmatt (a lot of them I know lol). My Rb’s though are David Johnson, Gio, Dion Lewis they ALL have bye’s next week and I’m currently 3-4.

Is this trade fair and should I do it especially with the bye situation next week. Or should I just pickup 2 rb’s next week (I’d still have to pickup one even if I do it) the rb’s out there aren’t that great (Ryan Matthews, Yeldon, Rashad Jennings)

    Thanks in advance!

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Dave: I’m okay with it if you need a flex option or RB depth in Riddick. I think it’s fair, but only if it fits your team.

Would You trade Quiz/H Henry for Graham ? .5 PPR 12 teamer. My only real need is at TE but I feel like this is a lot to give up. Debated Offering the same for Reed but scared he’s one hit away from being done. Any suggestions on trades or overall advice on who to move?

Im 4-3 so I still need wins, nothing gauranteed, thanks

    qb – wilson
    rb – lamar
    rb – cmike
    wr- AJ G
    wr – Cobb

bench – Quiz, Crief, D Adams, Winston, Watkins, Duke

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Oppo Taco: I think that’s too much. I’d rather have Reed there if you’re trying to hit a homerun at the position.

      • Mak says:

        • Jay

          Jay says:

@Mak: Hmm, I’d probably feel better about dropping Howard in that case. Thing is, there is still some potential value there.

  12. Yo Soy Fiesta says:
    (link)

If given the opportunity should I trade Arob for Moncrief in 0.5ppr? I’m somehow 6-1 but my team is pretty cruddy so I’m looking towards the playoffs and ARob’s schedule is absolutely horrid. Not sure at all what his value is but my WR corps has been devastated by injuries and ineffectiveness.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Yo Soy Fiesta: I still think that’s an overpay, even with Arobs trouble.

  13. MiggyCat says:
    (link)

So my opponent had Murray, Wright and Lee last night. Not too bad, not great. Here is my quandary: I have both Brady and Ryan as my QBs. He is going to play Julio and Tamme. Do I play Ryan and keep those two from getting an TDs I don’t and to a degree negate my QB for his WR1 and TE. Or do I just play Brady and hope for the best?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@MiggyCat: They are close enough in rankings to where starting Ryan here to offset is a good idea.

  14. Jedimasters says:
    (link)

Jay what are we doing with Yeldon? He’s just eating a roster spot. Can’t start him. I can’t figure this out. Is it the coach? Watching the game he rotates with Ivory every other series yet he’s their passing back and he had some pretty good runs. Nobody can get into a rythym. And he isn’t used at the goal line. Is he a drop or a hold?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Jedimasters: How big is the league? He’s dropable in 10-teamers, in 12-teamers, just depends what’s out there on the waiver.

      • Jedimasters says:
        (link)

        @Jay:

12 team Standard. Was thinking about picking up Eli to backup Luck since I don’t have a second QB. Only notable RB is Rob Kelly on waivers. Otherwise the waiver is dry.

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Jedimasters: I’d want Kelley over him at the moment.

    • Jay

@sh: Probably Maclin, but it’s close. And that remains to be seen, but I think so. Probably not this year though.

  17. Nightpandas says:

Jay give up an 8th pick and Yeldon for a 10th and Powell? Only keep 3 so neither of these guys are impacted…crap for crap trade

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Nightpandas: Eesh. How long term is the league again? I mean, how many players can you keep? Unlimited?

      • Nightpandas says:
        (link)

@Jay: we keep 3 so these guys would not be considered

        • Jay

          Jay says:
          (link)

@Nightpandas: Yeah, then if you need Powell, I’m fine with it. I feel like the draft picks shouldn’t even be part of it though. You get a utility player, and they get a lottery ticket that’s looked terrible. Have you tried just straight up? (And sorry, I missed the last part where you answered my questions.)

  18. Uncledenzel99 says:

  19. Nick says:

Been going back in forth in both my leagues with deciding wide outs this week…

10team standard: start Maclin & Adams behind Marshall or plug in J Brown somewhere? I pretty much decided against Snead as an option

12team standard: start Cobb & M Jones. But have Ty Mont on bench, debating swapping in Ty & playing both Packers or sit Jones for Ty…

Also at QB, been going back and forth. Had Palmer, went to Dak. Now debating back…hate having to stream QBs with Ben hurt..

Anything you feel strongly about or all coin flips?

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Nick: I… would probably not go with Brown there. Snead is okay, but Maclin and Adams are fine too. I might actually go Ty if it was PPR, but in this case, I think you have the right two. And yeah, Palmer is fine there. I think if anything, Dak will be very similar, so I don’t see anything crazy here.

  20. DT says:

@DT: Haha, good stuff. Good question, I’m leaning Riddick for the moment, but double check my rankings tomorrow night. I actually haven’t had a chance to watch the complete last Seahawks game yet, still have a few more to go.

20 team dynasty PPR. start 1 RB, 2 WR, 1 TE, 1 flex. WAS based team, need 10 min at all times, and those worthless guys i had been stashing in the 5 IR slots from WAS have all been removed for AP/sims/doctson/c.heyward (high ranking DE who’ll likely be back soonish and is a starter)/hall (S/CB on IR but WAS)
    QB cousins/goff
    RB mckinnon/blount/thompson/kelley/drake
    WR d-jax/k.benjamin/agholor/treadwell
    TE reed/brate
    IR doctson/AP/sims
recently dropped fiedorowicz when i read reed is currently better for drake MIA
drake would probably have insane value for trading to MIA if/when ajayi were to get hurt and drake was starting over d.will. have my 10 WAS players still. you can see i’ve often used high picks on WR highly drafted (year 1 it was m.lee, on roster for about 2 years, and recently just missed waivering him, year 2 agholor, year 3 doctson, and this year treadwell was dropped so i nabbed him); albeit it takes that position often till like year 3 to figure it out so waiting is in order often.
better off with drake here or shepard TB/wheaton c(ould also be obtained if/when he’s finally healthy. rogers ain’t done anything and is still hurt, coates is hurt off/on and sounds like a head case and even if that’s only half true a WR 3 in PIT’s offense would still be valuable)

    • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
      (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: in a funny note this team would be close to being able to turn into TB if i went shepard, as it already has sims/brate/kwon A/david/c.mcdonald (when healthy) and could even obtain that awful rookie kicker on TB over lulz NO too.

this team continues to snap necks/cash checks as it won last year, and is still 3rd in points with best record even while cousins is much worse than last year, and i have no AP production level RB anymore. most of this is from having a very good IDP squad.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: I like Drake a lot as a RB2 in this format. Has a chance to be what we see with Tevin Coleman. Maybe more if Ajayi falters. I do prefer Shepard over Wheaton by a bit for that side. Seems like really good news on Kelley too.

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:

@Jay: yeah, kelley was grabbed like the day after sims hit IR.

        • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
          (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: i’m also daily happier and happier i didn’t overpay for matt jones in a trade, which i could’ve pursued in preseason or last year. i probably as a WAS owner SHOULD’VE drafted matt jones myself last year but i was busy grabbing quite good last year rookie IDPs kendricks (MIN)/collins (became benjamin in trade)/s.anthony (later dropped for who is now burfict)

          • Jay

            Jay says:
            (link)

@Aubrey Plaza’s Pillow: Yeah, that’s one of my blunders this year, hyping Matt Jones a little. Being in the same market, I liked what I saw last season… not sure what happened before the injury. I always blame Gruden though, so there’s that.

Been offered Wilson and Gillessee for Gio and Crabtree.
Obviously that’s not a good trade, but would you consider any counter to switch to Wilson from Palmer?
    Current 1q/2r/3w squad is:

@The imp: Related question. Why do you have Stafford ranked below both Wilson and Palmer ROS? The data, such as data is in FF, says Stafford is better this year, so I assume he isn’t passing some sort of eye test.

      • Jay

        Jay says:

      (link)

@The imp: Yeah, I don’t like the switch, even if Wilson is injured. I’m okay with Palmer, but he hasn’t really shown me much… I’d rather sit on Wilson in this specific case and bank on a recovery.

      • The imp says:

@The imp: Oh I gotcha, that was probably my fault. The most would probably be Palmer and Mathews on the low end, but if I’m really desperate, JStew for him would be the high end of what I’m willing to do.

@Chad: Eifert for later, Walker for now. I like West better than both, but its fair if you need to fill that hole.

Need some WR depth. Which to add in a standard league:
    Britt
    Meredith
    Beasley
    Smith sr
    Parker
    Crowder

      Jay says:

@Chad: Go for Crowder there, less hands to feed in that offense.

    Cruz
    Atl def @TB on thurs
    Dal @ Cle

@Zandy: I like Gates if your TE situation is in flux. Otherwise, I’d flip a coin on Barber or Shep there and see where it lands, and hope for a big showing.

        (link)

@Jay: I have Graham so will pass on gates. Just saw deangelo Williams is there…. Worth sitting on him?

        • Jay

          @Zandy: Yeah, I think that’s a good alternative.

Dropped Jones and Britt for Knile Davis and Tyler Lockett to see if the “coach speak” from Carrol rings true about Lockett and he’s really fully healthy. A big game from Lockett could really turn things around for him – though I wouldn’t be using him this week.

With the news for Charles not looking good ROS, who is a better stash: Charcandrick West or Peyton Barber?

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@William Hung: Probably Barber for upside. West has always been a bit guy, even with higher snaps.

So in one of my grad stats classes we got into a discussion about fantasy baseball and football and the ability to find hidden gems using statistical analysis. In football, the conversation turned to 3rd down backs / passing down backs because nobody really talks about them until an injury or ineffectiveness from the starter. We started to talk about guys like Danny Woodhead, Gio Bernard, and Chris Thompson because Woodhead and Bernard provided good value at low cost relative to the market, whereas Thompson was a decent floor and now he’s looking at a bump in playing time and could see good value in PPR. So in your opinion for PPR formats, should most 3rd down / passing down backs be rostered? Maybe that’s a strategy that can yield some good returns.

@William Hung: Oh yeah, you should have one or two on your bench for sure. Thompson is the perfect example.

          • William Hung says:
            (link)

@Jay: On that note, how would you rank these guys: Damien Williams, James Starks, Dwayne Washington, Jeremy Langford, Ka’Deem Carey, Peyton Barber

Hi Jay, Is it worth trading R. Kelley and J. Maclin for either J. Nelson or M. Jones???? PPR….thanks….

    • Jay

      Jay says:

@Todd: I like the deal for upgrading to Jordy, so I’d do it.

Need to drop three players to fill receiver, kicker, defense byes ppr league

knile davis, antonio gates, sterling shephard, kenny britt, terrance west, langford, watkins, corey coleman

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@vc: I think it should be Davis, Gates, and the third is a tough one. Depends on what I’m looking for, tight standings, keep Coleman, if you’re thinking playoffs, keep Watkins.

      • Jt says:
        (link)

@Jay: or do I just punt kicker or defense and gates is my flex this week

  30. vc says:

running backs are leaven bell, coleman, rashad jennings, ajayi, asiati,

      Jay says:

@vc: I think you can drop Jennings here, you have enough RB depth.

Maclin, duke Johnson, and Rawls were dropped and clear waivers tomorrow. Our waivers clear every week so I’m not worried about burning a claim.

Swap out Meredith, Adams, or Jennings for any of them ?
    12!man 1/2 ppr
    Qb ryan
    Rb ware, freeman
    Wr Evans, ty Montgomery
    Te Julius Thomas
Bench – Adams, Meredith, Crowell, ab (bye), Wilson

Thanks again. I’m hoping for a good week. I like my team, but I’m only 3-4. I keep playing teams that have the highest point total of the week.

    • Jay

      Jay says:
      (link)

@Old Dirty: Eh, I’d hold here. Jennings for Rawls if you never use him. Maybe take a gamble.

    Also. In a ppr

Do you like ryan or luck ?
Start 3 – Cobb, Nelson, forte, Rodgers, kelce, diggs, Meredith

    Thanks !

@Old Dirty: Luck, but it’s close. I’d go Cobb, Forte, and Diggs.
